I'm deeply, and well, invested in Sony emount lenses so moving to a different brand is a no go, for me. I have owned and do own several Sony emount bodies. I currently shoot with an a6600. It's a great camera and I enjoy using it. That said, the a6700 offers several 'upgrades' which are important to me and I'm sure I'll be picking one up. For me, the best improvements are the twisty-flippy screen, the AI chip for subject recognition, and the focus bracketing. Thanks for the good video. I enjoyed it and found it informational.
Compared to Fujifilm X-S20: 1) Better AF but poorer IBIS 2) Better video framerates but no 6k Open gate (i.e. lesser video resolution/real estate) 3) Larger EVF but lower LCD resolution 4) Environmental sealing, gyroscopic stabilization but lower battery life, no external cooling fan, no built-in flash, no AF joystick, no pre-shots... Both are priced similarly (except Europe), and both have wide selection of good lenses (including third parties). I much prefer Fujifilm X-S20 feature set and color science (SOOC), but can see Sony A6700 appealing to those shooting fast moving objects and/or if environmental sealing is crucial.
Fujifilm is discontinuing multiple bodies and form factors my concern is their shareholders want better returns and they are quietly quitting consumer lines
@@bradl2636 Thats nothing new, its a trend happening in the entire camera business, camera sales are only going down, in fact, Capitalism itself is heading for a brutal crash in 10 or 20 years. I be more worried about that crash because it might be the final crash thats gonna bring the market down, even in COVID the only thing keeping industries alive were government spending and loans, Fuji alongside Sony almost bankrupted in 2022, its a funny little side story that no one seems to care about, everything seems normal on the surface, but little do they know everything under is falling apart. Fuji and Sony got lending from the government to stay afloat and Mitsubishi essentially pumped money into both, Sony is still pretty unprofitable in most of its tech sectors. But Japan cannot afford to loose any more of its tech dominance so the government wont let anyone go bankrupt, also the Japanese government saved Olympus.
Thanks for the in depth review which convinced me to upgrade from my A6300 to this A6700. I am yet to put it to the test myself. What I do like to remark on is your complaint about rattly strap lugs that would ruin your sound. The A6300 has the same strap lugs, but I have never had any issue with them, but that is because I use them for the intended purpose: attaching a strap or lanyard, which I hang around my neck. No rattling anymore, ,because the straps prevents them from moving around. Also if you do not like straps, you can remove the lugs from the camera, admittedly with a bit of effort.
i bought 2 a6500 bodies 4 years ago used..been waiting to upgrade to better than a6600..am only serious amateur into stills..landscape street some wildlife..not bothered about flippy screens burst shots animal eye focus video battery life...etc etc.. , just the colours and resolution ..looking like a leap to full frame ..
I think I will wait for the Panasonic G9 II if such things will come. 4/3 sensor is a little weak in higher ISO, but over shooting experience, my G9 has just been great.
It will be nice to see some A7000 hi-end APS-C camera from SONY with body similar to excellent recent Fuji X-H2. I did not like older retrohipster Fuji cameras, but over time they implemented IBIS properly and now they stepped up the game with X-H2 to whole new level. It has good DSLR like ergonomy similar to my favourite Pentax DSLRs, it has two rollers, excellent top status display and very fine EVF.. compared to that, sony A6xxx line looks like flat brick with a bit of grip. Fortunatelly now A6700 at least has two dials like any proper camera should have. So lets hope they will continue with this and prepare something above, improve ergonomy, use dual card slot, 1/8000 hi-end shutter, 6mil dot EVF, higher resolution and 15+ fps.
I think this is a solid effort, but in my mind Sony should have spent a little more money for dual card slots and a faster mech shutter. This would be worth $200 to me. Maybe Sony doing a flagship bird & wildlife A7000 APSC in a A7 type body with 20 fps shutter, dual card slots and top end screens and viewfinder for $2000?
how many pros are there using APSC as their main camera? yeah wildlife maybe. but apparently the 6700 is NOT the flagship camera this generation, judging from their video
@@DDHDTV More people then you can imagine, most pros in the DSLR days, used only APS-C. Vast majority of Nikon pro bodies were APS-C and Nikon was the go to company in the olden days for professionals. Just because every RUclipsr today uses a Sony or whatever else full frame, does not reflect the userbase as a whole which is still pretty much stuck on older systems, very few "professionals" upgrade their gear and for good reasons, its good enough.
Leave it up to Gordon to come up with an incredibly practical and applicable review. I think this channel is right up there with the more popular ones and he's more than earned my respect over the years.
Wonderful videos and very informative. Only downside of this video is it being sponsored by Mpb, one of the worse experiences I have ever had purchasing camera gear, especially if a part ex is involved !
It was a while ago, so you'd need to check my flickr gallery for it, but I suspect whatever I pictured it with, maybe the 16-55 f2.8? And probably the 70-200 f4
I’ve been considering a 6700 in part as it is small, light and with many of the APSC lenses is quite close in size and weight to MFT travel kit (maybe not at long telephoto end). I was thinking of either an OM5 or this. I do pretty much a split between video and photos on long hiking or backpacking trips, so the Sony better at video (wouldn’t exploit many of it features though) but OM stab exceptional. Good news: nice to have choices…bad news…hard to decide! Any suggestions? Regardless, always enjoy your reviews! And yes, I sometimes keep it real light and go with an action camera and my Rx1007…maybe good enough!
Question - on the a6600 the raw files would be downgraded to 12-bit in 11fps bursts. Do you know if the a6700 is able to record full 14-bit raw files in 11fps bursts?
@@PatrickWithCamera Without this being a definitive answer, there is another reviewer who said that in his test he was able to shoot 10fps at 14-bit lossless compressed Raw. We may need to wait until the camera is released to the public to know for sure, but it seems likely since both the A7IV and the A7RV are able to shoot their bursts in 14-bit lossless compressed Raw as well
Wish Sony would innovate again. Not a compelling upgrade for existing a6x users unless you need something specific. Good value for new a6x users though. If only Fuji could equal the autofocus capability of this. Good review. Thanks.
Thanks! I agree, id love for Fujifilm to have Sony AF, but it's still pretty good and may be fine for someone's needs. I'm fine with it for most of what I do.
@@cameralabs If not the entry-level model, at least the mid-range model. I've been finding it difficult to consider buying an A6100 or A6400 because of their lack of IBIS.
How fast are the focus bracketing capabilities? I would mainly use it for insects and handheld, so I want to see if this camera could deliver fast enough burst so I don't move that much
Just wish that would make a battery grip for this I can't live without one. I talked to Sony and neewer and they had said they haven't heard anything about a battery grip yet.I just bought this camera now I feel I kind of shouldn't have. Although I don't like how proprietary Canon has gotten which was another reason why I went with the Sony I already own the Tamron trio lenses. So I'm invested now😢
Thanks for this review. Question? Are you able to shoot flash photography with this camera? Or is it the same as the fx30 which can take pictures but you can’t use a flash on it? Thanks so much
As @rsmith02 says, the limiting factor on the FX30 was only having an electronic shutter, but the presence of a mechanical one on the 6700 gives you greater flexibility.

