In 1996, I found and bought a 1973 Torino with 29,400 original miles. It was like new, garage kept, factory belts and hoses were still on it. Paint code 2B bright red, base model with exceptions of 351W, FMX, sport gauges with tach, power disc brakes, power steering. Interior was base black bench seat. I installed rear sway bar, gas shocks, 15" x 8" wheels with fat radials, dual Flowmaster exhausts, and then drove it daily for the next 20 years without any major problems. Gave it to my son about 5 years ago because he is a better mechanic than I am. He was with me when I found it, age 5, and he grew up riding in it daily. I will always love these cars. Congrats on getting yours.

I realize those are his cars he can do whatever he wants but in my opinion he's not enjoying most of them. That's why I enjoy. I bought a 1973 Gran Torino (2-door, with 351 "Cleveland" V-8) after my beloved 1967 Mustang got totaled by a drunk driver. My Torino wasn't the fastback, though. I'm glad you like it, I hope you are happy with it. Mine was really, truly, far & away the WORST car I ever owned (and I once owned a 1974 Vega!). I was about to go back to college, I HAD to have wheels. ANY wheels. Huge on the outside, only so-so interior space. Handled like a barge. Guzzled gas INCREDIBLY. Rusted like crazy. Fragile cloth seats. I was FINALLY able to unload it for $600 a couple of years later. But HEY, "Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln..."
Still, I can tell you're happy, that's what counts. Best wishes!

THEN OTHER CARS AS WELL THAT MY PARENTS HAD. 1974 ROLLED AROUND AND MY MOM BOUGHT HER FIRST 1970 BOSS 302 MUSTANG AFTER HER DIVORCE. I WAS 12 AND SHE WOULD LET ME DRIVE IT IN RURAL WADDELL AZ. SHE WOULD TELL ME TO HAMMER IT AS WELL. THE FASTEST I DROVE IT WAS 120. HER SECOND BOSS 302 WAS A STRIPPED MODEL, AS THE FIRST ONE WAS LOADED WITH THE OPTIONS. BUT THE SECOND ONE WAS PROFESSIONALS BUILT AT THE PIT STOP IN SCOTTSDALE, AZ. IT WAS A BEAST. IT WOULD COMPLETELY ANNIHILATE THE FIRST ONE WITH EASE. HER FIRST BOSS 302 SHE HAD SHE TRADED OFF TO HER FRIENDS 72 4X4 SCOUT. SHE SOLD THE SCOUT 2 MONTHS LATER FOR A 45% PROFIT AND WENT OUT AND BOUGHT THE SECOND BOSS 302. WELL HE BLEW UP THE BOSS AFTER DISCONNECTING THE REV LIMITER. BUT HIS LUKE AFB FRIEND BUILT IT BACK UP PRETTY DANG STRONG.

My everyday drive through the 1980's in the Detroit area was the same 1973 Gran Torino Sport Red with strip kit. If the 5th digit on the VIN is a N like mine it had a 429 4V that we pulled and dropped in a DOVE 1970 460 out of MARK III.
    Full ported DOVE heads
    30. over TRW forged pistons
    Edelbrock dual plane Intake Manifolds
    Mallory dual point distributor
Holley 780 double pumper mechanical secondaries
Hot cam with a C6 Shift kit and 391 Trac-Lok Slicks 11.43 qrt mile at 118 in a 4000 lbs torq monster. 12.20 on street tires.
I did all of the work myself with friends. It got rubber in all the gears at low rpm and you needed Balls to hold it to the floor 5500 rpm in all three gears
I love your show and if a 73 GRAND TORINO SPORT is your dream car you must get a DOVE 68 TO 71 460 AND REVIVE MY DREAM CAR FOR ME. I will be 64 years old soon and hope you get 460 someday for your Torino.

