Rocky IV...probably one of the most 80's middle of the Cold War movie ever with one of the most 2 dimensional character ever in Ivan Drago ! We love it for it because it's a great time capsule of the time and that soundtrack is pretty amazing ! Creed II made that movie a billion time better and looking back at it make it better !! Side note, you guys got to remember that at the time, Russian athletes were also part of the military so sport events were also smaller war...See the documentary Red Army for more detail.
"Miracle" did a really good job showing how intimidating Russian athletes were at the time. They made even pro-hockey athletes in the NHL during the era look like boys in comparison.
@@chaost4544 What i love is that we see the aftermath of Miracle in Red Army...they cut half the veteran of the team and made them train 14 hour, 6 day of the week at 140 hearthbeat rate...they were peeing blood and couldn't see their family. Believe me, in the next game, they were ready !
The Apollo vs Drago fight was just supposed to be a showcase fight, where neither was supposed to be harmed. It wasn't for belts or anything. However, Drago takes it really seriously and starts destroying Apollo.
Fun fact: It was a point of pride in the Rocky films for the actors to take a few real hits. Stallone told Lundgren to hit him for real, and he ended up in the hospital with a swollen heart.
We're meant to believe that Stallone had the first ever case of a punch causing a swollen heart, and not the 1 millionth case of copius amounts of steroids and HGH causing the tissue in the heart to enlarge? Especially being that this guy just coincidentally looks just like a guy who takes copius amounts of steroids and HGH... Cap.
one of the most devastating lines in all the movies is the "YOU CANT WIN!" That coming from Adrian crushed Rocky. She has always been his rock and on his side and when she said that, it just crushed him. Of course, her turnaround is what changed the whole thing, but in that moment. it was devastating

The Robot was all Stallone. He saw that at his kids birthday party and he literally said "Omg that's going in the movie". Hey, it was the 80s. That stuff was new and exciting.
there is a version of this movie called Rocky IV, Rocky vs Drago The Ultimate Directors Cut, Stallone went back and removed 40 minutes of the movie, and added 42 minutes that were originally left on the cutting room floor. Notably more scenes with Apollo and WHY he wants this fight, more scenes with Adrian and Duke that elevate their characters and roles, and the biggest one was the complete 100% removal of all scenes with the robot, he hated that thing in the movie. There was some musical changes as well. Highly recommended to watch that version on your own down the road as I feel it makes this movie so much better.
Ivan Drago actor, Dolph Lundgren is actually Swedish. Despite the stereotypical views he's got from his roles the guys an actual genius. Has an IQ of 160 and graduated MIT in chemical engineering. He's also a great martial artist too. A 4th Dan Black Belt in Kyokushin Karate. Sylvester Stallone had commented that getting hit by Dolph felt like getting hit by a speeding car, "he is the car" and suffered many severe injuries throughout filming and one included his heart swelling up to his chest. Even Carl Weathers almost called it quits on the 4th movie cause of how hard Dolph hits. The people on set had almost believed that he actually died during that last punch.
I don't think Stallone or any other actor involved would risk his life like that for the "Rocky Saga". Like c'mon the fights in these movies are so unrealistic they look like anime fights. I think they made up these "fun facts". Also If Dolph Lundgren really has an IQ of 16O (I believe it) then he probably held his punches against Stallone and Carl
@@IaloneAmTHEChoppedONE It could all be made up ofc, and in any event like 90% or more of the fighting is completely staged, but I've seen interviews with both Stallone and Dolph (separately) where they talk about how Stallone told Dolph he wanted some footage of them two just going at it, full contact, and that it ended with Stallone going to the hospital for a week or two. The part about Carl Weathers (from the og post you commented on) is complete news to me, and it doesn't make any sense. Dolph obviously wouldn't hit another actor for real, unless specifically asked to by the director/producer, and the other actor being ok with it.

Rocky perfectly encapsulates America during these time periods. The first film is dirty, dark, & gritty. In 70s America, there was economic anxiety, gas crisis, inflation, you name it. Things were dicey. But once the 80s rolled around, we entered the Gordon Gecko “greed is good” era. Technology was advancing, media was taking over, yuppies were in. Rocky moves from the dirty slums of Philly in the 70s to a mansion with everything he could ever need, sports cars, etc. in the 80s. This franchise gives a good perspective of what the country was going through. Having Rocky fight in Russia and beat a doped up super athlete is actually the most American thing they could’ve implemented in this film at that time.
