Ursa Mini Pro G2 VS BMPCC6K Colour

  • Comparing my recently purchased Blackmagic Ursa Mini Pro G2 to one of my pockets the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro.
    This is shot in a controlled studio environment. Both cameras exposed at 1000 ISO and you can clearly see which one is exposing slightly (about half a stop) darker and much more magenta, but they are very different sensors and matching in post is no big deal.

    I “liked” A better and thought (guessed) it was the Ursa - proving I don’t know shit and it’s all subjective. Lol

      I love your very honest self awareness and yes they can be matched near identical. I believe its down to 6K pro having the most aggressive clear IR cut - will do more tests but with and IR cut on both to see if they differ same after

    6k looked better both graded and ungraded. Camera are either a little green or a little magenta 🤷🏽‍♂️
    We’ve learned how to work around it, but the Pocket 6k looked better in this comparison.
    Can you do this with the Cinema 6k please😊

    I liked the 6kPro more (I didn't even try to guess which was which). I ended up buying the 6kPro 6 weeks ago and have been very happy with its image and its flexibility (I would have gotten the 6k Full Frame but the lack of Internal NDs, Pro Res, and High FPS were deal breakers). All that said, I do wish they'd used a slightly larger "Super 35mm" sensor. the 25mm sensor of the G2 gives just a bit more breathing room than the 23mm one of the 6kPro. I understand they were using a pre-existing Sony sensor here (and Sony's APS-C is also 23mm) but, as small as that 9% extra crop may seem, it does make a difference. It means I now always want to carry a Tokina 11-20mm ultra wide with me when I'm shooting. It's not the end of the world but it would have been a nice convenience. I really hope that, if Blackmagic makes another Super-35mm camera, they go with a 27mm sensor like the Red Komodo or Ursa Mini 12k. Both provide a 17% increase in field of view while still covering all Super 35mm lenses. I really think it's the sweet spot for people who might want to stick with he Super 35 format because of all those great lenses BUT want as much FoV and DoF as possible.

    Both look great. In fact, most cameras look great at this point. The Ursa has more dynamic range, but after matching shots, the difference was extremely negligible. Cameras don't matter as much as they did 10 years ago. They all have slightly different flavors, and the images become extremely subjective. All that really matters now is what you put in front of the camera. On second thought... That's all that has ever really mattered.

    You can tell the Ursa by the light on your forehead, there's more detail in the highlights of B. I would be curious about the Cinema Camera 6K with the new full frame sensor matched against the Ursa G2. Thanks for the great content.

    I've always had a hard time telling which cameras are "better" in any given head to head, especially since most Blackmagic cameras share the same basic color science. That said there are definitely differences and some may prefer the look of one over the other under the same settings.
    The 2 extra stops of dynamic range are a bonus, but the footage you posted yesterday at high frame rates demonstrates clearly one of the biggest advantages. When you factor in the NDs, better screen and pro level connectivity and it really comes across as a bargain.

    • @CINENIMUS
      @CINENIMUS  2 месяца назад +1

      How do you know it does have 2 extra stops of DR? From their marketing?

    • @AskJoe
      @AskJoe 2 месяца назад +1

      @@CINENIMUS Yes. To me that's not an important feature, but if I shot professionally, the high frame rates, flip out screen, and all those other pro level features would easily justify the price.

    • @AskJoe
      @AskJoe 2 месяца назад

      @@CINENIMUS I just checked the website and realized that in spite of the flip out screen, you still can't monitor yourself. It's funny that Blackmagic doesn't understand that many content creators need to see themself to get the framing right. The Pyxis is even crazier with the screen locked sideways.

    The Rawlight olpf is a worthy upgrade to the ursa mini G2 it will help with the IR pollution. Honestly curious if it puts the color closer to the 6k after the mod. If buying this camera new it’s a pain to have to mod it after paying full price. I choose to buy second hand and add the olpf.

    • @CINENIMUS
      @CINENIMUS  Месяц назад

      Nah not worth it. Regular NDs deal with it just fine. Also the lighting in studio is very mixed so in reality IR “polution” is and actually never has been a problem shooting with Sonys, BM, or RED. Just people not knowing how to colour grade is the bigger issues really