@@cameralabs Right, I was thinking to get the M6 mark II + adapter. But I already have E-Mount lenses, so I gave up the idea. Fuji has the X-T5 @ 40MP, but then I'll need new lenses. So I think I will stay with the tiny MP bump of the a6700. I'm very happy with my Sigma 100-400mm in E-mount.
Me too. A7C has a lot of fans and I would love a ii. I have A7iv but too big heavy. zv-e1 but 1/30 flash synch. Fx-30 but no flash sych at all. A new A7Cii with 10 bit and maybe 120 4k would be awesome. I’d get rid for my A7iv for it
@@DDHDTV if the grip was any bigger than it currently is I wouldn't consider that camera anywere near compact anymore. the a6700 is a monstrosity by now. ever thought back how the NEX mount started? there are people (like me) who want a modern full frame body with the size of an nex-3
Another question does the body work with the transfer and tagging phone app? If yes that makes the one card slot a non issue for me as you’d have a back up on your phone and if the card failed you’d see there was not transfer and could change the card before many pics lost
Good review 👍 An excellent cinema 🎥/ video 📹camera. Professional. ...but not good enough as a wildlife camera. Doesn't have the 32 meg of the R7, and lacks the dual card slot.
Hello, I want to use focus stacking in studio photography. However, I will need 1.5 seconds for the flashes to charge. Is there a setting to extend the time between photo shoots? Thank you
Good question - I know you can choose mechanical or electronic shutter plus an initial delay BUT I don't think you can delay the time between each shot. I will check for my next reviews though.
I'm thinking to upgrage to x-s20 from x-t200. But I not sure. This a6700 made me think to change the system to sony. What would you pick? x-s20 or a6700?
Good review, though I had to slow down the speed to better understand your accent (maybe due to my aging ears). Why no mention of the a6500 in the comparison of Sony’s a600x line-up? Is it worth me changing over to the a6700 from the a6500? Not certain I see the benefit of such?? I’ll have to look at your video review. Maybe my money would be better spent on lenses?? Thanks for this detailed review.
Yeah I should have mentioned tge A6500 and A6300, but ran out of time! They all have the same sensor as the A6400 though so my results apply to your model too
Sony’s APS-C crop is 1.5x for normal shooting now with Active Stabilisation ON what is the effective crop factor? Does the crop factor vary by resolution setting?
@@bradl2636 thanks, I think the crop for active stabilisation is just over 1.1x - it's not huge, but it really does help as I've shown in my other video.
@@cameralabs Okay, let's say it's personal question, NOT INCLUDING your knowledge. If you had no information, would you like A7CII to be LESS EXPENSIVE than A7IV? I don't ask about if it is higher or lower price but what would you personally prefer? Like.. for me if A7CII will be the same price or higher then I can see no sense in it. At the same I expect A7CR to be higher than A7IV but less than A7RV obviously. I think honestly, it's nothing secret to ask another person how would you price it, I don't want you to share any informations.
I don't understand why you haven't brought up the advantages with this camera having a newer generation BSI CMOS sensor. How it dose low light much better than the R7. Better autofocus, all the Ai algorithms that the Sony a7RV has, better high iso noise reduction then the R7 and the same dynamic range as the Sony a7RV in crop mode?
You're quoting their marketing talking points. I prefer to test a product and present the results which I did here so you can see how it actually performs in practice.
@cameralabs no I'm not Gerald undone as well as Sony rumors conducted test to show that the Sony a6700 has the same dynamic range as a Sony a7r 5 in crop mode. And it doesn't take a scientist to compare sensors and what they're capable of doing even though the Canon R7 and the a6700 are both crop sensor cameras the a6700 sensor gathers light better and handles noise reduction better than the Canon R7. I know just like you you will make comments based off of facts tests and charts you can easily look it up. Not as intelligent as you are you're going to tell me that a regular CMOS sensor is better than a newer generation BSI CMOS sensor? I think not sir, and you know that as well. The Canon R7 has a regular CMOS sensor just like the Sony a6400 and a6600. Now it may be a newer generation regular CMOS but it's still a regular CMOS sensor. The Sony a6700 had the newest generation BSI CMOS sensor. It performs better with light Gathering read out speed and noise reduction at higher ISO levels. That us a fact sir and you know this. That's like saying a BSI CMOS sensor is better than a Stacked CMOS sensor and it's not when it comes to its capabilities. Look up the test that has been done by Gerald undone and petapixel when it comes to the different sensors and the capabilities and upgrades each one has on one another. I'm not using flashy consumer sell points I'm using facts that's been determined by test just like comparing a V6 engine to a V12 engine. Same but one is better. But thank you for your input
@cameralabs Oh and I forgot, the senor readout speed for the Canon R7 is 32.9ms While the readout speed for the Sony a6700 is 26.2ms Sadly the R7 can do 30fps with e-shutter and 15fps with M-shutter And the a6700 can only do 11fps with both shutters. But those are the facts. Which I beg you to look up. And it was a honor to talk cameras with you 💯 You make awesome videos
