This was exactly what I was looking for, thank you so much! I think the compromise of the slightly lower resolution is worth it if it gets you the fullscreen car navigation experience in Google Maps and Waze. I hope Android Auto will give you the option in the future to switch between fullscreen car navigation mode and the 2 panel mode (navigation + music), while still utilizing the full native resolution of your car display.
@@crunkdotmaster Just ran the update. Still have the Tubes! (I actually prefer them.) I wonder if there's a setting to choose it? I didn't play around with it, but will check later.
There’s no setting. There may be something wrong with the update for the 2023 Carnival. If you look on the update page, the version number for the nav is an old one. Do you at least have the full screen Android Auto support now?
@@crunkdotmaster I don't know what "Full Screen" means as I just purchased it earlier this month--so I don't know what the old screen looked like, lol Mine looks just like yours though. (I don't want to mess with my display options under Dev settings)
Full screen AA was new to Kias with the April update. It means AA can utilize your entire screen... everything on screen would be coming from the phone. You need to make sure you have split screen turned off in the Kia phone projection settings. Before, you were locked in to 2/3 of the screen on Kias with wide screens no matter what. The only people who would go into developer settings are those who don’t understand how widescreen Android Auto works, or those who are desperate to have one single app take up the entire screen.
I have a 2022 sportage in Australia that I purchased in November. It was scanned about 2 or 3 weeks ago for a map update/infotainment update but the dealer said there was nothing there. Do we get all these updates far later in Australia compared to everyone else?
The schedule is sometimes different in different markets. Looks like the most recent navigation system update for Australia was in December 2022. update.kia.com/AU/EN/updateNoticeView/981#
Do you have an active Kia Connect subscription? That information comes from the weather information that’s provided by connected services. If you don’t have that, it may be why it’s not showing up.
I just got a 2023 Stinger and was planning on using Kia's navigation if I couldn't find a work around for AA to use the full screen in split view. Gonna have to try this in the morning and see if it works for me too.
Are you in North America and did you install the April navigation system update? If you didn’t, you’re not going to have the newest version that supports this.
@@crunkdotmaster Yeah I'm in Ohio and I literally just got the car this past weekend so everything should be up to date. I unchecked the box and plugged my phone back in and I still had the empty box on the right. Im sure I could lower resolution and just go full screen like you showed. I was just hoping to get split screen across the whole display.
If you just picked up the car, you most likely DON’T have the latest infotainment software, since it was released in the last six weeks (and your car came from across an ocean). You’d have to perform the update.
I have the new Sportage, I updated my car, Android Auto is now full screen, but whatever I do, I tried to lower the resolution to 720p, everything still looks the same (the resolution is worst but that's all)... When I lower it down to 800x600, Android Auto goes back to the old version, but only takes 2/3 of the screen... Can anyone help?
Use the tuning knob, or hit the left/right arrows on the screen, or use your steering wheel toggle switch, or push station list to see all available stations. All kinds of ways.
That just gets rid of the Kia interface and leaves an empty spot. The only way to tell the system to let Android Auto to take up the entire screen is to turn off split screen in phone projection settings, and it cannot be done on the fly. Phone must be disconnected.
I have the latest Kia update and have widescreen Android Auto. However this doesn't work for me when I try the hack to get the maps full widescreen. I have video resolution set to 1280x720 and it still shows the AA panel on the side (for music or time) :( Are you running android 12?
Free, yes. Over the air, no. You have to go to update.kia.com to get them. Future models appear to have OTA capability, but current and past models don’t.
Did you download the April 2022 navigation system update during the narrow window it was available (4/28-5/2)? If you didn’t get it during that time, it’s been unavailable due to server issues. Should be back after 5/12.
@@crunkdotmaster Awesome. Thank you for your response, John. Greatly appreciated. Unfortunately I missed the 1st window period. Hopefully, server should be up by this weekend. Without the work around, do you find picture quality to have improved? Android auto on my 2021 santa fe Ltd is not as sharp as carplay. Thank you.
I think it definitely looks better. Of course, I can’t go back in time to get screen shots of AA on the old software, but now if you leave Kia split screen on, it will send a 1280 x 720 signal, and if you go full screen, it’s 1920 x 720, utilizing all the pixels available on the screen. I am pretty sure it was artificially limited before, and I know I’ve seen people on 12.3” screens were complaining about the same and have seen that resolved.
Thank you!! The full screen workaround was what I was looking for! 👌

Don't understand why they just can't have the map full screen. Great video 👍
Exactly. There's really no reason, given the flexibility of Android. Sounds like (as usual) laziness on Google's part.
Do you know how to turn it off ?
Many thanks
Great video!
My 2023 Carnival has the tubes for my radio.
Probably because it has the previous version (Nov 2021). Sounds like you’d need to update.

Unfortunately unchecking the split screen Box didn't help it fill the screen on my Stinger. It still looked the same. Kind of sucks.

Can you project the android auto map to the heads up display ?
No, it only works with the Kia map. The CarPlay and Android Auto nav info won’t show up on the HUD.
When i uncheck it just keeps the android auto square, no full screen :/
Where are you, and have you installed the latest version of the navigation system software?
How about Android Auto Coolwalk update on this widescreen?
Guess we’ll find out once that starts rolling out!

I have the same issue - 2023 Kia Sportage PHEV
I can't even find the telluride update
The update has been temporarily unavailable for all cars with the Standard Gen5W navigation system for several days now. Check back later.

What is the difference from leaving as it originally was and close the second screen? Does that not give you the full view?
