Thank you for your videos. I think this one seems to be the best option for me it does not have everything I'm trying to set up but it comes the closest. I am new to all of this. I work from home and have: a work lap top a personal desktop gaming computer 2 monitors xbox a web cam mic wired mouse & keyboard Trying to find a way to set it all up. I don't want to use both computers at the same time just want to switch back and forth to use share equipment.
@BuyTesmart Hi, Hi I am going to use a Dell latitude and an Acer swift for laptops, do I use a docking station for both or can I just use 2 simple hubs for both? Kindly help.
Thank you for taking the time to communicate with me about my KVM switch that stopped working. I removed my previous comment because I do not want to leave a negative comment for such a great product. Everything is man-made and some things will fail, it was just my time. I am happy to say that TESmart is replacing the failed unit and they are standing behind their product. Since they are replacing my unit, I am going to order a 2nd one to have as a backup just in case anything happens in the future. The workstation is my income and I really need it. I look forward to more great products from this company.
Hallelujah! I got the HDMI + DP one and it works amazing with my setup! I've got a Macbook Pro hooked up to a CalDigit TS3 Plus and an HP PRO DESK 600 G4. DP out from TS3 and USB-C to HDMI from MBP, then HDMI+DP out from the HP. I don't like the buzzer sound it makes but you can turn it off. I've been trying to find a KVM solution for 2 years and I've spent thousands of dollars -- including KVMs that cost 3 times as much and 4x $100 EDID repeaters -- but none of them worked. This one has been working flawlessly and I'm so happy. Thank you!
This device is awesome. I looked at a lot of devices before buying this one. I recommend using a powered USB hub so that you can connect all your peripherals through the USB 2.0 port. This will ensure wider support for keyboard/mouse and things like cameras and mic headsets.
Just did the setup for 2 windows laptops. I had the docking station already so just ordered the Type C to Hdmi + USB + Power adapter you used for MAC. Since my other laptop had HDMI input, I did not need type c to Hdmi cable and instead hdmi to hdmi that came with the package worked for me. Tips in this video were very helpful and I am glad I purchased it. Ordered yesterday via Amazon and I just finished the setup and extremely happy. The switch happens very quickly. Best KVM :)😊
I am getting ready to order this myself and feel like everyone else here: it is the most concise video showing exactly how to set things up. I also have 2 windows laptops however, on one, my USB C port does not support dual monitors so I had to find a USB A to HDMI adapter in order for both monitors to work. I only have 1 HDMI and one USB 3.0 (which is now being used buy said adapter). I'm not sure if I will need yet another adapter for this to work. My other laptop is a dream and has all the connections necessary. I hope I can get it to work like your did yours!
this demo was perfect! Really helped me buy a 4x2 KVM switch from you guys! The ability to have 1 computer per monitor really helps and is way less hassle trying to pull open windows over to the correct side of the screen when in dual monitor mode.
Just wanted to thank you for this video. I have a different brand KVM switch but this video helped me troubleshoot my monitor issues. Powered usb hub was a game changer. Much appreciated!
This was exactly what I needed to set up a work-from-home office with 2 Windows laptops and 2 monitors. I purchased the KVM, monitor arms, and already had the Microsoft mouse and keyboard. Highly recommend getting a powered USB hub for stable use of your devices , and portable hubs for each laptop to make disconnecting/reconnecting cables faster - you can also use them for travel. Love my new KVM!
This is the ultimate convenience for wfh setups in addition to your personal pc setup as well. No more having to plug your peripherals/monitors separately into several hubs linked to your laptop than reverse it to use your personal pc. Just a simple button to switch in between wow.
Thank you for your videos. I think this one seems to be the best option for me it does not have everything I'm trying to set up but it comes the closest. I am new to all of this. You will be able to extend the monitors for the desktop computer and the laptop, but since the xbox only has 1 video connection (HDMI) you will only able to use 1 monitor. For the mic and webcam we recommend an externally powered USB Hub connected to the USB 2.0 on the back of the KVM.
Will this work with a Macbook Pro M3 (base chip)? I know this officially only supports 1 monitor, but wondering if the KVM switch enables two. I know you can run 2 with displaylink. Hoping that is the case here.