@@HagaishiSama you're welcome! As a journalist and tester, I'm briefed on all the specs and also make my own measurements. Remember I've been doing this for a long time - 18 years on RUclips and 14 before that on magazines. My own belief is we need to stop worrying about the numbers and descriptions and actually see what it means to the image or handling in real life. It's easy to compare two numbers and say one's bigger than another, but what you need is actual examples of how one will actually make a meaningful difference over the other in real life. That's what I think is useful and that's what I aim to do. But as you mentioned there are other channels that do it differently, so I always suggest following the reviewers who most match your personal needs.
I hear folks whinging about only one card slot but in 16 years I’ve never had a card failure. Always format cards in the camera you plan to use them in.
@@piotrch0 the Sony contact people don't always reveal or know that kind of detail. The only way to be sure is to photograph / film a DR wedge chart and actually measure it.
Thank you very much for the information! I've been thinking about changing my a6000 for an a6600 for some time but I've been waiting for this new model... Do you think the a6700 is worth it (I only use it for photos, I'm not really interested in video) compared to an a6600 with a difference of €400-500, that will they have? Thanks in advance!
a6600 is a strong camera and my main one for photography. If price is the issue I think you'd be very happy with it coming from the a6000. Put the savings into a lens if you're still on the kit lens.
Thank you so much. Until now I have bought lenses but I think that soon it will be time to change the camera to improve aspects such as ISO or autofocus.
@@miguelangelsanchez1930 Autofocus is improved, especially with tracking if you have subjects that move closer and farther from you. More buttons/better controls is also easier to work with. Noise should have improved from 2014. The battery is a massive improvement with the a6600+.
For the reviewer: are you also going to release any a6700 raw files? Or even do a wildlife shootout/test perhaps? How did you perceive the noiselevels so far, specifically compared to the a6600? Thank you in advance. Tiny
I've shown a noise comparison already and it's v close. I wouldn't choose it on this alone. As for raw files, what's the best way to affordably provide them as public samples?
@@cameralabs As @rsmith02 allready suggested perhaps, Google Drive seems to be very suitable for any raw files. As to why I'm interested in the a6600 noise comparison: I'm into birding and when having to crop (a lot) noise usually becomes more visible/noticable. I'm using a Sony a6300 still but am considering the choice between the a6600 and the new a6700. The new AF is what interests me most with this new camera but only if the noise levels arent any worse than the a6600. Thanks for the reply.
@@benoittissier58 it's a good question regarding the EVF refresh. I suspect every camera does it a bit differently and the manufacturers are unlikely to reveal exactly what they're doing! But the sensor readout speed is for the full sensor, in this case, 26mp of data. The EVF is only 2 Megapixels, so I suspect the sensor is readout for composition at much lower resolutions, in turn allowing faster refresh rates.
Yes most definitely, I'm surprised he didn't talk about how all the Sony apsc cameras has a regular CMOS sensor while the a6700 has a BSI CMOS sensor. Which is much better at gathering light and noise control. So this is way better at low light then any of the apsc cameras from Sony. I would say the tech for low light in this camera is on par with Sony a73 who h has a much older BSI CMOS FF sensor
@@cameralabsI picked up the A6700 a couple of weeks ago and am thinking of moving to the A7Cii. For birding in the UK with the 200-600 I'm finding I need to do more in post than I did with my old A7iii.
Just waiting on Panasonic to get off their hating money asses and come up with a G9ii. Then I can make a decent choice in a good value wildlife photography replacement. The a6700 is looking good!
Couldn't agree more! Updated subject detection and phase detect autofocus, perhaps a few more megapixels, higher mechanical burst with autofocus, fast readout, at least a stop or two better noise performance - also 4k 60p 10bit and 4k 120p with no crop. Real time LUT praps?
@cameralabs Personally £1500 would be amazing but because of inflation and the state of the chip market I could see it being closer to £2k. That's why this sort of competition is good! Sony have released this at a great price! For me just phase detect autofocus with a 95% hit rate for birds and other fast moving subject would be amazing. Maybe one stop better noise performance and that's all I could really ask for!
How would they fit the full-frame sensor and IBIS unit into an A6700? I'd agree it'd be the same flat top design, but it would be some impressive work to get the bigger imaging unit in there.
@@cameralabs Just a thought I should have compared the existing A7C dimensions to the A6700. Haven't done that. Perhaps a larger box but same form factor. It better have a better EVF and LCD though.
Since no-one actually measures just how well they're sealed, I wouldn't place too much importance on one being 'better' than another at this end of the market. For the top pro bodes yes, but at this end, less so. That said, the fairer competition for the 6700 is the Xt5 and that is tougher than the XS20.

