    I use an app called Amphetamine to prevent my M1 MacBook Pro from going to sleep. Also allows for two monitors to be used with the laptop closed . It’s free

    Found a solution for macOS users who are frustrated like I was when the monitor disconnects, it stops playing audio and is difficult to wake back up. I tried the Amphetamine app and it didn't even work for me. Here's what did:
    Open up the Terminal Mac app and enter this:
    sudo pmset -a disablesleep 1
    Obviously to revert, change the 1 to 0. It will prompt you for your password, just enter it and it immediately solves the problem. It was driving me crazy so I'm happy this works.
    This is working for me on the latest macOS Sonoma beta so hopefully it will work for you!

    • @avicotech-us

      Using apps can help avoiding the monitors to disconnect, you can also set a schedule to wake up the Mac on certain time through the power settings.

    if your m1 Mac goes to sleep while its closed it can be woken without opening the lid if you have a bluetooth connected mouse/keyboard. I use Logitech multi-device keyboard and mouse for a setup similar to this.

    • @avicotech-us

      That makes sense since the BT connection is straight from the peripheral to the MBPro. It doesn't rely on the USB ports to remain awake while the MBPro is sleeping. Thanks for the tip.

    does this work with an M1Max without display link? I see one comment response that implies that it does - but my personal experience is no. Neither monitor displays, the macbook doesn't recognize any external displays - and troubleshooting has yielded no results.
    Is there some other magic I need to do, other than following the instructions and plugging in HDMI, DP, and USB cables?
    also, I'd suggest you mention that some M1 macs don't need the display link (if this is in-fact the case)

      You could use this USB-C to DP adapter: amzn.to/3mCtDcv And this USB-C to USB Type B adapter: amzn.to/3d6exWN. We are also looking for combined alternatives to make fewer connections overall but the need is pretty specific so a solution is not eminent.

      Hey, you can use the Mode 2 that will allow you to have both computers displaying simultaneously on each monitor, however this doesn't mean you can use them at the same time or drag files from one computer to another, you can only use one at a time and using a hotkey command will allow you to "jump" between computer 1 and computer 2.

    I'm looking to use multiple macbooks to a single ultrawide that has picture-by-picture capabilities. I'd like to set this up in a way where I can do both picture-by-picture and have both macbooks active, and have the ultrawide also be a single monitor if I wanted to use only one macbook. Is this something that's possible with this setup? Or any recommendations for setting this up?

      The only way you're going to get PBP on monitor is if you have a monitor with that feature. The KVM can't split a single monitor and use half for 1 computer and half for another computer. You can do that with Mode 2 in this KVM but it's a dual monitor setup, not a single monitor setup.

      We have many, many gaming customers and rarely get complaints. The KVM has near zero latency as long as you use a regular mouse/keyboard. Video wise, these KVM's are some of the best looking chips on the market.

  • @SF11sensationTv

    I've seen many reviews saying that gaming mice and keyboards don't work on the dedicated mouse and keyboard slots because the edid emulation doesn't allow for other the features of those devices. Is this true and if so, is there anyway around that with this KVM? Can we disable edid?

    • @avicotech-us
      @avicotech-us  2 года назад

      The workaround is to use the USB2.0 port. It's a true passthrough so there's no emulation. You can use a powered USB hub to expand the number of USB ports so you can plug your mouse & keyboard. Most gaming devices work for these models but where it gets tripped up is using mouse/keyboard software. That can mess up the emulation programming. Am I understanding it right that the difference between the HKS0402A1U, the HDK0402A1U and the HKS0802A1U is that the first is 2 computer input/HDMI only, second is 2 computer input, HDMI and DP, finally the third is 4 computer input HDMI only? I'm a bit confused what the "cascading" refers to here? I think DP allows chaining of displays, but HDMI doesn't?
    PS: have you tried launching some pseudo-job with Caffeine or Amphetamine (the former command line only, the latter with a GUI)? It prevents Mac sleep from interrupting long running jobs, which I need to do for analysis and code jobs all the time. Even some task that runs in the background with a sleep() - so it doesn't gobble up CPU - should do the trick.
    PPS: Your website shows the HDK0402A1U as both in-stock *and* out-of-stock. Until you want to buy it, click on it - and then find out that yep, it's out of stock like everything else on the planet. 😭

      1) The HKS0802 is a 4 computer 2 monitor model and has all HDMI inputs and all HDMI outputs. The HKS0402 is the same but with 2 computers and 2 monitors. The HDK0402 is 2 computers and 2 monitors but each computer connects via 1 HDMI and 1 DP (so it's good for most desktop GPU's and docking stations).
      2) We tried Amphetamine in our testing but hadn't heard of Caffeine. We'll give that a shot. Thank you!