A great video. I was able to follow along and set up the system even with my limited tech skills! Also, the support was fantastic, I was intimidated by all the choices of connection cables - they walked me right through the process and the order arrived promptly with all the right cables. One note, after the setup was complete, I did need to adjust my speaker settings to hear video. Not a big deal, but the program does seem to default to the headphone jack.
Good point about the audio setup. Our next dual monitor setup video is being recorded this week and we'll be including a section on how to setup the audio as well. Appreciate the feedback!
could the same switch be used for one computer mac mini, and two separate dual monitor setups, (office and living room). whats the quickest way to do that?
That would be a Reverse KVM, where you have 2 physical desktops with 1 computer. Reverse KVMs are very rare. Most likely you'll have to run 4 video feeds from the MacMini and 2 long USB extenders. You aren't "switching" so you wouldn't need a KVM.
Yes it is possible, using the hotkey command 'Scroll Lock + Scroll Lock + 3' PC1 will Display on the left monitor and PC2 on the right, and 'Scroll Lock + Scroll Lock + 4' PC1 will display on the right monitor and PC2 on the left. This doesn't mean you can use both computers at the same time, you can only use one at a time, you need to "jump" between computers using the hotkey command "ALT + ALT"
@@avicotech-us okay, but is it possible to swap them? If i want them to change in different situations? Practical Example: Macbook connected on the A Input and Windows connected on the B input. Normally i want mac on the left screen and windows on the right one, when i game i want the opposite, so windows on the left screen and mac on the right one. Would it be possible?
You are the only one I seen that shown how to use the dell docking station. I have 2 dell laptops and a wired keyboard that I'm trying to do this with.
Hi Chris, we like to be clear on each step when setting up the KVM, remember the KVM needs 2 video connections to be able to output both monitors so you may need the use of adapters for your setup. Here is a list of our approved adapter: buytesmart.com/pages/adapters You can also fill out this form if you are not sure of what you need: www.buytesmart.com/intake Our support team will help you with your setup.
Excellent video. Well organized and clear. Although I have a different situation therefore my question: I have two Lenovo laptops (one for work + one for personal use). Both laptops have only one single HDMI port. Do I need double docking station as per the video I see for the PC part your are using one docking station. Could you please guide me what to do when we have two PC laptops? Thanks.
Hi Dario. This is a very common question and the answer depends on the capabilities of your laptop. Checkout this video that tries to answer this question: ruclips.net/video/GfBZiGp_s_I/видео.html
It’s a great video. I have a single internet cable at my working station. The kvm doesn’t have CAT5 port. How can i connect to internet for both laptop and desktop? Thank you
Hi Ed, the KVM doesn't support Ethernet connections, if you want to do it through the KVM using an adapter it won't work, its possible to use an adapter for the Ethernet connection directly to the computer without involving the KVM.
This video was extremely helpful in getting me started in the right direction. I found the below device that works as easy as plugging it in to each computer. I have a work HP and a personal HP. You so still need to have a docking station and I cant say that it will work for everyone and the docking station that you have but I didn't even look to see if the one I have will work with it and it did. @@avicotech-us oh ok. I don’t know what the difference is. All I know is it works perfectly for switching between my laptops onto my shared monitors. Isn’t that exactly what this video showed to do? What’s the differences?
Just what i was looking for. I ordered my Box. I followed the instructions yet only allowing me to display first Monitor but not both. I’m using approved adapters for my Dell and MacBook Pro. Submitted a support ticket. Waiting to hear back… 🤷🏽♂️
I see your ticket and that someone is helping you with it. One easy troubleshooting step is to switch to Mode 2, where 1 computer will display on the left and the other on the right. If Mode 2 works, then we know the video outputs are working and it's not a KVM issue. Here's a troubleshooting video that covers these steps: ruclips.net/video/Eppd3qjy3vk/видео.html. I just finished setting it up, and it works great! The only problem is that my new Razer keyboard software no longer recognizes it 😢. The laptops do, and it works great, but not the Razer software. Oh well, I guess. FYI, I have the same exact setup here, except I have 2 PCs, no Macbook. So happy I found this video!
Thanks !! 2 questions : 1 - When monitor 1 display PC1 and monitor 2 display PC2 how do you switch mous-keyboard from one PC to the other ? 2 - When you conference on one PC (usb CAM on PC 1) how can you work on the other PC (usb mouse-keyboard on PC2) ?
1) Alt, Alt. Here's a video on all of the hotkey commands: ruclips.net/video/rY0_BXeTH3c/видео.html 2) You would have to use the laptop's onboard keyboard for PC 2.