Rocky 4 made more since in 1985. I remember watching it. The battle between the U.S and Russia was more intense on who is the strongest country. Technology was new and seeing the robot at that time was cool to see then it is now. Mtv was the thing at the time. So thats why it felt more like a music video then the other movies.
As movie fans you guys should recognize how great a character Paulie is and how great Burt Young's performance is. He's a necessary character and realistic.
I wouldn't say Paulie's character is necessary exactly the way he is, but Burt Young is a great actor and the comic relief he brings is good. Some parts of him could be toned down while still keeping his character largely the same, which is what the normies are talking about I believe.

Rocky III? Did we miss that one? It’s quite important to not skip any of the films - they all serve a purpose and have some important context with respect to future Rocky/Creed films. FYI.
One of my all time fave movies that me and my late uncle loved watching together I absolutely love how duke says to rocky "see hes not a machine he's a man!! " And then in the other corner drago says rocky isn't a man... He's like a piece of iron 💪
This was made near the end of the Cold War, and THAT made this movie even BIGGER. Great timing in my opinion. IMO, this is a ROCKY movie that makes EVERYONE smile and appreciate each other. We needed that then and we STILL need it today. Just different circumstances. Great Post, Normies.
I honestly dont know where this Paulie is a racist thing came from. He made comments about feeling unsafe in a poverty and crime riddled area of LA, and not liking the rough, pissed off looking fighters in the gym - his comments were never about black people. Honestly if you were in the most deprived, crime riddled area in the city and walked into a gym and had dozens of people, white or black, staring at you in the way they did last movie, any one of you would feel unsafe.
Rocky 4....means Rocky at it's best, all the success, all the excesses a boxer can get, the cars, the mansion, the ROBOT, etc. But then...then it came Rocky 5.... a boxer's life concluding the circle......please dont miss it!!!
I honestly believe that the reason Apollo Creed decides to fight Drago in this movie is based on the Rocky vs Creed fight at the end of Rocky Three. It is mentioned by Rocky in the first Creed movie that Apollo won the third fight between Rocky and Apollo, and this makes me think that Apollo had started to think that he could get back into boxing, even at a smaller level, especially since he beat the Heavyweight Champion of the World in Rocky at the time. I think that third fight for Apollo brought back some of the cockiness, and pride, and arrogance that we see from Apollo in Rocky One, and this is why Apollo decided to fight Drago in an exhibition match, and these attributes are ultimately what led to Apollo's demise.
Anthropomorphic robots were the jam back then. Flight of the Navigator, Star Wars, Short Circuit, etc. We assumed everyone would have them in the year 2000.
I have no clue what's going on. The description says "Rocky Balboa will be released next weekend" like, are they skipping Rocky V too? It's a whole mess 😭😭
It was probably an accident so they might either take this one down and upload the third one or just post your next week because I think they did something similar if not the exact same when they did Fast and Furious movies
You should’ve watched STALLONE’S director’s cut he worked on during the pandemic. Very measured. Took out the robot. Extra footage. Fit much better in the cannon.
Love the Rocky Movie's and yours all reactions to them. Your excitement is how it was for us back in the day! Saying that, the Gadsden Flag (Don't tread on me) is far from being racist whatsoever. If anything it's Anti- British since it came out around our War for independence from England.... Facts matter....
i was hoping someone would mention this. they spent a lot of time calling Paulie racist and then come out with their own racist bias against that flag (and anyone who would support the sentiment) that was a Revolutionary War motto against England.
@Bob Apjok Exactly. Even that other flag that was on the General Lee didn't have a racist beginning. People can and have used them in various ways but it should diminish what the original intent was.
I read many years ago that Stallone was seriously hurt and had to be hospitalised from a punch in the ribs by Dolph during the filming of the final fight scene
If you notice how rocky always blesses himself before the first bell, when apollo was lowered down to the ring he was in front of a golden bulls head,it was never going to end with him not dying
It's easy for a person not in that situation to throw the towel in. Rocky had the most information of any of us. He felt Apollo could win, because he told him he could win. Every movie before it Rocky had to say don't stop this fight
Apollo had a death wish, he knew when he told Rocky not to stop the fight that Drago was going to kill him. He didn't want to be an old man giving commentary on other people's fights, or be a trainer or a coach. He wanted to go out hearing the crowd chanting his name. And he did.
