As they say, simplicity is the ultimate sophistication
Lots of people trash talk apple products for being expensive, but man that display is gorgeous
In design only, recent 32"OLED are better in every way. If you care so much about design, wait for the Spectrum Black, which has that amazing OLED panel with Apple-like design.
What people don’t often take into account is that Apple gear works out less expensive when factoring in depreciation
@@Altoseb not really, yes I can buy a 1600$ and it only depreciates to 1000$ when I wanna sell it, but the thing is: THAT 600 ALREADY GETS YOU A MONITOR OF SIMILAR QUALITY. That you don't need to sell when you upgrade, you can use it as a second monitor or give it away.
@@houssamalucad753 Similar quality? lol get back to school.
Show me a monitor at $600 of comparable quality in build, materials, design etc
@@Altoseb I would love to see a $600 5k display for one as well.
One thing as a hybrid setup worker myself, you can always just remote into your PC from your Mac using the Microsoft Remote Dekstop app. Works like a charm, and can switch between desktops with a swipe
Hmm. Could this support three monitors?
@@Jairoglyphx From my testing, I only have a dual monitor setup, but yes; there's an option to "use all available displays" which takes up all the monitors you have by default.
shouldn't you just install window on your Mac, Mac SSD are expensive but I think it still lower than separate PC
@@hirunguyen4522 You could, but this is for individuals who need a PC for specific workflows/tasks/applications that Mac simply couldn't process or have a work machine they want to keep separate from their personal. ie. machine learning, crypto mining, MS studio, etc.
@@hirunguyen4522 Mac SSD for OS, external storage for everything else!
Taking your laptop and moving around whilst working is such a great productivity hack.
I went the same route, it's so so clean with the Studio Display. The 60hz makes that i need a separate setup for gaming though, the only disadvantage.
And I agree, the Mac Studio Display isn't even very bad value. There is just nothing like it. The build quality, webcam, pixel density, seamless Apple integration and also the resale value.
If i were just a gamer i would not Choose Studio display, most gamers won't understand, Creatives like me designing apps, websites and branding literally need the 218ppi with proper color accuracy and scaling resolution we don't need High refresh rate... Only time i use my High refresh rate monitors is for gaming that's all. IT'S HARD TO FIND A PROPER 218ppi 27 inch monitors!
thank you for treating us with another setup video Daniel!
This video is a treat! The colors, the vibrance and the simplicity of it all! Great sound design too!
The cinematography on this is INSANE.
Daniel, this is a superb desk setup. I love following your channel.
Wow, thanks so much!
Can you elaborate on how the PC is connected to the monitor and how you switch inputs?
I love how much space your desk set-up saves. This is my dream setup - the PC since it would take me way too long to build my pc as a beginner.
I love that this setup doesn't rely on a desk shelf like all the other Instagram setup accounts. Once you go super minimal with a monitor that does it all - you don't need the other clutter
You're absolutely right about the display. Even today it's such a good package. I can't go back to 4K!
This video's production quality is an instant sub. Love the smooth transitions. I thought it was going to be yet another desk setup video.. Great stuff!
Love the insiration. But maybe averaging a different desk setup every year isn't minimalist?
minimalism only on the aesthetic part obviously, like most minimalism RUclips gurus 🤡
Loving your wallpaper Daniel!!
I'm a 3D artist and I use my MacBook M1 Max Macbook and ProDisplay XDR 32" for editing and retouching. For all the 3D stuff I use a Windows workstation with 3 x 4090 GPUs and a custom watercooling. It sits in another room and I control it 100% remotely. It works perfectly and my room is quiet and cool.
How do you connect to the windows workstation? Via software or hdmi over Ethernet?
@@TheBurntHoney the workstation is connected to my router via ethernet and I use the software parsec to control it! So no cable. In the past I used my ProDisplay with a special Belkin VR glasses cable with my windows computer - that is possible.
@@googlenutzer8768 how’s the latency? I’m curious because I want to do the same eheh.
@@TheBurntHoney It's absolutely fine for using cinema 4d at 4k resolution at home with my 250mbit connection. It's also usable with 10mbit connections from hotels for example when I'm traveling. However the latency is not enough for gaming in my case, even though the software is meant for that. Maybe on a windows-windows setup and a faster internet connection. But as I said, for me it is the best solution and I'm working over 3 years this way now.