Hey Andrew, the size of the desk depends on your needs, you can have a printer, some miners, two desktops or two laptops, etc. The regular size of ours is 74' x24' in. for a Desktop PC, Laptop, Mic, Speakers, Keyboard and mouse and we still have some extra space. And the monitor stand can be adjust as well depending on the brand, we have Amazon Basics ones on this video.
What is the USB-C cable you plugged into the Lenovo connected to (see timestamp 5:33 of your video)? I have a Dell Lattitude 5480 and want to use the Dell docking station you suggest. I need to power my Dell, but wasn't sure if this docking station includes the USB-C cable you are using in the video.
Will the GREATHTEK HDMI KVM Switch Dual Monitor support this set up? Secondly I don’t understand why you need a docking station for the Dell. Can you just connect everything to the kvm? From the what I can tell the yoga c940 has 2xusb-c. If you could clarify thanks
Hi Martin, each KVM has different functionalities depending on your needs, our KVMs have the capabilities to display both computer on each screen simultaneously which is a very rare functionality on the KVM environment. Also, the KVM needs two video connections from each computer to be able to output both monitors and an USB connections (also on each computer) to share the same set of keyboard and mouse, not using the docking station will make the Laptop the use of adapters for the video connections and the USB, is not almost necessary the use of a docking station but it simplifies the connections.
Hi! Would this configuration be ok to use simultaneously a windows (intel) pc and a mac M1 pro or M1 max, connecting 4 monitors? I would like to use 2 monitors for the mac and 2 monitors for the windows pc. I do video editing and music production. I still ise cubase on my old windows and I do not wish to change this configuration. Thanks!
If you have 4 external monitors, you would need 2 dual monitor KVMs and then each computer is going to need to make 4 video connections. It's possible but kind of a 'hack' to use 2 KVMs in the same setup. It's a little pricey but have you considered getting 2 49" super ultrawides? (These KVM's can't do 5120x1440.)
@@avicotech-us hi thanks for the reply ! I am glad to know it is possible to do. What I'd need it is to have only one keyboard and mouse to use for both aystems and able to move between the monitors. I wouldn't need to replicate the videos from the mac to all the monitors, even though it would be cool, but essentialy I'd like to have 2 monitors for each system ( mac and windows pc) but do not have to switch mouse/ keyboard. I haven't looked at the wide monitors as I am a petite person and I have mounted vesa with stands, to adjust them at the right height . I don't know if this is possible on ultrawide monitors. They should be adjustable ! Thanks for the help! 🤩