The Robot was Stallone's idea. It was an early interaction idea for therapy with autistic children if I remember correctly. Stallone has an autistic son and he really connected with the robot so Stallone was like - "put it in the movie"
There's already a couple boxing animes, and great ones. Ashita No Joe and Hajime No Ippo. Michael B Jordan has said he was inspired by Hajime No Ippo (and Dragonball) for the fight sequences in Creed 3.
Stallone re-edited this movie a couple years ago and he took out the robot and added in a bunch of things they couldn't do in the '80s. Dolph really punched Stallone in one scene and sent him to the hospital with a bruised heart.
I'm 59 a woman, and I saw all these movies when they debuted. I've noticed that young people now seem to 'hate' Paulie because he's not this 'perfect' human. You all over look the fact that the Paulie character is product of his generation, and in how he was raised. Yes he has some racist stuff going on...so you have Zero forgiveness in that. But it's not like he's Hateful towards others, he not out to hurt anyone. I love that they have this character in the movies and they show him Warts And All !!! You seem to hammer him for his flaws, but never give him enough credit for the good in him. And over all, he is a good person. ~He's done things like worked his entire life. ~He went about it in a horrible way, but he really did want to see his sister happy, and went out of his way to get Rocky and her together. ~He has good ideas, such as the sponsorship on Rocky's robe in the first movie...he got $3,000, the company he worked for, got recognition, and Rocky got a robe...lol. ~He Snuck Andriann into the ring in the first movie...when the police were trying to keep people out after the fight ended. ~He didn't hesitate to try to help Rocky during the charity fight with the wrestler. Paulie stepped right in and broke a chair across the man's back and was punched in the face for it. ~Paulie Does Care about Rocky and Adrian...and at times he confesses his love for them. And I always get the impression that for him, that's something very hard for him to do...again...probably due to how he was raised. The movies give a lot of hints about Paulie and his life, and I'm not saying he's a likeable character...the character wasn't written to be, but he's also not a piece of shit, his heart is often in the right place, even as he does moan and groan about some things. I also think it shows how much of a better person Rocky is compared to us, as he accepts Paulie, warts and all, and shows you don't have to throw someone away just because they are not perfect people who behave the way you think a person should behave.
Not sure what languages you speak or cultures you are exposed to, but you may be interested to know that many non-american people watch the first Rocky movie because it is considered the best of them. And this may surprise you : they have the opposite reaction about Paulie as young Americans do, they don't hate him. You hear things like "things are looking up for Adrian and Rocky, but this guy works all day at a job he hates, is still single, he's like family to them - but they still won't pick up the phone to try to help him find work? No wonder he is drunk and acting out, he wants to work and improve himself but nobody will talk to Gazo or anything? He has business ideas like with rocky's robe, and everyone is just like, ok , whatever. It's like he's invisible"
True fact: Stallone had requested from Lundgren to punch him as hard as he could so the punches could be as realistic as possible. As a result of this, Stallone was in intensive care for 7-8 days.
The one thing about Rocky IV is that it was a masterclass in product placement . Including the Robot, think about it you mentioned the Maserati the watch and the Robot and there was more. I truly think that a lot of Dragos lines went to Stallons then wife/girlfriend Brigitte Nielsen the actress that played Dragos wife who also took most of Stallons Money in the divorce . V is not as good as the first 4 but it isn't nearly as bad as people say
That robot was originally from Pulsations Night Club, where in the middle of the night, it would come down from a spaceship in the middle of the dance floor and dance w/ people.
There is a ROCKY 4 director´s cut, only two years old. It is called ROCKY VS DRAGO and it is way better than the cinema-version, no robot for example. ROCKY 5 is a little odd, but it brings the series back to "reality". ROCKY 6 is wonderful.
I love how the groups reaction when rocky picks up the Russian is the universal response to that scene. It’s gets me hyped every time. Also, Rocky should’ve thrown in the towel but I think Apollo would’ve still been injured due to the damage he also endured. Hell fighting him ended rocky career.
The Russian threw the ref across the ring earlier, so the towel wouldn't have made a difference. That said, that's the story they're telling so we gotta stick with it.
