I don´t think you people can even begin to comprehend how many LEGENDARY and absolutely ICONIC lines of dialogue (and sometimes ENTIRE SCENES) you completely missed/talked over, during this reaction :S
Hard to watch with you all, especially the lady with long black hair, saying sexist and classist stuff about the protagonist for the whole movie. As if it's 50/50 odds there is something dangerous about him, or it's "creepy" for him to chat with the shy woman he has a crush, who obviously regards him as a nice person and says things like "goodnight rocky" to him? What if he never flirted with her or put himself out there? I mean it's just a movie, but what would you do in his shoes?
@@emilianosintarias7337not that deep bro If you don’t want to watch just don’t comment and move along
@@swundos4191 Maybe you should move along if you don't have something interesting or critical to say.
You all discovered the secret of this film - it's not really a boxing film - it's a love story.
Yup, A love story with boxing in it. A romantic movie disguise as a sport movie
it's a "love story" but it's ALSO the story of a MAN who has a unique opportunity of a lifetime to really REBELS against authority (creed, a champion who set its own rules) and wins even though he has "lost" the fight.
the proof is that the following films it's basically Rocky who becomes the authority, becomes weak and nice family man and has to fight to change that
@@IaloneAmTHEChoppedONE - i dont think Rocky ever became "the authority" in boxing becuz he was always the underdog. And even tho the films contained some iconic love story elements, i think they were mainly about Rocky's heart and his journey of change into a better boxer in the ring but especially a better man outside of it. also i never saw Rocky's character as a "rebel" at all. What made the Rocky franchise great, imo was his enduring creed (no pun intended) that no matter how hard life gets, never stay down, always give everything you have...in other words, go the distance.
It's a Cinderella story.
@@joeg6478 HAHAHA did you really believe he was the "underdog" against MR T ? DID YOU EVEN WATCH THAT MOVIE ? stop bullshitting Joe
As a native Philadelphian, Rocky Balboa is basically a local god. Every morning, the people congregate to the feet of the Rocky steps and pay tribute with incense and libations of raw eggs. On the solstice, we sacrifice a chicken in His Glorious Name, and children near and far run across the city in leaping bounds of festive merriment. On special moons, the great god Sly himself graces the city with his presence, and flocks of Philly Fanatics ride the winds up in the sky to the collective chants of "Yo Adrian! Yo Adrian!" that ring out to the heavens until the setting of the sun. It is glorious.
:')
Anytime someone from Philly talks about how proud they are of Rocky it reminds me of this. 🤣
“Bunch of f**kin’ losers. F**kin’ Rocky is your hero. The whole pride of your city is built around a f**kin’ guy who doesn’t even exist. Joe Frazier is from there, but he’s black so you can’t f**kin’ deal with him, so you make a f**kin’ statue for some 3 foot f**kin’ Italian, you stupid philly cheese-eatin f**kin’ jackasses.”
- Bill Burr
I knew it!
WITNESSED!
I've never seen so many people unfamiliar with Rocky in one room. Gotta be some sorta record. Can't wait for the rest of the series!
The way they were convinced Rocky would win
Not surprised, they're not really American
@@revelstatus2346 yes they are lol
@@revelstatus2346 What?🤦♂️
@@edgar214ER green cards don't count
My favorite part of this reaction is the second hand embarrassment Spidey is feeling for Apollo Creed throughout the movie due to his absolute conviction that Rocky is going to win this fight like any underdog story 😄
People in America care too much about races man
Like my country cares too much about religion🤣🤣
Every country has their flaws i guess
Paulie is one of the most misunderstood characters in cinematic history. Also happens to be one of my favourites. There's a photo of him in a naval officers uniform in their house - the implication is that his and Adrian's parents died while she was young and he gave up a successful career in the navy to look after her. This led to the bitter resentful man you see now who never achieved what he wanted to in life. It's also a testament to Rocky's character that he knows Paulie is at heart a good man, and keeps him around despite his failings.