does this KVM also provides power to laptops? to used one USB-C cable to get video as well as power + keyb/mouse on same cable? or do i still need 3 cables + adapter to each laptop?
Not from the KVM itself but with the use of an Adapter it can be possible, specifically the USB-C to HDMI+PD, here is a link of our approved adapters: buytesmart.com/pages/adapters

This is literally the best video I could have possibly found for what I am looking for! We have a new client for our medical billing service that only works on MAC and we work on PC. This is so helpful. I do have two questions though. Desk space can be an issue when you start having all of these devices. 1) can this same setup work if you are using a desktop PC (not a laptop)? 2) (not as crucial of a question) Can the MAC be shut and off to the side while still projecting to the monitors? I know when we were working from home I have a MAC at home and would remote into the office and I could have my MAC shut to save desk space and just work off my monitors and it would still have full functionality. Super excited to share this solution with my manager! Thanks so much!
1) Yes. We have other setup videos demonstrating that: ruclips.net/video/EsfzitB9AwA/видео.html. 2) Depends on the Mac but usually. Windows absolutely has no problem but Macs can take some configuring and/or software to achieve this (and we are still not sure about the M1 having this capability). It might take some trial and error to figure out.
nice video, meanwhile have this device, did have to connect with one time HDMI and one time DVI per pc. But works perfectly, good switchover, I work with the keyboard, is super easy. Switching keyboard and mouse are super fast.
3 monitor connected to a personal Gaming PC, and a windows work laptop is what I am after. Same (wired) mouse and keyboard over both devices as well... Not asking much haha! Main monitor is a DP, and the two smaller monitors that I have are dp/hdmi input if that helps
Hey, the setup should be simple but to make sure we suggest the right KVM and adapters just fill-up this form: www.buytesmart.com/intake A member of our team will help you with everything you need and how to set it up.
Did the HDMI cables that connect from Display 1 and Display directly to the monitor come with the KVM switch or are those cables sold separately (I should either buy them or have them already)?
Using the "mode 2" of the KVM both computers will be displayed (one on each monitor). You can control one computer at a time, you can switch between which computer you want to control with the quick hotkey (double tap alt key). You can not control both computers simultaneously. Hope that answers you question. You can email us at contact@avicotech.com for more explanation and we can provide a personalized setup recommendation for you computers and monitors. :)
why we need to connect 2 hdmi input ? in my pc i had only one output , So is that posible to connect two pc with this kvm ( every pc had 1 output) and get 2 final 4k monitors?
Hey AmrT Cpp, the KVM need 2 video connections to be able to extend the monitors for each computer, if there is only 1 HDMI connection you will only have 1 monitor displaying. If the computers only have one video output then the use of adapters will be required depending on the ports availabilities.
Great video. question: i have a Alienware M17 laptop and dual AW3418DW monitors. how do I make my laptop see the dual monitors - using the DP ports? or do I need a docking station?? like WD22TB4?? my laptop does not have mini DP port - only HDMI
The KVM needs two video connections from each computer to be able to output both monitors, the use of a docking station is not always necessary on most of the cases unless you want to avoid the use of adapters or have more space. The use of adapter won't affect any of the KVM's capabilities so you should be fine.
Hi, I have 2 laptops (one work: dell, one personal: surface pro 7) I have one big LG monitor in the middle. I also bought one portable monitor called Espresso. I now need to switch between 2 laptops to be able to display on 2 monitors quickly. I also got a surface dock 2. Any suggestions? Thanks Ivan from Australia
Not sure if the Espresso monitor will work for the Dual Monitor setup because of the port limitations, the video conversion should be from HDMI to USB-C, unfortunately there are no adapters on the market with this feature. We can find a workaround in this case, you can open a ticket with us through our website support so we can help you out.
Thanks. The KVM has 1 standard USB2.0 port. Those devices won't work in the dedicated mouse/keyboard ports. So to expand more USB ports, we used a powered USB hub in this demo video.
My tesmart kvm has been working but today just shows “-“ (double dash) in the selection display and I can’t get it to change. I tried unplugging/restarting kvm and computers (unplugging all cables) and it just stays on double dash. How can I fix/reset it?
Hi Peter, the HKS0802A1U Model that has a front panel which shows the "double dash" you probably pressed 'Close' by accident, this will turn off the display and monitors. Just press it once more and everything should be back to normal.
How does the audio work? Does it switch with the monitors as well or would you be getting sound from both? Ie can I control music with my personal computer while active on my work computer? Or would I need to connect my DAC to the personal laptop directly?
The sound will be received and transmitted from whichever device is selected. It cannot mix the audio from one input to the other. For your use case, you'll probably need a DAC as you mentioned.
Exactly what I was looking for. I did have 1 question. In the video, you mention an alternative to the Dell Dock was linked below. I didn't see it. Could you provide that alternative?
It proved unreliable over the long run so we stuck with our Dell Dock recommendation. The D3100 is pretty inexpensive if you're ok with getting a used unit off of Ebay.
Hmm, I see you connected two monitors to one laptop but didn't show the dual monitor setup as monitor 1 and monitor 2. I just saw two duplicate monitors instead of two separate monitors as a dual setup.
What? At 7:50 when everything is connected and turned on, the laptops are each displayed to both monitors. You can see how the mouse drags across each monitor, they're not mirrored, they're working independently as Monitor 1 and 2.
Yes, that's a common configuration. The connections will go from the dock to the KVM and the dock will be connected to the laptop with the normal Type C connection, this makes a super easy and clean setup for the laptop.
On the Lenovo side....you have a USB going from the dock to the laptop. Would this be necessary if I am using USB-C connection from Thinkpad Dock to utilize LAN and Power from the dock? You have external power source going to USB-C on the laptop and a USB going from dock to the laptop....wouldn't that be taken care of just by using the USB-C connector from the dock to the laptop? I'm definitely buying the switch, just want to make sure I am not overthinking this. I have two Lenovo's to hook up at my home office. One for work and one personal. Appreciate the video and info!
Hey Toby, you can definitely use the USB-C connection to deliver power and display at the same time IF the docking station have this capabilities. If you want to make sure you have everything ready for your set up just fill-up this form: www.buytesmart.com/intake, we will help you out.
