Paul, you, genuinely, are my favorite person on youtube. Please keep the videos rolling. Maybe someday soon youll come bike tour in Alaska, and we can ride together.
These videos are great. I’m hoping to be able to take some long trips on a bike when I retire in a few years. For now, an old Trek attached to a trainer in the basement will have to do. Can’t wait for summer.
I did just that. It's my second year of retirement and I went to Germany to visit family and ride the bike (old Trek 720) for about 620miles (1000 km). The ride confirmed everything Paul said in this video. I make a goal for every year. In '25 it will be in the US, 2 or 3 weeks, probably Minnesota or Wisconsin. Both states have plenty Rail to Trail conversions.
Hi Paul, I totally agree with your assessment... and, as always , enjoyed your video. Like you, I started bike touring as a teenager. Life has gotten in the way of touring most of my life but now, semi-retired, I am back in my third season of touring. Just hoping I can keep rolling as long as possible. Thanks again for your videos!
Hey Paul, thanks for your beautiful thoughts on bike touring. I've had the same type of experiences with complete strangers including water, meals, and help. Happy trails. ☮
G'day Paul, loved you're video mate, as you may notice by my greeting, I'm from Australia, just about to turn 65. About 7 years ago I bought a brand new Aussie made Touring bike, it has dyno hub, hydraulic discs and 27 speed gears, front and rear racks like yours and a set of Ortlieb Panniers. Have been wanting to do some bicycle touring for years but always baulk at it as I'm not confident to go too far concerned I wouldn't be able to get back lol. But I've decided this year, I'm going to buy a tent, matt and a couple of bits n pieces and head out with maybe 2 days worth of food just in case I conk out on the side of the road. I also have the issue with sleep apnea too so I have to take a machine camping with me with a portable battery to run it so I may have to take a solar mat with me too and every 3rd night maybe stay in a camping park with power to charge up my batteries. Australia is a huge Country, not much different in size to the USA but a lot of nothing in the middle, no Cities, just red dirt and the occasional roadhouse. I'm also a tortoise, so I enjoyed your reference of Tortoise and Hare. I also ride a motorcycle which I will also use for touring & camping so having the best of both worlds. I don't think i'll be going back to work again....i'm done with that caper!! Looking forward to your next Video Paul.....thankyou for this one....very inspiring.👍
Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it. Just start off slow, don't get in over your head at first and have an escape plan. As you build up miles, so your confidence will build also. Hope to see you down the road. Stay safe and ride on! 😎
Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it. That might be my dad's cousin. Daughter named Kathy? Softball player back in the day, Forest View HS? Hope to see you down the trail. Stay safe and Ride on! 😎
All great lessons for sure. I have to agree with every one of them - and riding the bike has confirmed that for me. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and another scenic, insightful video.

Thanks Paul. Terrific reflections. It conjurs good memories of bike touring. If you are an organized person you tend to be a tortois on a tour. You spend more time on the bike at an easy pace enjoying the journey. If you are disorganized, you tend to be a rabbit trying to make up for lost time getting up late for the days ride.
Another beautiful video Paul. I have shared this to all of my friends - a fantastic mentorship video right here :) Pretty lucky to be able to cyce tour New Zealand where I live - but there's not a huge amount of flat stuff!! Thankyou!
That shelter at 15.00 appears to be the same one where we stayed at Council Va., summer 2023. The two gals minding the swimming pool snack bar, who told us we could stay there, gave us a big box of cookies with a friendly note written on top.
Yes, Council, Va. By the time I got there the pool was closed for the day. I wanted to go swimming so bad, but not bad enough to jump the fence. It was a nice park. Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it. Hope to see you down the road. Stay safe and Ride on! 😎

Hi Paul. I'm a rabbit who makes his mileage on 20-40 mile 'sprints'. I've only dipped my toe into states that border my home state. You inspire me to expand my Strava heatmap to show rides far beyond my normal routes. Thank you!
Paul what you’re saying makes a lot of sense. It’s not a race in fact it’s a journey. I can ride fast relative to my friends but on our recent trip from DC to Pittsburgh we rode50 to 60 mile per day and took 9 day to enjoy the ride. Looking back and making the videos I can see how much we really enjoyed it and how much time we had to ride in our head or with each other. I hooked on the long distance bikepacking.

