I had recorded so many wedding films with Sony a6300, Sony a6500, A7III and never had an issue with overheating even in summer. I do not understand one thing; Why would I take 15 min of 4K 60p video without stopping. I always tell couples to create a scene, they do it and I take a 5-10 sec of shot and stop recording that's it. By doing so, camera never overheats and battery consumption is reduced. For the wedding ceremony, which is done in evenings in my country, I just take camera to 4k 25p and take it a long footage. For dancing and partying I take several slow-motion shots like 5-10 seconds, so no overheat. IMO, a6700 it is pretty much usable for wedding films and I will go for it!

Hey Matt, great video as always. I have the FX30...and everything you said about it is true, and certainly is a better choice for more critical video work (which I realize is how you use your cameras in the field). One thing that is important to point out, however, for those that may not be familiar with either camera: The a6700 is a viable choice for actual photography, and while the FX30 can certainly take photos, it is a video-first camera. It has no viewfinder, and lacks many of the common features found on a true hybrid camera that attempts to equally prioritize photography and video. While I use my FX30 for photos, I'm annoyed the entire time that I'm doing that...the a6700 definitely does a better job in support of both photography and videography. Just my 2 cents!
My two cents. If a camera has any video features - especially ones that are decent quality like 10-bit 422, they need an internal fan. It's just common sense. I own the FX30 and work out of Miami (very hot and humid) and the FX30 has not failed me yet on any outdoor shoots.
I just filmed my first wedding on my a6700 and during the ceremony I filmed for about 10 minutes. It’s important for me not to stop recording in case there is an epic moment (which there was) that I could miss. My camera started overheating and I was freaking out, but luckily I was prepared with my external Ulanzi fan that cooled it down quickly!!! Saved my shot
Great camera. I wonder if there are any differences between this and FX30 in terms of color. Even though it's the same sensor, sometimes Sony tweaks the color.
The perfect camera would be a FX30 Mark II with the new AI processor, a viewfinder and mechanical shutter, essentially getting the best features of both the FX30 and the 6700 and making it easier for us to choose without any headaches and compromises😅

Matt, I watch your channel, even though I don't film weddings, because of your clear explanations that allow me to really see what fits for me. I had used Sony FF cameras before (A73, A7C, etc.) but found that only having one camera at a time and big, heavy, expensive lenses (sometimes you can get 3rd party), meant that my travel setup was sometimes stuck leaving lots of lenses at home. The only thing I have left from my FF days is the Sony 24mm F1.4 GM and the Sony 200-600mm F5.6-6.3 G OSS (I have always shot wildlife, birds, etc.) - no cameras. I have done probably 90% photos in the past. Now, I am retiring at the end of the year and have somewhere around $5000-7000 to build out a kit. Prior to the FF stuff, I did have the Sony A6400 and eventually the Sony A6600 (sold them when I went FF). I want to start shooting more video stuff (we will be doing lots of traveling as well as just stuff around the neighborhood. I want two camera, but don't know if I want them both to be the same thing, or have two different but same platform. I am debating between 2 Sony A6700s, or 1 A6700 and 1 FX30. Lens options are numerous: Sony 11mm 1.8, Sony 15mm 1.4, Sigma 23mm F1.4 (though I would keep my Sony 24mm F1.4 GM), Sigma 30mm 1.4, Sigma 56mm 1.4, Sigma 10-18mm f2.8 and Sigma 18-50 f2.8, Sony 16-55mm f2.8, Sony 70-350mm 4.5-6.3. Tons of choices! I don't do any vlogging and don't see myself starting, so quality lenses for both video and photos is where I want to go! 15mm f1.4, keep the 24mm GM, Sigma 18-50, Sony 70-350mm ---- then get two bodies. How does this sound? Should I get the A6700 for walk around hybrid and FX30 to learn about more video features? Thanks!

The biggest difference is the introduction of the damn side hinged flippy, flappy screen. So it’s a huge No from me, not that Sony cares. It’s amazing really, I’ve shot over 500 weddings now and I’ve never once had to photograph or film myself.