@@cameralabsHell I’m amazed they released it at $1,399 and less than the a6600 when it debuted at $1499 years ago.. tell that chap to get a used Rx100 VA for the pop up flash and 24fps

yeah, I was having a discussion recently about top screens. If you can angle the main screen upwards, do you think there's still a need for them? When would you use them? I like them too, but found them more useful in DSLR days with fixed screens.
Thanks Gordon top review as always. Admit I was hoping for the screen like the A7R5 where you can choose as don’t find the rotate to the side useful very often as only do video if the record button is hit by mistake ! Was hoping to get a better view finder and a stacked sensor without rolling shutter. Not sure this is worth replacing my A6400 for. And had been hoping todays announcement would be for the A9III….. Can you reprogram me the record button to some thing else?
Yes I think you can customise almost any button on it, but vs your A6400, probably not worth an upgrade unless you really want IBIS, and even then maybe consider a discounted 6600.
If you're considering the A9, you might consider the A6700 as an upgrade for sports autofocus. Far from perfect, but better than the A6400 (test by the Northrups) and far from the A9iii price.
I had hoped for a LOT more, this new Sony camera are not a top of the line product, just made for those how like doing videos, for someone like me that only do still photography, I am missing 40 megapixels sensor, 5.8+ mega dot EVF. The fully articulating screen I cannot use for anything, I only use the screen max 1% of the time. 1-0 to Fuji !
@@cameralabs XT-5 has too low specs. I have a large Sony full frame system, so I am not shifting brand, but it would have been nice with a Sony APSC camera with specs at least as the Fuji X-H2.
I think the key thing to realize here is that for Sony, APS-C is never the top-of-the-line. Full-frame is. So, they don't want their APS-C cameras to be too good, because then people won't want to upgrade to full-frame. Fuji has no full-frame cameras, so they don't need to worry about that.

