Alex, I am always so impressed with your tenacity and strength and persistence. Wow, I can't even imagine how you do it. I love watching you do it! And the cool scenery is the most authentic travel blog ever! The videos are more and more professional as well! Great job!
Thanks Alex for your amazing video! My son and me along with a lovely Swiss couple were the bikepackers who were robbed last year just past Laguna de Mojanda…nice to see what we missed along the rest of the route and glad you made it through safely…it’s an amazing route and beautiful country with lovely people (except for those robbers…) hope to finish the journey someday! Thanks again for making great videos and Safe travels! Scott from Santa Cruz,CA
Hey Scott, I'm sorry that happened to you. It really is a cycle tourist's worst nightmare. I'm glad you and your son made it home with your health. I also appreciate your willingness to tell your story, we cyclists really rely on each other for information on what places are safe and which should be avoided. I hope you are able to get back out there soon! South America has been amazing for me so far.
This is a stunning video - fabulous scenery, great camera work! Really enjoying following your adventure. Glad you were able to get treatment for the tooth. Stay safe, and happy trails!
Been following for a while. But this challenging ride/episode caused me to comment to say you are doing an exceptional job. Mentally so resilient with the challenges. I’m jealous I’m not riding there.
very good stuff as always, shame about "losing" two weeks but it's for health's sake so always worth the logistical issues. just wanted to say thank you for all these videos, they've been really great and here's to more
Brilliant Alex, enjoy the time with your father, take your time in Cuenca, you will make it to your destination and remember that there is a "golden speed" not too fast and not too slow. Keep on keeping on cranking. Cheers and best wishes from down under.
@@Crankingit The "Golden Speed of travel" is in your hands and will always get you to your destination at the right time. The seasons, well fortunately, are in other hands. Crank on and happy trails from down under.
damn been so busy that I missed the pateron release of this! Love these videos man! Cranking it across South America! Wow how lucky that nathan got his wallet back! Really goes to show you the quality of people in that area. I got a suspension seat post and stem and that sucks up a lot of the road without killing power. At least the dentist isnt gonna cost your life savings like it would in the USA! I'm having a tooth problem myself right now and hoping I can stick it out till I start my tour and get to Mexico.
I'm glad you're enjoying the videos! I'm pretty lucky that Cuenca turned out to be a hub of dental tourism. I hope your tooth problem doesn't get worse. I couldn't have managed much more riding without treatment by the end.
I have many hills in my area and I find that a bit lower seat actually increases thigh muscle more therefore stronger pedaling up hills. But wow to be there!
This has been a real whirlwind, hope your tooth starts to feel better and you don't have to go to as many welders soon. definitely looks like its been a lot cooler lately. the scenery is really beautiful down there, I cannot believe how long you have been going for! What do you think your most unexpected challenges have been on this whole route?
Totally! I would say the biggest unexpected challenges of the trip were both in this video! I specifically made an effort to visit the dentist before I left to make sure I wouldn't have teeth problems on the road. I also got an extra tough frame so that it wouldn't break. Extra annoying when you work to avoid an issue and it happens anyway. 😕
I am using a Brooks b17 leather seat, which means padding isn't as effective. It's great, though, much more comfortable than any other seat I ever used. Shifters are some generic friction thumb shifters, easy to take apart if they need maintenance. I also have a suspension seatpost, but I'm not sure how much it's helping.
Great update Alex, thanks for sharing, I'm sure a little suspension of some sort would have helped on some of those roads, it looks pretty knurly in parts. Good luck on the next section, Cheers Bob...
Totally! Suspension would have made a lot of the road easier, I didn't end up getting any because it's another potential point of failure on the bike, and I ride a lot of paved roads anyway.
Man this was a great video! Thanks for bringing us along.

Thank you! Cuenca turned out to be the perfect place to get my tooth treated, tons of dentists everywhere!
No way! Amazed that the wallet got back to guys. Dude, thanks for your hard work and for taking us along. Keep cranking it!
Yeah, crazy series of events! I'm glad you're enjoying the videos!
Another enjoyable video 😊🇬🇧
Thanks! I'm glad you're still enjoying them!
thanks man, toothache is no joke and so pleased your friend got his wallet back, loving this adventure, great stuff
For sure! I'm pretty lucky there were good dentists nearby. And that we got the passport back!
Cool he was so lucky
Yep. Would have been a pretty unfortunate ending.
Excellent!
Bravo Alex! So glad to see your journey unfold. Heal well.
Thank you! It's been tough, but awesome!
what an adventure
Excellent video as usual!

Thank you! It really helps to have supportive friends and family, as well as so many people saying kind things online.

Thank you! Yes, it's always annoying to lose time, but yes, I agree, when it has to do with health, there isn't really an option.

@@Crankingit yea when you can't even lay your head down on a pillow without getting a headache its starts to get more than annoying!
I have many hills in my area and I find that a bit lower seat actually increases thigh muscle more therefore stronger pedaling up hills. But wow to be there!
Interesting, maybe I'll try that. A lot of big hills coming up!

love your videos, pls trzy an put measurments in metric sys. thank you
Are you wearing padding? What type of seat? Suspension seatpost? Also what shifters are you running? Thanks! I love the series.

You’re like Rick steves if he was addicted to pain instead of weed
I guess you could say we both like to get "high."
I like a little of both!
What animal predators are in Ecuador?
None that I know of, maybe in the jungle!
11:40 That's absolutely and positively *** NOT CHEATING ***
Oh, good! Sometimes I make things harder for myself for no reason.
