@@Nekotaku_TV All good points
@@Nekotaku_TV why
Honestly I think this is the one Star Wars movie that's managed to properly recapture the vibe the original movie had.
It's the second lightest movie in the series.
Speaking of test audiences, when George Lucas showed a rough cut of Star Wars to his filmmaking friends, they all couldn’t understand it, EXCEPT Steven Spielberg.
Although that's actually a case where a test audience actually improved the movie since it made George hand the editing duties off to his then wife Marcia, who did an amazing job and basically saved to movie in the edit. The Normies have a good sentiment on "fuck test audiences" but they do have their place in the film making process sometimes.
@@Mekasoundwave *Thank you for pointing that out.* _Truly._
It's easier to support a position when one doesn't include the whole story.
*Edit:* Ultimately, both _test audiences_ and _studio notes_ have their place. Historically, they appear to have improved as many films as they have harmed.
@@Mekasoundwave Lucas' wife needs more credit for what she did to Star Wars
And therefore he is Steven freaking Spielberg!
@@Mekasoundwave Actually the notion that she "saved" it is false. There's a video on RUclips that explains all the drafts and details to suggest the so called great changes, she didn't even make n whatnot
This came out shortly after The Last Jedi, so a bunch of angry nerds boycotted Solo. There were a lot of bad reviews from people who had never seen the movie.
I DID watch it and I hated it. And I actually LIKED TLJ. So I dunno. Maybe I need to rewatch it.
That's fine if you gave it a chance and didn't like it. I'm referring to the people who were spamming bad reviews before the movie was released in theaters. I liked TLJ also, but I can understand why some people don't like it.
Not really a boycott but more to the fact that people didn't give a shit about the movie, almost nobody asked for it
@@nickletcher1189 Ah, sorry, I assumed bad faith defense. My bad. I haven’t heard of people doing that, but knowing Star Wars fans, I’m not surprised
@@Strytax I'd been asking for it for years, since I first read "Han Solo at Stars End". And I got exactly what I'd been asking for, and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Nahid being in this video must be very old. He's no longer part of The Normies.

To fly “the Kessel Run” requires flying a path that is mapped that is at least 20 parsecs. Han flew a “short cut” through the uncharted space that was only 12 parsecs in distance.
Imagine a twisty road that’s 20 miles long, Han basically flew a straight line that was 12 miles long through what was considered impassable space.
It’s like successfully navigating an asteroid field….
in real life it would be pretty easy to navigate an astroid field
@@houseofaction true, you'd be more likely to hit nothing than hit an asteroid. but you are more likely to than regular space.
Ya that whole sequence to justify Lucas' subpar understanding of space for the original trilogy lol
@@TheJerbol Lucas originally wanted to make his own version of Flash Gordon.
It's a "space opera".
Not an astrophysics lecture.
In the books (pre-prequels), The Maw is described as a black hole cluster, which distorts space around it. Hence, The Kessel Run *could* be made in a shorter distance.
I definitely enjoyed this movie despite the bad rap it got. The ending got me very excited for a potential sequel. My review score is 7.5/10!!
why 7.5?
@@theawesomeman9821 A good solid Star wars movie for me. I enjoyed the OT, The Prequels and Force Awakens. Last Jedi and Rise were below average to bad. Rouge One was Great!! This movie had potential but Disney doesn't want to do anything with it so it's unfortunate.
It was originally supposed to get its own trilogy, but the internet bred backlash against it after the poor reception of The Last Jedi caused Disney to get cold feet and cancel it.
Such a shame tbh. Solo ended up being so much better than i anticipated
Only reason it got a bad rap is because of how close it was released to The Last Jedi and how everyone was still pissed off at that movie and took it out on this one which it didn't deserve at all. Solo was actually entertaining and felt like a Star Wars movie unlike TLJ.
29:00
Fun fact, when C-3PO jacks into the Falcon in ESB he says the ship speaks with a "peculiar dialect", he is actually talking with L3 and he is referring to how weird she is. It makes the Falcon (more of) a character in the OT. There's a lot of stuff like that in this film, I love it so much.

This movie was so damn amazing dude. Blew me away. Alden’s performance was fantastic. Emilia Clarke was great and I hope she comes back. Very interested to see Donald glover continue with his performance. It sad that people like nahid felt pressured to not watch because of the BS hate.
