By the way he’s not only one of the best guitar players of all times he also writes all the music and lyrics and everything himself, from dire straits to his solo career until today. and he’s never using a plectrum, he picks the strings with his fingers. pure genius and a very humble and modest man.
Your good reaction brought me to your channel guys. I decided to subscribed 😊 This song was Impressive... Mr Knopfler was born in Scotland and I think lived there till he was 8, his family then moved to Gordieland, England. He stopped touring in 2019. He's now 74 and still doing what he loves, he also comes over as a humble man. He's now selling his guitar collection. Dire Straits were no more the second time when Mark decided he didn't want to do any more huge venues and just do what he's doing here, all the best musicians with him. Again, words, music, arranging, narrating, I think the same, he isn't known for his singing abilities, and playing his guitar as only he can. The mans a genius, and very intelligent. Theres a lot more on utube right up till 2019, well worth a listen. I've got to say I've just discovered you both and your English is very good as are your reactions.❤
Hi guys, I absolutely love your reactions. Everything you feel & say about Mark’s magical musicianship with his amazing band is exactly how I feel personally, and his gorgeously nuanced vocals suck you in to the stories he tells. IMHO Anyone who says he can’t sing has cloth ears & no soul…. I❤MK
Hi this is a bit belated, so don’t know if anyone has mentioned this but ‘Father & Son’ is part of the soundtrack Mark wrote for the film ‘Cal’, set in the time of the Irish troubles. So more of an Irish feel than Scottish. I❤MK & you guys
Mark always stated he loves success but not the fame. There was a documentary about Mark who has written over 300 songs and was sitting in a cafe with a mate sipping tea right opposite the venue he was due to perform that night. It was a busy street and nobody noticed him. That's how he likes it, just one of us. Great reaction guys. Did you know he's still going with a new album to come? He's 74 and still playing beautifully. Cheers guys, all the best from Australia 🎸🎸🎸 PS...If you can't pronounce his name, just call him legend. That's what I do😊😊😊😊
Listen more closely to the lyrics. This is one of the strongest Odes to Vengeance I've ever heard. The lyrics are powerful. In the studio version, the drums begin to build and build and build until the third verse. His instructions on the dog change with each verse, as do his comments on what he's up to. The "so bad" are how he feels about being cheated on by his only one. You wouldn't want to be in town when he gets there. But I would be grateful for 5 more verses to this song.
Thanks for your reaction of this his beatifull song.. even when I listened to it the first time live I was amazed ..now I recommend “Wherever I go “ featuring Ruth Moody…so sweet ❤
Such a different arrangement than the album version, which is also very good! I think you two would enjoy virtually every song from his many solo albums which are always filled with magnificent storytelling and fantastic musicianship! As he has aged his songs often have a nostalgic feeling which (like you have said about PF) often require some life experience to appreciate fully! Cheers to you both!
Please go to Scotland! And it's a Portuguese guy who is writing. Many years ago, as an Erasmus mobility student, I went to Glasgow where I lived for some time. I already loved the music, accent, culture, nature, scenery, but I fell in love for the country, for the people, even the weather (harshest Winter in 17 years, snow storms, icy streets, which don't make life easy for someone in a wheelchair 😊)! I had the privilege of being invited to a true Scottish dinner at a post graduation 'club' (cannot remember the name) and listen to Robert Burns' poems and, the best moment, a bagpiper coming into the and playing for us. Will never forget. Thank you Andrei and Dominika for the music and reactions, especially for being such a nice couple. All the best from Porto.
Hello, after your comment, not only I want to go to Scotland more, but also visit Porto again ☺️💚 Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful story ☺️
@@MerchantOfAlba if you come to Porto tell me, if I can help you someway, places to visit, I don't know, I'll be here. Take care! (I know its snowing a lot all over GB)
Yes mark carries Scotland in many of his tunes... I live by the south coast of England and sometimes ride up to Scotland on my old motorbike and sidecar and as the mountains get taller I start hearing Mark's tunes in the air!
Love all your reactions to Dire Straits guys , pleasure to watch you smile , laugh ,and cry , ,, you guys ever heard Irish music ,, try The Fureys, Every time , Sweet Sixteen and I will Love you ,, thats 3 songs total ,,, Enjoy ..guys ❤
its interesting that you get the Scotland feel, from this song, the pipes are the Uilleann pipes which are Irish and not the bagpipes i think you believe your hearing. this song is from the film Cal which is based in northern Ireland. but mark is very very clever to draw influences from all over the world, some of his songs sound Scottish, others Irish, others pop, rock, folk, blues bluegrass, lots of inspiration.
Well, that first one brings back memories from my student years in Edinburgh. Nothing more haunting than that. If you guys have the opportunity GO to the Fringe Festival in Edinburgh. The newspapers run a full calendar of venues and events for several weeks which are happening from 10 in the morning until late at night, from Shakespeare in the streets to standup comedy. I was lucky to live there at the time (beste book early) and it was awesome. Especially the traditional Royal Military Tattoo at the castle with the lone piper playing high up on the battlements. "Hector, the hero" was my favourite.
Another great reaction from the both of you. A song he did with a more Scottish accent was What It Is. It has an official video with Mark filmed in Edinburgh.
Great live performance from Mark. There is another version, from the A Night in London concert that has Father and Son leading into Golden Heart, which works wonderfully, you should watch that too. Mark's dad is from Hungary, Knopfler is pronounced nofler, the K and P are silent.
Seems like you guys love knopfler in the same way I do .... hes a legend. You should listen to 'why aye man' .... amazing song. Godbless you guys .... keep these videos coming😊
He released another concert today, it's over. But you can still watch it on yt. Mark Knopfler live in Prague 2013. Thank you for your reactions! If you like a great dire straits concert next to alchemy, watch the last one before they split up for the first time. "dire straits Sydney 1986 live"
Another beautiful reaction from you both. Haven't heard that song for a while- brilliant! Marks name is Hungarian and is pronounced Nopfler with a silent K. His father was from Hungary. Also, he never plays the same solo twice. If you watch different versions of live songs the solos have a map and structure, but seem spontaneous, depending on the feel and mood. It almost feels like he can do nothing wrong when those fingers start moving - a very talented musician.
Greeting to both of you!! Today, I would LOVE to suggest a brand new song entitled "Dissociation", by the French Canadian Death Metal/Classical project named "Disorientation". This is a lyric video* Thank you for your attention and have a nice day ;)

