What a word-smith Mark is! This song is exceptional: The story, the message, the picture painting, the emotion, and history is all conveyed so well, with the least amount of words. And then add the melody and musicianship...!

Thank you for this, once more!
You are such a lovely couple with so honest reactions to Marks music.❤
Can't explain, but I really enjoy watching your videos so much!
It feels like you really understand his music, his emotions and the stories he is telling. And, therefore, my emotions as well!
You are more and more becoming friends of mine!
    Best wishes from Switzerland, Linus

This was such a nice surprise today - thank you for another wonderful reaction! This performance is a gem with all the great musicians and the harmony between Mark and Emmylou. Mark has written quite a number of beautiful songs about the tragedies of war. I'm glad you appreciated the lyrics of this song, which I find to be quite powerful.

To me such a song of celebration and homecoming. You guys have the best songs. This is one of my favorites. What a cool pairing of these two artists that really complimented each other.

There is not a bad song from this concert, but Romeo and Juliet is just something above.

I sold t-shirts and concessions for Emmylou's 1981 concert tour around Colorado. She is a very nice lady!!

You have to give Emmylou Harris credit for the haunting Harmony. Amazing song with two great icons.

You're absolutely right, every time I hear a song by him that's my favourite until I hear the next one and I think: no maybe this is my favourite...until the next one. My infatuation with Mark grows with each new song.

This song is off the " Golden Heart," album, which is such a great piece of work by Mark, with every song being a gem of storytelling and musicianship. His solo career has taken him away from the rock era of "Dire Straits" and is much more focused on storytelling folk music, which i love. Just as an aside, did you pick the reference in this song where he asked for the world to be saved from little corporal's. ie Bonaparte and, of course, Hitler were both corporal's.

This. My favorite Knopfler tune. Well, maybe my favorite is really 'A Piper Till the End. Or maybe Romeo and Juliet, or maybe If This Is Good-bye. Or, a Postcard from Paraguay, or....

I've seen Mark play many times over the years, the last few tours he has played with 9 other musicians, he always jokes that they play about 50 instruments and he can only play one. You should check out Speedway at Nazareth from the same concert

Great performance from a duet by 2 great singers. If you want to try 2 not well known songs from 2 not well known bands (but realy great songs) try these 2: "The road ahead" from the band City to City and as second one "Ruthless Queen" from the band Kayak

Knopfler likely had the inspiration from reading `with Napoleon in Russia 1812`
