Jenny saying "idk the names" and then perfectly describing the guitar down to the colour is amazing lmao. That's the sign of someone who listens to their spouse play a lot!
Could have meant that he'll show him the "gibson" now that he guessed the first one as Martin, not confirming he was correct or not. Since he has only 2 full body acoustics that good sounding
Samurai Jenny really showed she's subconsciously noticing the qualities of each guitar, despite not knowing the terms too well. She'd probably do better than 70% of music forum nerds at blind guessing the guitar's attributes. Hopefully I can pay attention in the way she is.
Busted, there's actually a LOT of editing in this, the entire shoot was cut down from about 2 hours. So he likely played it or strummed it a bunch before I asked him but I cut it out.
That gretsch call was impressive. I’ll give Sammy G a break because he really played the genre to which each guitar was suited, making it easier for Sean. But still that Gretsch call.. 👌🏼
It's easier to do with the acoustics than the electrics. Two electric guitars with similar style pickups through the same rig are gonna sound pretty similar, the difference is more in the playability imo. But two acoustics will always sound worlds apart, you can hear the difference in wood and construction clearly
I agree but body type makes a big difference and the scale length. I’ve got a warmoth tele I made with humbuckers and a 335, they sound really different. 335 is warmer, tele is sharper.
@@arthence That's your opinion and that's fine. I've got a solid, semi, and hollow and there is a significant difference between the 3 for me. Certainly descending on sustain in that order. Depends on your setup too. The differences between semi and solid would melt away if you play with a lot of distortion but good luck with feedback on the hollow.
Smelling is cheating. If somebody blind folded me and let me smell my Les Paul I would definitely know what is was. Same with my Fender Jaguar. These two guitars have smells that none of my other guitar have. Might from their cases but none the less.
"Do you want me to play the Gibson and then you tell me which one it is?" 😂 That was funny. But as always very entertaining video, thanks for all the great content!
Yet another good video to play to laugh at people who buy electric guitars with "tone woods". Meanwhile, the reality is that you hear the pickups and maybe the strings (and the switches, haha).
Sitting right next to someone... it's pretty obvious when a hollowbody is strummed. Even the selector switch is a giveaway in the same room. Why not record them all the then try? That would be a lot more difficult.
I mean if you think the reverse flying V is so bad...would you be down to give it to me? Also, maybe that guy was so good at guessing because the headstock was visible from the gaps in the mask around the nose.
Glad to know I got the strat, the tele and the reverse V! Granted I don't know every guitar from Sammy G, but those were pretty easy to guess blindly. Super fun video!
@T.elegramSamurai_Guitarist It's a direct quote from this video. Kind of made the whole blindfold thing a bit of a moot point. For that part, anyway. LOL!
It's brown You can hear its brownness? Starting today, I will hit the like button every time SamuraiJenny is on the channel. She's rad! #MoreSamuraiJenny OMG I WANT YOUR GREEN LES PAUL BECAUSE GREEN!!! Great slide work on the hockey stick MORE SAMURAI JENNY!!!!🎉🎉
A dry signal into a Fender clean amp and I can identify most of the common "types." Any sort of extras via pedals, and it's a total crapshoot. FWIW, I can make my Tele sound like ANYTHING with an HX Stomp or any variety of weird EHX pedals...including an organ or a lawnmower.
My Epiphone Allen Woody Rumblekat lives in its case, so when I pull it out and play it, it has that sweet smell of the case. My son's Epiphone SG case smells same and when I handed him the bass and said "sniff" he said "smells like an Epiphone!" And some of them smell old because of poor treatment by previous owner, or being acoustic so interior wood isn't coated or glue smell is more noticeable... So, yeah, sometimes sniff test is valid.
"do you want me to play the Gibson and then you tell me which one it is?" literally told him the other one was the Gibson and he guessed right with the Martin lmao. Kudos for getting it right that it was the Martin on the first try, though!
SamuraiJenny probably knew it was brown because she probably hears him playing a specific way on guitars like that one and associates it with those guitars. Which is something I think many players do. If you hand someone a Frankenstrat, they're going to be inclined to play a different way than if you hand them a Gibson 125 or whatever that big boxy boy was. With the exception being Phoebe Bridgers and her Warlock, because she's cool and does what she wants.
Makes perfect sense actually you both know too much and overthink it, She is used to Sammy playing and seeing specific guitars in his hands while he is playing, she most likely seen that guitar in his hands while he played it and remembered how it sounds versus his others, her correlation was the color, and she either had a very favorable reaction or very negative one to the playing and it sticks out more because of it in her mind, so to an outsider she was easily able to make the correlation, it could have come down to his play style with that specific guitar she remembered as well. Its funny but GFs I have played for actually remotely guess what I am playing when they hear me from different rooms, its almost a game to them, I have 3 strats and they can guess what one I'm playing rather accurately, they just know the color as well and know its a strat, ironically the only real thing they mess up on is my Richie Kotzen tele and my single cut 594 PRSs, those they cannot distinguish which is weird to me because of how radically different they are.
Personal theory I think the bridge is a good indicator. The strings ring out and sustain differently obviously not so big anyone would notice but it might.
next thing you know is that someone has came out with a pedal that takes brown out of your "tone" and adds green, blue, heck whatever color you want to it
Says a lot about electrics that he mostly tries to guess based on the sound of the switch. Once you get past single vs humbuckers they do all kinda sound the same
Jenny saying "idk the names" and then perfectly describing the guitar down to the colour is amazing lmao. That's the sign of someone who listens to their spouse play a lot!
To be fair, at first she did say is it a Fender company guitar? She defaulted to Gibson.
and in truth, it does sound kinda brown
I think he was just playing brown
I’m so
@@JamieSarai i mean theres a lot of companies that make hollow bodies than gibson, and are better known for making them like gretsch

I need to see Music Is Win do this. I want to see how his "tone wood" theories hold up...

I think Gretsch guitars have such a unique and signature sound that as long as you're familiar with it you could fairly reliably pick it out.
"Hold the sound hole up to my nose" HOW DID HE KNOW IT WAS AN ACOUSTIC?! Duhn Duhn DUUUHHHHHHH 4:58

Great to see the collaboration with Sean Daniel, you guys are great teachers!

Nobody can lol literally all that matters are pickups and the amps speaker, "tone wood" is a big scam and marketing gimmick

That's the most beautiful tele I've ever seen with the colored headstock
awesome, he should have used the microtonal guitar
Here's how this would go with my guitars:

Yes! Sammy, thank you for adding international shipping for your merch 👍
For electric it's much harder. It's easier to hear differences between woods in acoustic guitars generally since the wood actually matters.