What happens when an athlete is not ready to retire is Apollo’s problem is why he is not ready to let it go…. And rocky knows his feeling, it’s another avenging apollo, its writing his wrong and regret for it, and you will see it in creed 2

Rocky III? Did we miss that one? It’s quite important to not skip any of the films - they all serve a purpose and have some important context with respect to future Rocky/Creed films. FYI.
it was a double drop, III and IV today, go look
@@EnzoCampos721 Ahhh...there it is. Gracias.
Hope they keep doing two at a time. Rocky 5 & 6 next and then Creed 1 & 2.
Even Rocky V?
@@andrewlevin7586 Yes
"Is that machine accurate?"
Love Micky.

That's my honest reaction when the fight finally turned into a massive war of attrition. Best fight in the Rocky series.
The Don't Tread On Me Flag was our first flag when fighting back against Britain. It's as American as the star spangled banner. Be proud of it.
They are all part of a generation that see racism in everything and believe all of US history is bad.
One of my all time fave movies that me and my late uncle loved watching together
I absolutely love how duke says to rocky "see hes not a machine he's a man!!
Where is Rocky 3? Did they just skip the 3 movie? Because I don’t see it in the channel
ruclips.net/video/flR9r7d9Tgo/видео.html
Haha Watch Spidey starting at 17:15. My guy took a quick nap 😂
I honestly dont know where this Paulie is a racist thing came from. He made comments about feeling unsafe in a poverty and crime riddled area of LA, and not liking the rough, pissed off looking fighters in the gym - his comments were never about black people.
Honestly if you were in the most deprived, crime riddled area in the city and walked into a gym and had dozens of people, white or black, staring at you in the way they did last movie, any one of you would feel unsafe.
literally just watched the rocky 3 reaction and now 4 is out. great sunday
Micky: "You don't go into the ring without a montage". Trademark that
Rocky 4....means Rocky at it's best, all the success, all the excesses a boxer can get, the cars, the mansion, the ROBOT, etc. But then...then it came Rocky 5.... a boxer's life concluding the circle......please dont miss it!!!
When Rocky IV was released, I was just one year old. RIP James Brown and Tony Burton.
LOL 24:49 Spidey always has the best lines!!! 🤣🤣🤣
Well the premise of rocky 3 is really stupid. Let me train my rival and give up my career when i could just have the rubber match instead?
My favourite of the series, was not expecting the double drop today!
After that speech Rocky went and took down the Berlin Wall by punching it enough
Anthropomorphic robots were the jam back then. Flight of the Navigator, Star Wars, Short Circuit, etc. We assumed everyone would have them in the year 2000.
Did we skip Rocky 3?
Literally what I'm wondering
@@codywalsh2075 I don't understand why they skiped Rocky 3...
I have no clue what's going on. The description says "Rocky Balboa will be released next weekend" like, are they skipping Rocky V too? It's a whole mess 😭😭
I think they saw all the movies on Patreon, but they are uploading them to RUclips. I was definitely looking for Rocky III as well
It was probably an accident so they might either take this one down and upload the third one or just post your next week because I think they did something similar if not the exact same when they did Fast and Furious movies
"You dont go into the ring without a montage" 😂😂😂
“He’s taking it straight to the brain now” 🤣
You should’ve watched STALLONE’S director’s cut he worked on during the pandemic. Very measured. Took out the robot. Extra footage. Fit much better in the cannon.
I honestly wished that watched that version I was able to catch it in the movies!
I need to see that now!
It also removed a lot of Nielsen's lines.
@@thorguff Who’s Nielsen?
@@MyBlackandRedCZ Brigitte Nielsen who plays Ludmilla Drago. She was Stallone's wife at the time of shooting the film.
Apollo Creed cured Paulie's racism by kissing him on the cheek in that excited moment at the end of Rocky III.
I've always said, that even if Rocky did throw in the towel. Drago was not stopping. He had already pushed the ref away.
"I think the Robot was unneeded" :D This was its 1st and only film role!