29:53 Rocky not winning actually goes in line w/ the cynical tone of most popular 70s movies: The Godfather, Taxi Driver, Chinatown, A Clockwork Orange, The Deer Hunter, etc... This film along w/ Jaws, Star Wars, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Superman, etc... from the latter half of the decade brought back the urge for feel-good endings in cinema.
Yeah exactly, this was the New Hollywood Era where grounded, cynical films with bittersweet and downer endings were the norm rather than the exception.
From what I understand, Butkus was his dog, and Cuff and Link are his turtles and are still alive. This franchise is my favorite. In 1976 I was 12. I went with my family to a drive in to see this when it came out.
Yes the turtles are still, as a matter of fact they were in the first Creed movie and butkus was Stallone's dog in real life
yep the turtles are still about. After the movie the pet store owner had the turtles, after a long time when the pet store folded, the old pet store owner's son contacted Sly to see if he wanted the turtles. I'm not sure if he sold them or gave them to Sly, but Sly has them now.
additional information about Butkus, he had sold him to make rent/eat, when he got the deal for the movie, the first thing he did was go buy him back.
This movie is so good. Holds up after 40 years...
Rocky and Adrian are my favorite couple ever put on the big screen you just saw the beginning of a journey. And what a great line "They don't remember you they remember the rep"
"we're seeing more of paulie than i want in this movie" trust me you are not the first to say that
Paulie is the guy you love to hate
Rocky is my top 5 movies of all time. Such a classic, glad y’all are watching these!
One of the biggest things to take away from this generation watching 1976 rocky is how much CYNICISM everyone has during the 1st half of the film. Rocky manages to break that down so much then, and especially now.
Hey I was never cynical about the first film and I'm 28. Apollo and Rocky moments are my fav through the franchise
47 years later, Paulie is even more hated.
He’s a really shitty dude.
Paulie is an amazing character, he's the guy who never "made it", the guy who never left the town he was born in - he's ben afleck in good Will hunting but he let his bitterness grind him down
@@Braincleaner exactly
@@Braincleaner couldn't agree more
@@Braincleaner didn’t paulie serve in the military or am I wrong?
Rocky is one of the greatest films of all time, it has so much heart and it’s really inspiring.
This was an incredible reaction. Didn’t expect this packed couch to connect with the (now) unusual heroes, but they did, and that finale was dope. Can’t wait for the rest of this series, especially 2, 4, and Balboa.
So he says "there ain't gonna be a rematch" because he got what he wanted - going the distance with Creed. You would see more about it in Rocky II (the climax and the montage is even more satisfying).
@@TrackMaster844yeah sorry, I meant he said "Don't want one" cos of the reason I wrote.
Creed said "there ain't gonna be a rematch" cos he is cocky and thought he won clean.
@@TrackMaster844But in the second film we saw that facing Rocky again wasn't an issue for Creed. In fact he wanted it because people accused him of only winning on a technicality.
That is Sylvester Stallone's actual dog. He didn't have enough money to take care of him so he had to sell him. He ended up getting enough money to buy Butkus back and he put him in the movie.👍🏼
Rana's "cut what?" will forever be my favorite part of this movie!
28:13 Rana's freak out when Rocky asks them to cut his eye open🤣
And it was a little over-exaggerated
Fun fact: Stallone's father is the bell man in the end fight.
When Adrian and Rocky trade I love you, you hear the final judges vote and declaration of Creed as the winner in the background.
Star Wars and Rocky were released 6 months apart. Star Wars impact on film is self-explanatory. Rocky saw the innovation of the Steady Cam. Before cameras were so large they had to be mounted on a rail system or a vehicle. This is why you have the classic stair and ring scenes because the camera man was able to get in close or move with the actors. The camera man is still innovating today. When you see these odd camera angles and cameras on zip lines at sporting events or any event, that is his company.
it's not just a boxing story it's a love story it's a life story.. its one of the most beautiful series in all of movie history! can't wait to see the rest and then the creed movies 😊
One of the best love stories ever told. Rocky and Adrian loved each other they could love themselves.