this is very informative. my situation is a bit different. i only have one laptop (legion 5) and 2 external monitors. do i even need a KVM switch or a docking station? my laptop has HDMI and USB-C ports in it. i would like to use it with the lid closed and have one of the monitors be the main screen and the other as extended display. could i just hook the laptop directly to monitors? monitors have HDMI and DisplayPort ports in them. thanks for your help!
No need for a KVM because it is a “switch”. It is only needed when you have multiple computers or video devices (like gaming consoles, streaming boxes, etc). Most likely you can run an HDMI to one monitor and use a USB-C to HDMI cable for the other monitor. Then plug-in the power to the laptop so it doesn’t shut down when you close the lid. If it does shut down even when plugged in, go into the power settings and make some adjustments. Hope this helps!
I've got a triple monitor setup- possible to split two monitors into a docking station and then into the KVM? Want to be able to either all monitors back and forth or 2 montiors on one machine and one on the other.
Yea, you can use a dual monitor KVM to control 2 monitors and then have a 3rd monitor that is dedicated to one machine. This is pretty common actually. The biggest thing to keep in mind is that the KVM will need 2 video connections from each computer so the computer that you have with the dedicated monitor will need 3 in total. A dock with 3 outputs would achieve this.
You can connect ethernet connection to the KVM with a USB to Ethernet; amzn.to/41grUOH This would connect to the USB 2.0 port of the KVM so whcihever computer is selected will receive ethernet connection. The other would disconnect, if you want to have steady ethernet connection to both computers then running the connections from the routers to the computers is the best option.
I love this product. Works great with my work 2021 Mac Book Pro but I'd like to switch in my personal 2015 MacBook Air. The MacBook Air doesn't have a USB -C just a thunderbolt port. Any suggestions on the correct adapter to make my 2015 MacBook Air work with my this KVM? Thanks in advance for your help.
That era of MBAir is really difficult. Your best bet is to go with something like a Dell D3100 dock: amzn.to/3aJRK38. Just make sure to install the DisplayLink drivers. We go through that process in this video, albeit for a newer model MBPro but the process in the same: ruclips.net/video/EsfzitB9AwA/видео.html.
Yes it is safe to setup desktops and laptops with this KVM. Each computer needs to send 2 video connections for both monitors to receive video from the computers so you may need adapters, you can email us or reply back here with the make and model of your computers and we can get a step by step guide on how to connect your computers to the KVM.
Perfect! Here is the recommended setup. It's tricky but I have first monitor with build-in KVM (Gigabyte M28u) and 2nd just a regular with HDMI without anything fancy. Im thinking if I can achieve that kinda setup without external KVM and only docking station (Laptop and PC with 2 monitor to work with both - depends on, which device Im using, with one keyboard and mouse)? Im thinking how to connect second monitor. Im currently using PC and Laptop with that Gigabyte with KVM built-in and I would like to add that 2nd monitor.
Just buy our KVM all that will be solved! LOL Assuming you want a 2 monitor 2 computer setup, you might be able to use the monitors built in KVM for two computers like its intended for and then connect the 2nd monitor connected to each computer with separate video connections. You'll just have to change the source on the 2nd monitor when switching between computers.
Great video, thanks. I'm affraid I don't have another USB-C port left on each of my laptops as they are needed for charging. Therefore I want to use an USB-A to HDMI adapter to get my second video signal from each laptop. The other video signal is HDMI directly to the KVM switch. Does that make sense?
Hi! Couple of questions: 1) If I have 3 monitors for one PC, but only want to use 2 of them for the second PC, can I use this KVM to switch between the two shared monitors, without the third one screwing things up? 2) Will this have any issues if only one of the HDMIs is used?
First step is to determine if you have 1 external monitor or 2. 1 monitor is called "single monitor KVM" and 2 monitors is called "dual monitor KVM". Then decide how many computers you need to connect, which is usually 2. We call these "ports". So if you have 2 computers and 2 external monitors, you need a 2-port dual monitor KVM. Open up a ticket and describe what you're trying to do and someone from our team will help you out.
You can also create a KVM switch for your existing monitor. Every monitor from the past 10 years has a V switch and an USB hub. You can get a USB switch connected between your two pc's and monitor (as USB HUB to KM). I got mine from Aliexpress for 5 dollars. You only have to press two buttons for switching KVM :P
Great DIY, but this means limited functionalities, limited peripherals support, workspace clutter, potential signal degradation, some devices may not work seamlessly, and manual switching... The KVM is plug and play plus it's 'Mode 2' functionality allows each computer to display on 1 monitor simultaneously which increase productivity and space efficiency, you don't see that type of functionalities on the market commonly. Not sure an Aliexpress USB switch can do that. :P
I have a couple of older thunderbolt displays...can this be done with those monitors using a MacBook Pro and work laptop Thinkpad x13 gen 2? If not, can the same thing be accomplished with the newer apple studio displays?
Hey, it might be possible since a few HDMI to USB Adapters have been release on the market but we are not a 100% this new adapters are fully compatible with a KVM environment, is you want to give it a try just fill up this form: www.buytesmart.com/intake We will help you with everything you will need.
Smash the KVM, the beep will stop...JK! Hotkey command: Scroll Lock+Scroll Lock+ F11 Make sure you have the keyboard connected to the dedicated keyboard/mouse port on the KVM. Also the hotkey trigger can be changed to the Right Ctrl, double tab Right CTRL if you hear the annoying beep then that's the current hotkey trigger. You can change the hotkey trigger using command: Right CTRL+Right CTRL+F1 to make Scroll Lock.
very awesome video! i have one question. When you select macbook pro in your kvm (teismart), does dual monitors give 4k resolution? In homepage, spec of this kvm indicates that it is possible for 4k resolution. As i know, macbook is possible for 4k resolution of two monitors. Thank you
Macs are wild animals and kind of do what they want for external monitors. This is pretty well-documented on forums. The KVM does support dual 4K60 it's just a matter of forcing the Mac to use that resolution. You might have to use software to lock it in. Personally, we typically use whatever resolute the Mac suggests because it usually looks good.
I’ve got a desktop setup with dual monitors and wants to add my laptop. Which system do I need? Also I use external speakers which are currently connected to the audio out on my desktop sound card. Does this also switch speakers along with monitors and keyboard/mouse?

