Cool review. Recommendation: Don't mirror your video. It gets super confusing that you keep pointing at one display, then you mirror the video, and now you're pointing at another.
unfortunately the monitors need to support displayport daisy chain too, all of them except the last one. Those monitors are quite rare and more expensive than the ones that don't.
Seems like you could have used a 2 display kvm and always kept that third monitor plugged into your desktop. Then, if you want to be able to control the media playback, you can use Barrier installed on both computers to be able to move the mouse across all 3 monitors, between computers
To everyone complaining about the prices. I bought a cheap kvm switch from Amazon with all the features that this more expensive switch didn't have. The switch worked for a little bit and then ended up burning out during a power outage and took two of my monitors with it. Very expensive to loose two 4k monitors to a cheap kvm switch.
This is perfect for my work from home setup. Question tho when u had your work laptop on monitors 1 and 2 and the podcast on monitor 3 were you still able to move the mouse over to monitor 3 and turn it onn and off and interact with your gaming pc while the two other screens had your work laptop on?
You can only control one PC at a time. But with the programmed buttons you can switch the usb control to the other PC with the podcast on if you wanted to just control that one monitor and PC. I found it easy to just push the main control button back to whatever PC I needed to do something in real quick.
Thanks! With the dock I just plugged in my monitor cables from the dock-> to the KVM, just like you would say with a GPU -> to the KVM. The dock cable responsible for all audio and data / video is run via a USB-C cable from the dock to my laptop
Hey thanks for the video. I am trying to find the best solution for my set up which has been extremely challenging due to my requirements. Essentially I am looking for a KVM or a monitor with a built in KVM that can support 4 MacOS devices - all via USB Type C upstream and downstream (to provide power and data). Added bonus if I can use my existing Dell S2722QC but if not, I can purchase a KVM + 1-2 Monitors. Use case is for office work with light Netflix and video streaming. Any suggestions or recommendations please advise.
Can you let me know how you connected your docking station? I have a very similar setup. A pc and a work laptop with a docking station however, my docking station does have three monitor connections but I'm confused about how to connect the docking station to the kvm swithc.
hey, thanks for the review. I hope you can answer me a question. If you switch to having both PCs shown on the monitors, i.e. 2 monitors show the work pc and 1 shows the gaming pc. does the gaming pc still see the other two monitors or is the connection cut when you switch them to the work pc and all windows are on one screen? Best case would be if the user could choose which of the two should happen. Thanks for the answer!
That would only work if I had enough display and usb ports in the actual laptop itself. Most laptops don’t come with much these days. For example my laptop only has one hdmi and a couple usb type a ports. So the docking station allows for expansion of those ports and I plug them into the KVM so I can easily switch between the two.
@PCTechHustle makes sense! I have a docking station too. Wondering what would be the right set up. Is it PCs ->docking station-> KVM? How is your set up?
Looking into these as i currently just have a basic ugreen switch, so no monitors through it just usb devices. The issue I have is my usb mic if i have it through the switcher suddenly starts squeaking and makes me sound like a chipmunk. My. keyboard also repeats keys (only on windows) when through the switcher.
Does this kvm switch have kvm over ip? And does it have EDID passthrough if it doesn't? I need to remotely connect to my kvm switch if possible. Whether it be through a pikvm or through this kvm switch. Can't find much information about it on the manufacturers website...
with the new 7680x2160 monitor by Samsung, wonder if there's a KVM switch that will work with such resolution/refresh rate (@ 240hz). does Tesmart make DP 1.4 KVM switches?
Does it have EDID? I've heard you need that if you don't want the two PCs to think you disconnected the display while switching, as some apps can have a problem with that, also resolution/scaling adjustments could be annoying.
I've had this KVM for about 6 months and yes it does have EDID. When you switch between inputs it remembers where on the screen your applications were etc. Its a great piece of kit just rather expensive!
I was told these don’t hold for very long, how’s yours doing after 6 months? I really want to get one but not if it’s going to break, I want something to last forever. Thoughts?
