I am left handed. A stroke took my left hands rhythm. Thanks for being you.

Also remember, left handed people (me) also have a dominant left foot, so kick drum is significantly harder with my right foot meaning any playing on a right handed kit just doesn’t work (for me). Thanks for remembering us! You are THE BEST ❤🎉

You can train it, I play double bass drum, and practice rigt hand right foot lead, right hand left foot leading, right foot left hand leading, left foot left hand leading, this develop a good coordination and open to new possibility

@@lorislaruedrummer6739 you can train anything but it’s not natural. That’s the point. Left handed people have a dominant left hand and foot. We shouldn’t be forced to fit right handers designs. We also shouldn’t be charged extra or have less options than righties either but we are.

@@ZoeSummers1701A I would disagree, I have left handed students, and I'm really forcing them to learn on a right handed kit, cause as a drummer you will eventually share a drumkit that's not yours, it's way more convinient to play as a right handed drummer, it may take a little bit more time, yet, they usually are my best students, and they're not "try-hard", the inconvinience is in the 3 first month of learning, after it's not noticeable, yet if you learned to play left handed, you're good for a lifetime of inconviniences every time you go to a practice space or worse, in a live situation

I left handed. Started playing open handed. After 5-7 years switched to right handed. Then after about 10 years after that, I started doing both. Now after 45 years of playing, I ambidextrous and have rides on both sides of me. One is dry dark and pingy and the other is a bit more washy and brilliant.

I do both mirrored and open handed. My left foot doing the kick pedal along with my left hand doing the snare makes more sense to my brain.

my first tutor in primary years forced me to learn right handed. It took AGES!
His argument was, "You're not going to be the only drummer using a 15minute change over to swap the whole kit for a 30minute set".....i guess he was right

Lol im right handed, but i play open handed with additional toms on my left, to accommodate my fills. And a added note, i have better control with my left foot than my kick foot😂

If you're left handed then look for the beatles drummer Ringo Star who played left handed on a right handed positioned kit

Been playing for near 15 years lLearnt left handed but swapped to right as school house kits were all right handed. Now in s gigging band with my own kit, gonna swap back to left as some of the more complex grooves and fills are being thrown off massively from the left hand lead issue.

many have no clue about left handed drummers, and the difficulty we need to go through, we end up with BAD habits , continuing to lead with your right hand when you set drum left handed

I'm right-handed, but I'm left-footed! I play open-arm right on a left-handed kit. For me, the foot arrangement dictated policy. An issue is where does the ride go? I've had it in the middle, which can be a bit exhausting, and just over the Hi-hat, which can cause a bit of a collision.

I'm a lefty but played right handed from the outset as I knew gig, rehearsal kits and lessons would be more readily available that way.

I play left handed open handed, with more cymbals and a floor tom on the left, but keep the kick drum on the right as I'm right foot dominant. It's a mess.

Everyone learning to play the drums should be taught to play with their right. It's most convenient. And, if you're just starting out, you're playing is going to be trash either way so you might as well learn to play right-handed.