Emilia looks good slinky...
Hey, I can see a "Calrissian Chronicles" series.
I really enjoyed this movies, such a shame that it came out when everyone was still salty about The Last Jedi that they never gave it a chance, this really could have kicked off a trilogy exploring the underbelly of the Star Wars Universe.
Solo still deserves to get a sequel.
Love that y'all loved this so much. It is shockingly underrated. It has that gritty feel yet is super fun. Quick action-packed story. Great lines for everyone, well-delivered. Good twists yet not out of nowhere. Good snapshots of the Star Wars universe. As for why the droid L3 was so funny, that's the amazing Phoebe Waller-Bridge who wrote & starred in Fleabag. 💯
Ik this is old footage but it's pretty trippy seeing Nahid again.

saying he made the Kessel Run in 12 parsecs means he took a shortcut through the maw instead of around it. a very dangerous shortcut through a cluster of black holes.
This really doesn't get the appreciation it deserves. It does needlessly explain some things that didn't need explaining, but overall it's a solid and enjoyable movie. I think the whole downfall of this great movie is the fact that it was released 5 months after Last Jedi. People were still so damn heated they refused to give anything Star Wars a chance. If they released this In Christmas instead of May, might have a better shot at being accepted.
this movie is great, honestly. also chewie is so fluffy in this one and i really appreciate that i want to hug so bad 😭
"Damn, I still haven't seen this movie. The only thing I know about it is...wait, shit, their Clone Wars reactions, noooooooo"
The way that space works in Star Wars is very dangerous, that’s why they have hyperspace routes. Not every part of space has been explored and there’s a safe way to navigate it. So the Kessel Run’s safest way is 20 parsecs but Han made it in 12 because he didn’t use the safe path
The original directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller whom worked on The Lego Movie and 21 Jump Street were fired after 4 months of filming as Kathleen Kennedy said that this is not the film she wanted, saying it was too much of a comedy and not a serious action adventure film. Ron Howard was hired to do 2 months of Reshoots.
This is mostly accurate but Ron Howard had more than 2 months, and he shot most of the film over so it was much more than "additional photography", which is the technical term for re-shoots.
Release the Miller cut
This is why Lord & Miller aren't credited as co-directors. Howard basically reshot the whole movie.
they actually waited 7 months before releasing this on youtube lmao

I really wanted to know just out of curiosity which of the 9 movies were your guys's favorites. I know that Chris's favorite is Empire which is typical for most Star Wars fans, and I'm pretty sure Rana said that Phantom Menace was her favorite which makes me so happy because Episode 1 gets way too much hate IMO. But I really wanted to know which of the 9 Suraj, Mickey, and Marketa enjoyed the most so far. Also, what are your guys's favorite Star Wars movies or pieces of content? Personally, The Clone Wars series is my favorite Star Wars content, and I like it way more than any of the movies. Loved all of your reactions to the franchise movies. Being a fan of the franchise, personally, I enjoyed each and every movie for what each brought to the Star Wars universe. Join The Normies Discord Server: discord.gg/thenormies I think my biggest complaint is when the reveal of all the world killing ships comes into play. It’s like “Oh man that one big death star ship was crazy, how about a bajillion ships now?! Are you scared yet?” It's good to watch this with a reaction channel like you guys, Mythology Therapy 14:26 Mickey is basically being me... the guy constantly throwing knowledge and trivia around but when there‘s dropped an actress or actor name that isn‘t Hollywood A category „Wait... who?“ followed by a fast picture from the red carpet and „Oh, yeah... that’s the one“ 😂😂😂 Terrible memory considering bringing names and the correct faces together NGL I was unsatisfied with this movie, but I liked watching your guys' reaction to it. It’s not 100% explicitly confirmed in the movie but Palpatine is a clone that his spirit possesses. His evil and immense dark side power made his new body deteriorate, which is why he’s hooked up to that life support robot arm. His “son” was also a clone. Palpatine’s Sith cultists tried to clone him a better body, and they did, it was perfect, except that it wasn’t force sensitive. Palpatine saw him as useless for his intended purpose and let him leave, also to ensure the possibility of his bloodline continuing, which it did with Rey Force lightning isn’t exclusive to Palpatine. Suraj, did you miss Finn and Jannah’s conversation about when they deserted? It was a pretty strong hint about Finn being force-sensitive. I’m pretty sure. There was a Chewbacca comic a while ago that mentioned that he was also given a medal at some point during the ceremony. He gave it away to a young person he helped. 50:10 Thank you Suraj! 50:12 Thank you, Chris!
