Won't Shift Out OF Park After Hydroboost Install GMC 2500HD

- In this video we are sharing a simple solution to a problem. After installing an upgraded hydroboost on this 2007 GMC 2500HD Duramax the truck would not shift out of park. This is a fairly common issue when using the upgraded 2011 system. I came up with a pretty simple solution. Also some bonus footage of this awesome truck.

I rarely leave comments on RUclips, but this deserves one. I just did the hydroboost conversion/upgrade on my 2000 Chevy 1500 and had the exact same issue. Initially I was able to shift out of park and drove to O'Reily....only to get stuck there. Once I unplugged the brake pedal switch, I was able to shift but lost my brake lights. I found this video an hour ago and already fixed my issue! much appreciated my man!

I always thought you only had to drill out the hydroboost rod only if it didn’t fit over the brake pedal pin. I’ve had this installed on my truck for almost a year and no issues. Then a few weeks ago it starting getting more difficult to shift out of park, until yesterday I found myself on a date with the fiancé, stuck in a parking lot not able to get out of park at all. With a little wire wiggling, (and a lot of bitching from her about my old pos truck, which is as nice as the one in this video 😂) I was able to get the truck to shift and get home. This fix saved me from having to pull the hydroboost to drill that out! You are a life saver!! Thank you so much.
@@iamqueenelizabeth absolutely, I'm glad it helped. On the truck in the video we DID drill the hydro hole however still had no brake lights or cruise so I moved to the switch.
Great video, I had the same issue, tried your trick and it worked like a charm. The only issue I had was I inadvertently adjusted the contact for the brake lights to where my brake lights didn’t work and therefore my trailer brakes wouldn’t engage when I depressed my brake pedal…so a word to those who end up doing this, be careful not to adjust the brake contact when your adjusting the interlock.
Good advise. The switches are cheap. I bought a spare and modified it.
Great info my freind i just did this fix in my 08 LMM duramax i belive i bought the upgraded hydroboost painted it up all perrty red international harvester red ( its not too dark) it looks awsome under the hood . I did not know that hydroboost woyld have that issue i wouldve went wild not knowing what the ussue was i have done the pedal switch though

2002 chevy Silverado 2500 hd 4x4 6.0 just checked the going into drive issue, and it seemed to work just fine but the break light was on when I go out of the truck!! I tapped the break pedal and it went out. so maybe I will order a new one instead of removing for the 4th time and reworking the old one! is there a newer version I should get??
I did what you did with the contact and it work.
My question is did the owner of that truck have an issue with the cruise control?
I can't get mine to work and I agree with you I don't want to over size the hole and destroy the hydro boos.
I bought a new brake sensor and still no cruise control.
Any thought?
If the cruise doesn't work then the contacts need further adjustment. Same thing happened to us on the first try.

I know it seems dumb it could be just 1 set of contacts to do all that ..but all three are separate
Do you happen to know which one is for cruise control? In you video you only mention the park safety switch.

@@GabrielHernandez-bs3tc I don't remember for sure which one is for cruise. You can look at the colored wires that plug into it and then find a diagram
installed the new hydroboost and it bolts right on. BUT!! the break light is staying on ???
I had the same problem and tweaked the switch you did , but have you had the problem with the cruise control mine is not working and I’m thinking if it’s the next contact on the switch that I might need to tweak.
Problem is definitely in the switch
I can attest to the brake switch clip. I searched in vain after mine flew off. Had to buy a new one also.

I worked the pedal back n forth and pulled back hard and the lights turned off. so I'm wondering if I need to bend the pin like you did to get the break light to turn off?? I have not tried to drive it yet!
@@meademods6024 Definitely. Easiest way is to buy another switch and Dr that one up that way you have a back up.
ok test drive proves that this newer unit I bought from the link in your description has greatly improved breaking! my 02 is stopping like never before! and the issue of the break switch being stuck and break lights staying on has fixed itself! maybe it is somehow self-adjusting to the new part being installed?? not sure but the brake lights don't stay on anymore. checked for leaks and the newer style original GM unit is bone dry!

I wouldn’t have wasted my time rigging the switch I’d have just soldered the terminals together or ran a jumper wire and got rid of the stupid park lock older vehicles never had them and we all got by just fine people need to stop fixing shit that isn’t broke and if your dumb enough to drop it in gear with holding the brake then that’s on you
It wasn't a waste of time for me. Do it however you want and make a video we can all watch.
Thank you for your video! After changing my hydrobooster I had break lights but couldn't shift from park. Double checked the connections to no avail, and was about to pull my hair out when i found your video. Cant belive it could be that simple, but it worked like a charm!🫡
If you can't operate your cruise control, it's because the tab that operates your brake lights isn't in time with the tab that turns off cruise. Easy to see with a scan tool.
To simplify it, the copper tabs have to move at the same rate. Took me a few tries and watching data on the scan tool but it can be done.
I did this about 2 years ago and I lost cruise control and high idle. Am I able to adjust the pins again and regain both of them?
