- Dalton enlists three generations of family members to bring this 1970 Ford Mustang Grande Coupe to life for a good ole REVIVE and DRIVE. Brother Cody helps get the pony car's 302 engine started and running before Dalton works over the brakes. Dad John fits some trim, and son JD does some cleaning, man's the camera, and provides on-point quips before he and Dalton take the once-abandoned car for a drive and, of course, obligatory burnouts! ► Please Like, Subscribe, and Share with Your Friends!

OMG!!! You Guy's are Sooooooo Dangerous it's Scary one Day someone is going to get Hurt. Then it's NOT going to be so Funny anymore it only takes a stupid mistake and then it's all over...
How is anything in this video remotely dangerous? I'm a relatively skilled driver in a remote area with clear visibility, driving under 50mph. You probably drive 10 under in the left lane in your Prius.
@@PoleBarnGarage Prius is sooo yesterday. Like he totally rides a Tesla. On auto pilot ; )
So Why are random Words Capitalized? Is it to Make A Point?
anyway Life is scary, you Don't Like it go Hide in a Hole.
@@PoleBarnGarage You are the King of comebacks
@@rvman3359 Though to be fair, it's quite fun to pretend you don't know what kind of car a Tesla Nut drives, and call it something like 'that white Prius' or 'Your blue sedan'.
Seeing the bruised ego and sheer deflation they get at being denied yet another chance to brag about their hipster shitbox is hilarious.
You are the budget king, the other channels have got too fancy from all the sponsors throwing new stuff at them. Keep up the ‘Just do enough’ work to get it going :)
I appreciate that!
The lack of subscribers is criminal.
He needs to try social media
I’d love to see a full resto, always thought these model years were underrated
I agree. I almost bought one like this I the late 80's, but the ex said no..
Restoring this would be worth it.
Id be happy with a rusto..floors disks some body then put a blower on it ! thats what sponsers are for!
Seeing how he did with his sons cars bodywork, i'd love to see that kind of redneckery paired with actual knowledge and skill again too!
Would like to see a mechanical restoration to start with and then the bodywork to paint process
You need to do it like you did your boys car
you probably just need to make sure you have a vacuum Line hooked up to the transmission modulator to get 3rd gear,
(c4 wont shift to high without it)
I'm digging the variety of projects lately. I'm still excited for the big block van, but the Mustang and square bodies have been really good shit.
Need to break up the squares a little because we're about to get balls deep in stepside
Lol
There is nothing wrong with that transmission!! That aftermarket hood scoop activates 3rd gear when it opens the air flow. You just need to cut a hole in the hood and rehook the airflow solenoid transactivator. Simple! Love the video,as always
I thought it was cut a hole in the roof?
@@PoleBarnGarage You might check that headlight fluid. last time i did mine i forgot to rotate the bulbs now they squeal when you do a j turn.
If there has ever been a RUclipsr id like to belly up to the bar with, buy a few beers and trade stories, it's Dalton.
God bless you all always the best ever stay safe drive safe
JD does a heck of a job of filming all the action.
Does that transmission have a modulator valve? Is it hooked up? Is it bad? Could be why you don't have 3rd gear.
I love watching you doing the burnouts and drivin like ya stole it out in front of the really nice Bougie houses. It reminds me of me and a friend from back in the day raisin hell in his old mercury monarch until we laid it in a ditch on its side. I think the drivers door weighed about 350lbs. Fun times! Keep it up!
The rich folks neighborhood is my test track
@@PoleBarnGarage Easy Dalton, you keep it up growing followers and you're going to be rich some day, look at Derek.
@@soeasy357 difference between being rich and acting rich
Dude your going to be the richest you tuber in the grave yard.
He’s already there besides the graveyard part. 3 square body’s, a mustang, a vette, classic Pontiacs, he’s got all the high dollar collector vehicles. Lol
@@Robrt32 not to mention a million dollar shop.
I enjoy his videos because unlike others; Dalton actually has a REAL job. Seems like the kinda guy we’d have a beer with
I always favored the 1969-70 coupes more than the èarlier models. They have a more muscular stance.
I honestly know they have people all over the country selling them cars for basically nothing so they can see it running and driving on RUclips and brag about it! Which is sad because I’d be driving it every where showing it off!!! But I’m disabled and I have given up on getting my dream car. He has both of my dream car’s the lemans and Torino. But being disabled and 54 almost 55 I know it’s going to be be God’s will if I get my dream car’s or truck!!!