The actress who plays Adrian is the sister of Francis Ford Coppola, mom of Jason Schwartzman and aunt to Nick Cage. Jason tell a story about trying to watch Rocky III when Mr. T said something about his mom. He was a kid and couldn’t handle it
18:06 --- I saw that monologue in a book for acting students. The shot afterwards never fails to choke me up, when the reconcile.
Sweet, glad you guys decided to react to this love/sport movie that won 3 Oscars including Best Picture. ROCKY! ROCKY! ROCKY!
I think it's also a fair point to notice that Paulie was in the military, I think there's some hidden details as to how he came to be what he is.
I saw this at the theaters when I was about sixteen and it was amazing. The country was getting ready to celebrate its bicentennial birthday and patriotism was super high. There was a nice little buzz about the film going around and within a pretty short time it seemed like everyone was going to see it. I think the small production budget gave it a grittier, more realistic edge that worked well with the story. I love that it still has the same effect on people seeing it now for the first time. By the way, Stallone still has his two turtles 'Cuff' and 'Link' from the movie and they're huge now.
The hate Paulie got shows you the actor good perfomance but also you gotta see how he is a tormented soul that has lost hope in his life and was adicted to booze. Rocky saw that (in my view) and was willing to let it be, after all he himself was suffering and tempted to loose his hope because of his own hardships. Rocky, Adrian and Paulie are a family that rose itself with that opportunity Apollo's showned. This was one of the most deserving Oscar's in history.
It's great that you guys are going on the journey of Rocky's story!!! Very iconic and amazing story that everyone should enjoy!
The story was about Adrian and Rocky. Rocky is a love story. The guy just happens to be a boxer. He was never any good until..... He had something to fight for. The deeper they fell in love the stronger he got. That's why It didn't matter who won. All he wanted in the end was Adrian!
My favorite is Rocky 2. Just shows the struggle he had to go through, before being Champion of the world!
The entire story is summed up when Adrian is finally compelled to watch but then steps out to see the worst and closes her eyes. Then opens them.
I love, love this movie. The victory for Creed is almost a sidenote at the end, because the conflict of the movie was Rocky fighting and winning a battle with himself, for his own self-respect, for the value of knowing he didn't give up, that he kept moving forward, even when everyone thought he was a joke and he maybe believed it himself at the start. I think that's why it reasonates with people. And he found the one person who never thought that! That's why he's shouting Adrian at the end, not even paying attention to the the judges decision. It's their victory together whoever the winner of the fight was. It's beautiful!
This was the first major film to use the *Steadicam* which was a new invention which made steady shots without the use of a dolly track. Instead, the operator would carry the camera, and, with some weight distribution apparatus, could give smooth, non-shaky handheld shots. Case in point: following Stallone up the steps.
The Steadicam was also used to film bump-free footage of the forest whizzing by as background footage of the speeder bike chase in Return Of The Jedi.
I was a 9 year old kid when this came out. I think that just about every kid I knew got up extra early & drank a glass of raw eggs after seeing this movie🤣
I was in my mid-twenties when this film was first released in 1976. I found it very easy to root for Rocky in this film. He was honest, likable, a loyal friend. He was also very undisciplined when it came to boxing,, treating it more as another hustle.. until Mickey started training him. The group's reaction to Rocky's initial interacting with the promoter was spot on. There is a huge gap between fighting other club fighters and taking on the Heavyweight Champ! I also want to point out that his night before the fight assessment of victory over Creed was very real and believable as well. Going the distance was Rocky's victory! So glad Sylvester Stallone chose not to go "hollywood" on us. By the way, this film was inspired by a fight between Muhammad Al and Chuck "the Bayonne bleeder" Wepner. Good job, folks 😎
i wish i was alive then to experience it
that egg & cut scenes reactions made me giggle! 😃 All time classic movie!
