My son, less than a week old, with a fever and screaming non-stop, late at night. One of the late shows was on and Emmylou, Dolly, and Linda started singing "After The Gold Rush". Could have been the hormones, but at that moment their voices were the most beautiful thing I had ever heard. Tears running down my cheeks, I watched to the end and when I glanced down my little baby son was out cold. I've always wanted to thank them for that.😊
Emmylou has the best voice. She was my dad’s favorite singer. I suggest From Boulder to Birmingham; it will get you right in the feelings. She wrote it after Gram Parsons died.
Emmylou cut an album with Mark Knopfler (Dire Straits), worth checking out. Besides the album, they released a concert DVD which is very well recorded and filmed.
She’s probably my favorite female country artist of all time. Having said that, “Til I Can Gain Control Again” is her best song. “Boulder To Birmingham” a close second.
The story in the song "Red Dirt Girl", is one of the saddest stories ever sung! Still, it's worth the tears to listen. Emmylou is a national treasure! Cheers\=/\=/
Try Emmylou & Gram Parsons early 1970s recordings (1st Country/Rock Music) like the Eagles! I met Emmylou in 1972 at a party when she was about 17 in Woodbridge Virginia (before Gram discovered her) she was playing at a club in Bethesda Maryland at that time. Her dad was a Marine Corps Officer stationed at Quantico and lived in Woodbridge not far from Hoadly in Prince William County where my Cousin Ronnie and myself had a 'Snake Ranch' after we came back from Vietnam.. Emmylou is a Legend today :)
Boulder To Birmingham, Hello Stranger, Easy From Now On, To Daddy, Too Far Gone, Pancho and Lefty, Red Dirt Girl, C'est La Vie, Two More Bottles Of Wine, Tougher Than the Rest, One Of These Days, Born To Run, Making Believe, Together Again, and If I Could Only Win Your Love are amazing by the Goddess of Country Music, Ms. EmmyLou Harris ❤❤❤❤❤❤
I've been listening to this lady for over 50 years, from the moment I heard her singing duet harmony with Linda on "I Can't Help It (If I'm Still in Love with You)." I've been to see her five times, the most recent of which was late 2022 with my wife. It was our last concert together - I lost my wife just one year ago. Emmylou was one of the artists I could play anytime and Darlene would drop what she was doing and walk over to hug me. We had so many wonderful hours just listening, and sometimes dancing, to Emmylou through 45 years of marriage. Those memories are eternal treasures. And every song mentioned in the comments below is a worthy listen, but I'll give a special mention to Wayfaring Stranger.
I agree. Even better would be to do a reaction to that entire movie, THE LAST WALTZ. They have already done their reaction to “The Weight”, with The Band and The Staples. One of the best concert movies of all time. And also tells the story of The Band.
Another great balad cover is Emmylou singing - Together Again from 1976 on the TV Show -TOPPOP: Emmylou Harris - Together Again ( Live ) on RUclips. Cannot get more traditional old Country....
OMG - gonna CRY before I even WATCH!!! :) LOVE EMMYLOU HARRIS!! Such a very sweet voice - she, Dolly, & Linda made such a GREAT FORCE, TOGETHER!! Can't wait to see your reaction to this one!! HUGS!
OMG. Finally, some more Emmylou! One of the very best voices in the industry. Forgot to mention Linda Ronstadt used to say Emmylou's voice was like "cracked crystal". Beautiful.
Emmylou is the real deal and as authentic as they come. There's a reason she and Dolly and Linda made such beautiful music together. They were birds of a feather. Thanks for sharing this one. 🙂
So happy you brought back the great Emmylou! Born To Run, Two More Bottles of Wine, Love Hurts (with Gram Parsons), Do I Ever Cross Your Mind (with Dolly & Linda), Where Will I Be, Red Dirt Girl, Boulder to Birmingham. She has such a long, deep, varied discography to explore and has sang with so many legends. Please keep listening.