The HP Z27, Z32 and Z38c displays are pretty good, minimalistic enough for most people and can be found for €250,- up to €850 euros. They're all 4K(-ish) and have power delivery, mat screen finish, use metal for the base and enough (USB) ports to use as a hub. It's lacking speakers and a webcam, but that's what you could use the MacBook Pro for with the correct stand.
stop it with your clean transitions! I wasn't ready for that
A few months ago I would've agreed with you on the Studio, there simply was not something better for productivity on a Mac. However, LG dropped their 32" 4k OLED recently with an improved pixel substructure that fixes text clarity issues on previous OLEDs. That monitor has a non-gamery design and has the matte coating that I assume you prefer, it also has very good speakers (I assume just as good as the studio display) although it doesn't have the USB hub of other alternatives, you'll have to buy that separately and hide it under the desk. Oh and the 240hz OLED panel is a joy to use for content consumption, it's leagues better than the Apple Studio.
I think the main thing is the 5K (and colour accuracy) - allowing for macOS to do a clean doubling of its 1440p UI rather than produce a 5K image that is downscaled to 4K.
@@Peahnuts understandable. For the color accuracy most of these new OLEDs have an sRGB (as accurate as the studio) and an Adobe RGB mode (which is better than the studio for those that need to work with HDR).
As for the resolution, yes, I'm aware double the native resolution is best for Mac scaling, but the contrast and color pop of OLEDs give the illusion of better resolution, and it's not like 4k at 32" isn't sharp even at macOS basic scaling. Furthermore when using his PC the scaling is a non issue.
The MKBHD video at 2:58 is not quite what you might think. Note how the title is in quotes. His video is in response to the assertion that it’s too expensive; he makes a case for why it may not be a bad deal.
Like you, I've been through a lot of work environment changes. Today I just have the Studio Display connected to my MacBook Air 15" and when I want to game, I use my HP Omen with a RTX 3080 using thunderbolt as well. My keyboard and mouse are connected via USB on the back of the Studio Display and everything work beautifully. No docks, no extra cables and the 5K res is just perfect for a 1440p scaling at 200% in Windows. Speakers work, microphone work, camera work. I think it's a THE BEST minimalist / portable / good performant / hybrid setup, one can have these days. I just hope maybe for a future OLED version with 90Hz at least, but not a deal breaker. It feels so good to have thing that do a lot, with very few stuff. Nice video!
That is such a beautiful setup! Wish I weren’t so poor 😂
as a minimalist myself, I love the look of this setup. But as some others have said, I'm not sure how convenient is actually is. Removing a bunch of gear is always nice, but when you're sacrificing so much, I'm not sure I'd go that extra mile myself. Mainly things like not having proper speakers, no light bar on the monitor etc..
Eh, the speakers on the Studio Display are better than many speakers under $60-$70, and the sound quality is good enough for every day use, music, and gaming. While Daniel doesn't use a monitor light, he is using that small softbox light which gives a similar effect to a monitor light. It's not that he's sacrificing so much, just compromising certain aspects of a setup for minimilasm and simplicity.
Especially going back from 144hz to 60hz... Must be pain. Also brio is definitely better webcam (also previous monitor had usb hub/power delivery too so idk what he was comparing at 6:19). That "integrated stand" when he paid extra for adjustable stand is also kinda funny
Wow I thought your previous Ergonofis setup was amazing but man there's something about the absolute minimalistic simplicity of this setup that cuts out so much stress from all the little components @6:20 which seriously makes me consider having a future setup more like this instead...it's just so simple yet elegant with less fuss to worry about and research 😇
doesn't matter how fancy a setup may be, what matters is getting job done
Love the Setup ! But I think adding a desk mat would enhance it much further
Your videos are crisp and clean. Great stuff
I’ve been waiting for this one!
The cinema display looks clean!
Nice job
Was lucky enough to pick up a nano-textured studio display (vesa mount) for like £980 something via Amazon Warehouse a few years back. Love it to bits but even at that price it's still too expensive for what it is!
Just some friendly advise, I’d not place a display with a camera opposite the bed. ✌️
Great video.
Love the clean workspace. Btw, there is a company making monitors similar to Apple for around 900 usd. I don’t remember the name though
I would absolutely love to see a video on Murphy beds.....please!
Before I could even finish watching this video, just want you to know that I have been waiting for this for a very long time since I have noticed you started using a MacBook again.
Long waiting for the next gen Studio Display!!!
I was inspired by the 2023 zero-cable setup and did something very similar, but now, after seeing this, I need to redo the whole thing. 🤣
Great video, thank you for sharing! It would be so good to see the functionality of your new studio set up!