Late to the party here, but as mentioned in previous comments the no 3rd gear issue is likely a vacuum modulator problem. Without it hooked up it'll only shift into 3rd when the governer says it's had enough of 2nd, which depending on the gearing could be as high a 80 mph. If it's hooked up and getting manifold vacuum then it's likey damaged or there's a problem in the valve body. The direct clutch is used in reverse and 3rd, so at least you know it's capable of 3rd if reverse is working.
That's a pretty solid rig. I think you should leave the patina as is. Looks good on it! It's gonna be awesome to see what ya do with the .22LR Mustang. Definitely gonna have to get .22LR Mustang decaled on it somewhere 😂
I’ll take those slicks off your hands, I’m only like 45 minutes from kc 😂 in all seriousness though, seems like another good candidate for 6 gallons of tractor paint
Great to see another episode of Dalton and JD rescue another classic car . You are raising a good kid ,
That came together pretty quick. Seems like a decent start. Do I see another tractor paint episode in the future? I think it’s good to have a couple projects going. You can amass parts and work on the other. I think we all probably like a little variance.
Figured we needed a break from squarebodies
@Pole Barn Garage I can't wait for your quality engineering on the Silver Dollar replacement panels. It's gonna be minty fresh.
@@PoleBarnGarage NEVER!!!!
No tractor paint!!!!! Look at that beautiful patina!!!! Clearcoat that it would look absolutely beautiful
You could have New contest idea here, guess how many times the Mustang has been painted. With a grand prize of a new rusted wheel cylinder. Must be 21 to enter.
Great content guys. Man I must say your building some great memories for JD. Keep up the amazing work 🙂.
We will!
That transmission has a vacuum modulator on it, if it leaks or the hose comes off, you don't get 3rd gear.
Whenever JD shows up is when things actually get done around the shop. Keeps dad on his toes..😉😉
I AGREE!
Another episode full of ‘hold my beer’ moments!
Absolutely want to see more of the 22 long rifle! :) Excellent vid, as always, Dalton. Wish I had a C4 to send ya. Unfortunately, all I have is a couple core small-block C6s. Really looking forward to more of this Mustang.
C4s are still common. I just got one for free for my Falcon. They also used the FMX in some. Change to the C4 if you can.
Had a 70 grande. Green, ps,pb, 351 Cleveland , holly 4bbl , locker rear 9" loved that car. It did have the half black vinyl roof. Looks to have good bones. Do a full restore on that one
Really love how you through stuff together and your still a 16 year old hooligan behind the wheel sometimes
Shit your just like me
“Looks like I’ve worked on this before”
The Mustang deserves a paint job. Maybe low bucks like DJ's car got. It seems worth saving.
Not a mustang guy but I love the look of that car. I also love that you take the car to do burnouts around the pricey neighborhood. Classic IDC moment
HOW do you only have 71k subscribers? But in the same breath you can ask how you have 71k subscribers? You are definitely my kind of mechanic. I'm never going to let you touch my vehicles but you do have the same mechanic style as myself. That's not a good thing but it works for us. I really enjoy watching you work. Then again I'm a state employee and I enjoy watching everyone so I don't have to. Keep up the good work? How about keep up the work. Square Bodies for life. I'm gonna get me a shirt from you and wear it next time I'm watching you work.
"keep up the work" I love it
So awesome that he has more than doubled that since this reply. He's been keeping up the work.
The high/reverse clutches are applied in reverse and third gears so if you have a solid revers, third might be recoverable by adding Lucas to a fluid change. More pressure is applied in revers as compared to third. An old school option is to add a table spoon of brake to the fluid, short term, which will swell all the seals. Then change the fluid and drain the torque converter to assure to get all the brake fluid is removed. I remember that Ford made a brilliant engineering move and placed catalytic converters on either side of the transmission which boiled the transmission fluid and harden the seals. Leaving an o-ring in brake fluid over night will balloon it.Try the Lucas first. Nothing to loose!
I'm not familiar with the C-4 that may have been used here. He really should check the VIN. If it is the BW cast iron auto then U'r suggestion works. When that trans in my '68 javelin bit the dust I scraped and saved 40 lbs. from the car. Put in a Chryco 904 with a TransGo shift kit with a " modern " 304 and fun was my new mantra ! And, stingy on the fuel. Cheers.