For the teleconferencing setup, instead of using the smaller Logitech external webcam, can I use a mirrorless/DSLR as a webcam (through Elgato Camlink)? Is there enough voltage to support this?
We haven’t tested with a Camlink. If you have issues, just use a powered USB hub that we linked in the description. (DSLR cams work as typical HDMI inputs, just haven’t tried a Camlink.). We’ll pick one up and put it in the next set of videos.
@@avicotech-us As long as I use a *powered* USB hub, the hub should work exactly the same as if it had plugged in straight to a laptop right? I'm just concerned all that bundle of wired connections to the KVM switch will mess up things somehow.

@@akiwifer @Hazriq Sorry didn't realize there was a question in the message. Yes, with a powered USB hub plugged into the KVM's USB2.0 port, it will be the same as plugging the powered USB hub directly into the computer.
Hi, this looks very close to what I need. In my case, I want to connect a mac laptop and a windows desktop to dual monitors. What I'm not sure about are the kbd/mouse connections. In the video only one dongle is used to connect both the kbd/mouse to the kvm? And then one usb cable goes to each computer carrying both kbd/mouse signals? Eg, right now I have a kbd and a mouse both connected to the desktop via usb cables (no dongles), Ie, 2 usb connections are being used on the desktop. Presumably I would connect the kbd/mouse to the kvm, using the provided ports. But then only one usb cable per machine is provided, so I would connect the one usb cable to my desktop (and the other to the laptop) and that would carry both mouse and kbd signals? Thx.
Yes. The KVM acts as a USB hub. So you plug in your keyboard and mouse into the KVM (either with a unified dongle or 2 separate connections) but then there's only a single USB connection going to each computer. You might want to check out this new setup video: ruclips.net/video/EsfzitB9AwA/видео.html

Can I swap in the sources between the monitors? For example: I'm working on device 1 on the main monitor and see device 2 on the extra display then I want to work on device 2 on the main monitor and see device 1 on the extra monitor. It's a little silly with only 2 devices but the idea is to scale this out to many PCs/consoles/TVs and have 1 extra monitor for each device and still keep 1 main monitor.
Great video! I've got 3 computers and 3 monitors. I need computer 1 to connect to monitors 1, 2, and 3. Computer 2 needs to connect to monitor 2, and computer 3 needs to connect to monitor 3. Could you please explain how to do that? The monitors have 2 HDMI and 1 display port each; thank you very much for the support.
Please fill-up this form www.buytesmart.com/intake so we can get more details about the setup, after a little research we'll reply back with a list of what you need and hot to set it up.
Are you only able to activate the split desktop mode (each computer on 1 monitor) via remote or the scroll lock hot keys? When I turned the KVM on for the first time, it was set this way but now I can't get it back. I have tried switching using the yellow button on the front of the KVM but it only switches which computer shows on both monitors. The scroll lock doesn't work on the MX3.
Correct, you need the KB or remote to switch back and forth between Mode 1 and Mode 2. If you have an MX Keys by Logitech checkout this video on how to use it with the KVM: ruclips.net/video/hRN1akiVNHo/видео.html. Also, you can switch the hotkey trigger for these models. Here's a video for that: ruclips.net/video/rY0_BXeTH3c/видео.html
So, I am thinking about buying one. However, I live in Denmark, which means that the shipping will be an additional $100, which is kind of... let's say sad 🤨. But let's say I will buy a product from TESmart. I guess I will be needing some help. My setup: PC1: Laptop PC - ThinkPad 540P with mini-DP. It also have multiple USB3.0 ports PC2: Desktop PC with a graphic card that have DP and HDMI. 2x 27" AOC monitors that holds 1x DP and 1x HDMI each Which product (KVM) is recommended if I want to switch between those PCs? And for the PC1 laptop: Should I buy an additional docking station or adapter to make the mini-DP work? Thanks in advance!
Hi aloevgaard, buying from the manufacturer (TESmart) will be more convenience for you. The recommended KVM for your setup will be the HDK0402A1U, you will need 2 adapters for the ThinkPad, a miniDP to DP Adapter and an USB 3.0 to HDMI Adapter, if you want to avoid the use of adapters the docking station for the setup would a Dell D6000. Here is a link where you can find the adapters and docking station mentioned above: buytesmart.com/pages/adapters
Hi Yasir, yes you can use adapters for video conversion, here is a list of our approved adapters: buytesmart.com/pages/adapters If you are not sure which adapters you will need, contact us through our website support and we can help you out. :D
The support said they cannot give the link for the adapter. I am not clear if I need USB C to HDMI with power and usb a? The one you used for Mac, would work for me if i buy 2?
Thank you for sharing such an amazing solution for 2 monitors - 2 devices connection. I just have a question, do I need to keed the laptops open? I would like to close them and keep them under my desk. Thanks
Do you need a docking station? If you have a Lenovo & Mac, for example, would you be able to just plug each laptop directly into the KVM? If you do need to have, why?
The KVM needs two video connections from each computer to be able to output both monitors, the reason why we use the docking station is because some Mac versions can only display one external monitor with a 'DisplayLink' docking station you will be able to use multiple external displays.
Great video! One question tho, would it work if both laptops are in clamshell mode? I'd like to hide away the laptops and just look at the 2 screens and still be able to switch without opening the lid on either one. Thanks!
Yes that will work, but you need to make sure the laptops are set as "When Lid Closed: Do Nothing", also the laptops might go to sleep after a couple hours and the only way to wake them up is lifting the lid so we recommend you to set a schedule if you use them on a daily basis, for example on the 'Energy Saver' setting you can set the laptops to go to sleep at 10 PM and wake up at 9 AM or follow a work schedule.
@avicotech-us If we use this in split manner, i.e. 1 laptop on one monitor and 2nd laptop on 2nd monitor, how does the camera / headset behave? Which computer's zoom call will it connect to?
Good question. When in the "split view mode" both computers are viewable on each monitor but only one computer is selected as the active computer. The selected computer has access to the keyboard/mouse, camera, headsets, all the peripherals connected to the KVM. This RUclips Short demonstrates this mode; ruclips.net/user/shorts6dAu141tE6A?si=gYumROTYIphOIBrF
Yes, this KVM model (DisplayPort + HDMI) are more comfortable to setup with a desktop and laptop. You may need the us of adapters since the KVM need 2 video connections to be able to extend the monitors, here is a link to our approved adapters: buytesmart.com/pages/adapters If you are not so sure which adapters you will need you can open a ticket with our website support.
Yeah it should work fine as long as the monitors are within HDMI 2.0 parameters. You can mix different display resolutions, no problem. Let me know the make and model of your monitors and I can confirm they'll work fine.