As a second/third camera this will be ok! I still sometimes use my a6500 on weddings in Mexico , 90F , direct sun , and camera has never overheated even during 30+ mins long ceremony.
Hi, Meth. You always shoot interesting videos. Tell me, I bought a Sony a7r 5, which lens is better to buy for shooting videos and photos. Fixes or zoom. 24-105 is, 85 Sigma, it is worth buying a high-power Sony 24-70mm GMII lens. I dreamed about this when I was Canon. Or Buy 70-200?
I search and search but, can't find any answers on, if you can customise witch funktions, you want in the touch function icons menu, like in the FN menu? The one appear, when you swipe left/right
I’m thinking about whether to get the A6700 or the A7IV. What holds me back from the A7IV is that I have quite a few lenses that are APS-C. Do you think I should take a big step and switch to the A7IV, or since I have more APS-C lenses, should I stick to the APS-C line and go for the A6700?
I saw a post from B&H about this camera announcement today, and I was hoping to see a review on it soon. And here it is. It looked so promising as a new main camera for me and a solid future B roll camera, my current main camera is the 6600 which has not overheated on me but i shoot 1080p. The overheating issue is rather concerning though. I wonder if it overheats shooting at 1080ho outside. I might just be better off future proofing myself with the fx30. I also do some photo gigs too, so I liked the idea of an upgrade to both photo and video.
Hi im just one to change my camera from a6400.. I have 2 camera in my mind right now. A7r M4 and a6700.. which one i should buy.. should i stay on apsc ecosystem (i only have sony g 18+108m lens only) , or since i have only 1 lens i should jump to full frame and bought a7r M4 (which i aim to pair with sigma 70-200). Same with a670p i consider to pair it with sigma 70-200.
I think you are the only one on RUclips that has tests with numbers for a temperature of 90f . Multiple confirmation tests would have been more professional
This does sound like the true successor to the a6300. I used to have two of those, and juggling which camera was recording and which was cooling off from overheating when filming a ceremony was a waking nightmare. The lack of dual card slots, full HDMI port, and overheating shouldn’t necessarily be taken as bad points though. The reality is that this camera was designed with hobbyists in mind, so I don’t really think those are flaws so much as normal design considerations. If you are truly a pro videographer/filmmaker, the FX30 is an obvious choice over this. It’s not much more expensive, and it’s essentially a more robust version of this camera designed for working professionals, and the price tag corresponds to the extra beef on it, so to speak.
Shooting weddings shouts at using high end cameras not small less expensive hybrid cameras. That said, this is an excellent camera for shooting on holidays, reunions, vacation, and family and friends get togethers. Who wants to drag a professional camera around.
Hello, I am an event videographer and I use a sony z150. I would like to switch to the sony a6700, I'm interested in a zoom lens but I don't know which would be better and not too expensive, around $1000. I look forward to your advice. Thank you very much.
the overheating is really only a problem depending on where you live/where you are shooting. For example I live in Northern Oregon (USA) and it stays pretty cool there year round, except for July and August. Even when its super hot out it takes a lot of processing for long periods of time for the heat to be a problem, this is for me though. REMEMBER, it depends on your usage as well as where you are at.
I got the a6700 wit a Smallrig cage and have the ECM-M1 mic that fits in the shoe of camera. Do you know of anyway to get the Atomos Ninja 5 on it without disturbing the mic? Thanks
Using at a wedding as a C cam I've returned it, 4k50 is a no go, get about 10 mins, 4k25 is a no go, get about 20 mins, granted it was a warm day about 25c outside
What's "outdoors on a hot day in direct sunlight" in Celsius/Fahrenheit? My room temperature is usually around 29C/84F and I shoot 30-50 minute long takes.
Try it on a gimbal see if it performs better on Autofocus and Lowlight and you'd be disappointed, try looking for a real world review first before being bought on video specs.
