That demonstration of the detector unable to find the bottle of fines was freaky. Had some designers of these machines squirming a bit I'm betting. Time in on the unit and good practices seem to be the key elements. Good stuff. ✌

The top of the coil does the same, so basically it’s a sphere around the centre.
I knew that. What I didn’t know was fine gold concentrate won’t read.
    Thanks for the invaluable information.

The cut foam is a great way to demonstrate coil depth effectiveness. So much better than a diagram. I was shocked at your swing speed demonstration with the fast swing. I know I sometimes when I have low confidence that I wander around and swing quickly. Talk about a self fulfilling prophecy.

Hi Gary, I think I can explain why the nugget is easily picked up and the flakes are not. It's the magnetic field. When whole, it creates a strong field. But the pieces wont create as strong. Let's use the earth as an example. It's fairly big, and creates a pretty good size field. But Jupiter, is much bigger and creates a huge field. But mars, much smaller, doesnt create one even as big as earth. An asteroid, just passing by, creates very little. Bigger the target the stronger the field is. Each individual piece creates it's own field. They cannot link together to form a bigger one. So when your putting the bottle of fine under the detector, it's only picking up a magnetic field from the closest pieces. Hope that makes sense.

    • @NorCalNeel
      @NorCalNeel Год назад

I heard it was the molecules of the target dancing from frequency wave of the metal detector. The detector probably reads the big dance instead of a bunch of little dancers, just a thought

Good video Gary. Good evidence of its not the size of the bait that catches the fish...So much as how you wiggle the worm! My first nugget was a specimen, the signal was weird, in my hand there was a square nail, a boot tack and a one gram nugget. Taught me to dig every target.

The reason why it won't pick up say 1/2 OZ of gold fines but will find 1/2 Oz gold nugget is the coil sees every target individually
I notice this from beach detecting, when I find gold chains its because there joiner is big enough to break the threshold or it has a pendant on it

I’ve been watching a number of different prospectors RUclips channels and hands down I learn more from a single one of your videos than watching 10 or more of the others combined! I loved your visual demonstration to show the field of your detector in all three dimensions! Just brilliant and done in a way that makes it crystal clear to anybody watching. This video alone was definitely a gem as far as useful information goes.
I’m curious if adding a small amount of salt water to the jar of fine gold would do anything to Help join all of the magnetic field from the individual bits of gold together into a more detectable single field…?
Salt water is a very good electrical conductor but I’m not sure if it would have any effect on the magnetic side of the whole electromagnetic theory..? Would be an interesting little experiment to do a demonstration about.
You’ve reinforced the method I’ve made for myself for a planned path to hopefully successful metal detecting for gold. All along I’ve wanted to experiment first at home with targets (bits of gold jewellery and tiny pickers if I can source some somewhere) and just learn how to balance and operate my detector and learn exactly what sounds I’m listening for so I’m familiar with those before I ever even attempt to use a detector out in the field. I believe it’s almost certainly a recipe for failure to just go straight out with a detector before fully familiarizing oneself with it first instead of trying to learn on the fly out the field.
I bought what I think is the best detector that my budget would support which is a Turkish unit made by Nokta Makro called the Gold Kruzer.
It’s a VLF Detector that’s waterproof to 10 feet that operates at 61 kHz with four search modes and is fully adjustable in every way.
It comes with two elliptical double D waterproof search coils. It’s not a simple detector that has everything already dumbed down for the beginner so I’m thinking that it’s going to be a bit challenging to learn how to operate but I’m certain that with everything you have helped me learn so far that I will be able to get myself over that hill and learn how to use it in an effective way with some determined effort on my part.
Thank you for your straight forward, no nonsense and extremely informative videos Sir. I appreciate you and your videos more than anybody’s on RUclips!
I can’t wait to let you know how I’m making out with my detector when I get out into the field with it on my planned trip to the Caribou region of British Columbia.
Thnx again and keep up with your wonderful videos!

Great video, Gary! The reason the detector hits the nugget and not the bottle of small gold is due to the mass or density. The nugget is one solid piece of gold while the fine gold is porous. So the signal from the detector hits the solid nugget and reflects back to the detector where the signal passes through the fine gold and reflects very little. Think of the nugget being a flat piece of metal and the small gold being a fine screen. If you pour sand on the flat metal you will get a pile. This is like the signal from the coil and that is what reflects back. But, pouring sand on a screen, most of it will pass through while very little reflects back to the coil. Hope this helps!