@@cameralabs better evf, higher fps, AF for animals as good as Canon or better with auto subject selection, better screen with a7rV adjustable abilities.
Yay here we go again….. the damn side hinged flippy flappy screen imposed on us 🙄 Sick of it, and sick of the huge influence RUclipsrs have moaning that every camera should have a selfie screen.
Chloe, there's nothing stopping you from also putting out videos saying what you think and which you prefer! As I've said many times before, RUclips reviews are by their nature made by people who film video daily, so they will inevitably place priority on features that make filming easier, especially filming as a one-person team. But that doesn't mean people have to watch them and give them as much influence as they do. If more people consumed reviews produced by photographers from a photography perspective, then those features would have more influence on future design decisions. Democracy is only as good as the people, right? As you know, I try to occupy both positions. I had 15 years as a journalist in print before RUclips even started, and that's why I value the written word and still publish written reviews on my site. And as someone who was a stills photographer for 20 years before video was even an option, I know some people couldn't care about video which is why I also try to produce two reviews on each new camera, starting with one focused on photo performance. And in this one I did say there are some who would prefer the old flip style! That all said.... I personally prefer the side hinge on a hybrid camera!
Hardly discrete and no advantage for street photography - tilt is best, and Sony invented it why abandon it Sony, as if you want to vlog get an EZ-1 since that resolution is good enough too for blogger media
God, Sony has become so unbelievably lazy and redundantly boring.. no wonder in one single year they went from the top all the way down to near the bottom of the list of market dominance. Every year is the same camera again and again with barely any new even recycled parts and some of the new releases are are inferior to their previous models.
Go back to the 1970s, the time I became camera aware. Every camera used film. Every SLR had a viewfinder. Every rangefinder and a viewfinder. Every camera took pictures. Every camera that used interchangeable lenses used interchangeable lenses. Boring, I know. That was until I bought my Nikon F2A, all black with a honkin' motor drive. I was in the driver seat then.
@@bondgabebond4907 I agree, most cameras were similar then and most of the innovations and differentiators were on the film itself. But then again, every camera you picked-up you instinctively and natively knew how to use and the lasted decades unlike now that there a paranoias of the never-ending "new" model every year that fundamentally the same thing as the one before. Before there were tools that you kept, loved and used. Now there are toys that you play with, discard and move on to lusting the next one.

2) Better video framerates but no 6k Open gate (i.e. lesser video resolution/real estate)
3) Larger EVF but lower LCD resolution
4) Environmental sealing, gyroscopic stabilization but lower battery life, no external cooling fan, no built-in flash, no AF joystick, no pre-shots...
Both are priced similarly (except Europe), and both have wide selection of good lenses (including third parties). I much prefer Fujifilm X-S20 feature set and color science (SOOC), but can see Sony A6700 appealing to those shooting fast moving objects and/or if environmental sealing is crucial.
Fujifilm is discontinuing multiple bodies and form factors my concern is their shareholders want better returns and they are quietly quitting consumer lines
you can't compare actual value to up to value. IBIS is only 0.5 stops better in X-S20, when compering same value.
lol XS20 is 300 Euros cheaper at 1400 vs 1700 euro of the a6700
@@DDHDTV in my country x-s20 is over 25% cheaper than a6700..., x-s20 is cheaper even with 18-55 f/2.8-4 than a6700 body alone.

