I am amazed at this. What a gorgeous piece you have made. I've been watching epoxy designs and pours for about five years not. I love building and wood working .by spring I hope I have all my household construction done since I've been doing it all alone. Major construction. As Iook at all this I know once I put my kitchen back together one thing I know is I wAnt beautiful epoxy countertops . By the way this stuff is ages I'm a single almost 70 year old woman still enjoying these amazing things can't. Wait to use the skills and knowledge of all you've taught a very small town lady . Thank you so very much.

The table is absolutely fabulous. You did an amazing job. I also want to comment on your video about your process. Thank you for showing things not to do and that you made errors. Showing the errors helps others I believe and I think adds a unique over view to others. I learn from mistakes as well and appreciate you showing them in your clips. A lot of people do not do that and make it seem impossible when someone is trying to follow along. I give you Kudos for your video.

Thank you, Mary. I try to keep the process transparent. Although I'm always striving for perfection, its infrequently a perfect process. I hope my successes AND failures can be of value to not only myself, but others. Again, thank you and hope you stick around to see more!

Absolutely stellar build and edit! Being a third generation logger, Sawyer, and woodworker I deeply appreciate Zakk’s no frills, no ego, all work and emotion that goes into every project. You always take the time and attention to a new process to quickly (but thoroughly) master and improve upon its. Zakk you are making the woodworking video not just for those who enjoy watching, but one more other woodworkers. You are what RUclips viewers and more need to watch to really see and feel the trade, not the gassed up or diluted stuff that’s shoved into everyone’s feeds on here, IG and Tik Tok. Keep being amazing brother!

the table looks great. those legs... both the shape and the veneer rainbow... love. it. i haven't used colored veneers like that before. reminds me of the colored mdf i see people in the uk use a lot. i will def have to check them out.
i would love to see a video of yours with the rainbow board that looks less swirling and more like ink bleeding into each other... i saw it on your instagram. might be crayon and not ink? this is great too. i just have done epoxy like this (albeit in one color and not multiple) and not like the other so i am curious to see it being done. i also love it with the burl wood...
all so beautiful. and again, those legs ;)

Stunning. Recommended, you could of saved time and money by just opting to use electrical ribbon cables that come in all those colours. You would just need to use a router to make the slits and then slide in the ribbons, followed by a clear epoxy to pop them. No would know.

This is incredible, Zakk! Holy crap, that's a glorious, well thought out build! Obviously not without it's moments, but you were able to overcome them, and finish up with a phenomenal table! Also, great editing and narration, enjoyed the bid start to finish!

Fantastic video! It is so well shot and informative! Honestly, you made it look so easy from start to finish. I know the first rainbow lamination attempt wasn’t what you planned but I thought the wavy lines in there looked like you were on to something interesting. Do you think you could still use it in a future project? This table turned out absolutely fantastic. As I watched the last clips of the final table results I could not help but shake my head in disbelief of how beautiful this table turned out! Man you did great! Too bad this is the first video of yours I’ve seen because I would have LOVED to try to win this at auction for both the looks and the cause it was intended to serve. Bravo 👏🏽 ❤

Thank you so much for the kind words! The video didn't gain much traction until long after the auction had closed, unfortunately. I think in the future I may have to do a "for sale" on my website sort of listing when I have a project of this magnitude. I look forward to hearing what you think of future projects.

I was wondering how you got the swirls in it. Previous rainbow/coloured projects I have seen had used melted crayons to get the colours.

That is a gorgeous piece! Great work. Did you use SketchUp or any software to create the design/dimensions of the legs?

    • @thedoublekayway
      @thedoublekayway  Год назад

I did, yes. I used SketchUp to determine dimensions and splay. I didn't show that part as I figured it wouldn't be that desirable of content for this build, but I will definitely be showing it used in future projects. I often use it to rough mock up projects. Really helps determine what dimensions "feel" balanced.

I took a little hiatus from projects, now I'm finishing up a dining table commission, then I'm back on the YT horse. I'd say expect a video early spring, and then hopefully videos at a more frequent rate after that. If you've ever seen the "chaos" concept with cutting boards, imagine that, but MUCH bigger and cooler. The project will be 1 of 1.

Do you have access to like local walnut you can slab out personally from tree removal or buy separate. Just curious cuz the few videos I've just started watching I see you kinda just pull them from like storage corners. So I was just curious cuz I buy when I can but I live where walnut is super rare like 1-15,000 trees in at the absolute highest estimates. Run into the same exact problem with red cedar

I've never showed it in any of my videos (I have showed it on IG), but I have about 6000 BF of wood that I've bought over the years. I frequently pull from this stash for projects, but for something like this project where I was looking for a specialized material, I order it from out of state and have it sitting in the shop until the project starts. Long story short, I frequently buy wood in and out of state from suppliers - I do not harvest and mill myself.

What I have in value today definitely isn't what it takes to do the work, or do it well. I started off with a cheap black and decker drill and a used 1990's miter saw. I slowly built up my tool inventory. I've put back almost every dollar from projects into tools and supplies. If still curious though, I've got about ~$35-40k USD in tools / accessories.

on your bases. No reason you can't sand (and finish for that matter) prior to final assembly. A little fiddly to be sure, but better than hours of hand sanding.

    • @thedoublekayway

Although partly true, very inconvenient for this operation. With the glue up any misalignment or slip in the joint and it will have to be resanded. Not to mention the potential for sanding the area where the joints meet and compromising the fit...or having to round over the pieces after glue up. I appreciate the advice, but if I were to do it again, I'd still do it the way I did. Order of operations was HIGHLY considered when making these bases.

@@StoneyMeyerhoeffer 100%! I definitely appreciate the recommendation. I like seeing and hearing how others approach situations and tackle problems. I tell people all the time, the “right” way to do something, is the way that works to achieve the result desired (as long as it’s done safely).