And then there's Xperia 1 that can record 4K/120fps video on all three cameras since Mk4. I don't deny the A6700 will produce far better photo quality than the Xperia. But if I only care about videography, I may as well go compact with the Xperia. This is still not an easy decision to make.
Excellent Matt...this was much needed information for me because I make weddings from time to time in Spain ...and also we get hight temperatures .....unfortunately i only have 1500 euros to invest in new cam ....which is why was considering a6700 .....cheeeerrrssss...
Pretty impressive camera with all the bells and whistles that make a7sIII and A1 owners cry, but not reliable for professional use. I agree with your recommendations. Thanks for this! Is there any way to assist you in your shoots?
The Fuji XS20 is the new kid on the compact APS-C block. It records for the full 45 minutes, allowed by the camera, in 6.2K Open Gate, without a sweat. That tells you the rest of the story.. Did I say it also records RAW with an external recorder?. A6700: dead on arrival. For Sony fans, you better wait for the A7C II.
fuji has shitty Lowlight performance and Autofocus, I would use Panasonics over them but Sony has a vast of lenses so Sony it is. A7cii has crop on 4k60p. Similar to a7iv so all in all the release of a7c2 made a7iv obsolette for video.

I will start wedding videography with this camera because i have lo budget ;) also i wonder if the ulanzi cooling fan will help ? maybe i should buy tilta cooling system ? or sell this and raise money for a new fx30 ?
I was just about to make the final decision and get the A6700. But I’m in TX as well and the overheating issue really just put the stop to the preorder purchase.. I do Real Estate Videography (60 FPS) and Travel Videos as well. Might just order the FX30 right now instead.
@@whoismatt I ordered the FX30! Even a cage and all the accessories. Can’t wait to receive everything. Thank you Matt, for the review. If I bought the A6700 I would’ve regretted it due to the overheating.
I'm really digging this camera, I also noticed the A7sII and then a6300 thing, and I was expecting this camera to be launched within the first year from the A7sIII release. It's been three years though, then I saw the fx30 and thought "that was it!" however, not quite, this is. Im rather interesting in filming good 1080p instead of 4k. I've noticed so many cameras had great 4k (or higher) video recording, but if you were to shoot in 1080p they sucked, didn't offer good bit rates and compressions. How is the 1080p in this one?
Among all mirrorless cameras, a lot of people are perfectly happy with their videos recordings stopped in the middle of magic moments. No big deal I guess.
Why consider any APSC camera for a PRO WEDDING/Pro ANYTHING photographer :)!!! These little cameras will have slightly less image quality and aren't built for a PRO use! But since 95-99% of photography/videography is by enthusiasts/amateurs, size and weight DO matter :). Try carrying around double the size of an APSC camera (full frame body plus full frame lenses) as you travel internationally!
Hello, everyone. I am in the process of launching a RUclips channel and am currently in the market for a new camera. I have narrowed my choices down to two models: the Sony a6700 and the Sony FX30. The FX30 has several advantages over the a6700, including no heating issues, a full-size HDMI port, and the fact that it is part of Sony's Cinema Line, which is known for its reliability. While the a6700 is more affordable, I am concerned about its heating issues and the fact that it is not as reliable as the FX30. My primary use for the camera will be for static shots, similar to those taken with the Sony a7s3, as well as some B-roll footage. I understand that the FX30 is a significant investment, but I am confident that it will be worth it in the long run. I have already created several videos using the Pro mode on my Samsung S24 Ultra and a GoPro 12, but I believe that either the FX30 or the a6700 would be a significant upgrade for me.
I would never use a camera as a pro videographer that did not have cooling (risking time outs) or a dual memory card slot...and I LOVE the SONY A6000 series, and will be ordering the A6700. Why? Because I'm not a pro and I plan on using the video for only short bursts and will, in the case of running into exceptional circumstances, have an external drive in the field into which I'll save the data. These smaller APSC cameras just are not pro level for a business. Again, I love small and lightweight, and as a traveler I would never use full frame. But as a Pro? Heck yes, why? It's your career! I would put UP with the hassle of larger and nerdy camera bodies/lenses BECAUSE I want the best images, blow up print capabilities, and rugged durability of a pro level camera.