Thats nothing new, its a trend happening in the entire camera business, camera sales are only going down, in fact, Capitalism itself is heading for a brutal crash in 10 or 20 years.
Happy to see you doing this Alpha 6700 review.

Gordon, Best review on this I’ve seen. Nice job. Will look forward to your later videos on its image quality.
Thanks! The video review is already ready for you! Plus a separate one on the new mic too
I think this is a solid effort, but in my mind Sony should have spent a little more money for dual card slots and a faster mech shutter. This would be worth $200 to me. Maybe Sony doing a flagship bird & wildlife A7000 APSC in a A7 type body with 20 fps shutter, dual card slots and top end screens and viewfinder for $2000?
That'll be the XH2
how many pros are there using APSC as their main camera? yeah wildlife maybe. but apparently the 6700 is NOT the flagship camera this generation, judging from their video
@@DDHDTV
More people then you can imagine, most pros in the DSLR days, used only APS-C.
Thankyou! Hope you get a chance to see my other videos released today!
Wonderful videos and very informative.
Only downside of this video is it being sponsored by Mpb, one of the worse experiences I have ever had purchasing camera gear, especially if a part ex is involved !
Shame. I’ve dealt with them a good few times and never had any issues.
Excellent review Gordon (as always!). What lens were you using primarily for your stiils?
And yes, I sometimes keep it real light and go with an action camera and my Rx1007…maybe good enough!
a6000 still rockin for me
An honest real life review apart from any hype, thanks!
You're welcome!
Question - on the a6600 the raw files would be downgraded to 12-bit in 11fps bursts. Do you know if the a6700 is able to record full 14-bit raw files in 11fps bursts?
Good question, but I'm not sure, sorry.
Did you found answer maybe?
@@PatrickWithCamera Without this being a definitive answer, there is another reviewer who said that in his test he was able to shoot 10fps at 14-bit lossless compressed Raw. We may need to wait until the camera is released to the public to know for sure, but it seems likely since both the A7IV and the A7RV are able to shoot their bursts in 14-bit lossless compressed Raw as well
Sony is the best here in terms of Af. technically perfect camera

Well put.
great review Gordon! thanks
Thanks Richard, nice to see you here!
Hi Gordon, which one would you take? This or the Eos R7? I know sony has more lenses but what about the body only?
There's too much to weigh up depending on your priorities and how you'll be using it. Probably R7 for mostly photo and A6700 for mostly video.
I hope Sony adds IBIS to the budget / entry-level model of this new generation.
That'd be nice but very unlikely
@@cameralabs If not the entry-level model, at least the mid-range model.

How fast are the focus bracketing capabilities? I would mainly use it for insects and handheld, so I want to see if this camera could deliver fast enough burst so I don't move that much
Depends on the shutter speed, you could see an example in my review
Just wish that would make a battery grip for this I can't live without one. I talked to Sony and neewer and they had said they haven't heard anything about a battery grip yet.I just bought this camera now I feel I kind of shouldn't have. Although I don't like how proprietary Canon has gotten which was another reason why I went with the Sony I already own the Tamron trio lenses. So I'm invested now😢
Thanks for this review. Question? Are you able to shoot flash photography with this camera? Or is it the same as the fx30 which can take pictures but you can’t use a flash on it? Thanks so much
Of course. It has a hotshoe (multiinterface shoe) and mechanical shutter so you can use external lights including strobes.
@@rsmith02 thanks so much for this really appreciate you.
As @rsmith02 says, the limiting factor on the FX30 was only having an electronic shutter, but the presence of a mechanical one on the 6700 gives you greater flexibility.

Very good video. Agree with most points. The Sony body design make no sense to me. Sony is missing a big market share for no good reason.
quick question: how do you select focus points when you are using the EVF if no joystick?
With the touchscreen

Another question does the body work with the transfer and tagging phone app? If yes that makes the one card slot a non issue for me as you’d have a back up on your phone and if the card failed you’d see there was not transfer and could change the card before many pics lost
The app didn't support the camera before launch, so I couldn't try that. It should have the same functionality as any other recent Sony body though,.

