One of my favourite of Mark's many songs, brilliant band behind him, particularly Danny Cummins on drums
The version they played in Milano 2005 was amazing !
So great to see people who recognize the genius that Mark Knopfler is.
Let's give some credit to the amazing Emmy Lou Harris for joining Mark on this song, album and the World Tour. She is a superstar in her own right!
This was probably the best song in a concert that was full of "best" songs. I remember just sitting open-mouthed as it came to an end. With Emmmylou Harris there, the blend of voices is nothing short of spectacular. There are so many good songs from this recording, but this - for me, at least - is far and away the best. It's musicianship, composing, lyric writing, and stage presence at its finest. And that's a difficult thing to say about a concert that was full of absolutely first-class music. I have no words to say just how hard this piece hits - I can't even say exactly why. Perhaps, having been a "journeyman" professional musician myself, I know that occasionally - even with very good artists - there are moments when everything comes together perfectly. For me, ,this song is one of those times. I've heard it played in other concerts, other venues, with many of the same musicians. But this performance just stands out above all the rest. Thank you.
Emmy Lou Harris is a very well known American country singer, so theres the American.
Mark Knopfler is a GENIUS, no other word for him.
Very well done again ❤
Mark Knopfler has always liked the world of motor sports
The first time you hear Emmylou Harris sing like a bird you will swoon and faint to the pure beauty of her voice!
2:10 Gotta love it...right off the bat, this song hooks EVERYBODY who hears it into the beat!
Hello, I'm glad you loved my song request.
Seeing Dominika's extatic smile during the outro was my goal.
Cheers 😘
I absolutely loved it 💚
Emmylou is right up there with Dolly and Linda. This song details an entire season of Indycar racing, and your video wonderfully shows the magical effect of grooving to Mark Knopfler's music. Peace.
Emmy Lou is a national treasure. Check it out.
We named our youngest daughter after Emilou Harris. We were moving to New Orleans when I got out of the US Navy and we wanted something for her that "Sounded French," so we named her Emily Louise and call her Emilou. (She just blessed us with twin grandsons!) Listen to her sing "Evangeline" with The Band on their "Last Waltz." That was when we really fell in love with her!
I love the final musical sequence! 🤩 Another suggestion could be Silvertown Blues
Can I recommend "This Is Us" from the same concert/album? It's Mark and Emmylou playing the roles of a married couple reminiscing about joys they've experienced as they look back through an old photo album. As a couple yourselves I think you'll enjoy it.
Heard this live so many times including on that Emmylou tour. It’s my favourite Mark solo track. The story in the words then the winning race in the solo. Beyond epic!
And yes. He’s dressed just like my dad is. 😂
That playout at the end is simply awesome live. Feeling it wash over you, evoking cars racing around a track is some experience.
@timjones9727 - YESSSS! I got that too! He brought us along for that perfect ride.
That's not just anybody that's Emmylou Harris, famous in her own right, yeah it's about racing but the harmonies and Mark's guitar ...damn.
Great reaction to another one of my many favorites from Mark...and this whole album that he and Emmy Lou did together is fantastic! Yes it is the story of someone's season of racing all around the the US as many race tracks are mentioned. I liked your comment again about Mark's voice. He never liked his own voice and it has always felt to me that he is a 'reluctant' singer, ironic as his voice has such a warmth and richness to it that people love it! Do make it a priority to visit the US sometime, and spend a couple of months driving all over the nation, especially the vastness of the American West! Cheers!
Guys, please do "So Far From The Clyde" next. Easily Mark's top 5 most beautiful song, and that including Dire Straits years.
Beautifull song ..another masterpiece of Mark solo is the mix :”father and son -hillfarmers blues “that he play in his concert ..absolute amazing
Emmylou Harris sounds like an angelic song bird! No one sings like Emmylou ever nor will they. Her and Linda Ronstadt are the very top.
Great reaction! I haven't heard this song before, and it's incredible. Oh, and Emmylou Harris is an absolute legend. 🥰
Mark Knopfler + Gibson Les Paul = 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I love how Mark brings together different styles and genres of music.
You hit the nail on the head, great!
The two of you are great music commentators. Keep up the good work. Fun to hear. I have been a huge Knopfler fan my whole life and have seen him several times!
Thanks for reviewing this absolutely beautiful and exhilarating song from Mark"s "Sailing to Philadelphia " album..his guitar playing and the accompanying music is mind-blowing in this song..you must check out the title song of this album too which is a beautiful duet with James Franklin and is basically a piece of history wrapped up in heavenly music..other MK solo suggestions:"Silvertown Blues" from the same album, "Boom Like that", "Border Reiver", "Don't Suck me in".
