Best country rock musicians ever, and at their exact prime. Lee is incredible. But one thing everyone should know, this was Gram Parson's would-have-been band if he had lived. He wrote this song. He and Emmy Lou could have been the greatest duo, but really-really tragically he OD'ed right before this. I love your comment….your insight is spot on. Gram was on the cusp of greatness when he passed away. Watching this makes one think of how fabulous it would have been if he didn’t die in 1973. Emmy Lou was by far the best person to carry on and share his legacy. X
She’s still beautiful and talented today. She also still performs. I saw back in November. She had Verlon Thompson and Shawn Camp(both were in Guy Clark’s band) playing with her that night. The whole show was the three of them playing Guy Clark songs. It was amazing.
Say what you want - Albert Lee was "smokin it" - the man is a marvel with a guitar - - sings darned well and plays keys really good as well. Gotta love the man - he is unpretentious - easy to get along with and a real gentleman~!
Warren Wright. What’s not to say? Albert Lee and Eric Clapton were at Chas and Daves Christmas party BBC 1982. It was rumoured that bbc supplied the Beer!!
This was jaw dropping, life changing stuff back in 77 and it still is today! the reason that ELH always has such super human musicians is that she herself is a relentless force of nature. its only natural that they would want to be in on this. Emmylou didnt hire no bums. I also read that she used to pay these guys out of her own pocket when Warner Brothers was too cheap to pick up the tab in the early days. what a righteous, stand up thing to do! Art wins out over greed1 OH HELL YES!!! ROCK ON!
Honestly, I watch Every type of musical performance on you tube for years. I’m a big classic rock and Led Zeppelin fan. I dint Think I have Ever seen a better live performance than this. The singing and guitar is just spectacular.
Albert Lee is, without a doubt, my all time favourite guitarist. All those flash heavy rock/metal players just fade into insignificance, compared to Albert. This is how it's done!
great you appreciate him...great he is your favourite...but there many "heavy Metal" guitarists who have serious musical and guitar chops and Albert Lee would be the first say so...why make that kind of comparison...it's kind of foolish.
Na-aah - she realized that there was(Gasp!) too many guitars goin', and she wisely got out of the way. This is an example of why she's consistently had the best musicians in her band - she serves the song while putting on a good show. After a long time, she put the Hot Band behind her and went with a smaller group. But she's always got a great band. She knows that people expect it from her; she's worked hard for her reputation for always putting on a good show. But THAT'S what she's after, even more than applause. This is why she always seems uninterested in adulation or compliments on her looks - that's not why she's there. And so she always works hard, and her band works hard to back her up the best that they can, and everyone wins. It's too bad that it's unlikely that any young singer will come along with her values(even if the singer could match her gifts) - the world has just changed too much, and people are all so different today. Time does, as the song says, go past like a hurricane. At least we've got these cool old videos; Albert is just great on this one, one of Gram's that's always been a song for the band to stretch out on.
I've been a fan of Albert Lee since the way back in the Heads Hands and Feet days (and of course, always a big fan of Emmylou's) and I STILL can't get used to how stunning his playing is. Every time I see him I am left speechless all over again. It's like I can't trust my memory of the last time I saw him, and start to think that his playing can't POSSIBLY be as amazing as I remember... but it is. And perhaps, if possible, even better each time. What an incredible talent.
Man that’s what i was wanting to say but mine came out as some unimportant stupid shit cause i was still dumbfounded. Kinda dazed and confussed. But you wrapped it up in a nutshell. Well said!
Who are the 5 people that gave this a thumbs down? I've heard that Emmylou was not afraid to pay a little more to make sure she had the best band possible. I don't know if that's true, but she had the best band of her time...without question.
I've lead a sheltered life, I only discovered this last night when it was played on BBC4. I've always loved Albert Lee but this was just something else. I think that Emmylou needs a larger guitar :)

Not so sure about the miming; there was plenty of that. Not this excerpt of course but many of the "live" acts which did a couple of numbers on an episode were often suspiciously over-instrumentated (such as rod clements of lindisfarne playing a violin solo whilst the bass round his neck which he's taken his hands off continues to pump it out - and many more) It was a good show overall but not quite always what it seemed.
I still love this....the greatest band there ever was...love them all...albert lee is the best guitar picker there ever has been....the hot band is the best ever.
This is my favorite song by Emmylou! My mom grew up listening to her, but doesn't remember this song; maybe because it wasn't as much of a hit as "Don't It Make My Brown Eyes Blue", "Boulder To Birmingham", etc. I also love those songs; hell; I love her! 😍😍😍

Emmylou said, "When I look back on my career, I'll be able to say I played rhythm guitar for Albert Lee".

Great video...thanks for posting. Never saw the live version of this before. Albert Lee's guitar run has got to be one of the best ever in country rock music, or any music! Awesome!
I love this song, love Emmylou; and this video is HOT!