That's what I'm thinking. My biggest gripe with my 6600 is the 1080 codecs. They are garbage. I can't find a review yet that talks about the 6700 1080 footage
What if Sony keep coming out with cameras with overheating issues? sony zv e1 For example awesome camera but has overheating issues. But basically this is the same camera as this one.
@@truthseeker6804 that's what my comment said. I already have a full frame as my A cam. I'm looking to upgrade my b cam from my a6400 and was thinking this might be a good choice.
Are there any cameras at this price point that have a built-in fan ? I would probably pay the additional $600 and go for a Panasonic S5 II camera for the full-frame sensor, internal-fan cooling, open-gate shooting mode, excellent EVF when shooting outside in bright light, and outstanding IBIS for smooth handheld camera movement.
If they aren’t gonna put a fan inside the camera itself, it would be super cool if there was a “cinema” attachment that would go on the body, it could take over some of the processing power and reduce the overall amount of heat, kind of like a battery grip that unlocks more recording.
@@uptildawnltd3253 Sony wants you to buy their higher end cameras, so the fan was left out on purpose. I think the no EVF is a big deal too, as it's hard to shoot in bright sunlight without a 2500+ nit screen to guide you.
That said, 95-97% of ALL camera buyers are NOT pros! AND SIZE/WEIGHT MATTER hugely :)! The Sony A6700/Sony A6600 is the best form factor compared to the Fuji and Canon camera bodies AS WELL AS THE LENSES when attached.
Too risky sadly, 4k 50 has become the standard (for me anyway) and it wont last, these cameras can not last in a Sikh or hindu wedding, that being said outdoors in the warmth sony cameras struggle to capture a english civil wedding
SONY CAMERAS=OVERHEATING ISSUES! Sony knows better, after all they make the Sensors that Fuji used in the XH2S & XH2 (Fuji designed the cam bodies with alt fans). So what does Sony do after Four Years? Yes. Four Years since the Sony a6600--which didn't have overheating issues! They managed to make OVERHEATING, their Flagship Moniker. Well Done Boys! So is this the fault of the good ole boys Design Team at Sony Inc. or the New Genius Wonder Boys? Maybe a combo of both. For all us who live in the North Countries like me in Alaska, this new Sony a6700 will be the best handwarmer & most expensive one I can pick up for under two grand. Of course, they've come out with several models since the a7iv with the same Moniker. Those are in the two grand plus. So when I'm shooting the Northern Lights, I know which camera system I should invest in, if I want to keep my hands warm when it's Forty Degrees Below Zero. Thanks Sony Tech Boys! Thanks so much! I'm so happy I waited Four years for a new Winter Hand Warmer! Thanks again! My Dogsled team will also be thanking you. Can keep their paws warm too! 😎😎
Still... it's to expensive for what it is: a heater fot those cold days in autum. $1100 would have been a better price for it. The price is not impresive once you realize that 80% of the camera is made of old existing parts from previous A6XXX cameras. Sony must think we're all that stupid! Just imagine what we'll learn once the real users start receiving the camera. Real users = all those who will buy it and not having received the camera in advance. Not sponsored my arse!
I got the a6600 for $200 off just months after it was introduced in 2019. I'd keep an eye out for sales leading up to Black Friday. It solves the biggest issues I have with the a6600 (rolling shutter, lack of 10-bit video recording and only lossy raw compression) so just for that am quite interested in it. I don't really want a total overhaul of the camera as it's a great tool as it is.

Thanks!
I think a6700 and fx30 are a great combo!
Price is good. I was expecting same price as fx30. but no dual sd card is not expected. Overheating is expected for me. As my a7iv overheat in 4k60 but I have not encount overheat at 4k24p. I think you can still use it for long recording with 4k 24p.
The biggest difference is the introduction of the damn side hinged flippy, flappy screen. So it’s a huge No from me, not that Sony cares.
