I applied to be a flight attendant back in the early 2000s. They told me in the interview that maintaining a very small weight is a part of the job description because the flight attendants have to be tiny to fit down the halls. A couple of friends of mine who were flight attendants talked me out of it because they said they were always expected to sleep with the pilots. This was in the US.

I told her why you don't become one again then if they paid well? she said, "look at me" Shes gain weight and had kids and said no chance of her getting a job back at American airlines. I worked as a flight attendant in Northern Europe and it wasn't like this. Any harassment or misbehaviour of customers, and we would give them a warning and have the guards waiting for them at the arrival gate. No hard beauty standards either, we had all sizes of both women and men. The negative things I witnessed was some unruly customers, gossip and power games by seniors. Then the constant pressure change in the body and short nights really messes up your body. Many were on sleeping pills. And garlic, you can't eat any of that...

I applied for the flight attendant position recently and I read the website carefully and checked all the requirements. I seemed to be a very good candidate so I thought I would easily get the job. I passed all the exams and the last thing to do was weight, height measurements. I was underweight so they immediately eliminated me, even though they never wrote on their website specifically about that. I had to travel, buy plane tickets and all that just to get eliminated because of weighing 6 kilos less. I was super sad and I thought I lost a huge opportunity but now I can see that I was actually saved from that madness.

I took a flight recently in business class of an Asian airline. I dont usually get to do so, but my work was paying so I made the most of it. As expected, the meals were served in courses by the flight attendants, with snacks and other amenities provided throughout. I was just being normally polite, and was understanding when my chosen meal option wasnt available (chose a seat at the back of the cabin, so everyone else had their pick before me, and was thus my own fault). After we landed, the purser told me I was the nicest passenger she'd had in a long time and really appreciated my presence on the flight. I couldn't really understand why: I mean, isn't saying "please" and "thank you" just common courtesy? That's literally all I did.

She had great memories of Piedmont Airlines and US Airways--made many many friends and had many stories--some good and some not so good. Some of wild passengers who she handled well and some that were a real problem--love to tell her stories she told me. she handled people with her smile and kindness---her smile would light up the whole cabin--everyone loved her--even her crew mates. FA are the heros of the sky too not just the pilots. She said the Pilots would certainly abuse their power whenever they could. Said many of them and many of them failed to get what they wanted. She said she would call them out if they tried to use their power on her..Stand up for yourself and others--there is a lot of power in a group--definitely when the unions get involved. One FA that I knew stopped passengers from trying to take all of ice off of the plane with them. He put the ice cubes in his mouth and showed the passengers what he was doing---The passengers were not interested any longer and stopped asking for more ice--if passengers would step in sometimes and help the FAs many problems would go away STAND UP for your favorite airline employees. They are not there to be abused just like in th real world.

At least 20% of this job is unpaid, I miss almost 15k in my bank account each year because most airlines in north america do not pay their flight attendants for boarding (and of course delays). This job is hypersexualized and no longer glamorous as it was some decades ago. Each flight I have to tell a passenger to keep their hands off of me, ensure that I am not being filmed, or worry that I won't get punched... all while having a name tag on display. Sure, the weight game has changed in the states but the pay nor the travel is worth this headache.

There are recounts of the victims, the persons who have experienced that. Some may believe and some may not.
There's also no way you can be sure that this is only happening in Asia.

my university classmate is a flight attendant... not surprised by the stories she has told. FA's also have the power too... like when they're in a specific city and there's big time artists (males), they get access to it because its mutual and you know how it goes and they sure are groupies in that sense. So not saying they're always the victims here. Moral of the story is... don't date any famous or super rich. they're part of the community and world and "it" gets shared.

I warned my cousin sister about this job. I already knew any industry 'required' you to be beutiful is basically whoring yourself to survive. Now she left her job after 4 years before covid , occasionally overcleaning herself till she hurt herself in shower, over grooming her hair till she pull atleast handfull of her hair. Basically hurt herself so much that we started noticing her bruises. During covid lockdown times it was almost impossible to get a pshyciatrist. I didnt got the hint at first why she was doing to herself. But my mum understood early. It was a hell of a year for us not because of pandemic but because the time we have to spend to give her love and assurance and keeping a strict eye over her activity. My mum removed every possible locks and latches from our doors including bathroom fearing for her taking any stupid step to hurtself again. Now she is okay after we got the professional help. Also went back to her home and came back more renewed and brave. She is now doing some online courses and probably gonna apply for hospitality degree in Australia. She never told me what happened to her but i am glad that my Didi is back.

I am a flight attendant for over 35 years, i fly for a major US airline. This person is referring to what is called Flag carriers. That means airlines like Air France, Qatar, British Airways, Air Canada, China Air etc. Airlines that are owned and operated by the countries they fly for. They are far stricter than US airlines that are privately owned and Federally supervised.
I first started at TWA and back in the day when i began when we were called "Stewardesses" there were indeed many of these beauty standards and weight restrictions that this flight attendant mentioned. But these restrictions were let go of as the airlines were facing too many civil rights lawsuits concerning these harsh and limiting beauty regulations. Up to an including past weight, age and marital status restrictions.

It was really unfortunate what happened to her. Hope she can cope or better yet, recover from depression soon. However, I worked as a flight attendant for 7.5 years with a well-known middle-eastern airline and I have never heard of what she mentioned in the earlier part of the video, or maybe those were individual cases. But first, the plastic surgery part is true. Although I didn't personally do it, I've heard about fellow crew who did. But nowadays, people are going under the knife in the name of beauty no matter what profession they are in. Illegal drug-use in my former company was quite impossible as random checks are conducted frequently. If violation is found, the crew member will be fired on the spot. Regarding prostitution to powerful figures, I've never heard of it in my 7.5 years of flying and trust me, news travels fast in this industry. I believe there are people who are willing to sell themselves in exchange for wealth and power, but that was out of their own accord. If she or people she knows were forced into this, then I really hope they will just quit the job because it is really not worth it. I have heard rumours about putting eye drops into drinks but that was to give someone diarrhoea, instead of putting them to sleep. Never tested it out so I'll never know😂 And I guess I was just unlucky to have never stumbled upon passengers having sex onboard, would love to encounter that🤣 Only had a couple in 1st class cabin, whereby the man complained about the open-top design of the suites that wouldn't allow them to do the deed in privacy. So we put them on the observation list to make sure they don't do that during the flight, to the extent of not allowing them to schedule the use of the two onboard showers at the same time to prevent just that. Yes, there were a lot of disruptive and unruly pax whom we usually handle with a warning. If that doesn't stop them and they pose a danger to themselves, others and/or the aircraft, we will proceed to restrain and call airport security to meet the aircraft and take them away. It was true what she said about some flight deck crew members power-tripping though. Grooming was indeed annoying so I am thankful that I only had minor problems with that. No one should go through what she had to go through so I really hope that if anyone finds themselves in her situation, just leave. Before it's too late.

I think it should be clarified this is the experience of crew from specific airlines in specific regions. For many crew in western companies, this is nothing like the experience. You can be drug tested or breathalysed at random times so very few dabble in drugs and alcohol like that. And surgery is purely a personal choice 😂