You should definitely include EmmyLou in your Female Friday reactions. As someone who was stuck in a loveless, unhappy marriage, I loved her song, "One of These Days," and "To Daddy." They gave me hope that one day I would be free.
Some others you might check out: Beneath Still Waters, Blue Kentucky Girl, Save The Last Dance For Me, Two More Bottles Of Wine...and, of course, the trio she sang with in the soundtrack to O Brother Where Art Thou: she, Alison Krauss and Gillian Welch sang Didn't Leave Nobody But The Baby....just an INCREDIBLE VOICE - and, SO PRETTY, TOO! :)
Once you start looking for Emmy Lou, you will find her everywhere. Not only is she a great artist on her own, she sings harmony with so many of the best. Beautiful voice. Thanks!
Something you may like, look for Emmylou Harris, Willy Neilson, and Daniel Lanois preforming "The Maker" it is a Daniel Lanois song, he is another Canadian artist on his own, but has also a world class producer, of many great artists and albums. U2, Emmilou, Willy Neilson, Peter Gabriel, many more.
Early in her career she had found a great singing partner, Gram Parsons. She was touring with him and started to make a name for herself. Unfortunately, he died suddenly from a heroin overdose. Emmylou was devastated and depressed. Linda Ronstadt took her under her wing and brought her to live with her in L.A. Linda coaxed her out of her dark place and got her some connections to restart her career and the rest is history. She has said Linda is an exceptional human being and she’ll be forever in her debt. They remain great friends. I strongly recommend that you check out “The Sound of my Voice” either on your movie channel or just for your own enjoyment. It’s a fascinating trip through Linda’s career and musical journey. Love you guys 🌺✌️
My dad would see Emmylou Harris play at some bar in DC in probably 1970 when she wasn’t famous and he said there were probably 2 other people there. He never said he completely fell in love with her 100% unattainable and amazing self - but I am CERTAIN it happened.
I am very happy to see J n A finally do Emmy! I agree with all the other suggestions from her I've seen. One I didn't see that is not very well known but will grip you to the core. A song that sad yet full of hope at the same time. Red Dirt Girl.
This is from her third album in 1976. She can't be confined to one genre, she explored and mixed a lot of them throughout her career (which still goes on). One of a kind, unique voice too.
Emmy started out as total folk artist. Then Gram Parsons got her singing what he called "Cosmic American Music". Wish y'all would react to Emmylou and Gram doing LOVE HURTS or "Boulder to Birmingham" (She is from Birmingham, BTW) is a song written by Emmylou Harris and Bill Danoff which first appeared on Harris's 1975 album Pieces of the Sky. It has served as something of a signature tune for the artist and recounts her feelings of grief in the years following the death of country rock star and mentor Gram Parsons. She was also one of the first of the County Rock genre along w/ Gram and of course the Eagles.
I suggested this one a LONG time ago - thrilled that you finally got to it! Just an amazing song - Emmylou has one of the most beautiful voices of all time!
Grew up on Emmylou! She sings backing vocals on a song by Ryan Adams (not to be confused with Bryan Adams) called "Oh My Sweet Carolina" from his "Heartbreaker"album that's definitely worth checking out. Ryan has worked with some big names like Willie Nelson, Gillian Welch and Sheryl Crow. Has a rock/folk/country vibe to his tunes. I think you both would dig his style!
For a twist, listen to Bob Dylan's "Desire" album, Emmylou's backing vocals are all over that album. Her work with Gram Parsons is legendary. For some more of her solo work, I suggest the studio version of "Red Dirt Girl." One of her finest, imo.
I have fallen in love with Emmylou Harris over the last few years! "Luxury Liner" is a great album and a top 5 all-time favorite album is her "Cimarron" album. Her song "Born to Run" has an interlude that resembles a train also in it (which I recommend the song also) but I LOVE "If I Needed You" duet with Don Williams and her cover of "Pancho and Lefty!" She's coming to Massachusetts soon and I might be going!