It is some build quality or plastic ? Good autofocus is most important
It's plastic over metal, similar to most cameras of this price. The AF is very good
I don't understand why you haven't brought up the advantages with this camera having a newer generation BSI CMOS sensor.
@cameralabs and you never did noise comparison test with the R7 and the a6700.
@cameralabs Oh and I forgot, the senor readout speed for the Canon R7 is 32.9ms
While the readout speed for the Sony a6700 is 26.2ms
Sadly the R7 can do 30fps with e-shutter and 15fps with M-shutter
And the a6700 can only do 11fps with both shutters.
But those are the facts. Which I beg you to look up. And it was a honor to talk cameras with you 💯

My own belief is we need to stop worrying about the numbers and descriptions and actually see what it means to the image or handling in real life. How can the viewfinder be refreshed at 120 FPS when the sensor delivers only 40 FPS ? Do they use pixel binning or multiple simultaneous readings ?
Where are you getting the 40fps sensor readout from?
@@cameralabs From Damien Bernal's and the Northrups' reviews : sensor readout time 25 ms or 1/40 s.
No one mentioning the change is LCD aspect ratio
I think I'm the only one who mentioned it!
I have a Sony a6300 should I upgrade to the Sony a6700
Same sensor as the A6400 I used in my comparisons, so you can check to see in my review videos.
Faster burst is useless, when you don't focus that well, like Fuji. This type of complaint is always off the mark.

Seems overpriced. I think at 1200 it would be great but it feels outdated in a way since there is so many full frame cameras to choose from nowadays
That's always the problem facing smaller formats, even if they have ALL the features.
I agree with you. Particularly when you consider the current price range with cash back of the Sony A7C.
With the a6600 it hit that price during sales within months of launch.
Just waiting on Panasonic to get off their hating money asses and come up with a G9ii. Then I can make a decent choice in a good value wildlife photography replacement. The a6700 is looking good!
What features would you want in a G9 II and how much should it cost?

@cameralabs Personally £1500 would be amazing but because of inflation and the state of the chip market I could see it being closer to £2k. That's why this sort of competition is good! Sony have released this at a great price!
For me just phase detect autofocus with a 95% hit rate for birds and other fast moving subject would be amazing. Maybe one stop better noise performance and that's all I could really ask for!

