    I use this pedal in front of my Mesa Subway D800, it has every pedal I need in one, the tuner works great, the fuzz sounds good, the chorus is great, I always has the comp on, and then I can turn on the Sans Amp and now I have an Ampeg SVT. I like having the Mesa sound and the Ampeg all in one rig. Plus I love that is all analog.

      I'm just figuring mine out! I also play through the Mesa Subway D800, which is the best sounding amplification of my MusicMan basses that I have found,. The Fly Rig chorus sounds amazing! I also like the effects loop, in case I want to use an echo pedal. or a different compressor. I kind of wish it didn't have so much of the Fuzz--(I already have a Billy Sheehan overdrive pedal, which I don't even use) and I don't go for the SVT sound. So I feel as if some of the features are wasted on me. However, the versatility of being able to show up at any given situation with just the Fly Rig and no actual bass rig is pretty incredible.

    I just bought one of these. It’s a great one item in your got bag for the sounds you’ll want on a bass… analog compress, EQ, gain, chorus, and a tuner. One power plug. It’s got a loop too. I don’t need the octaver or fuzz but whatever.
    Love Tech21.

    it’s not cheap, but that is an insane amount of functionality and variety of tones in one box. and the fact that it’s all analog gives it a distinctly different sound and playing feel than your typical multi effect pedal.

    I had one of these for about 2 weeks now and I am still getting to know it. The knobs are very sensitive. It's a really well built pedal with a lot of options. The instruction manual really helps with some sample settings. I really like the idea of being all analog and being able to play around with the knobs. The Compressor and SansAmp section really sold me. The Comp add some fatness to the tone and the SansAmp EQ gives you lots of tonal options. The Chorus is simple and really expressive. The OctaFilter takes some time to understand, but once you do, it becomes really responsive. It's a fun pedal to have. Will I use all the effects often, probably not, but I like that they are there.

      I agree. I'm not a fan of reviews of gear when it's a first impression. Like they literally just plugged it in for the first time. I don't care about if it's easy to use. They can literally just explain if it is or not after having spent at least a few hours with it to get an idea of what it does. Although I'd prefer they take it home for a few days and get comfortable with it then review it.
      Pete does know what he's doing and it's helped a lot by Nathan who just jams along regardless of what he's doing. Dude is like a prototype someone built for a Bass Player or something. You could meet him in a bar and know after about 1 minute of talking to him.. That guys plays bass, without him ever mentioning it.

    5:40 Both channels are exactly the same, having two allows you to dial in two different settings and quickly switch between them. The "red" channel sounded "more gainy" becaused the corresponding drive knob was turned all the way up.

    I‘m still waiting for a modular bass effects system, where you can directly click the various units together to one. Like 10-15 most useful bass effects single units that you can plug in any order and amount…but more compact and only one power unit needed compared to a usual effects board. And you could extend it, if needed 😉

    Comp - ❤
    2 amp channels - ❤
    Tuner - ❤
    Footprint - ❤
    Chorus - fine
    Alright now let’s talk about the octave/fuzz/filter; I hate it. I wish it were just a two or three knob octave (dry, 1 down, 1 up) or slightly less useful for me but a two or three knob fuzz. I suppose it CAN be used as just an envelope filter but it doesn’t even seem very good at just that by itself.
    They’ve added a niche effect (a very specific synth bass sound) to an otherwise universally useful pedal.
    The insert point for the effects send/return is good for delay, reverb and even modulation but not ideal (for most) who want to add a fuzz/drive or dedicated octave pedal as typically I like those after the comp but before the amp. A switch that moved the insert point between the front of the “amp” or the “effects loop of the amp” would be great if they do a V3.

    • @poxcr
      @poxcr 2 месяца назад

      Wouldn't just placing the effects between the bass and the Flyrig accomplish the same as switching the loop to the front of the amp? And you would still have the loop to connect modulation effects after the drive section.

    • @JoePreacherLong
      @JoePreacherLong 2 месяца назад +1

      No it wouldn’t. When I said “amp” I put it in quotation marks because I’m referring to the EQ pre amp section of the pedal not an external amplifier.
      I want my signal flow to go tuner, comp, octave, fuzz, effects loop option 1, preamp, effects loop option 2, output.
      I don’t actually care much where the chorus lives the main point would be to get pedals after the tuner and comp but in front of the eq.
      Even cooler would be two sets of send and returns so you could do both.

      @@JoePreacherLong I see, kinda like a Jad Freer Capo. But that would be a $600 pedal :(

    • @JoePreacherLong
      @JoePreacherLong 2 месяца назад

      Yes but the JAD Freer is just a pre amp pedal, so I have no idea why it has a loop that goes in front of the pre amp/eq because as you stated initially, you can just run your pedals into the front of it.
      What makes the bass rig different is having effects built in. An effects loop after the preamp is totally normal and expected in a stand alone preamp pedal

  • @stevehillock3162
    @stevehillock3162 3 месяца назад

    Seems like an almost no fault all-in-one pedal. I especially like the 2 levels drive section which is exactly what we bass players mostly need, one to warm up the sound when needed and one to get really more drive when it rocks. But i think they made it wrong with the octafilter section. Seems you can't get a regular octaver but more like an envelop-filter one. It's ok if you want to go toward the synth field experience but not if you just need an extra sub boost / color. That's exactly why iI won't get it. Valeton Bass Dapper went more for a Boss OC-2 replica with their oct 1 and oct 2, but they got it all wrong on the drive part. Sonicake Boom Ave is kind of in between, has no real drive section but a good fuzz section and misses a tuner. Trace Elliot Transit B is quite fail imho, except for the 2-band compression and the blend drive. The M-Wave Tank B seems to rely more on the preset design and is still a mystery to me for the moment.

      It's about £100 more than a standard bass driver and it's got a good quality compressor, 2 switchable channels (3 including clean), a tuner, an octave and some chorus. Seems a pretty good deal to me and I'd never use the octave/synth/chorus sounds.
      If I was just setting out with my rig again I'd seriously consider this, but I already have comp, drive and tuner covered

    Maybe not the best idea to demo something designed to emulate an Ampeg into an Ampeg product?
    Also - bull-in-a-china-shop approach might work with a 2 knob overdrive but something more feature laden deserves to be considered before pressing record - with a bunch of stupid noises. And then releasing it.
    Unboxings are fine - but following up with a chimp-on-acid, on the controls, does any piece of gear a disservice.
    Have a think 1st, or at least stop wildly yanking the controls from 0-100%.
    Terrible video. And this from two guys that are really decent players. Having a laugh while you look at gear is fine, but who is going to be interested in a piece of gear that sounds like a swarm of bees being thrown down a long hill in an empty oil drum? Which it doesn't if you are methodical.

      You can make anything sound awful if presented by an over-caffeinated chimp and their dopey assistant.
      I know there are decent sounds in there - but they were too busy trying to be funny and rushing through every single control without stopping to consider what they were doing.
      The V1 of this pedal has an awesome setting (chorus+ filter) which is so epic I nearly bought it just for that. Instead we got the 100% gain setting and 'WTF does this do?' approach.