We drilled a hole in the back of the speakers to mount them to the pins. The monitors are attached with gas spring arms that also fit on the base. We didn't use the pole that came with the gas spring arms, just the arms. Gas spring arms are important because you can get perfect alignment for dual monitors.

      Data speeds will always bottleneck to the slowest connection. Anything plugged into the KVM will slow down to USB2.0 speeds. If you want faster speeds, bypass the KVM and plug your device directly into the docking station or computer.

    off on a tangent, but what is the stand you are using?

      It's a frankenstand... We took a base from 1 brand and then a pole with shoulders and arms from another. I wish I could link it for you but we have a mix and match of so many, I don't know exactly which we used. They aren't all inter-compatible unfortunately.

    Hi, has the M1 charged when plugged into the D3100 Dock ?

      Yes, the MacBook was charged but it doesn't need to be completely charged to work with the Dock, if you have issues with it try updating the drivers.

    I have a Mac book pro and a Dell laptop with two monitors. To the Dell, I have 1 HDMI and USB and 1 DP to HDMI adapter connected to the Dell WD19S hub (PC2). To the MAC, (PC1) I have a USB and HDMI to USB-C adapter with an additional USB-C to HDMI adapter and It does not work. the video at best flickers continuously. the model of KVM is HKS0402A1U. I followed the wiring diagram to a tee and still the video flickers on one of the monitors. question did I buy the wrong KVM? I am about to return it. this thing cost too much money to keep if its no good to me. Any help would be nice.😡😡😡🤬

    • @avicotech-us
      @avicotech-us  Год назад

      Hi Phil. Hopefully you reached out to our tech support. It's difficult for us to troubleshoot over YT messages. The flickering isn't usually because of the wrong KVM. You should try to reduce the resolution and/or refresh rate to make sure that it's not a bandwidth issue with the cable. We recommend turning the KVM off and unplugging it after you get everything setup. We talk about it here in this troubleshooting video: ruclips.net/video/Eppd3qjy3vk/видео.html Also in that video, we go over how to swap the ports so you can help diagnose what is actually causing the flickering.

    So I absolutely HAVE to use the Display Port?? Or can I use two HDMIs? I’m trying to set up a Windows Laptop and my MacBook Air M1.

    • @avicotech-us
      @avicotech-us  2 года назад

      There are 2 models of this KVM. One with all HDMI and another that has HDMI+DP (like we showed in this video). If you have an all HDMI environment, then you should go with buytesmart.com/hks421. So no, you don't have to use DisplayPort but you will still have to make 2 connections... even if they are 2 HDMI connections.

    If I have a MacBook Pro with a M1 pro chip will I still need the docking station?

    • @avicotech-us
      @avicotech-us  Год назад

      It won't be necessary unless you want to avoid the use of adapters or you have to take the Mac from one place to another very often, with the docking station you only need one connections from the computer, although you will still need two video connections and USB from the dock to the KVM.

    Can i also power my Macbook with the USB-B to USB-C cable?

    • @avicotech-us
      @avicotech-us  9 месяцев назад

      Not from the KVM, the KVM provides enough power for the video connections, keyboard and mouse but you can use an USB-C to HDMI + PowerDelivery Adapter like this one: amzn.to/3UeyIbu

    Would the M3 Macbook Pro work without a dock. So usb-c and hdmi?

    • @avicotech-us
      @avicotech-us  Год назад +1

      It will depend on the MacBook's chipset, make sure it supports multiple external monitors, the M3 Chipset must be Pro, Pro Max or Ultra (MacBook's model doesn't define the chipset model)

    How is the input delay for gamer?

    • @avicotech-us
      @avicotech-us  5 месяцев назад +1

      Not noticeable imo...Lots of customers use a personal gaming PC and work PC KVM setup.
      We just released a new USB 3.0 KVM; amzn.to/3LEjjMt
      Its HDMI 2.0 so it can support high refresh rate resolutions like 1920x1080@240hz or 2560x1440@180hz.
