Going Undercover Inside the NRA | Investigators

- Two reporters from Al Jazeera go undercover in the National Rifle Association (NRA) to reveal how they manipulate public opinion after deadly massacres.
As an Australian living in the US, Peter Charley was perplexed by American gun culture and the vice-like grip that the NRA held over politics. So he enlisted the help of his friend Rodger Muller and set up ‘Gun Rights Australia’, a fake gun lobby purporting to want to reform gun laws in Australia.
Soon enough, they were welcomed with open arms by the NRA. With the help of hidden cameras, they captured their inner workings, how they influence public opinion and how they respond to mass shootings.
Two years into the investigation, Rodger befriended One Nation, a right-wing populist Australian political party. They hoped Rodger could help them solicit donations from the US gun lobby. The investigation documented the murky world of political donations and backroom dealings and caught One Nation red-handed seeking donations in return for promising to change Australian gun laws.

Neuromarketing is mass mind control. Gun violence is new and it was fed into our culture for the purpose of selling more guns. Let that sink in. Our culture was not created by us, it was created by marketing. These minds that commit violence belong to the NRA. ~~~ This synthetic gun culture has been growing for the last couple of decades or so, all according to the NRA's plan. That means that people a growing up throughout their developmental period being ingrained with the NRA's view of romanticized gun violence. So, when politicians under the NRA's thumb say "it's a mental illness problem," it was the NRA that created that mental health epidemic.

That is 100% true.

Good job Vice! 👍

Fairplay to the guy who acted like a gun nut in front of everyone in the name of journalism!
Peter Charley - investigative journalist for Al Jazeera organized it. Roger Muller is the undercover reporter who ran the “GRA”
What's really going to blow everyone's Minds is that the NRA is going downhill because gun owners think think that they've gone soft. New guns rights organizations are popping up all the time now with much more ambitious goals like the Firearms policy coalition [FPC] and the Gun Owners of America (GOA). School shootings are statistically insignificant events and the gun legislation attempting to be passed is nothing more than knee-jerk legislation taking advantage of tragedy. None of the proposed gun control measures would have stopped the shooting or any of the others and outright bans are off the table. Guns save far more lives than they take which is just not just rhetoric, it's backed by a 2013 CDC study commissioned by the Obama Administration that found 500,000-3 million defensive gun uses annually. To give perspective, firearms kill roughly 10,000 people excluding suicides of course. It is said that brandishing a firearm is enough to stop many attacks before they occur to the extent that many states are trying to get this legalized. cope.

Okay but why do we always ignore mental illness. Why do we keep acting like america doesn’t have an epidemic of mental illness as well. It’s like the media is trying to put the blame solely on the guns when it’s a combination of both. Everything with these mass shootings starts inside the brain with mental illness. The next step is the gun. Reduce the amount of people in the first step, then the second step is some sort of gun control.
Thanks for *not* Geo-blocking this video from Australian viewers.

It seems Pauline Hansen wanted to receive money, but then was afraid of any exposure that would kill her political career. She carefully crafted her words of denial to have received the money from NRA and registered her words in the parliament for future-proofing her career. It is hard to see it the other way in that her conscience kicked in at the last minute, but may be possible.
Perhaps more frightening is the fact that mainstream politicians were not introducing such a policy. Perhaps they receive too much from multi-national corporations!