hey justin.. so what would i need to run 4 monitors with 2 laptops?
Thank you for your videos. I think this one seems to be the best option for me it does not have everything I'm trying to set up but it comes the closest. I am new to all of this. I work from home and have:
a work lap top
a personal desktop gaming computer
2 monitors
xbox
a web cam
mic
wired mouse & keyboard
Trying to find a way to set it all up.
The webpage is all white whenever I go on your website...?
This was posted 2 years ago and it was still the best video I saw for setting up what I needed. Clear, concise and easily followed. Thanks!
I agree. It is still great! :D
This is exactly what I was looking for. With the perfect step by step setup and explanation. Thank you! Just ordered the kvm.
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you!
Thanks for the kind words. Glad to hear that it's working for you.
We are glad you are happy with it! 😁
@@melaniefisk6282 hopefully it will work 😀
this demo was perfect! Really helped me buy a 4x2 KVM switch from you guys! The ability to have 1 computer per monitor really helps and is way less hassle trying to pull open windows over to the correct side of the screen when in dual monitor mode.
Thanks for the user review. Glad to hear the switch is solving some problems for you.
Just wanted to thank you for this video. I have a different brand KVM switch but this video helped me troubleshoot my monitor issues. Powered usb hub was a game changer. Much appreciated!
You're welcome!
I'm officially checking it out right now ... this is the best purchase I have ever made !! ... it is a very good product and accommodates a lot.
I realize I am kinda randomly asking but does anyone know a good site to stream new tv shows online?

@Philip Brady You are welcome =)
This was exactly what I needed to set up a work-from-home office with 2 Windows laptops and 2 monitors. I purchased the KVM, monitor arms, and already had the Microsoft mouse and keyboard. Highly recommend getting a powered USB hub for stable use of your devices , and portable hubs for each laptop to make disconnecting/reconnecting cables faster - you can also use them for travel. Love my new KVM!
Thanks for the user review Jennifer. These always help encourage the team!

This is the ultimate convenience for wfh setups in addition to your personal pc setup as well. No more having to plug your peripherals/monitors separately into several hubs linked to your laptop than reverse it to use your personal pc. Just a simple button to switch in between wow.

This was the exact setup I was looking to do. Awesome video.
Glad we could help. It's been awhile since you posted this. Everything get setup ok?
Will this work with a Macbook Pro M3 (base chip)? I know this officially only supports 1 monitor, but wondering if the KVM switch enables two. I know you can run 2 with displaylink. Hoping that is the case here.
DisplayLink is the only solution. The KVM doesn't have display link so it cant make the second video feed.

Great instructions. This vid and channel is my GO-TO!
Great to hear!
Is it possible to swap the left monitor and the right monitor with a hotkey?

Can these be left on all the time or do they need to be turned off when not in use?
They don't run hot so they can be left ON all the time.
Best $16 ever.
USB 3.0 Switch Selector,iDsonix USB Switcher 1 in 2 Out(2 in 1 Out) Bi-Directional,USB Switch 2 Computers Share 1 Device for Printer,Scanner,Keyboard, USB Sharing Switch with 2pcs A to A 3.3ft Cables
That's a USB switch, not a KVM. There is a massive technology (and price) difference and they have completely different use cases.
What size of a desk do you think you need for a set up like this?
Also, do the monitors adjust in height if I do not want them that high up?
Yea, the USB-C was the power supply for the laptop.

Yes, it will also work with the desktop. The KVM supports EDID emulations that prevents the the icon and windows to rearrange.

Did the HDMI cables that connect from Display 1 and Display directly to the monitor come with the KVM switch or are those cables sold separately (I should either buy them or have them already)?
Hi, the HDMI Cables for the Displays are not included, does should be already provided for the monitor the first time you buy it.

I want to make sure I understand. You can use both laptops at the same time and both will appear on the monitors?
Any information on how a Bluetooth device would participate in this sharing scenario?
The KVM doesn't support Bluetooth devices unless they are wired connected or connected via an USB dongle.
Great video. How come you cant plug in the camera and headset straight into the kvm?
Thank you for this clear video and kudos to your video editor!
Appreciate the positive feedback. He's come a long way. Hahaha :P
@@avicotech-us ah okay, I see it now, thank you!
Hello, will this system also work with a type C docking station for laptop and then a desktop sharing the same two monitors?