James Taylor if I'm not mistaken....excellent song!
Never heard this before and I loved it. Thank you. Your Dire Straits reactions are my favorite reactions from you.😊
Incredible version of an amazing song. You have to check out Tom Jones and Mark Knopfler live. "Feel Like Going Home. Amazing song.
Well now THAT'S a pairing you don't see/hear every day! Def gonna look that one up.
A fantastic performance from Mark and Emmylou Harris, the outro is stunning, there are lots more great performances from this concert.
That wasn't just an outro...that was the final race at Nazareth!
First time I heard this song I was driving with my wife to cedar key for vacation. Before I knew it I was going 90 miles an hour. She said slow down but I didn't want to.
great album Sailing to philadelphia the second solo album , also the title song of the album its good with james taylor and what it is ,
I've said it once I'll say it again, all you ever need in life is Mark knopfler on the 58 👌🏼
Not sure if anyone else has told you this but Mark is actually left handed
He played a right handed guitar because that’s was what his Dad bought him
Bloke is a legend
Try to find his song called Big River , he performs it with an actor/ singer called Jimmy Nail , the song is about the River Tyne from their youth , as an exiled Geordie about the same age as the two of them I nearly cried the first time I heard it 👍👍
The first album that turned me onto Mark's solo career was " Golden Heart," which i can't recommend enough. Every song is a story with brilliant guitar playing. I have never looked back and wait with baited breath for his next album to drop .
Mark always the storyteller 😅
Thank you for this reaction, i believe this song is one of the most Dire Straits-like songs of all MK solo career, with a great solo at the end, that´s why is a fan favorite. From that same concert you should react to “Our Shangri-La”, it is just amazing. The best performance of that concert imho
I love you two!!
The Race Car Curcuit has many famous Race Tracks in many cities across North America where the drivers go to race each other in competitions.
a night in summer long ago live next ;) best love song ever
My favorite Mark and EmmyLou song is “I dug up a diamond”. Check it out
The song is about oval track racing, that's why it made you think about driving 🙂
El dios de la guitarra mark Knopfler
You should listen this song to live ! Mark Knopfler and Emmylou Harris Our Shangri -la is very nice too !
I love country music, in fact I can enjoy most kinds of music but not rap, this has a good sound to it, thank you for your reaction her voice compliments his nicely
Mark was inspired to write this song by his good friend, Stefan Johansson’s Formula 1 Racing battles. I understand that Mark is a big fan of car racing. If you listen to many of Mark’s songs his voice also creates an emotional connection to his lyrics. Also, please check out Hill Farmer’s Blues Live at Cordoba. I❤MK
Mark drives (and owns) a Maserati and an Alpha competing in historic racing at places like Goodwood. I saw him sharing the driving with Stirling Moss at one event.
Could you guys do a song called 'why aye man' mark knopfler. Im sure you guys would love it. You guys are cool 😊😊😊
Might be worth looking up the TV series "Auf Wiedersehen, Pet" before listening to it, to really get a handle on the lyrics. 😃
Fabulous
Get to the USA it’s such a beautiful country! Especially the small towns and biggest cities! I’ve been to many and can never get enough!👌🏻🤘🏻 great songs can do that to you!💨 great voices and guitar but what changes this song and gives it that American feel is when that fiddle kicks in!
hello from Belgium I advise you to listen to Hils Farmer Blues by Mark Knopfler Cordoba live you will love it good listening Jluc Biz
The song is actually based on the 1994 CART racing season. The circuit changed the sequence of races every year and the only year that went from Phoenix to Monterrey in the order described in the song was 1994. CART did the Indy 500 until 1996. There were no reported serious injuries in the 9 crashes during 1994 Indy race, but in 1995 Stan Fox was critically injured. Knopfler got much of his background information from Swedish racer Stefan Johansson who ran the CART circuit from 1992 until it folded in 2003. Johansson had a successful CART racing career even though he never won a race. I agree the song has allegorical implications, as do many other Knopfler songs.
Easily the best song ever about automobile racing. BTW Nazareth Pennsylvania is the home of Mario Andretti, but the speedway is gone.
Guys, come on, react to Going Home!
Your reaction will trigger the rest of Internet!
Check out there “All the Road Running”. You will not be disappointed!
Ive heard this song a billion times. The whole album is unbelievably good
Better enjoying the Santa Barbara Bowl 2019 performance.