No one is saying you can't.
@@jdheatmag why lie about it? Several states are outright trying to ban it and some already banned it long ago. The old argument of "no one is saying" is an outright lie, because there are a lot of people saying these things. There are a lot of uneducated people making wild claims and making us law abiding gun owners out to be nutcases, which couldn't be further from the truth. I guess lets start chipping away and the 1st, 4th, and 5th amendments and see how quickly everyone wants to fight for them. You wouldn't have the rest without the 2nd.
For what it's worth, a lot of gun owners I know, especially younger ones, don't like the NRA. I hope people don't see this video and paint a group as big as the gun community with a broad brush of supporting the NRA. Trust me, there are a lot of reasons to dislike them whether you're pro or anti gun ownership.
What bothers me about lots of American gun owners (as someone who believes people should have the right to own arms) is that they are absolutely closed off to ANY gun regulation, no matter how small or reasonable it would be. I've talked to people who say even suggesting that one would need a gun training certificate and license to own any firearm, or some mental health screening, is insanity and "won't stop any deaths" even when all the evidence shows contray. I feel like the NRA is largely to blame for this mentality.
@@AK-jm1sc I hate the NRA, I am a gun owner. I am open to gun control, but I have not seen many gun control laws and regulation that would cause a decrease in gun crime. Now, I do think registrations and licenses CAN make sense, sometimes, but these only stop people who have clean records, have a good amount of money, and are making rash decisions. Because with the federally required background check in place right now, you have to have a clean legal record to get a gun. The licensing to buy a gun would 100% prevent rash decisions, but anyone who is calculating and planning wouldn't be stopped by a month or two of paperwork. However, that waiting period can also prevent someone who is attempting to protect themselves from getting that protection in time, which I believe is a valid concern when thinking of these laws.
I think a big problem a lot of people have with gun control is the idea of federal level gun control. Because while licensing and registration could work in some states, it would be pointless or even harmful in other states
@@AK-jm1sc that's just my perspective, living in a low crime, very low gun crime, but very relaxed gun laws state
@@stinkothestooleater4490 I think you overestimate how calculated and planed many mass shootings are, there are those cases for sure, but also plenty of people who go into a sudden frame of mind where they get it in their heads that they're going to do this awful thing and become completely committed to it momentarily, yet given just some weeks/months of time, would look back and see it as insanity. I've been around a lot of people with mental illness, particularly bipolar (runs in the family) and it's often not what people imagine. I've known people switch between long psychosis (with the ability to keep it stealth in public) to being normal empathic people. Some months in-between can absolutely defer a person like this from committing such a crime (in my country the waiting time is about 6 months). Then not to even mention suicides, most people imagine suicides are long-planned but in fact according to much data, most are completely spontaneous and often a symptom of a temporary mental breakdown that can last hours/days/weeks/months. I absolutely believe many lived would be saved with just some waiting times.
Also, having a gun should not be the first step in self-defense. If a person is in such a threat, they need to evacuate, reach out to social services, contact police etc. as the first line. A society's safety should not revolve around owning guns. There needs to be better supportive and protection services first and foremost.
@AK-jm1sc because the evidence from major cities with stricter laws than almost every state in America proves gun control doesn't work. It only works in countries in Europe because they allowed themselves to be disarmed and because of it most of them have restrictions on other rights such as self defense, free speech etc. And even then all those regulations don't stop it. Australia, Britain, Germany all still have mass shootings. Japan lost their ex PM because someone made a gun to shoot him, it does not matter what you do if people want to kill, they will succeed in doing it. It's not a gun problem it's a person problem
I quit the NRA years ago....no regrets. They aren't just a gun lobby, anymore. They are a lobby for all right wing politics.
Well the left wing has left guns alone. Not the people but the political organisations. So it's understandable.
Donate to the gun owners of America. They don’t compromise on gun legislation.
you're so cool

RIGHT ON. Glad Australia banned assault rifles. If having guns everywhere made people safer, the US would be the safest place on Earth. Instead, the US ranks #2 worldwide in firearm related fatalities.
Gotta ban those dangerous books, so kid's can focus on those guns
Of course those Australian politicians' rhetoric focused on complaining about the investigative tactics used and Al Jazeera being involved. They completely ignored the facts and corruption uncovered by the investigations. Very standard. We have lots of that here in the US as well.
The Australian political party they met with has zero influence in either house but represents the values of the American far Right who unfortunately has too much influence politically. What is not mentioned is more significant and that is our strict gun laws were instigated by the very pro-gun Conservative Country Party who were in power at the time of the massacre. They wrote and voted for our strict gun laws immediately after the massacre with full knowledge their constituents would vote them out of office, out of a job but chose the greater good and did it anyway. I can't imagine a day the GOP would do that.

Americans will never ever give up their guns. I.e the ones that have them. Likely solutions to the violence and lives lost will have to factor in this aspect.
And will continue to be about 55th in the world in per capita gun deaths, Carib, central and south am, central Africa continue to lead. Many with much more restrictive gun laws than USA.
I respect gun onwers and we need to understand that stricter gunlaws does not equal taking away your rights. It just makes it harder for the unskilled/uneducated Amercians to easily get a gun. Which reduces gun manufacturers profits and NRA salaries even though they are non profit.
but reducing gun manufacturers profits basically destroy the gun industry putting potentially thousands of people at risk because you wont be able to purchase a gun anymore to defend yourself

Adult aged children and their toys that go bang bang
because they have dreams of dystopia from too much media... and then rail against media as if they're not the result of it
and adult children who like cars that go vroom vroom. And adult children who like to read and watch heartbreaking and traumatic stories to entertain themselves, and adult children who drink so they can handle the daily mental boo boos of being alive then decide to go for a drive and end lives of other people. And adult children who have kids when they cant afford it or handle it and leave a broken family perpetuating criminal activity. Or adult children who believe banning a weapons platform used in less than 5% of murders will make much of a dent in gun activity. Or even those online emotional charged who love to comment and try insulting others of their beliefs and add nothing useful to the conversation. I went and watched the whole documentary, so brave of the undercover journalist, thank you for bringing this to light.
To bad its a lie. They use Australia as an example when Australia only has 25 million people. America has 330 million. Of course our mass murders will be higher.