It’s amazing really, I’ve shot over 500 weddings now and I’ve never once had to photograph or film myself.
I find it's useful on a shoulder rig or gimbal to have it on the side. I never film myself.
I prefer the slide down screen. Screw vlogging.
While a little inconvenient while shooting horizontally, it doesn't hold you back and it also lets you shoot vertical shots as well.
Im interested to see retail units as the overheating tests varied SO much from review to review is actually crazy.
Man if the ZV-E1 and this camera didn't have overheating issues, they'd be the video kings for wedding filmmakers.
Nah. One SD is not worth it for wedding filmmaking, in this era when there's many dual SD cards.
I search and search but, can't find any answers on, if you can customise witch funktions, you want in the touch function icons menu, like in the FN menu? The one appear, when you swipe left/right
Thanks !!
Matt have you tried updating the firmware? and if so did you yield better results?
Multiple confirmation tests would have been more professional
id use it for 4k 24 speeches BUT LOOKS LIKE I CANNOT. I THINK a74 is best cheap option cause full frame and doesnt overheat anymore on me after update
Despite its pitfalls, this seems like a high value camera. That said, for a bit more, the FX30 is much better, (I’ve got 2 😂).
I have a6600 and fx30. Im planning to upgrade my a6600. Is it recommended to get a6700 or a7iv?
I cant find the setting for 1080 240fps. Where is it? Or am i using wrong sd card (v30)
with an external recorder like the ninja v, would it help the overheating issue?
Who wants to drag a professional camera around.
hi matt!
from wedding vid persect...
is cine ei preferable to what you've worked with in past? 🎥💃🕺
I enjoyed the history lesson. thank you for the review
Hello, I am an event videographer and I use a sony z150. I would like to switch to the sony a6700, I'm interested in a zoom lens but I don't know which would be better and not too expensive, around $1000. I look forward to your advice. Thank you very much.
Can't seem to find the native iso range for SLOG3 in the a6700 web manual - how do you know it's the same as FX30?
the overheating is really only a problem depending on where you live/where you are shooting.
Matt keepin it real for us texas wedding filmmakers. The fx30 seems better in every way.
Fantastic work sir! Question: Will a firmware update fix this issue?
What's "outdoors on a hot day in direct sunlight" in Celsius/Fahrenheit? My room temperature is usually around 29C/84F and I shoot 30-50 minute long takes.
Fuji X-S20 is the way better video camera: 6K 30fps OPEN GATE, 4K 60 etc. 10bit 4:2:2, available additional fan, better display
WAO...That sound! what microphone?
Please tell me the lens for the wedding is the most basic.
He is true, it is overheating at 4k 60
Hi, i bought this camera some time ago, and discovered that this camera overheat :( . I will start wedding videography with this camera because i have lo budget ;) also i wonder if the ulanzi cooling fan will help ? maybe i should buy tilta cooling system ? or sell this and raise money for a new fx30 ?
Didn't the firmware update help?
Does it overheats on 1080p recording?
I was just about to make the final decision and get the A6700.
But I’m in TX as well and the overheating issue really just put the stop to the preorder purchase.. I do Real Estate Videography (60 FPS) and Travel Videos as well.
Might just order the FX30 right now instead.
Go for the fx30 you’ll love it
@@whoismatt I ordered the FX30! Even a cage and all the accessories. Can’t wait to receive everything.
Thank you Matt, for the review. If I bought the A6700 I would’ve regretted it due to the overheating.
@@JoshSCG Fx 30 great camera but no evf and that kills it for me.
A really nice camera but I think I'll be sticking with my fx30 and a7iv
Great cameras
I'm really digging this camera, I also noticed the A7sII and then a6300 thing, and I was expecting this camera to be launched within the first year from the A7sIII release. It's been three years though, then I saw the fx30 and thought "that was it!" however, not quite, this is. Im rather interesting in filming good 1080p instead of 4k. I've noticed so many cameras had great 4k (or higher) video recording, but if you were to shoot in 1080p they sucked, didn't offer good bit rates and compressions. How is the 1080p in this one?