@@avicotech-us ok great! thank you so much for taking the time to reply
Can you hardwire ethernet with this setup? Or does ethernet need to run to both laptops separately from the router?
You can connect ethernet connection to the KVM with a USB to Ethernet; amzn.to/41grUOH
This would connect to the USB 2.0 port of the KVM so whcihever computer is selected will receive ethernet connection.
Your best bet is to go with something like a Dell D3100 dock:
amzn.to/3aJRK38. Just make sure to install the DisplayLink drivers. We go through that process in this video, albeit for a newer model MBPro but the process in the same:
ruclips.net/video/EsfzitB9AwA/видео.html.
Is it safe to assume i can do a desktop and laptop set up with this KVM switch?
Yes it is safe to setup desktops and laptops with this KVM. Each computer needs to send 2 video connections for both monitors to receive video from the computers so you may need adapters, you can email us or reply back here with the make and model of your computers and we can get a step by step guide on how to connect your computers to the KVM.

Dude! This is EXACTLY what I'm looking for. Thanks for the video.
Glad we could help!
LOL
Assuming you want a 2 monitor 2 computer setup, you might be able to use the monitors built in KVM for two computers like its intended for and then connect the 2nd monitor connected to each computer with separate video connections.
You would have to get a DisplayLink adapter and they are much more costly. Have you thought about trying a USB-C adapter with PD3.0 (power delivery)?
Hi! Couple of questions:
1) If I have 3 monitors for one PC, but only want to use 2 of them for the second PC, can I use this KVM to switch between the two shared monitors, without the third one screwing things up?
2) Will this have any issues if only one of the HDMIs is used?
Hi Zach, its possible but we need more details about the setup. You can open a ticket with our website support and we will help you right away.
I need help! I have to purchase a KVM switch online but I haven’t the slightest clue which one to get!!
Hey, it might be possible since a few HDMI to USB Adapters have been release on the market but we are not a 100% this new adapters are fully compatible with a KVM environment, is you want to give it a try just fill up this form: www.buytesmart.com/intake
We will help you with everything you will need.
I cant get the hot cut keys to work! Also there is a super annoying bleep when it switches, how did you turn that off?
Smash the KVM, the beep will stop...JK! Hotkey command: Scroll Lock+Scroll Lock+ F11
Make sure you have the keyboard connected to the dedicated keyboard/mouse port on the KVM. Also the hotkey trigger can be changed to the Right Ctrl, double tab Right CTRL if you hear the annoying beep then that's the current hotkey trigger. You can change the hotkey trigger using command: Right CTRL+Right CTRL+F1 to make Scroll Lock.
Bought this and feels good. However occassionally have issues waking up devices after leaving them idle for quite some time - overnight for example.
Hi. Not sure what could be causing that. Definitely play around with your computer's power saving setting.
very awesome video! i have one question.
Assumption that a mac mini and a laptop will work in this set up. Thanks!
Yes it will
Great step-by-step video! Bravo!
Glad it was helpful!
I’ve got a desktop setup with dual monitors and wants to add my laptop. Which system do I need? Also I use external speakers which are currently connected to the audio out on my desktop sound card. Does this also switch speakers along with monitors and keyboard/mouse?
Hi Steve. I recognize your name so pretty sure you opened up a ticket. For complete setup recommendations, we need to know the make/model of everything that is going to get plugged into the KVM. Use our ticketing system (orange Support button) on buytesmart.com
Hazriq This is a great question! I wanted to know the same. I have a lot going on with my set up as well and want to make sure I’m getting the right set up before purchasing
Nice device. Question: Say I have 2 PCs/devices and 2 monitors. 1 monitor is the main central/working monitor and extra monitor is off to the side but visible.
Yes. We demo that feature in this video as well as several other videos on our channel. We all it Split Desktop mode (or Mode 2).
My setup:
PC1: Laptop PC - ThinkPad 540P with mini-DP. It also have multiple USB3.0 ports
PC2: Desktop PC with a graphic card that have DP and HDMI.
2x 27" AOC monitors that holds 1x DP and 1x HDMI each
Which product (KVM) is recommended if I want to switch between those PCs?
Can we use adapter in both laptops instead of docking station?

The support said they cannot give the link for the adapter. I am not clear if I need USB C to HDMI with power and usb a? The one you used for Mac, would work for me if i buy 2?
Thank you for sharing such an amazing solution for 2 monitors - 2 devices connection. I just have a question, do I need to keed the laptops open? I would like to close them and keep them under my desk. Thanks
You can close them. Just make sure that you have the laptops' settings enabled to work while closed. Usually this is the default setting.
@avicotech-us
If we use this in split manner, i.e.