Woohoo new PBG video right after work 😁
Had to get it out before I left for WI, so you guys get to enjoy plenty early!
@@PoleBarnGarage yep folks.....
Lil fact.... just imagine.... buying a fully loaded million dollar Cobra jet for the price of a V6
Cobra jet mustang back then was.....5,495!!!!!;
Car looks pretty solid for its year. A lot more solid than the one I had back in the 80s.
So I need to remember that if I ever get pulled over…”officer, I’m not drunk, I only had 1.1 Bar!”
Love the content. I watch a few of the other channels as well, but you seem to be the most genuine, backyard mechanic out there, and I mean that in a good way. It's just like me being in my driveway using a sketchy garage jack rolling around in the gravel, injuries included. Thanks for keeping it down to earth and genuine. Not casting shade on the other guys at all, but you are the real deal.
Appreciate it, I try my best
This pony got put out to pasture a while ago. Looks like it was originally gold, I bet in it's day this car was so 70's it hurt.
Great video as usual. This Mustang is cool and I think it definitely deserves a paint job someday
Better tell your friend to be careful about the "revival" jokes. You'll get a "phone call" asking for his number so that he can get a "phone call".
😂😂 you never know who's watching
Great video, and yes would love to see more of ole 22 on the channel. Keep up the awesome work😃😃😃
Surprised how well it runs! It cleaned up nicely. I think you should invest in some of Junk Yard Digs degerm spray for the 💩 covered interiors!!! Nice job 👏!!!!
The editing alone in this video is perfection there had to be a few thousand videos in this one video nice work guys very entertaining Dalton @Pole Barn Garage
Ah the old Craigslist rebuild on those brakes.
The old girl looks a bit rough but from what I'm seeing she seems pretty solid under that surface rust and cruddy paint. Probably worth a stop at the cleaning products area at Menards when in Iowa or Wisconsin if you don't have them by you and get a case of Dgerm that Kevin and Mook turned me on to for defunking the most funky messes and really give that interior the once over.
A lot of people are talking patina but she might be worth the under 200 Amazon auto paint kit and at least a working guy's restoration.
I've found a small pipewrench is just about perfect for those extremely stubborn brake lines. Especially if you've already rounded them off.
They make them that small?
@@PoleBarnGarage yep, about the same length as a normal wrench. No idea where to buy one, I'd assume the usual places. "Borrowed" mine from my Dad's toolbox about 20 years ago as it was so handy.
Check evil bay I just found an 8 inch long one for $25 used
If it was me, I'd probably clean the windshield before driving.....
You and your brother is comedic gold, y’all had me laughing my ass off.
That was a fun episode, I am a sucker for a classic mustang though. I want to point out three things because that's my job as a RUclips commenter.
-Theres a high chance thats a roller cam 5.0 HO motor
-those efi valve covers don't have a provision for a pcv valve, I would consider spending the $0-50 on a set of valve covers that does have a place to add a pcv
-there are two valve bodies used in 65-73 mustangs c4 transmissions and difference is where they placed the position for drive. on a early 65-67 valve body drive is one position further back past reverse than on the later cars. I have had those swapped on a couple cars before and you think the trans is broken until you knock the shifter and it finds drive magically in the second gear position then it works. your linkage could be all sloppy loose too.
That was great, cant wait to see more.thank you
You know what? I never liked that year of "notchback" Mustang...until now. I gotta say that the patina paintjob makes that thing look like a street brawler. And now I'm in love with it!
I still kinda don't like it, but it's growing on me
@@PoleBarnGarage JD seems to like it, he'll be driving soon... just sayin
Gotta say of all your crazy questionable sketchy decisions THIS one is our kinda machine! Digging the look, WOULD rock. Seems almost a little to complete and comfortable for you doesn't it?... does it need a new home? ;)
Oh Hell
Glad to see I'm not the only one who always has to make a dozen runs back to the shop.
it looks good like to see more maybe paint like jd car ???
Probably something like that
Got a 69 mustang down in Georgia if you want to come down, throw in the engine, transmission and drive shaft in it 😎
Dalton and his side kick have good chemistry.
Badass Mustang Forever.. 😁👍🇺🇲🖤🖤thanks! Save the Horse. 🖤🖤
That can be a neat little rat rod 👌🏻, keep up the great work Dalton 🤙🏻
Thanks! Will do!