I really wish so many reactors would stop projecting so much in their reactions. The date with Adrian in particular is just so ridiculous. Adrian is not incapable of saying no to Rocky the whole time. Just because he stopped her from opening the door once, doesn't mean that if she had said "Let me go." he would have held her against her will and forced himself on her. She was extremely shy and insecure. Her finally having it out with Paulie highlights that fact. She was closing herself off because she thought so little of herself. Rocky told her he thought she had pretty eyes and her response was, "Don't tease me." He even asked for consent to kiss her and you act like he is assaulting her.
Some people don't get with some shy girls, you have to to be alittle more assertive and forward to coax them out of their shell. Not suprised with most of the reactions of Rocky I've seen, because most of them look like they think romance is asking permission and signing a consent form before talkling to a women, let alone kissing one.
I've been putting this reaction off and I still haven't watched because I dread this outcome. You're right on the money, Adrian didn't say things like, "I want to leave" or "No", rather "I don't belong here" and like you said, "Don't tease me" both of which *scream* interest, yet crippling insecurity. I'm like Adrian and I've only started dating *this year* in my late 20s because of feeling the same. Someone being persistent as Rocky would've spared me years of doubting myself. I'm happy there are people out there who know Rocky would've respected a rejection, but Adrian being uncomfortable ≠ unwilling.
Of course it doesn't automatically mean he would hold her against her will or anything but it's still not good optics when a woman says "I should go" and he comes up, basically closes and blocks the door/corners her and says don't go. Like yeah, WE know Rocky and it's in the 70's but in real life today that's not a good look.
@@Artistikk The problem is you're speaking in generalities. In this specific case the reason Adrian wanted to go was against her own interests. If she really wanted to, she would've answered in the affirmative when Rocky asked if she didn't like him or the room or any of that. She would've said, "If you continue I'll scream" at the door. The shyest women still have self-preservation instincts. In actuality Adrian wanted to and Rocky did as he saw best, period.
Besides all that these are shortcuts a movie takes to get around something like a character's shyness that someone in real life actually courting another person would have to be a little more patient about or cut their losses on. So I feel like it's both ignoring the specifics of what we've seen of these two to this point and fundamentally misunderstanding how plot momentum works to get so up in arms about that scene.
@@Artistikk Kabedon! It still make the girls squeal watching it happen in newer shows/movies.
Dolph is Rocky 4. Mr. T is Rocky 3.

You need to blaze through this franchise, avoiding spoilers the entire way. Binge watch & react… then release on a planned schedule if you want.
Always fun hanging with you guys. A popular editing technique back in the day was to leave the scene/moment at the peak of victory for the protagonist. Rocky’s at his best moment in life at that final frame, much like Thelma and Louise as they get frozen in ascent or Butch and Sundance as they get frozen at the peak of their legend. Looking forward to your take on 2 & 3! ✌🏾
RIP Butkus, but Cuff and Link the turtles are still alive. Stallone posted a pic a few years ago.
the point of micky telling rocky to stay down wasnt to let the fight end, its to use the count to take some time to breathe
Ah there’s nothing like seeing the Penguin training Rambo
To fight Greef Karga.
@@BradTheProducer nah his name was Dillon way before that and he’s a son of a bitch
Always a trip to see the kids get into and love a classic :)
I hate romance in this "modern" age. It used to be this playful game of cat and mouse where sometimes you were the cat, other times you were the mouse, sometimes you thought you were the cat and turned into the mouse. It's okay to be spontaneous, to push a little, pull a little. There's a line you don't cross and you always keep that in mind... romance now is boring and cold.
HELL YEAHH, I also just started watching the Rocky franchise about a week ago. Now I'm just about to watch CREED II, when I saw this upload.
and I'm happy that I started watching this franchise. It's so gooooooooooooood
I can't believe that none of you have seen an all time classic movie like Rocky. like I could understand if some cattle ranchers who have only ever seen a few movies in their life haven't seen it, but a group of people making online content focused on movies and TV... I thought maybe one or two at most wouldn't have seen it.
that just makes the reaction even better, I'm glad it's all brand new content for you!