Oh, I love Emmylou! She's one of the best! Check out First Aid Kit! They are 2 sisters from Sweden, and they made Emmylou cry when they sang for her. Take care 🙂
Emmy Lou is a traveling musician, she often backs up legends. Neil Young, James Taylor, and others. She is also is a big part of the " Oh Brother Where Art Thow" harmonizing with Allison Krauss.
Two More Bottles of Wine is wonderful song by her. Also, any of the collage she did with Dolly Part in and Linda Ronstadt. She also sings on several songs with The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band album Will The Circle Be Unbroken, volume II.
I've always liked her singing "To Daddy" which is a Dolly Parton penned song and Dolly later recorded it was well but Emmylou asked Dolly if she could cut the song and Dolly said yes.
Another great early one by Emmylou is, "Gram Parsons, "Return of the Grievous Angel, with Emmylou Harris" (recorded 1973) Just like many people, I wonder if they were in love. There is also a great version of this tune that Emmylou did later w/ Ryan Adams.
I love Emmylou and have been a fan for a long time, but I find this song to be kind of dull. Check out Two More Bottles of Wine, Save the Last Dance for Me, Even Cowgirls Get the Blues, so many others. I think you also know her as part of Trio with Dolly Parton and Linda Ronstadt.
I own all of Emmylou's music and have seen her live 35x. She is often referred to as the Godmother of Americana music. She has some songs that rock also.
I met her once and Willy was right. Please check out her iconic Boulder to Birmingham , she wrote about her mentor Gram Parsons, and Poncho and Lefty, A great Townes Van Zant song. There are sooooo many, 13 grammys!!!
Check out Evangeline from The Band's The Last Waltz. Emmylou sings along with Rick Danko and Levon Helm, Robbie plays guitar, and Richard drums. It is pure perfection.
There's never been a singer and a backup band that blended together than Emmylou and her Hot Band. Her musicians were terrific, however they knew she was the star and they were there to compliment her. That's what made them, and her, truly great. You won't hear anything like this today.
“Sweet Old World” - Emmylou with Neil Young backing harmonies. This song is so beautiful it brings me to tears every time. Great on her own, Emmylou is a master of duet harmonies. Must check out duets with Gram Parsons. “Love Hurts” might be the best. Also, there’s a fabulous duet with Beck covering a Gram Parsons song on a Tribute to Gran Parsons album. The song is called “Sin City”. It’s a real gem. Pick any one of these songs, and you’ll be blown away.
Emmy Lou is beautiful, a country legend and my favorite female country artist. Her rendition of Buck Owens' Love's Gonna Live here Again is absolutely beautiful and my favorite of all her great songs.
You have listened to her before along with Dolly and Linda Ronstadt in one of the songs from Trio. Then they recorded another album with Trio 2. Absolutely fabulous voice she has.
The pureness of her voice has made her one of the most fatures background/backup singers ever. She has probably appeared on more recordings as a featured artist for more performers than anyone ever...not only in country but rock as well. If you made a list of every song she's appeared on, she would be one of the most recorded voices of all time.
Hey guys, I only recently discovered your channel, I'm really enjoying it. I am not sure if you I have to donate to request a song. I don't seeen any information about requirements to do a request. So, I am going to take a shot in the dark and request a song anyway. I would like to see you react to a couple of songs from an album titled, Modern of country and western music, by Ray Charles, especially, " I Can't Stop Loving You " and " You Don't Know Me. ." Ray was told this album would ruin his career, he did it anyway and followed up with a second one. Instead of ruining his career it introduced a lot of new fans to him. Thank you so much for what you are doing.
Not one of my favorites of Emmylou’s but it does showcase her beautiful and dynamic voice, and her artistic abilities as a great musician = acoustic guitar. BTW…I have rich family ties in Tulsa! I get there a few times a year💕🎶😊
I've been a fan of hers since the late 70's. She had real hand in appreciating Country music. Before, that genre had been my parent's music (you know, forced to listen to on long road trips). A voice like an angel. And with Linda & Dolly? Nothing better!