I’ve also found that Rustoleum is the best spray paint unless you get the expensive custom mixed stuff at a paint store if you’re tryin to color match sumthin. The absolute BEST spray paint for coating a truck frame is the Rustoleum “Professional High Performance Enamel” paint. It’s a little better than regular Rustoleum, and it’s a million times better than any of the rubber undercoating in a can. I’ve used it for years now and it’s the only thing that has survived salty winters. The undercoating in a can is the absolute worst junk I’ve tried, it might work in some situations but salty roads make that crap flake off almost immediately.

That is so cool that you got your dream car, I felt your excitement throughout the video. And the fact that Kevin just "happened" to have it hidden away just waiting for you, it was like it was meant to be. That turned out great, as I was watching I wanted to suggest the method I used on my 77 F-250, I used doller store oven cleaner on the spray paint, let it sit a few minutes then hit it with a pressure washer. It worked pretty good and much faster. Then what was left I used the scotch brite pad method like you did. Thankfully I only had to do the cab and front clip, lol as the bed isn't original and not the same color, "yet". Hopefully that tip helps you out on future projects. Keep that smile ear to ear sir and enjoy that new ride. 😁

I've been watching Kevin and Derek for a while, but I just started watching you when you and Kevin worked on that stepside squarebody and I have to say, you're quickly becoming one of my favorite channels. It makes me smile to see you light up about this dream car acquisition!

On a side note I loved seeing JD checking for cars before getting out of the driver's seat on the side of the road, good job in teaching this young man about safety!

Dalton, this video is just like all your other ones.....awesome! You put your heart and soul into these cars doing the work like a true garage mechanic. Nothing fancy or showy but darn good entertainment and education. I loved watching JD getting to drive and can fully appreciate his excitement. I remember my first driving experience at age 13 in my brother's 1962 Pontiac Catalina. We were driving down the road one day and suddenly he pulled over and said "your turn to drive"!

I finally bit and checked out your channel after Kevin has pointed it out umpteen times. My dad had one of those cars in Saddle Bronze, his had a 351, it survived a tornado unscathed! He got rid of it in late 1990, but one quirk I remember of it, it had a manual washer pump, you had to turn on the wipers and push the wiper switch in repeatedly to pump the fluid through. So you might try pushing the wiper switch/button in repeatedly.

Good ol 73 mandates... The vette had a poly front but still retained the chrome bumpers in the back too for that year until it got screwed up completely in 74. I love this body-style. A little partial to the 1972s of the body on frame torinos but dang this looks sharp too.

My first car was a 74 Gran Torino - bought used in 1982 for $865. Had the 351 2-barrel - thought it was fast! Had it for four years. Regarding the bumpers - I believe 73 was the last year of the rear 2 1/2 mph rear bumper and the 5 mph front bumper. 74 saw the addition of the 5 mph rear bumper.
Great video! Brought back memories. Subscribed!!

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Glad you found the car of your dreams Dalton. Myself, I’ve always had an eye for the mid to late 60’s Plymouth barracuda (dream car) as for trucks I’m privy to the early 80’s Dodge D/W series Ram (yes, I’m clearly a mopar fan) and the late 40’s to early 50’s Chevy 3100. Hopefully. I may be able to own one of the above someday.

It was blue and had that reflective laser strip. I had a c.b. radio and my handle was The Blue Streaker. It had the blue interior. I had the C-6 tranny beefed up with the same one police cars had. It was truly a great and beautiful car.

I learned my lesson about rusty fuel tanks long ago. I assume that the tank is worst-case rusty & install the largest fuel filter I can find in the fuel line close to the tank. A inline fuel filter for a diesel truck holds a huge amount before stopping up. Tying a wire to a magnet & putting it in the tank thru the filler neck also helps.

    Very nice find!
Had a 72. Upgraded to an MSD box and gained some mpg as well as reliability. Aftermarket high mount stop light actually looks pretty good. Plus a lot of people are programmed to only stop when the see them. Did the front end with one of those kits. Good bushings but very substandard ball joints.
Heads up on the side windows. Some kind of inner trim rusts up and puts deep scratches when you roll the windows down. Hopefully not yours.