Even though I do not have money for this setup, with your video I just dream having it and it is a pleasure cause its the best calm, detailed presentation and thank you for that :)
U GREEN power bank Awsome
Pls make an appartament’s tour
Great material! A great combination of Win+Mac for Architects, I also use this combination and it works great! Although actually since I started performing visualizations in blender (it works fully natively on Apple M-series CPU+GPU), the desktop computer has been practically idle ;)
I think you might have a problem. This is your like, nineth desk setup in the last three years!
Nice video, God bless you brother.
A Mac Studio Display dose look the best indeed myself are going to use a Mac Studio in my Studio Apartment on a Article light wood Desk Mac keyboard and mouse
My question is: why did you feel the need to replace your old set up?
Great job. Just some silly question………how do you switch on the powerbook ? You have to open and replace on the stand everytime or there is a workaround ? You leave it always on charge ? No extra hdd or nas ?
Great setup! How high does your chair go? I see that the desk has a minimum height of 26.5" (without the desk top). Just wondering how you're able to sit up so high because every sit-stand desk I see online is too high in the sitting position for most people
Man to buy a studio display NOW is kinda crazy but it also depends on whay you value tbh..& it does look better. OLED monitors also are poor for productivity font wise imho
hey bro i like the Chair is it on amazon ?
Love the interlocking compartments in your Alex drawers Dan. Where did you get those from?
Love your setup! Could you kindly share what cable you are using to connect the PC to the Studio Display?
I believe it’s the WJESOG DisplayPort to USB-C Cable, but seems like you will a more “modern” GPU to drive it.
I will buy one for myself also to try (I’m using UltraFine 5K), currently I’m using another brand cable which can only support 4K without audio.
LG C3 for $649, no issues with MacOS either, looks amazing in 42 inches.
you should buy a white cable.
Random question: what are the roller blinds seen on the windows?
Question - where did you get your chair glides from (for the Langfjall desk chair)?
Are you playing games on that screen or do you still have a dedicated gaming setup?
Love the setup.. but those thick bezels mann.. its not easy to look at..
I feel that my desk set up is quite like yours, except that mine had a little more natural feeling and aesthetics.
How minimalist can you go?
...and this video shows up!!!
anyone know what casters those are for the Lanfjall desk chair?
Man, how many times can you say "where" in one video 😂
Nice and polished setup as usual!
I love how the Studio Display looks but it really needs ProMotion, 60hz at that price is criminal…
Apple is likely waiting on Thunderbolt 5, to be able handle 120Hz 5k
What’s the video light you use?
You can give the Xiaomi Curved Monitor a try, it looks gorgeously sleek and is so affordable too. The price-quality ratio is insane!
All IKEA everything and out of the box Apple products isn't the most interesting setup, but if it works for you more power to you.
This guy defo has that British builder type of vocabulary hehe
I will at some point buy a MacBook as it (technically) should be superior for software development. I did purchase an iphone pro 13 some time ago, but absolutely hated iOS because of how inefficient the UX is, and how many bugs it had (some have been fixed in the latest iOS releases). Suffice to say, I returned it. Hopefully the MacBook/macOS experience will be better.
Man the Millennial Grey is true...
I got the HDMI version of the DisplayPort + USB to USBC Cable and it can't do 120hz how does the DP work can it do 120hz 1440p?
Love the video bro, but putting an air purifier in a corner completely defeats its purpose. ♥
A monitor I would recommend (although it's not out just yet) would be the Spectrum Black by Dough. 32inch OLED, 4k, glossy screen and only €1,150. I think the design looks better than Apples monitor with a super thin stand and very minimal bezels. I hear the build quality is really good too.
Even the "basic" LG 32 inch 4k oled looks pretty ok without any branding on the front.
Dough (formerly Eve) isn't trushworthy. A quick Google search will reveal articles and feedback from thousands of people who were scammed by them. Many have ordered their monitors but never received it. Others have bought the monitor from other retailers and had quality issues that the company refused to fix. The company has a huge track record of shady business practices, do not buy anything from them.
32 inch with 4k vs 27 inch with 5k is such a huge difference, that should be worth the extra money in any case! Also OLED does not have the best color accuracy - so not suitable for design or editiong.
Hello Daniel! Do you edit videos yourself or have you hired someone? I’m an editor and would love to discuss how I could help, if you’re interested
1:56 Here in the US we would kill to have our firearm storage that beautifully neat
I had the same setup but I couldn't stand the 60hz of the screen.