It's not Scottish, the music is from the film Cal about the troubles in Northern Ireland. It's a great soundtrack too, especially The Long Road.....

It is from the movie CAL soundtrack composed by Mark Knopfler
Father & Son is from Cal soundtrack, but Hill Farmer’s Blues is from his Privateering Album. I❤MK
No, from "The Ragpicker's Dream".
Love watching your reaction videos.
"Father and son" is from the movie Cal that Mark wrote the score for, that movie deals with Northern Ireland and the IRA

Can you share what specific performance of Father & Son this is !?
This post tis worthy & gets a new sub~!
The intro is called father and son 👍🏻
You should listen to his song called ( Cannibals ) and he was born in Scotland
The lyrics are about a farmer whose wife had an affair on him while he’s working on the farm. Now He’s going into town to have his fun.
Lets see if you picked a good or the right/ 'best' performance of this 2 song set song )
So far very tasty! Is this Brighton or New Castile and what year performed ?

You guys need to check out kingdom of gold Live it's just amazing 👏
I think those musicians are Irish, one of them are playing the uilieann pipes!
Nope. Scottish

He is singing so bad so bad because his wife has been unfaithful, and he is going into Tow Law ( village ) to have his fun. It is a sad song.
couldn't see properly but I thought the Pipes were more Northumbrian than Scottish
Those are Irish Uillean pipes .Like the Northumbrian pipes they have a softer, less harsh tone and are quite beautiful.
K is silent and ls pronounced Nopfler ,, Check out Dire Straits Making Movies
Yes, but not on the mainland, where his family comes from. German roots.Button is Knopf in German
