That salt was giving me so much anxiety for you already beaten down bike! How much more can it take!!!! You got some incredible shots in there, and I liked how you used the really wide long shots. It made it feel so decilite. love seeing how far you've come in your journey, as a filmmaker and otherwise.
Amazing following your journey. I'm starting my trip from Colombia to Argentina next month so it's great seeing your videos and getting loads of inspiration
Hi Alex, great video as always, I’m leaving from Vancouver next summer and following pretty much same tracks as you, your videos have been a great resource for me! 🙏👍
@@Crankingit thanks that’s awesome man! I was wondering if you have any tips for camping in Colombia. My initial thought is to mostly ask people on farms or ranches if I can sleep on their land mixed with some cheap hotels stays once or twice a week.
Awesome! Its great to see you cranking it through Bolivia. We can't wait to watch as you continue south through Chile and Argentina! What a homecoming it will be. Keep on Cranking it!
Thanks! I'm in Argentina now and it definitely feels more like home. The desert in the north reminds me of New Mexico, but with empanada shops everywhere.
You're poor bike on that salt flat!!!! What a landscape though, worth the ruined components! Camping on that island must of been so cool! This is the best video you've done! All I can say is WOW!
Thank you! Camping on the island was definitely a unique experience. I heard about some people just camping in the middle of the salt, but I was worried about the wind. The salt was so hard it would have been very difficult to drive tent stakes.
The bike I ride is one I built myself using a custom frame from a shop in Seattle called Rodreguiez. I tried to use all old style components for easy replaceability. I have a video where I go over it in more detail. It has performed... okay. The frame cracked twice, and almost every component has been replaced at least once. I'll probably make a video after the trip is over to talk about what worked and what didn't.
Hi Alex, I have watched all 15 videos so far and I am totally impressed. You seem to take the really hard times so well which is quite admirable. Your strength has really grown since leaving Alaska and now you plow ahead on those steeper grinds. Can you tell me your start date and rating of sleeping bag you used in Alaska? Are you still using the same bag? Good luck for the rest of your journey, I'm looking forward to seeing it! Cheers Jim
Hey Jim, thank you! My start date was June 21 2023, my sleeping bag is 15⁰F -9⁰ C. I've used the same one since the start, though I didn't use it much ik Central America.
I can't believe u doing all this riding on that bike i would not enjoy going on a bike ride any bike ride on a bike like that an u did the grate divide on that thing
Man I need to get out of the USA. La Paz looked awesome! Wonder why Bolivia gave you such a hard time? Another great video, you plan on doing more touring after this?
La Paz was sweet, I'd love to come back and spend more time there. I've heard that Bolivia gives US citizens a hard time as reprisal for how the US treats Bolivians at the border.
waiting for this one. !! excellent production. was actually hoping you might hang a left and go down Paraguay way and explore the chaco. Looks like Bolivia is still ticked off at the US , Bolivians i guess are giving ICE to much trouble in the US. $160 and ALL that hassle at the border , I might want to deke across somewhere easy and take a chance. But for once better to be a Canadian than American while traveling. It was $160 for us too for the longest time.
I carried about 3 days of food and about two days of water. I was never worried about running out. In the most remote places, there were always tourists offering me water.
Hey there Alex! Thank you for sharing your adventure with everyone. Very good stuff! Fingers crossed that we too cross the Salt Flats one day. Are you checking your PayPal account? You should have received a little something from us back on 22 Oct, so we want to be sure you got it. Take care and happy cycling! ~Ron & Petra
@@Crankingit right on and you're very welcome. Yeah we will for sure, but when is the question. I was hopping to fly back to Costa Rica in March. Cycle a different area of Costa Rica and into Panama before hitting the boat to Colombia. I want to cycle to the end of the PanAmerican Highway and get a photo of the sign there saying you've reached the end and add that to the photo of our bikes in Deadhorse. Cheers Alex and keep on cranking and putting out your videos. ~Ron & Petra
You know, maybe it is just me and don't take this as a bad thing, but, your narrating style always reminds me of those late 80's, early 90's travel documentaries.
Thank you Alex for yet another really interesting instalment.
ciao

Lol, I was sure the bike would fall apart out there, too. I'm on the home stretch now, though. It only has to last a few more months!
Wow, I think this is my favorite episode so far. The landscapes were amazing.
Such a beautiful video. Thank you for sharing. I really love it. Good luck on the rest of the journey.
thanks Alex, I think you took a left turn onto Mars, great stuff
It really felt like that! Both the strange landscapes and the lack of oxygen!
"I am Reza from Iran. I love you." 😂😂😂
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Thanks for posting this great video .Chapeau.
Thank you Alex. Superb. Best Wishes from down under, look after yourself.
Thanks for having me on your side of the planet!
Amazing 🤩

Totally, Peru was beautiful, but the altiplano was unlike anything I had ever seen before.
Thanks! I'm in Argentina now and it definitely feels more like home. The desert in the north reminds me of New Mexico, but with empanada shops everywhere.
Sweet ride! 😊
Thanks Alex. Love your relaxing and informative style. Well done!
Tough conditions for bicycling but you are killing' it. The best of luck on your bicycle adventures ;
Thank you. The difficulty makes it all worth it, it retrospect.
stellar content! thanks
Great video. Looked beautiful and rugged.

Fantastic stuff... thanks mucho for sharing!
Alright - a new Cranking It post ... let's go!
Wonderful! Thanks so much.
What bike and tire width do you use for the trip. And do you find it enough for the Rough roads

There is just so much to do in South America! If only I had the time to do it all.
Another great EPS. How much water and food did you have to carry?

New tent?

Dude buy yourself a new bike like wtf that thing is a peace of junk bro.
That bike has gone from Alaska to Bolivia, I would hardly call it a piece of junk.
I probably will for my next trip. At this point, part of the challenge is getting this bucket of bolts across the finish line!
