    Very balanced argument. Simon is right by saying even if Man City were found guilty of breaking some rules they would get fined and whatever, but that wouldn't stop their success still, people use the 115 charges thing to excuse their own clubs' incompetence. He's also right by saying if Utd win the treble in today's market they would make more money, i don't think Man City fans care about that though, they never argued ever being bigger than Utd, they just want to be better, and they have been better than Utd for more than 10 years now.

      It's really not a good argument. If City did cheat (which most agree they did), then where would they be right now if they didn't cheat? If their fate hadn't have been different without the cheating, then why did they cheat anyway? What did you gain from it if it didn't make a difference?

      City wins the Treble and earns 814mil. it doesn't take very long to work out that United is much bigger financially
      It actually tells how big a club United is considering that Real M, Barcelona, Bayern and City have won the most and yet United are in the top 3 every single year.
      You can find the figures at F.or.bes
      If United had won the same amount of trophies as Real M or City in that period it would definitely had surpassed the 1billion

    By Simon's logic, if Liverpool won the quadruple they'd would have smashed the record revenue as well
    If City were as dominant as Man U back in the 80's and 90's and had continued success until now, their revenue would be even higher
    If Arsenal had City's recent success and investment they would have smashed revenue records and likely have become a bigger club than United by now, in England at least. Not only would Arsenal have a more impressive trophy cabinet than they do currently, they're also based in London.
    There are a lot of if buts and maybes which would cause a huge affect.
    That's nor reality though
    Man U wouldn't win the treble, not only is it incredibly difficult to do but their current team is miles off where it should be
    Maybe Simon would have a point if Man U were in the finals of the champions league along with City and if United were in a title race instead of Arsenal but its a really stupid thought experiment when Man U weren't anywhere close to a treble last season

    • @hellalive8973
      @hellalive8973 7 месяцев назад

      The point is they weren’t successful in the past and have no history so they couldn’t attract the financial opportunities that bigger more historic clubs could. City have built it artificially and they are and will continue to be financially successful based on the success that they’ve bought. Simon’s point is that a club like United with their history, their success and their global recognition would be dwarfing everyone commercially if they were as successful as City is today.

    • @colonelcider8292
      @colonelcider8292 7 месяцев назад +2

      @hellalive8973 they actually did have some success in the past but when they were successful, football wasn't as profitable as it is today so their few wins didn't springboard them into having major financing.
      City weren't artificially built up.
      If that's the case, you can make the same argument to Liverpool, Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea, etc.
      They all had investments from the past and are now seeing the pay off of those investments.
      Football hasn't changed.
      Its the same as it ever was. You're all blind to it because it happened so long ago whereas City is recent.
      If it was organic then why is it that Preston North End, Sunderland, Huddersfield and Blackburn rovers never gained the massive success of Liverpool or Manchester United.
      They were winning the league back then, so why is it that they never kicked off and grew into a massive club?
      Quite simple, they never got an owner with as much money as these big clubs and weren't invested into to allow them to grow into a powerhouse.
      As much as people cry and moan, all the big clubs are the same.
      Heavy investment -> success -> profit 📈
      Now City have gotten as big as they have, it's now self sustainable just like these other clubs.
      Also his point makes no sense to even try and compare City to United.
      United have history, yes but City are the ones who are currently making history.
      City earnt their treble, it wasn't given to them. United are currently not in the position to win one so the argument makes no sense.

      Where was United in the early days of English football?
      United's dominance only came after they were a rich club.
      It's so hypocritical. You've done the exact same thing so if City are artificial then so are United and Liverpool.
      And the problem with Simon's statement is that it's so illogical.
      United winning the treble getting more money than City?
      They have to win one first.
      It's so useless to make these if and but scenario's as you can give so many different factors to benefit your argument.

    Isn’t it also true that all players have bonuses clauses in their contracts for for winning competitions? And I’d imagine that bonuses paid for winning the CL would be the highest bonuses paid, no? So it would naturally follow, if you’ve won the treble, you’d be paying out more bonuses (3 for winning 3 competitions) and bigger ones (CL more than PL, PL more than FA) thereby substantially increasing the wage bill for that year?

    I am a City fan and I agree with Simon . If United won the treble they would beat City's revenue. One big reason is that Old Traffords capacity is 20,000 higher than The Etihad .

    Revenue is huge because it's worldwide. United have the biggest Pre-season games in the US.
    The biggest game if Im not wrong was United vs Barcelona at camp nou.
    City will never reach that appeal unless they start beating United on pre-season.
    Let's say they smash them in Saudi. All the celebs take pics with Haaland. That's a market share won.

  • @nigelxavier883

    M City should be punished severely. Chelsea to a lesser extent. Everton should maybe lose than 9 points, like say 5 points because they were investing in the new stadium and as well as spending too much on players. Newcastle did it perfectly, Eddie Howe improved the team on a modest budget.

    There are FIVE financial "irregularities" (prem speak) not 115 or 30 as Simon Jordon claims. As for the trafford red sox getting bigger revenue if they won the treble how come Manchester City had a bigger turnover the season before when neither of them had won a treble?

    Record profits wouldnt be hard to find when the sponsors you are bringing on board are owned by your owners, chairmen etc. Every man and his dog knows there is financial doping occuring, yet it is a 'remarkable achievment' - give me a break.

    Amazing how they refer to the REVENUE but not the main indicator, which was the unprecedented increase in commercial revenue and the proportion of that earnings that have come solely from connected parties to their owners...
    Which has a direct bearing to the charges, as the main crux of their offense is the over valuation or material misstatement of their commercial deals.