A lot of people seem to be harping on the fact you can get an NRA license for pretty cheap, but a cheap NRA license doesn't get you in on meetings like this. Yeah, it isn't exactly ground breaking stuff, and maybe what they did isn't incredibly difficult, but it's still pretty interesting. Credit where credit's due.
Am i missing something? Im a "gun nut" so I am sure there is bias here. But really besides one NRA member cringely telling them how to win an argument, is any of this bad? I was waiting for the expose because i really don't like the NRA and I know they are corrupt enablers, but was it really "australians took money from the american gun lobby while it was completely legal to take money from International sources" the orange hair lady looked like she got caught with her pants down... but im not really seeing how the NRA looks bad here. Just follow Wayne La Pierre around or something. They would get way more out of that.
They just spam your letterbox with magazines and other assorted junkmail.
we don't have many guns in the UK and look at us, we have very few freedoms left and were losing the few we do, so keep your guns, and protect your rights!

I double dare NBC, CBS, ABC, and CNN to show this on TV.
Vice is so biased. What ever happened to reporting without the drama.
Wonder if they touched on the riots against the government in Australia.
Riots? There were protests by a minority of people which is expected but nothing of any significance, we were proud of this bipartisan push to fast track these laws and still are.
@@anthecrawford3957 clearly "we" doesn't speak for everyone. Seems like delusional cope.
I’d like to respond to this with a Canadian point of view.
First of all, starting on common ground. I think all of us can agree that gun violence has been on the rise. And that it’s caused a lot of pain for many people.
I’d like to also add that sensationalizing and/or using events like shootings to your benefit (no matter what side of the fence you’re on) is awful and only serves to further harm victims.
That said I can’t speak to American laws or how the NRA works, as I don’t have much experience there.
But from a Canadian perspective, the key to getting gun violence under control is not banning guns.
Let me explain.
Our country, as many others during the pandemic, experienced a huge influx of issues ranging from people suffering from mental health issues, to poverty, to homelessness and other issues.
Coupled with our Liberal party’s cavalier attitude toward our justice and bail system, these two things have detonated a powder keg of gun violence across our country.
Instead of tackling the root cause issues causing the problem, like offering programs to vulnerable people who need it most, increasing spending on police and border services so they can be there for our citizens and protect our border from smuggled weapons or reforming our broken bail and justice system, our government has chosen to pander for votes by calling for outrageous gun bans.
In Canada, in order to own and use a firearm, you must be educated, licensed, vetted and continuously screened (daily) to remain eligible.
On top of that we have very strict laws governing the use, storage, transport and transfer of firearms, including magazine capacity limits.
Our government is proposing to spend billions implementing new bans and a confiscation program nation wide instead of spending that money on services that would improve people’s lilies and reduce the risk of violence in general.
Taking firearms away from the group of people most likely to abide by the law is a shallow attempt at trying to convince naive people that this will solve our issue.
I noticed that they don't answer the questions about having the rights/abilities to defend themselves and their homes.
You should answer this question...Why is it so easy for criminals to access guns in the US? Do you support the NRA position of no police background checks? Where i live defending my home from armed intruders is something comes way down on my list of concerns...Slightly below being hit by a falling meteorite. Americans live under siege conditions on a constant war footing. .
@@zivkovicable if it's that easy for a criminal to own a gun legal or not doesn't that make it a justification to own a firearm yourself though? Word on the street is most gun owns aren't big fans anymore of the NRA. From what I hear it's mostly due to politics, people don't want to get wrapped up in whatever their offering.
Theres the police yeah, I believe people should have more faith in them but I also believe that when things go bad you need to defend yourself, the police are still human they mess up or take their time sometimes.
Plus what's disarming yourself when a criminal can get their hands on a weapon going to really accomplish
@zivkovicable the best thing for you to do is worry about your own country and shut up about anything and everything to do with the USA.

so when the NRA brings up that guns prevent between 500,000 and 3 million crimes a year in the US and are only committed with guns around 300,000 times, there are only around 20000 gun homicides a year, Australia's gun ban literally did nothing to prevent stop or even slow gun crime it was falling at a identical rate before hand, England's gun crime spiked after their gun ban, in the United States only around 50 to 60 people (including staff) die a year from school shootings which is too many still doesn't mean guns should be banned, and of course if the media sets up a straw man and gets ready to light it ablaze the only way to get your point across is go on the offensive, and if you don't think that all left wing organizations (Planned Parenthood, BLM, ect ect) don't have extremely similar guides, most shootings could have been easily prevented due to red flag laws that were not enforced by the police (including uvalde), the guns in Australia increased after the gun ban, not to mention the guns that are mainly in the anti gun legislation's sights (sorry I had to) are rifles which are guns which are not used to commit crimes almost at all it is typically pistols and other handguns, also the left have literally called for trans people to arm themselves and and commit mass shootings (including professors and Katie Hobbs the Az press secretary), now before you remove this comment and or report me for terrorism please note I have only stated objective facts from reputable sites such as the CDC and Pew Research, meanwhile many left wing news sites used statistics on shootings from and I am not joking Reddit.