Honestly, do yourself a favour and put the PC on a little shelf off the floor so that you can vacuum under it and it doesn’t collect as much dust.
Favourite item for me was the bible! That was encouraging to see for me!
One thing you didn't touch on was gaming - which you have previously. For shooters and the like, I can't imagine a 60hz display is good for that?
That said, I completely agree that one thing reviews fail to capture about the spec-to-price ratio of the studio display is how beautiful it is, and the build quality. If you care about those things, pretty much only Apple can deliver for you
I mean people use it for casual gaming not for competitive sport, if you are it’s not good for it. If you are a casual gamer get a PS4 and be done with it
I would argue the Spectrum Black is the best monitor once it launches. Apple-like design with the OLED panel that mops the floor with the outdated IPS of the studio display. Only problem is that the company is kinda shady, so only buy from a third party where you can return it.
Ps: they already have a monitor called spectrum one, that is basically a 144hz but 4k studio display. It's almost half the price too so it's a better choice for most people if you're willing to sacrifice the warranty.
@@sa34w The dude likes to play competitive shooters, from prior videos. I can't imagine 60hz is good for something like that.
If this was 100 years ago this guy would have been in a wagon peddling snake oil or curatives to people who didn't need them.
Apple Studio Display and a bunch of Ikea furniture....... Yeah.... that's a look I guess.....
Everything is minimalist except the price
People always complain about apple products being expensive but there products are always future proof for 5+ years. Nothing compares always. Waiting for the new studio display. Love the video thanks for sharing.
I find that Apple is good at promotion. They loudly promote features that they add, when those features have been available on PC or Android for years (but the features weren't widely known)
I'm using a good Dell laptop that's 7 years old, and have no issue with that. I don't know where that legend about Macs being future proof, as their last OS never cover hardware that's older than 3 years.
@@MyFocusVariesuntrue.
@@maxm7103 all I’m saying is apple releases tech thats ahead of its time then most competitors or no competitors with its products. There products are always ahead of it time. Example if you buy the studio display which is 2 and a half years old already in 2024 it will still be relevant in 2029 if you pushed it as a 5k monitor and with all the other specs it comes with. There products last long in terms of quality and relevance in some of there products
Idk man for me a 60hz IPS monitor is outdated already, not future proof. It was the best mac display for a while but these new 32" OLEDs that launched this year mop the floor with it for a significantly cheaper price.
I respect every one of your setups and home living tours. But Now after watching the third / fourth? (i've lost count) I am starting to wonder about these video types. Why not just find a location and settle? You are constantly changing everything. Why isn't longer stays playing a part of your planning process?
If i were just a gamer i would not Choose Studio display, most gamers won't understand, Creatives like me designing apps, websites and branding literally need the 218ppi with proper color accuracy and scaling resolution we don't need High refresh rate... Only time i use my High refresh rate monitors is for gaming that's all. IT'S HARD TO FIND A PROPER 218ppi 27 inch monitors!
4:34 Why is it not straight. WHY WHY!!
I love Mac but my budget isn’t enough
My body hurts me when I see your selection of a work chair...
M3 laptops are great at battery life. That's all.
PC WHERE
i see yall are undergoing sensory & colour deprivation torture
Your videos are so inspiring and beautiful
Love it! 😍
I spent years buying Windows laptops based on the spec sheet. The problem with that is that the stuff that annoys you about a laptop isn't the stuff that appears on the spec sheet. Most recently for me, a laptop with weedy speakers mounted on the bottom and a fan that would rival a 747 for noise, meaning that if you wanted to put your laptop on the sofa or bed and watch a RUclips video, you could barely hear it. And don't get me started on how many keyboard keys that I've broken. The thing about going for the best spec at the lowest price is that they've usually got there by cutting corners on stuff you can't see. And if they haven't cut any corners, they're probably roughly the same price as the Macbook anyway.
I use apple products and this monitor is a pos 60hz monitor
Where can I get that wallpaper?
Great video
Where's the massive ugly printer?
Is there a place where all the perfectly good but used influencer set ups go to die? Hope it’s not as wasteful as it looks.
6:06 You said "There are definitely far better spec products that you can buy for the money"
.. but then you contradict yourself by showing monitors that are nowhere near the Apple Studio spec-wise. :-/
"Macbook being undoubtedly worse than a lof custom built PCS"
Ever since apple switched over their own silicone chips they have been abolustelty shitting on any windows PC you can even build lol.