Since no-one actually measures just how well they're sealed, I wouldn't place too much importance on one being 'better' than another at this end of the market. For the top pro bodes yes, but at this end, less so. That said, the fairer competition for the 6700 is the Xt5 and that is tougher than the XS20.
@@cameralabs alright, thanks it’s my first camera… right now I’m pretty set on the a6700, and about to order now. Just in the middle of buyers remorse atm ahah
@@victorbmadslund if you feel passionately about one of them, then that's definitely the one to go for. Just don't expect too much sealing at this price point.
@@cameralabs No alright. It was also just in general because some people around me say it’s a waste and that I can just keep on using my phone…
@@victorbmadslund you need to surround yourself by different people!
My favourite APS-C camera, you ask.
Canon Eos 90D.
That is a solid choice
Excellent review! :)
Thanks!
We want the new 16-35mm 2.8 GM II and the new 85mm 1.4 GM II.
I think it will be an 85mm f1.2, they want to go all out.
Flippy screen and noisy lugs. Clearly Sony is trolling a bit 😄
Thanks for your effort on the tour and review. The work is appreciated.
Thanks!
Yay focus bracketing! I was sure Sony would leave it off again.
And a bulb timer! Did anyone else demo the focus bracketing?
@@cameralabs I’ve seen four or five videos and you are the only one to mention that.
@@Quietcloud I do like to be thorough
nice one gordo!
Another great review as always, thank you for your work! I'm curious and I'd like to know how do you think this camera compares to the Canon R8? Given similar features and price, but one being APSc and the other FF. Thanks!
I really like the R8, with the R6II quality and autofocus, albeit no IBIS. There's a lot of features to weigh up - depends on 4k 120 too.
@@cameralabs ty for your answer ~
Closed lens ecosystem…
A6700 n most of the 7Rs can't shot 30fps like the Canon R7. What a shame!
Yes, I wonder why the 6700 doesn't have a faster electronic shutter option.
Id still rather have a Panasonic gh7.
The GH7 is very strong.
This or xs20?
Which would you prefer?
I didn't mean to comment multiple times, but having watched other reviews, I'm a bit shocked that they claim rolling shutter has improved, when your demo clearly shows that it really hasn't.
It's improved for 4k video, but hardly at all for stills. It's important for reviews to test rather than quote. I always test
If it came with a pop up flash and was half the price it would be The Perfect Camera 😊
HALF the price! Welcome to 2023 mate!
@@cameralabsHell I’m amazed they released it at $1,399 and less than the a6600 when it debuted at $1499 years ago.. tell that chap to get a used Rx100 VA for the pop up flash and 24fps
@@cameralabs Thanks! Yes it’s wonderful here in 2023.
The a6500 has a pop-up flash. Works well for those darker indoor instances. Also has IBIS. Older model but still very good photos and decent video. I’m trying to decide if I should upgrade to the a6700 because of its better focusing and subject focusing.
Then... walk into a shop, ask for an A6700 with some cash.
So you have both the camera and the money when you arrive home.
That, my friend, is named a dream... only a dream.
Welcome to reality !
Then, if you still complain, try remembering when cameras were fitted with 8 Mpx sensors, no IS, no HD video, ni microphone input, garbage-level kit lenses... then sold the same 1400 USD price.
Now... are you complaining again ?
OK, I know what you need : write a letter to Santa Claus. Who knows what can happen ?
Looks very nice, would have liked a top panel display too.
Oh, Thanks MBP
yeah, I was having a discussion recently about top screens. If you can angle the main screen upwards, do you think there's still a need for them? When would you use them? I like them too, but found them more useful in DSLR days with fixed screens.
@@cameralabs I do admit to being a bit more of a DSLR shooter but a top panel display that shows basic information ( ISO, Speed, Aperture
and shots remaining. maybe OLED that turns on when the camera detects movement or light?
This or A7C??
Do you want APSC or full-frame? And think about the lenses too.
Yep, sounds like a Fujifilm XT5 or XH2 should be on your radar!
@@SylphDS NEX-7 was a top of the line at its time. If you have followed the camera news the lately years, many have ask for a top of the line Sony APSC Camera, so the market are there and many of those using APSC never "upgrade" to full frame, for me it will be very nice to have a 40 megapixel APSC Camera along my two 61 megapixels full cameras, with a 40 megapixels APSC you are very good to go for macro and wildlife !
@@SylphDS exactly, and the same for Canon, where APSC has always been the lesser option vs full-frame. Even L lenses have to be full-frame.
Was wondering if the new connectivity or rear screen impacted use with an "L" bracket? Otherwise, a nice comprehensive review, especially when combined with the video side, too.
Thanks, and yes, I'd guess an L bracket would get in the way if it was pushed up against that side of the body.
I've a Smallrig L bracket for my canon R6 which has a cutout to accomodate the flip screen. I would imagine they could do something similar for this
in Norway it cost 2100 dollar!!!!!!
I love Norway but it isn't known as the cheapest country in the World! I hope to visit again soon.
@@cameralabs we would love to have you :)
When sony use micro hdmi port : everyone , its ok its understandable from a such a small body? Its ok its ok forgivable
Canon did this, everyone.. unforgivable, nasty micro hdmi, and no 3rd party lens support bla bla
I criticise both equally. But to be fair, the R7 is larger than the A6700.
@@cameralabs its larger but not a large margin… still micro hdmi is unforgivable espcially sony is so focusing in video aspect like in the 6700
I think this time Sony is behind, the R7 is better in many different ways, now the R7 and a6700 have the same price.
Yep the R7 is the same in US now
sony g lens are beautiful ... dont know why their camera bodies are so dam ugly and uncomfortable to hold and use
Do you really find the a6600 or a6700 uncomfortable? The bigger grip is GREAT in my hands.
R7 > a6700
In many respects, yes.
As far as burst rate yes but the a6700 dose low light and noise reduction better then the R7 and it has better autofocus plus a way better lens system
1/4000th still... Better keep that ND filter with me then...
Yeah, or the electronic does allow 1/8000, but it's obviously got caveats
Disappointing camera for me, for all those years of waiting with A6400... :(
What things were you hoping for? For me, an AF joystick, higher res EVF, twin card slots etc, but I think that's basically describing one of the A7 models.
@@cameralabs better evf, higher fps, AF for animals as good as Canon or better with auto subject selection, better screen with a7rV adjustable abilities.
@@Roy88772 but how much would you pay? You've described a $2000 camera.
@@cameralabs Yes, but we talking about high end APSC camera after all. I don't know, I was counting for much more for a little bigger price of course.
@@Roy88772 have a look at the Fujifilm XT5 and XH2 at around $2000. They're really nice options.
Yay here we go again….. the damn side hinged flippy flappy screen imposed on us 🙄
Sick of it, and sick of the huge influence RUclipsrs have moaning that every camera should have a selfie screen.
I prefer it on the side as well to get it out of the way of accessories (eyecup, gimbal, etc.)
Except they are still at the top.