This is the perfect opportunity to suggest (for Female Friday) the sister act from Sweden called FIRST AID KIT, and their beautiful song called "Emmylou". There is even a version of it live here on RUclips where they are singing it to Emmylou Harris herself, and they bring her to tears. I HIGHLY SUGGEST you check it out! Link: ruclips.net/video/Hi5A9OCAyIk/видео.htmlsi=JMMeaymeW2OXbwyf
Oh wow, someone actually reacting to Emmylou singing this song. This is my very favorite song by her. But now that I'm listening to this version, which isn't the studio version, I'm really missing that haunting harmonica accompaniment.
Anything from her album Roses in the Snow is top shelf bluegrass you will Love and show cases her vocal abilities! Johnny Cash, Linda Ronstadt, Willie Nelson are on this record with her!
YES!!! I think I suggested this song from Emmylou back when you guys first started. There is a live version of this song she performed on a show called The Old Grey Whistle Test with Albert Lee and Rodney Crowell on guitars but you guys might not can use that video. I met Emmylou at a meet & greet after one of her shows a few years ago. She was so nice. She was born in Birmingham, AL and I live in Huntsville, AL and she was telling me she has family that lives in my area. I hope to see her in concert again soon.
Hi. I just found you by watching your reaction to "Joey" by Concrete Blonde, one of the most influential songs of my life. Seeing the compassion and care you put out there is truly meaningful to me, and you've just gained a sub. Thank you for being good humans.
A top tier musician's musician who has always had super ridiculous bands (she basically shared Elvis' band for a while). She has mentored and shone a light on many, many other artists like Steve Earle, Rodney Crowell, Ricky Skaggs, and on and on and on.
Willy Nelson once said, “There are two kinds of men. Those who are in love with Emmylou Harris, and those that haven’t met her.”
She did a sweet of "Poncho and Lefty" with Willie
How does any man NOT love Emmylou?
Emmylou is classic country. She had a supergroup trio with Dolly Parton and Linda Ronstadt. Their voices blend so well.
I've always wanted to thank them for that.😊
I love Emmylou Harris but she isn't classic country lol
I love that steel guitar also. The solo enhances the song and doesn't take away from her singing😊
Jay and Amber have reacted to the Trio, a couple of times. You should check those out.
@@goldenboy140 What are you talking about?!?!? Emmylou is about as country as you could get!!! She has an amazing voice!!! You sir are so misguided!!!
Emmylou has the best voice. She was my dad’s favorite singer.
I suggest From Boulder to Birmingham; it will get you right in the feelings. She wrote it after Gram Parsons died.
❤ Her beautiful voice is like Folk meets Country meets Bluegrass. Always have loved her. ❤
Emmylou cut an album with Mark Knopfler (Dire Straits), worth checking out. Besides the album, they released a concert DVD which is very well recorded and filmed.
Great stuff.
Especially the song "This is us". Absolutely brilliant.
All The Road Running is the name of the album. Great album.
You got me at Emmylou Harris.
She’s probably my favorite female country artist of all time. Having said that, “Til I Can Gain Control Again” is her best song. “Boulder To Birmingham” a close second.
I love Boulder to Birmingham. ❤

Emmylou is a Legend today :)
Emmylou was 25 in 1972...
Don't forget: Emmyloiu Harris, Linda Ronstadt, and Dolly Pardon were a "Trio" together on an album of the same name
They made 3 albums
Boulder To Birmingham, Hello Stranger, Easy From Now On, To Daddy, Too Far Gone, Pancho and Lefty, Red Dirt Girl, C'est La Vie, Two More Bottles Of Wine, Tougher Than the Rest, One Of These Days, Born To Run, Making Believe, Together Again, and If I Could Only Win Your Love are amazing by the Goddess of Country Music, Ms. EmmyLou Harris ❤❤❤❤❤❤

❤️💔❤️🙏🏾
My husband and I walked down the aisle to her and Don Williams' If I needed you". She has the voice of an angel
Everything Emmylou Harris does is great. Bob Dylan called her the Nightingale of country music.
