      Reroofing in the next month. Researched and spoke to many in the industry. Tesla solar roof too expensive. Solar roof panels have many drawbacks, for example, when it starts leaking through anchors, not if; insurance premium increases and hidden excessive expense to remove and reinstall panels. If the laws would change to allow installing panels on a ground mount this would solve a lot of roof penetration and ugly issues (sorry roof panels are not pleasant looking).

      I agree mostly with what you say. Although it is encouraging to hear that Ford is going to go for small cars. I am especially interested in a small pick up truck. I currently have a Mazda B 2000, you know a little rice rocket from 1985. I don’t want to ever part with it except for an EV About the same size. I’m a pretty tall person and I’m in construction and I don’t want pick up truck high off the ground.

    Every country has their own traffic rules and uses but since none of these are programmed into FSD, every country will need its own FSD training. This means that looking at US FSD behaviour for Europe makes little sense. It also means that FSD will have to change when you pass a border.

    • @KaiHenningsen
      @KaiHenningsen Месяц назад +1

      On the other hand, FSD *could* change when you pass a border. Human drivers tend to have problems with that.
      Oh and also, the same is true for US state borders.

    • @cgamiga
      @cgamiga Месяц назад

      Yup, country-specific training is critical esp. for V12 now, as you can't program different traffic laws/behavior/signage etc.
      (it even varies a bit state to state in US, eg lane markings esp. exit lanes and gore sections, and also re passing lane rules etc)
      Luckily, Tesla is VERY good at changing behavior across borders already... drive into Canada, and it switches to metric km etc.
      It confused heck out of me driving east out of Grand Canyon in AZ, when .. I lost an hour! Realized that I had gone into Navajo nation land, and they DO observe Daylight savings, unlike AZ, so the clock switched! (also does other time zone changes heading east/west.) Dang smart.

    1:03 - Let's be real, Dillion, we're going to hear the exact same questions we hear every quarter on the conference call: 1) "Wen CT at 500k/year?!", 2) "Wen margins 150%?!", and 3) annual production guidance (which they still won't tell us). I'm being hyperbolic, but you get the idea. I'm pretty sure the Say questions just get copy-pasted at this point. I had high hopes when Say started, but it turns out the retail investors just want to ask the same questions the institutional investors already have been asking for years.

    I have been running 12.3 since Mid March. I live n Florida. I average around 20K miles a year on both Highway and rural roads. I also am not shy when I comes to reporting feedback. Once noticeable improvement is the much smoother handling of Roundabouts. Braking is smoother also. Cruise control has taken a step backwards. If you set a speed higher than the posted speed, you now must press the accelerator to get to that speed. Just turning the thumbwheel will no longer increase your speed over the posted speed. One note to all: DO A REBOOT OF YOUR CAR AFTER GETTING V12. i had a lot of crazy behavior until I rebooted after the upgrade.

    My Tesla solar roof bid went from 160k to 500k when Tesla decided to no longer install here in AZ. So ridiculous. Even at $45 per sqft that price is still $350k. I just got a premium concrete tile roof done for 60k. That would make the Tesla solar roof at least 3-4 times more than a premium roof after this new $45 per sqft and rebates. It would take a few lifetimes to recoupe.

    Dillon! Re solar...I thought it might be interesting to do a little comparison of installing solar panels/inverters in different countries (I've heard that it's much more expensive in the US, for some reason). In Australia, we were able to recently install a 6.5kw system (with inverter) for around $6.5 K AUD (which is around $4.3K USD), making it a no-brainer (we power our entire house + EV using our system, saving us thousands each year). That's without government subsidies, which are pretty hard to find these days, given Australia's phenomenal (world leading, per capita) installation of home rooftop solar installations. Would be interested to hear how much it costs to install rooftop solar systems around the globe!

    • @bryanwhitton1784
      @bryanwhitton1784 Месяц назад

      On a single story, composite shingle roof house a 6.5 kW system will be about $3.50/watt so about $22750.00 USD. This is in California and doesn't include any rebates or credits. We use REC and Panasonic modules and either Enphase or Solaredge inverters. The modules aren't the cheapest but aren't the most expensive either. We do Sunpower as well depending on what the customer wants and the price is adjusted accordingly.

    • @bryanwhitton1784
      @bryanwhitton1784 Месяц назад

      We probably couldn't get the modules for that price let alone the rest of the system. Actually the labor is probably more than that.

    Dillon, in response to your segment on Tesla solar roof i read in the comments section about the general high cost if rooftop pv installation in the US . I find it to be prohibitive for me. It is discouraging that we have the IRÁ and many states have additional incentives to defray costs and still it is beyond what many people can afford.
    Well meant policy incentives gone array due to poor implementation I’m guessing.
    The sad result of this is that the well off only get better off by reducing their dependence on grid energy suppliers while the less well off end up paying more to offset the revenue stream dry up, and the wealth gap widens. Maybe my logic is half baked, any thoughts?

    Dillon, my experience with the Tesla solar glass roof is as follows:
    I filled in the online preliminary quote form. The estimate was for about $45k.
    Waited almost 2 years to receive the official quote from Tesla (for a new build roof). When it finally came, the price was actually $145,000.
    I obviously went with a different roofing choice.
    8 months after the official contract for $145k, which I didn't sign, Tesla contacted me again. They informed me that they can actually honor the initial $45,000 price that the online tool quoted me (at that point) three years prior.
    Obviously, I wasn't about to rip out a brand new roof, that I spent tens of thousands of dollars for, to replace with Tesla solar glass.

    With regards to not being able to set behaviour due to lack of heuristic code. This is not really the case. When you training FSD, besides input from cameras and sensors, you can also feed in settings within the vehicle. This is how the assertive settings change the vehicle behaviour. Those settings don’t need to be onscreen, they could just be in a configuration file that is uploaded into the vehicle with different configurations being used for different countries / continents.

    About time NA companies revive / review small car market. Cars like the Geo Metro, Suzuki Swift, Toyota Yaris, Honda Fit, Ford Fiesta - all popular cars. I can't afford a Tesla. So 3 years ago, I had to settle for a Nissan Kicks. No one in central Canada was selling a smaller sub-compact. If China shows up with a fun little sub $30K econo box with 200 mile range, that would get my attention over a Tesla. The $20K cdn price difference between a sub-compact and a Tesla buys a lot of fuel. A lot. Those little cars are very fuel efficient.

    Dillon, am I right that you live in Salt Lake City? I live in Utah too, and am looking into getting a used Tesla. I’ve seen a few dealerships here that specialize in used Teslas. Wondering if you know any of them and can vouch for them?