Thanks for reminding me how much I enjoyed watching this movie. This was the last movie I saw in theaters (gotta love this pandemic). I wasn't a big fan of it at the time and haven't seen it since. That said, I liked this highly edited version a lot better. Maybe I should give the movie in full again.
Solo unfortunately suffered preemptive backlash from ppl that hated The Las Jedi. Almost all of the hate was misdirected. Solo doesn't do anything big other than give us a fun adventure when Han was younger, and it absolutely works because of that.
The sooner filmmakers realize you dont have to always have a galaxy spanning stakes in your SW story...the sooner we'll start to get stories worth watching. Its a huge galaxy with unlimited possibilities.
I love Solo as much as i love Rogue One...which is to say they are my next favorite SW flicks behind the OT.
I didn't know if this movie was good due to feedback but I really enjoyed this movie and reaction
First comment😏
I haven’t been keeping up too much in the last few weeks so when did Nahid come back??? Or was this recorded awhile ago?
Got some 7 month old Patreon comments, so I'm going with the latter.
I liked the movie as well. Can't wait for you guys to watch Rebels.
Nice reaction! Have y'all watch Eternals? If not probably best to react to it now.😀
Fun fact: The guy who played Darth Maul is Ray Park, but his voice wasn't right for Maul so George hired a guy named Peter Serafinowicz who is the voice of Maul in the Phantom Menace, but the guy who voice him now in the clonewars and this movie Solo, is Sam Witwer who everyone thinks he's the best of the voice of Maul, Me I think he's good, but I think he's just not the fit for Maul and sounds to whiny when he screams or desperate for a little bit high pitched of the voice when he does it, and you will see that in CloneWars, which Peter just fits the voice of Maul because he sounds more sinister, yet evil, but that is Ray Park in Solo, he just looks different because well, he's old now 😂😂 he doesn't look the same in Episode 1 because, well, that was like 19 years ago lol, he's much older in this one lol.
Its such a shame a bit of the reason behind the negative feedback at first was due to it being released right after the last jedi, and damn that movie split the community in so many parts
also it was dropped in May instead of like the other star wars movies around Christmas
Maul is played by the same actor. He looks different because he's much older.
I saw Nahid and I was like.. hes back! Then I realized this must be older content. Damn
I miss Nahid's enthusiasm so much brooo 😢
The guy who left came back? Cool. Nahid!
Have you seen Eternals? Are you gonna react to it?
This film got shat on so hard when it came out. Old school fans still angry over the new films and new fans angry it wasn't continuing the new story led to such a toxic attitude towards what's honestly a good stand-alone Star Wars film.
Star wars fans are rebel scum. This film was great!
I'm glad that, now that things have calmed down a bit, fans are starting to watch it and realize that it's such a fun movie. Very much like how it took years before Bond fans realized how good the overlooked "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" actually was.
Did you see slave one during the kesselrun
The biggest problem with Star Wars is the "fans", they destroy the future of the thing they "love".
ANTHONY INGRUBER, look him up. He should have been Han.
This movie came out soon after the whole Last Jedi disaster, so everyone was ready hate this.
Oh Nahid's here!
There's a lot that I love about this movie, but I think my very favorite thing is the way that just about EVERY SINGLE CHARACTER is in a constant state of total desperation.
Lando tries to play it cool, but I think it's pretty clear from his impounded ship and the way he bargains that his "retirement" has turned pretty quickly back into "dire financial straits." L3 and Enfys Nest don't have quite the same "this has to work out or I will DIE" energy as Han and Beckett, but that's just because they care less about their own lives, not because they're any less deep in s***. Even Dryden Vos makes it clear that he too is one mistake away from losing everything he's fought and schemed so hard for -- and sure enough, one mistake later, he's dead.