I’ll be perfectly honest with you. It does “okay”. Sometimes I have a monitor loose connectivity which results in me have to unplug / plug back in the monitor on the back of the KVM to get it to work. I’ve also had a couple freeze up periods where it just randomly refused to work. I may do a follow up video / swap to another product but I can’t 100% get behind this product.
@@PCTechHustle thanks for the response! I might just go with a standard 3 output docking station and switch the usbc between my two laptops. It’s a shame since I wanted my ps5 in the mix as well, but oh well. I’m surprised there’s not a bigger market for KVMs, it’d be cool to see a high quality version of this product. Thanks again for the reply!
@@PCTechHustle Hi just found this video. Did you keep using this or did you switch to something else? I have 3 pcs I'd like to use this KVM with one 1440p 144Hz monitor. Thanks!
This KVM switch can not support 4K144hz or 5K120hz/5K240hz over DisplayPort. Yes, there are advanced KVM switches from other makers do support DisplayPort Video monitor sharing up to 4K165hz, 4K240hz, 5K120/240hz without issues.
I believe I stated in the video the capabilities but yes will only support at max 4k/60hz. 1440p though I’m happy will support up to 144hz which was my main goal.
It's been over 6 months since you have released this video. Have you ran into any issues with this KVM switch? I'm tempted to get one but the reviews for it are kind of bad.
Glad you asked! It does flake out sometimes. I’ll get monitor flicker and sometimes actually it refuses to produce any display / control at all. I am not a massive fan of it. I might be looking for other options.
@@PCTechHustle Thanks for the update. I subscribed to your channel if you happen to find any alternatives. I'll be looking forward to seeing them. it seems like the 3 monitor 2 output devices are very few and far between as of recently.
Thank you, I had looked at this but didn't go with it and I am glad I didn't. My setup is a bit more involved and ultimately I think better suited how I work. First I have a gaming rig, a work laptop, a personnel laptop and an Xbox all on 5 monitors. 2 Monitors are used just for my work laptop so they are plugged in directly, so really I needed only 3 monitors on KVM. I use four separate KVMs one for each monitor and another for just the Keyboard/mouse . This helps because I don't switch monitors that I don't need. In your example you have one that is dedicated to your game rig and end up having to change and then re-change just that one (As a helpful hint I have a separate mouse on my desk that only connects to my game rig so that during work I'm not changing everything over just to skip a song). For my purposes, I just change the ones I need. Not listing to music then one button and one more screen for work. Weekend but monitoring work servers while they change over a switch, I can change my keyboard over without losing my screens (3 screens for servers, 1 for the Xbox and 1 for email and texting). As an added bonus, all those KVM also have USB for custom keypads and mice.
Nice KVM I think. But it seems like you cant just go over with your mouse from one PC to another, right? So with the example you showed with the laptop on screens 1 und 2 and laptop on screen 3 you cant just go over with the mouse from screen 2 to screen the and control your desktop all of a sudden, right? Cause I know that more professional KVM solutions do offer that kind of a feature an I am wondering if this could do it as well?
It doesn't no but there are keyboard shortcuts to change the input device for your mouse. Double pressing right alt changes mouse input device which is just as good as moving mouse between screens.
This is what I don't like, I dont want screens to switch when I just simply want to be able to use 1 keyboard/ 1 mouse on two different laptops at same time, each with its own monitor. What solution can be used outside of sofware which work will block due to firewalls.
i dont get it, why r u using a hub between laptop and kwm switch? cant u just connect laptop directly to kwm switch? ok i think i got it now, if u did that, you would only get 1 monitor right? but why do u get 2 monitors from laptop? doesnt it support 3?
Definitely overkill, but nice video, personally I would just buy a kvm that supports 1 monitor just for my home server (NAS, Virtual machine system, etc:.)
Nice switch but too expensive for what it is, not worth $700. I purchased a 4 PC version (IDgear) with a 1x monitor interface for roughly $200, it's older version that appears to have the same connections in the back as this one is offering but at a lower price.