Love Emmylou Harris! I strongly suggest you check out "Evangeline" by her with The Band.❤ Please!
I agree. Even better would be to do a reaction to that entire movie, THE LAST WALTZ. They have already done their reaction to “The Weight”, with The Band and The Staples. One of the best concert movies of all time. And also tells the story of The Band.

Emmylou is the real deal and as authentic as they come. There's a reason she and Dolly and Linda made such beautiful music together. They were birds of a feather. Thanks for sharing this one. 🙂
Emmylou's cover of Simon and Garfunkel's The Boxer is one of my favorites.
So happy to have seen Emmylou live. Way back in the late 70's. She was stunning and sounded as good live as her studio work. ✌
So beautiful in voice, looks and spirit
I also absolutely love her cover of "Pancho and Lefty".
100% agree. I think it's the very best version, even better than Townes Van Zandt's or Merle and Willie's
Her cover of the Townes Van Zandt song inspired Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard to do it as well.
That's the song that made me a fan over 45 years ago. I'm still a fan - my absolute favorite artist.
Jay & Amber, you'll love her cover of Delbert McClinton's "Two More Bottles of Wine" !! Bluesy.
edit- She's 76 and still performing this year.
That's one of my favorites! There's a great video of Emmylou and Delbert singing it together.
Emmylou is my favorite country singers but she also does folk, Americana and rock. Once voted top 10 most influential women in country and rock.
Now THIS is REAL country music! Most contemporary country music, I call rural pop!
You should definitely include EmmyLou in your Female Friday reactions. As someone who was stuck in a loveless, unhappy marriage, I loved her song, "One of These Days," and
"To Daddy." They gave me hope that one day I would be free.

I fell in love with her in the 70s. Seen her live twice. We've had the perfect music/listener relationship ever since. ♥
Ooooo - one I forgot to list - so good!
Here's a vote for "Red Dirt Girl"
This is from her third album in 1976. She can't be confined to one genre, she explored and mixed a lot of them throughout her career (which still goes on). One of a kind, unique voice too.
Another song about Oklahoma you should react to is “You’re the Reason God Made Oklahoma” a duet between David Frizzell and Shelly West.
I had just requested the same thing. Been trying for a while
i have suggested this on also
Oooooh yes they would love this!
Listen to her “newer” stuff from the late 90s and on. “Red Dirt Girl” is an incredible story song that you’ll love (but cry your way through).
You have to do Barbara Mandrell doing "I was country when country wasn't cool'"
yes!!
AGREE!! Loved Barbara and the Mandrell Sisters!!
Barbara wasnt the best singer
Pancho and Lefty is my favorite Emmylou song.
Emmy started out as total folk artist. Then Gram Parsons got her singing what he called "Cosmic American Music". I suggested this one a LONG time ago - thrilled that you finally got to it! Just an amazing song - Emmylou has one of the most beautiful voices of all time!
Seven year ache was another song that Emmylou Harris performed. It is a must listen to.
Grew up on Emmylou! Emmy Lou Harris “Pancho and Lefty”! She does the best rendition of this song. Off the Luxury Liner” album.
She got her break singing with Gram Parsons…..check out her duet with him ….Love Hurts……later covered by Nazareth
I'll add my vote for her cover of "Two More Bottles of Wine" if you want to hear a more uptempo rockin' side of Miss Emmylou.
Definitely this one.
Actually your 3rd time. You heard Emmylou with Dolly and Linda in the Trio. ; ))
Hello Stranger is an incredible song from Emmylou, also Icy Blue Heart is haunting ❤️ Oh, just so many!
Pretty Emmylou had such a beautiful haunting voice, one of my all time favorite female artist.
My favorite Emmylou song is a cover, “Darkest Night Is Just Before Dawn”, a dreamy duet with Ricky Skaggs.
One of my favorites by Emmylou is called To Daddy. It's a little sad but I love it!