Not even Rogue One (my favorite Star Wars movie) drove home the sense of how impossibly hard it is to live in a galaxy run by Palpatine's Empire quite like this one.
Solo is a movie Star Wars fans would’ve liked, if only they didn’t boycott it because they didn’t like TLJ.
Amazing movie I loved it, a bruh the Millennium Falcon has been through so much over the years of Star Wars, the fastest ship in the galaxy!
How I love this movie, it's fun, great action sequences, and we have some lore about underworld themes that lead us to The Book of Boba Fett and other medias
unless i'm forgetting, they never put that star wars skit up did they?
The reason this movie bombed was because it came out between Infinity War and Deadpool 2. Also it’s a movie that no one asked for.

While I think there are some big flaws with this movie, it's probably one of my favorite Star Wars movies over the past 10 years.
It has an air of excitement and fun.
As a whole product I'd agree it's better, but I'd still rather watch all of Rogue One just for the amazing final third
hopefully we'll see more of this in the Lando series!
I love when people go and watch this movie with no unrealistic expectations. It's a really enjoyable film. I'm a die hard Star Wars fan, and I enjoyed it a lot.
Besides the original Trilogy I only like this movie and rogue one. Solo and rogue one feel like authentic star wars just like mandalorian.
The movie had multiple issues. The first being the reshoots, from what I remember something like 70% of the movie had to be redone, and Ron Howard was brought in after they fired the previous directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. Along with all of this, the movie strangely released during the summer, only 5 months after The Last Jedi (Star Wars movies usually release around Christmas). So not only was it pretty soon after a main title Star Wars film, but since The Last Jedi massively divided the fanbase, it turned off a lot of people from seeing this one.
I think the movie was overall a loss because I don't even think the $300m budget included marketing (could be wrong), so yeah.
A first for the Star Wars franchise in that it actually lost money rather than simply having a gross that fell below projections like Attack of the Clones or The Last Jedi (and both films were still very profitable). Solo had a budget of $275 million as a result of the Troubled Production causing the budget to balloon, and would have needed to make around $600 million to break even. With an estimated final gross of $400 million worldwide and a domestic opening weekend of $84 million, it barely managed half the opening of Rogue One, the previous anthology film, on a larger budget, making it by far the lowest-grossing live-action Star Wars film ever. Deadline conservatively estimated the loss at $77 million. Releasing in such close proximity to megahits Avengers: Infinity War and Deadpool 2 probably didn't help its chances.
To emphasize the magnitude of this failure: its domestic gross ended up at $213 million, with its worldwide gross stopping at $392.8 million. Adjusted for inflation, the Star Wars: Special Edition 1997 re-releases in theaters grossed around $275 million. While the domestic take for Solo was actually the twelfth-highest for a film released in 2018, its exceptionally weak overseas performance helped condemn it to box-office failure - for perspective, Venom (2018) earned a near-identical amount domestically and $641 million outside North America; Solo only made $179 million overseas.
To stick the lightsaber even deeper, Solo isn't even the lowest grossing Star Wars movie. That dubious honor goes to The Clone Wars animated film, which only earned $69 million compared to Solo's $393 million. And yet, The Clone Wars is saved because it was produced on budget of just $8.5 million compared to Solo's $275 million and is part of the better received TV series (of which the film is actually a few episodes edited together), so it was still very profitable.
You guys should react to the PREDATOR movies, which are my childhood favorites! PREDATOR 2 is the best PREDATOR sequel ever.
*Suraj:* _"Feels like there could have been a sequel…"_ *Chris:* _"Disney does this thing where they get scared of internet people…"_ (25:50)
Guys, *Solo* was the lowest-grossing live-action *Star Wars* film and the first to be considered a box office bomb. It made 392 million, whereas every other new *Star Wars* film made above a billion. And I think even the other trilogy films made more, and that's before adjusting for the period in which they were released.
While I'm truly glad you all seemed to enjoy it, there were many that didn't. IMO it was primarily a cringe-inducing film we didn't ask for. 🤷🏼♂️
Test audiences have their place, just as Studio notes have their place. They've made films better just as often as they've made films worse. The original Star Wars wouldn't be as good as it is today if not for the feedback and help from the people _Lucas_ showed it to the first time. In fact _Brian De Palma_ wrote the opening crawl because the one _Lucas_ wrote was a mess.