Can we use the fan for a6700 for long time recording
I want one for my C cam.
Currently use an A7siii as a cam, Fx-30 as b cam and hire a second shooter if someone wants 3 cams or more for ceremony.
This is exactly my setup! It'll be great for a C cam for video and B cam for photography.
My initial reaction was anger at the single card slot. C'mon, Sony. This is your APS-C flagship. Act like it!
I had it for a week and sent it back. It over heats so badly. Like 10 minuets and it's done.
a6700 or R7 for Wedding?
Among all mirrorless cameras, a lot of people are perfectly happy with their videos recordings stopped in the middle of magic moments. No big deal I guess.
Why consider any APSC camera for a PRO WEDDING/Pro ANYTHING photographer :)!!! These little cameras will have slightly less image quality and aren't built for a PRO use! But since 95-99% of photography/videography is by enthusiasts/amateurs, size and weight DO matter :). Try carrying around double the size of an APSC camera (full frame body plus full frame lenses) as you travel internationally!
APS-C FX30 would like a word with you
Hello, everyone.
I have already created several videos using the Pro mode on my Samsung S24 Ultra and a GoPro 12, but I believe that either the FX30 or the a6700 would be a significant upgrade for me.
it'll do amazing in my lovely canadian winter then
I would never use a camera as a pro videographer that did not have cooling (risking time outs) or a dual memory card slot...and I LOVE the SONY A6000 series, and will be ordering the A6700. I would put UP with the hassle of larger and nerdy camera bodies/lenses BECAUSE I want the best images, blow up print capabilities, and rugged durability of a pro level camera.
worth the upgrade from an A6600?
That's what I'm thinking. My biggest gripe with my 6600 is the 1080 codecs. They are garbage. I can't find a review yet that talks about the 6700 1080 footage
I thought I heard there was a firmware update that fixed the overheating. Hope that is true.
The Sony a5100 and a7C (and ZV-E1) have the single side door for the card.
But how about a B or C camera for wedding?
What if Sony keep coming out with cameras with overheating issues? sony zv e1 For example awesome camera but has overheating issues. But basically this is the same camera as this one.
Overheating issue can probably be worked around by adding a smallrig cage to dissipate the heat. I used to do that with my A6500.
adding a cage does not help with overheating.
And you want to keep doing that?
@@AlexanderBischoftilta has a fan with theirs. Not sure about smallrig.
Best Review!!
My question is does it fair better than the a6400 in heat? this camera is what I would be looking to replace it with as a b cam
Get a full frame as A cam and use your a6400 as b camera
Might be a good gimbal cam, for 4K 120fps with that intelligeant autofocus.
This paired up with the 18-105 G lens will be a workhorse for events.
Oh no, rly bad lens
@@mex5341Why is it bad?
How DUMB is Sony for not including a fan🙄🙄🙄
Do you think these overheating issues could be fixed with a firmware update?
Shooting mine for a while now and not even a over heating sign
The Sony A74 is still on my list
Too risky sadly, 4k 50 has become the standard (for me anyway) and it wont last, these cameras can not last in a Sikh or hindu wedding, that being said outdoors in the warmth sony cameras struggle to capture a english civil wedding
Damnit why does Sony do this this camera would be perfect if it didn't overheat so fast
Sony a6400 can recording all day and make movies without overheating
The biggest problem with these cameras is not the limite time, is even worst to dont know when will shut down...its so unprofessional
Put a cage on any sony camera. Cooling engaged
But GeraldUndone got better in overheat test😮
In a cooler environment
Just save your money and wait for the A7CII.
I will need a diagram with all the models and years.
What about 4k 120
Lately wony is making ovens and toasters
how about stabilization?
Works great
Still... it's to expensive for what it is: a heater fot those cold days in autum.
Until the heating issue is addressed Ill keep my a6600.
It is clear that there is a race for survival, here just like in the arms race