Wondering if the ol' Holey Goat is starting to feel neglected. This looks like a fancy man's car by comparison. 😆
😆😆
Check that the vacuum is hooked up to the modulator on the transmission. I have had that issue before, and it is the same issue. No 3rd gear. My buddy bought a Ford truck cheap because of the bad transmission. We drove it off the property and I climbed under, hooked up the vacuum line and he drove it home with all 3 gears.
I'll take a look
Score!!!!😂😂😂😂😂
Awesome video! Just an FYI you can put Granada spindles on that car and have disc brakes. You'll need a different master cylinder or a portioning valve to dial back the pressure or it will grab really hard. Ask me how I know. :) Also it may have been mentioned already, but if you hook the vacuum to the modulator you should get 3rd gear back. If you have reverse then 3rd is there. Keep up the kewl videos.
Not a ford fan but very cool car. Can't wait to see wha you do with it
everybody should be a Ford fan
@@toddbob55 maybe but thank God they aren't lol
Lmfao "it's in a field" "it's a revival can it drive 300 feet home" lmfao Dalton 🤣 😂 @Pole Barn Garage
Your out standing in your field! 🤩😉🤣
Buh dum tisssss
The 1970 mustang was and still is my favorite year and style!!💗💗 I like the 1969 too! Which to me is always funny because both of those years were made by a guy that left GM and went to ford for 2 years!!😂😂
😂😂
I think it would be cool for you to swap in a aod trans and a 4bbl and make a daily out of it. Maybe some more “restomod” things to make it a better driver. Definitely cool to see some variety!
I was going to say I don't know how nice of a carburetor you want on it but I was just letting you know you can go up there for like 89 the $92 and buy a really nice knockoff two-barrel for that car on Amazon
New brake drum in a can!
On your transmission make sure your vacuum modulator is hooked up. I had a 64 mustang i was working on do the same thing and the hose rotted off.
I have never touched drum brakes in my life but after watching hours of you and junkyarddigs I am sure I can do the rear drums on my 91 celica with no help at this point
Drum brakes have their advantages. I don’t consider them an outdated design in the least when they are incorporated on rear axles of certain applications.
Man, my first car was a olive green metallic 1969 Mustang Grande with a 351 Windsor. It had a vinyl top, cloth seats and the horn button was actually Intergraded into a rubber strip on the inside circumference of the steering wheel rim.(if that makes sense).
It was in remarkable shape when I got it(1978) but I ragged it pretty good and ended up painting it in emerald green metallic Imron. I put American racing Vector(think the Duke’s General Lee) wheels with 60s all the way around. It looked really sweet for awhile.
Awesome and JD was having a blast. Brought back memories from the seventies when I used to work on old cars and then raced them. Thank y'all
Thanks for watching!
Actually water trickled into the carb works best for removing carbon in the combustion chamber. ATF in the oil will clean out sludge internally. ATF down the carb just makes smoke that smells bad.
I do love the idea of a father & son projects but the chemistry you guys have with the new guy for the channel is like where has he been my whole life.!!😂😂😂
You guys are funny as he 🏒 🏒
Woot Woot! Thanks for the new video!
You betcha
More like a 22 short. We need a 3rd gear for it to be a long rifle Mustang. Other then that the car is ' Perfect '.
That was a cool little revival, the ol stang performed pretty well even with the trans leaving the chat!awesome video! Can’t wait to see what you do with it
Excellent video it's nice to see the family getting involved to.a few more tweaks and the car is golden.very cool channel keep the good work up 👍👍
Thanks! Will do!
I love the videos keep up the awesome work! Also gotta love all the upgraded safety features.
Thanks! Will do!
“Do you want to put your eggs all in one basket?” Well considering the price of eggs….
Honestly love the way this car looks!
Pretty sweet Mustang. I just bought a 65 myself, pulling my hair out trying to figure out what's been done to the ignition switch.
What do you mean? What's it doing/not doing?
There is no spark at the coil. the last guy added a wire from the center lug on the ignition switch that taps into another wire under the dash, runs into the engine compartment, and stops. I feel like something under the dash is grounding out and he was using it as a jumper wire.
Good one Dalton, love the way you both worked to revive a car worth saving. Be safe.
JD's wheels makes it JD's Mustang... rules are rules! Not having 3rd gear might be just the limiter a man cub needs to minimize future troubles.
You know we need more of this.