Burgess Meredith who played Mick was the penguin in the 60s Adam West Batman
He also did a FANTASTIC job in an episode of The Twilight Zone.
Hi Normies. I recently just finished the Rocky Movie Franchise. It's definitely one of my favorite movie series. You guys are truly in for a massive treat. ❤
To answer the question why Rocky's coach Micky wanted him to stay down: when he was knocked down, if he tries to stand up to fast, he might lose his consciousness and fall again, and the fight would have ended there...
One of my favorite movies of all time. So uplifting in so many ways
This is the best reaction I've seen from you guys.
One of cinemas best love stories…that just happens to have some boxing. Really happy you kids enjoyed it. Rocky II is one of a handful of sequels that’s better than the original.
You guys really can't beat these older classics...
Fun fact ......I believe both runs up the steps were shot within about an hour of each other. They just waited for better light, then did it again.
The first practical test of the Steadi-Cam.
Still early on in this reaction right now, but it's really funny how cringe everyone thinks the first date with the two of them are. At the end of this whole thing, we all know that each of us would be truly lucky to have a love like Rocky and Adrian in our lives.
Its not just them, their first date definitely felt rapey towards the end for me. He slowly begins cornering her, invading her space, and the fact that she might be feeling trapped, alone in his house FOR THE FIRST TIME, and she could be too shy to say no. All im saying is it did not feel or look romantic at all, sure all their interactions after that scene can be seen as cute but that initial scene is a tough watch for sure.
@@basketfreak023 to be fair, the point was to kinda get adrian out of her shy shell but i do understand why it comes off that way to you
Lowkey the best movie in the entire franchise… all the other movies are amazing too but this one just hits different…
the reason why gozzo, paulie, mickey want to be a part of it, even though everyone is coming to it from a different pov is because these are people that are living lives of quiet desperation and this is their shot of doing something of note. Rocky gets this opportunity and to some extent, this opportunity is able to lift people up. Gozzo is no doubt a piece of shit, even he realizes it and gives rocky training money. This may be the one good deed he can look back on in his life.
28:19 - Just laughing at seeing them all freaking out here. 😂😂😂
The greatest part of this movie. The fight ends, and Rocky didnt even care about the decision. He only cared about finding Adrian
GUYS GUYS, It was the 70s, things were different back then! Relax🤣🤣🤣
Mickey liking Mickey is all I needed from this reaction 💚💚
Fyi, being called a Bum in the 70s is pretty big insult back then.
Such a feel good movie. It’s my comfort movie.
YES!!! I discovered you guys through Rick and Morty, but I have completely rededicated myself to this channel to see you all discover the Rocky/Creed franchise. This is amazing!!!
It's interesting to see your reactions to certain scenes. They're way different than what we felt when we watched them as kids. Can't wait for your reactions to the 2nd one. It's gonna be epic.
Honestly I thinking "blading", purposely cutting yourself for blood, was very rare in the WWE in the 90s... they just honestly hit each other hard enough to draw blood.
It's a love story with boxing as the back drop.
My favorite Stallone movie is Copland.
28:17 Rocky: "I can’t see me. You gotta open my eye. Cut me, Mick."
Rana: "Cut me what?"
🩸😱
Cue poor Rana trying to climb behind the couch to escape the horror!! 🤣🤣
It’s amazing how the winner of such an epic fight was in the background and Roxy was only focused on Adrian
After multiple watches of this movie I noticed that the scenes before the first date apartment scene were all there to show Rocky's empathetic side. So when the apartment scene happens, I longer thought he was as creepy because I knew a lot about him. It definitely was a bit forceful but I guess he thought he needed to be because she was so shy. That wouldn't fly if it were two different people but Rocky and Andrianne were made for each other.
My sister and I spent an entire day watching 1-5 back-to-back. I sincerely hope you guys have as much fun as we did.