Directors _Phil Lord_ and _Christopher Miller_ were kicked off the film when it was reportedly almost done. That in and of itself cast a lot of doubt in people's minds about whether _Lucasfilm_ knew what they were doing. But of course, that's just the fans that follow that sort of thing.
Regardless of the aforementioned internet chatter, the fans didn't show up. But that wouldn't have been enough. Ultimately, _general audiences didn't show up._
It also had a horrible release date; it was directly between other highly anticipated releases and directly after TLJ; even if it had been art on the level of The Godfather, that would have hurt it
@@JBWinter Good point. 😎👍 It failed for multiple reasons. Take just any _one_ reason away, and I imagine it still would have underperformed.
Day 1 of recommending them to watch OverLord until they do
You know what really didn't help this movie? Releasing smack dab in the middle of 2018, right between AVENGERS INFINITY WAR AND DEADPOOL 2.
Yeah no surprise it didn't do well when Disney is competing against THEMSELVES
Han and Vader are my 1A and 1B fav SW characters and I loved this movie. It wrongly got shit on because of the Last Jedi and Boba Fett nerds and that hurt the box office. I do wish they had stuck more to thevl EU/Legends stuff. Like how Han knew how to understand and sort of speak Shyriiwook, the Wookie language.
How Han and Lando first met when Lando wanted Han to teach him how to fly the Falcon and also at the same time saved Han from Boba Fett and getting on Fett's shit list.
The "Solo" last name thing was lame though. It didn't necessarily eliminate the Solo family legacy though.
A lot of people give this movie shit, but it's so much fun and extremely enjoyable for me. Gets better with every re-watch.
Wish we had gotten to see what MIller & Lord would have done but Ron Howard still made a good thing. I think Michael K Williams was supposed to play the part of Dryden if the MIller/Lord had gone off as expected. Omar Little and Chalky White are some of the best character out there to see someone like that in Star Wars would have been dope. RIP MKW.
Ultimately, I don't think I like this movie, but I still have a soft spot for it... Kinda like that kid in primary school who'd annoy the shit out of you, but when bully's came after him you'd still get his back. I think it's the cognitive dissonance between creative license and executive mandated. Like really the only *bad* things about this are the moments of "fan service" and/or that it's a movie about Han Solo. In between that is a production a lot of people cared about and put a lot of love and effort into. It's just the outright cynicism of those fan service moments puts me off to it. I think I'd enjoy this movie 100x more if it was either 1) Just not about Han Solo. Keep all the same plot. Keep it in Star Wars. Just get rid of the Han Solo origin stuff. 2) It was a Han Solo movie with all the same actors but they focused on one specific adventure and let that breathe instead of trying to ham fist all of Han's exploits into one feature film.
Several reasons I couldn't enjoy this movie
Lando Calrissian was portrayed as an incompetent card cheat
A Wookie would destroy a human rather quickly in a fight
Han Solo speaking Chewbacca's native language was too stupid to overlook.
The best part of the movie was finally answering the mystery of why Han Solo said the Millennium Falcon made the Kessel Run in under 12 parsecs.
This movie came too early. Solo would've been a PERFECT Disney plus series but it's unfortunately looking like they're just going to abandon the whole thing which sucks
God this movie was true dogshit. A dumpster fire that killed itself. Thank god Disney canon doesn’t matter so this movie never really happens
This movie is so underrated, I wish Disney would do a sequel. But probably won’t cuz of angry Star Wars nerds ruin everything.
This movie came out at a horrible time. It came out 5 months after the last Jedi and the fanbase was still angry at Lucasfilm for TLJ so they boycotted Solo and because of that the box office was terrible and that was enough for Lucasfilm to stop anthology movies
Man...you know this vid was living on Patreon for a hot minute 😅
Solo was a lot of fun and well acted. It had a lot of setups that lead to pay offs. It was really good, damned internet people screwing shit up as usual
Also the parsec comment was how a normally 20 parsec trip was only 12 because he took the shortcut through a place that was insanely dangerous. One of my favorite retcons =)
I think it was for the good. Otherwise, they would have released three or four Star Wars movies each year and overexploited the franchise. Star Wars is not Marvel. So far they have been doing well with the TV shows. For now.