I've been putting 50/60/70 miles on my non motorized Townie. Super comfy but I may have realized that upright riding for long distances on a comfort bike can have a drawback. My tailbone. I think I might have to get a regular road bike now. Oh well, it was nice while it lasted. Thanks for the video Paul. Keep em coming. I am almost retired myself and I hope to follow in your footsteps. Nothing like being outdoors and I hope I can stay healthy to keep going for as long as possible.
Yes, while riding upright puts less weight on your hands, it also puts more weight on your butt.🤷♀️ Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it. Hope to see you down the trail. Stay safe and Ride on! 😎
This channel is a cyclist Shakespeare - various acts and scenes played out for our enjoyment. I've been there too! Out on the Katy Trail in the 100 degree plus humidity soup I was reckoning to just give it up and go home, but something in the spirit wants to carry on and wont let us. The trail was too wonderful to quit, too much beautify and sites of interest to be seen, if I could only keep the pedals going another few hours. Your videos are inspiring and loved. Keep up the good work.

Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it. Hope to see you down the road. Stay safe and ride on! 😎
I love to watch your video. Every time I visit your channel, there is something to learn.
Thanks

All great lessons for sure. I have to agree with every one of them - and riding the bike has confirmed that for me. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and another scenic, insightful video.
Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it. That water bottle is gone forever.🤷♂️ Hope to see you down the trail. Stay safe and ride on! 😎
@@paulsuchecki3985 yes, the water bottle is GONE.... We are fellow Illinoisans. I live in the St. Louis metro area. Give me a shout if you're ever pedaling through!
@@bikesandbeyond618 I was in Belleville yesterday to see a doctor. Been off my bike since July on account of some health issues. Hope to start riding again soon. Love the Katy Trail out of St Charles. Keep pedalin'.
I like the tortoise and the hare analogy! Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it. Stay safe and ride on! 😎
Good advice Paul.
Especially numbers 3 and 6.
Thanks.😊
Thanks again. I really appreciate it. Stay safe and Ride on! 😎

The best bike video I have seen in a long time! Thank you for sharing!!!!
Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it. Hope to see you down the trail. Stay safe and Ride on! 😎

Hi Paul. I'm a rabbit who makes his mileage on 20-40 mile 'sprints'. I've only dipped my toe into states that border my home state. You inspire me to expand my Strava heatmap to show rides far beyond my normal routes. Thank you!
Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it. Stay safe and Ride on brother rabbit! 😎
Thanks for the great advise.

Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it. Stay safe and ride on! 😎
Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it. Sounds like a great trip. GAP and C&O is a great trail. Hope to see you down the trail. Stay safe and Ride on! 😎
Thank You Paul. Peace and enjoy the "ride"
Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it. Peace to you. Stay safe and Ride on! 😎

I enjoy your videos.. thank you.. I am so similar to you. I am 64 , a little over weight and pedal kinda slow. Love multiple week bike trips. Keep the videos comming..
Thanks for watching, and you're never too old to slow down and enjoy the ride. Hope to see you down the road. Stay safe and Ride on! 😎
Wonderful words of wisdom. So many people could learn those lessons if they just slowed down.
That's what I love about bike touring. It forces me to live at a slower pace.
As usual, I admire what you do!
Thanks again. Ride on! 😎
Great video Paul. Entertaining. Well thought out. Great editing. Great thoughts ! Thank you

Great video! Beer!? I have never been offered one yet on my bike...you are one lucky caveman Paul! 😅 Cheers & Happy New Year 🍻
Ice Cold Beer! Happy New Year to you. 😎
Your a wise man Paul. I hope to meet you out on the trail one day. 🤠
Thanks. I really appreciate it. Hope to see you down the trail. Stay safe and Ride on! 😎

@@crios42 life is better on a bicycle.
Well done, sir. You certainly have things figured out.
I'm still figuring it out, but thanks for the kind words. Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it.
This past summer, it was hot everywhere. At least the trail has some shade. Hope to see you down the road. Stay safe and Ride on! 😎
100% agree with with you Paul, thanks man, great stuff