I know you're not a "patina" fan. Nor am I, usually. But I feel for some reason it just works on this car. The shiny-ish Bullitt-ish wheels and the 17 body colors... I dunno, I say keep this look for now. Good luck with finding a trans. Hopefully someone closer your way can hook you up!
I think I have one, and also an idea on how to fix this one
This 'stang would be another fantastic example of your budget restores like you did with JD's current. You did an amazing job saving cash and showing us how it can be done for we people that don't have space or time, but making it the best we can on a budget. Out of all the Tubers I've watched, you're keeping it real and I appreciate that.
That said, this car really deserves to be, 'Barn'restored'. IMO, I think this would be such a cool vehicle for, JD- it's got a lot of guts from what I saw so you have plenty to work with- after a little TLC and some tractor paint, this car could be amazing looking.
Just my two cents, either way- great vid chum and love seeing you climb that much further to, 100k!
I'm kind of thinking the same thing James! But you said a lot better than I would have.
Oh it'll get a budget restore for sure, JD isn't really into it though
@@PoleBarnGarage I can respect that, JD likes what he likes- and I also love the '59 Custom; however, growing up, I looked up to my eldest brother and he got me loving 'stangs. When I saw what you have to work worth, I know you can make that thing look dreamy with your budget, yet AMAZINGLY low budget and effective techniques! Are you planning on keeping the same power plant, or beefing it up? Either way, can't wait to see what you do with this gem! IMO, this, when done to your specs will be another 'Goat' in popularity! (100k, here we come!)
Aww yeah, working on fuel things with a lit cigarette. 🙂👍
Hell yeah! New video. If you ain’t watchin, you ain’t right!!!
I really dig the rusty scrap yard cammo look of the paint.
Dude nice old mustang 👌 very cool
Come on now. What did you really expect to happen when you showed this car on the walk around? Lol
Car will fix I think body is not too bad. Poopstang LOL I like mustangs. I have seen worse Rustangs. Its not too bad really. Runs pretty good all things considered. I think it would take a decent paint job I cannot really see it that good from my house but it seems pretty good. It might have bad valve guide seals or it the rings are sticky try runnning some B12 in the crank case and down the yap. then change the oil. Or the video I saw where they poured seafoam in the crank case and freed up the rings. Its scary though could spin a bearing. it you do that do not rev the snot out of it before you change the oil.
Honestly it’s not a bad lil mustang, definitely worth fixing up. Great video though, keep up the good work.
The Mustangs were originally marketed by Ford For House Wives as family putt to the grocery store cars and for there kids and then men started taking them for fun and racing @Pole Barn Garage
Four wheel drums on a 70 Mustang? I wouldn't have guessed. I thought everything had front disks in the 1970s. My Iced Tea just came shooting out of my nose when you said those bearings were full of the same stuff all over the back seat. Too Funny!!! That's what I love about this channel, Sarcasm, Funny anecdotes, and real wrenching!
Discs weren't standard on most anything until 76
That mustang is growing on me. Might have to see more of it! Road trip perhaps??
on the brake but, drivers side - drill a hole at the ket and tap it then run a screw in there... I for sure thought you might do that
Since this is the coupe instead of a fastback, shouldn't it be 22 short instead of 22 long? :) Mustang guy here and it was nice seeing you get this thing going and having some fun with it. If you were near Ohio I'd give you a c4 out of a 66 that needs a front pump and bellhousing (broken in a crash, not worn out) As bad as it looks, it probably wouldn't take a huge investment to make this thing a real driver. Always fun seeing you make what most see as scrap, run and drive.
Them wheels look good on that old mustang from 1 mustang to a 57 Ford back to another mustang 👌 @Pole Barn Garage
Love the look of the car just the way it is, a lot of people pay big money to make a car look like that. Seems to run pretty good, no power house but it’s just a 2bbl 302, good daily with a new trans and some interior work.
The 302 is a tough engine. Had those in two station wagons and they ran though hell and high water and would still keep going every day despite being low on oil or coolant. One of Ford's better engines 😊
Heck yeah, I definitely see tractor paint in this little ponys future.👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸
Since it is a 1970 with a 302 v8, that means it is a boss.
Yup that's a G code.
For reference, a "bar" is a metric unit of pressure equal to 100 kilopascal (kPa) and comes to 14.5 psi. For comparison, sea-level atmospheric pressure (1 atmosphere, or atm) is 14.7 psi, so roughly equivalent.
Make sure the neighbors can see it, or you will lose the shop!!
