I was playing these grooves wrong forever, then have been hung up on the grace notes before accents and the “not flamming” parts. Thanks for the detail and the suggested exercise. Awesome!

Some local blues guitarists have invited me over and said "no drummers really know how to play a shuffle, that I've met anyway". So I'm drilling shuffles like crazy and you've just spelled out exactly how to make friends. That last one looks like a lot of fun.

50 years ago Bernard Purdie was 34 years old and playing playing the Purdie Shuffle.
50 years ago Jeff Porcaro was 20 years old and no doubt playing halftime shuffles. “Rosanna” was released 42 years ago.