Oh, I love Emmylou! She's one of the best! Check out First Aid Kit! They are 2 sisters from Sweden, and they made Emmylou cry when they sang for her. Take care 🙂
I second that!
third
Love that video - the girls sound phenomenal, and Emmylou is so touched and classy!
@moleman1976 yep, and they did the very same thing to Patti Smith! They are just sublime.
It was a tribute song and yes very good group to give a listen!
Emmylou co wrote this song with Rodney Crowell, who was a member of her band at the time.
Nanci Griffith was the Queen of Folkabilly. Give her a listen. Maybe “Late Night Grand Hotel”
Emmy Lou is a traveling musician, she often backs up legends. Neil Young, James Taylor, and others. She is also is a big part of the " Oh Brother Where Art Thow" harmonizing with Allison Krauss.
I started listening to country music in the 90’s, I haven’t listened to her music, but the 90’s were great for country artists.👍♥️♥️
She's wonderful
Love her duets with Gillian Welch

This song reminds me of my mum. I adore Emmylou. "Red Dirt Girl" and "Boulder to Birmingham" are great too
Fantastic song writing, and then delivered flawlessly with deep emotion……Her best imo.
Another good song classic country is Emmylou Harris & Don Williams amazing harmonies “If I needed you”
“Sweet Old World” - Emmylou with Neil Young backing harmonies. This song is so beautiful it brings me to tears every time. Great on her own, Emmylou is a master of duet harmonies. The song is called “Sin City”. It’s a real gem. Pick any one of these songs, and you’ll be blown away.
If I Could Only Win Your Love is my favorite of hers. Also Queen Of The Silver Dollar.
You can never go wrong with Emmylou...
Emmy Lou is beautiful, a country legend and my favorite female country artist. Her rendition of Buck Owens' Love's Gonna Live here Again is absolutely beautiful and my favorite of all her great songs.
You guys gotta check her out with Gram Parsons on "Love Hurts." IMO, the best version of that song.
You have listened to her before along with Dolly and Linda Ronstadt in one of the songs from Trio. Then they recorded another album with Trio 2. Absolutely fabulous voice she has.
Voice of an angel. She’s been a huge favorite of mine! ❤️
her airy high voice is just stunning. My favorite songs of hers are "I Don't Have To Crawl" and "I Ain't Living Long Like This".
I've always believed Emmylou has the greatest voice in all music. Strong, but tender. Sassy, but sweet. I quiver everytime I listen to her.
I love Emmylou. Her song "Red Dirt Girl" is beautiful.
You have to do Nanci Griffith
I've just been listening to Nanci singing Ford Econoline. It's like listening to a movie scene! Lol ❤
Nanci's cover of 'Where the time goes' from the Transatlantic Sessions would be my suggestion. Beautiful and barely, if at all, reacted to.
Another nice Emmylou Harris song suggeston: "This Is Us" with Mark Knopfler from Dire Straits
Something about that second guitar solo with the slide in the background made me emotional 😢
She has an amazing voice and is a top notch musician.
You gotta do "Two More Bottles of Wine" ! Perfect example of country-rock
"Where Will I Be?" Is my favorite from Emmylou. ❤
Yes, mine too! This first track on Wrecking Ball made me an Emmylou fan ever since. Fantastic album.
Shelley West and David Frizzell, "You're the Reason God Made Oklahoma"
There are so many Emmylou songs that you should react to!!!! She is an amazing singer/songwriter!! Please don’t move past her music!!!❤❤❤❤
Suggest Emmylou Harris singing " For No One" Great song and She has a great voice!
Yes! A Beatles cover. Absolutely breathtaking.
Hi. I just found you by watching your reaction to "Joey" by Concrete Blonde, one of the most influential songs of my life. Seeing the compassion and care you put out there is truly meaningful to me, and you've just gained a sub. Thank you for being good humans.
This is my favorite of her songs.
A top tier musician's musician who has always had super ridiculous bands (she basically shared Elvis' band for a while). She has mentored and shone a light on many, many other artists like Steve Earle, Rodney Crowell, Ricky Skaggs, and on and on and on.