You made the joke about how Paulie gave Rocky the bricks to carry as he ran... That is kinda what happened. Burt Young (Paulie) used to be a boxer when he was young and he told Stallone to carry bricks for that shot.
Stallone was also in Guardians of the Galaxy 2! Some of yall saw that!
Rocky is a damn good film. The story is great, it is not a boxing film but a love story, and Stallone showed his best acting niche only to rarely use it again: When he has to show emotion, he delivers like a madman. The problem is you rarely see that side of him, his best side, on his career, as he pretty much got stuck in "macho-hero" characters, and the rest is history. Rambo and Rocky are some of my favorite films precisely because you can see him deliver raw, pure emotion. Good stuff.
Oh this will be a journey! It’s like a decades-long character piece/soap opera.
This is actually a love story . Boxing has a very small part in this .
Mickey told rocky to stay down when he got knocked down so he could rest on the floor a little longer before he continues to fight
you telling me y'all ain't seen Rocky before???? Asking this before watching video so I know my questions will be answered.....you kids are in for a treat :)
I love this series... I can't wait for you guys to see them all. I started watching them in the early 80s... 1,2 and 3 on cable TV and after that I saw 4,5,6 and Creed 1,2 and 3 in the theaters. This series a bible to me, I even lost 54 lbs when Creed 1 came out (I was in my 40s and was getting out of shape and belly getting bigger LOL) After seeing Creed (and rewatching Rocky 1,2,3,4,5,and 6) I got back in shape.
My grandmother bought her *house* for $14k in 1970. Back then, there was a rule of thumb that your house shouldn't cost more than 2 year's salary. That would be insane these days.
No way, love that you started this series
Loved your reaction, except one part. The romance was supposed to be beautiful. The guy with the hoodie was the only one that got it. They completed each other. Context is important when you watch older movies. Back in the 1970s, women didn’t want to be perceived as whores (so they played hard to get, didn’t want to be seen as sexual). On top of that, Adrian was very shy. On top of that, Paulie made her feel like a loser. You accept the love you think you deserve. Yes his apartment was like that, he was a poor bum. It was supposed to look realistic. He’s not going to have a beautiful IKEA model apartment. Last, it was considered romantic back then for a man to take charge and show you how much he desired you. Of course, if Adrian said “no” and pushed him away, he would have stopped. It was supposed to look as if she wanted to let go, but was too shy and afraid. She didn’t believe he could really love her. Once she believed it, she was all over him in later scenes.
One of the great appeals of this movie is Stallone's real life story of getting the movie made parallels the fictional story of Rocky. Stallone was a relative unknown, he wrote the script in three and a half days. No studio wanted to make it, at least not with Stallone as the lead. They finally found a producer to back it and it went on to win nine Oscar nominations, winning for Best Picture and Best Director.
No way.... Not one Stallone movie???? Wow what a rare species. And Rocky is such a classic movie. I love it
I like spidey reaction at 29.39. He just can’t believe what he just watched! 😊
Love this series. Can’t wait for y’all to get to the Creed movies 😩

Rocky, my favorite series all time. from the first to the lass loved it...Rocky five...yikes..just the story, the commitment, and the outcome, it's emotional and amazing. Saw my first Rocky movie on tv in 1982, I was 11 and was hooked....beyond belief. So extreme excited when me and my cousin watched Rocky III in the theaters. I remember it like it was an hour ago. When you get to the other movies you'll get it.. It's about what you can over come in life.
Gazzo just gave him the money. No strings.
This is by far the best Rocky.
You gotta remember it’s a different time. This stuff wouldn’t have been considered creepy back then
The word "creepy" gets thrown around far too much. It's a little CREEPY.
Copland is a Stalone MUST SEE movie.
It May be a "Boxing" movie, But... it's Really Rocky and Adrian's Love story ❤
FYI, those turtles are still alive. Those were Sly's real pet turtles.
One of my favs, it is def to me the best rocky movie. its almost a stand alone film from the rest.