I read many years ago that Stallone was seriously hurt and had to be hospitalised from a punch in the ribs by Dolph during the filming of the final fight scene
“You can juice a lime with that thing” lmao 💀💀💀💀
If you notice how rocky always blesses himself before the first bell, when apollo was lowered down to the ring he was in front of a golden bulls head,it was never going to end with him not dying
It's easy for a person not in that situation to throw the towel in. Rocky had the most information of any of us. He felt Apollo could win, because he told him he could win. Every movie before it Rocky had to say don't stop this fight
Can’t wait for 6 , Rocky Balboa is one of my favorites
No easy way out is my favorite song from the Rocky series
Same. I absolutely adore that scene, always have.
One of mine too and the scene was amazing, my actual favorite is "Sweetest Victory" by Touch though
🤣🤣🤣😭 Juice a lime with that thing!? I can't breathe
Some great quotes in this movie......"If he dies, he dies"...."He's like a piece of iron"
This was the first Rocky I saw in the theaters. The rest I saw on cable repeatedly
Rocky IV ended the cold war. Greatest movie ever made 😂
Boxing anime = Hajime no Ippo - is a great example of that. Also I think Creed 3 has a scene one for one from that anime in it.
Ippo is hilarious at times
such comedy in between fights with the gym bros and coaches
Apollo had a death wish, he knew when he told Rocky not to stop the fight that Drago was going to kill him. He didn't want to be an old man giving commentary on other people's fights, or be a trainer or a coach. He wanted to go out hearing the crowd chanting his name. And he did.
only smart comment here
The ref already tried to stop it and got tossed. It was game over no matter what anyone did at that moment. Drago wasn't gonna stop.
Rocky IV thee best Rocky film by a country mile, more than a country mile.
I love the robot forever!! It was fun watching this movie in the theater when I was little!! Great memories!❤❤❤
The Robot was Stallone's idea. It was an early interaction idea for therapy with autistic children if I remember correctly. Stallone has an autistic son and he really connected with the robot so Stallone was like - "put it in the movie"
Pauline and the bot reminds me of Lando and the droid in Solo.
The steroids they give Drago are the same ones the swim coach got when the Soviet union fell
This video dropped just now... How did you comment a month ago 😢
Early access
"but boys have other needs"
what swim coach ?
@@IaloneAmTHEChoppedONE from Buffy I think
I feel like if Rocky is in real life, we’d hear stories about Creed and Rocky like we did about Pryor and Brando
*flashback to the Rocky 3 frolicking*
People still talk about Rocky as if he was a real Boxer, lmao
There's already a couple boxing animes, and great ones. Ashita No Joe and Hajime No Ippo. Michael B Jordan has said he was inspired by Hajime No Ippo (and Dragonball) for the fight sequences in Creed 3.
This movie hurts a lot cuz of that last one mane. The ocean bro hug hit different. Fav movie honestly. This will comeback in the future
The ocean bro hug is legendary.
Stallone re-edited this movie a couple years ago and he took out the robot and added in a bunch of things they couldn't do in the '80s. Dolph really punched Stallone in one scene and sent him to the hospital with a bruised heart.
9:58 possible the greatest commentary i've ever heard about this movie LOL
The ignorance from the girls about the dont tread on me jacket speaks volumes
Absolutely. After calling Paulie racist several times, they seem to fail to see their own racist bias in there comments.
18:06 “that’s America’s ass”🤣🤣🤣🤣
“He dead as disco!”
Fucking
Dead 💀
That robot was originally from Pulsations Night Club, where in the middle of the night, it would come down from a spaceship in the middle of the dance floor and dance w/ people.
You saw Apollo kids in Rocky 2. Please keep watching you'll enjoy it.
There is a ROCKY 4 director´s cut, only two years old. It is called ROCKY VS DRAGO and it is way better than the cinema-version, no robot for example. ROCKY 5 is a little odd, but it brings the series back to "reality". ROCKY 6 is wonderful.
It’s not often the best movie in a movie franchise is the 4th one
In this world Rocky did make world peace...lol
This is the most iconic rocky movie!
Fun Fact: Nearly an entire third of the run time is Montage
Where rocky 3, did they only release that on patreon or i miss cause i think i dont see any rocky 3 reaction.
Lundgren actually hospitalized Stallone making this movie.
What happens when an athlete is not ready to retire is Apollo’s problem is why he is not ready to let it go…. And rocky knows his feeling, it’s another avenging apollo, its writing his wrong and regret for it, and you will see it in creed 2
My buddy and I started boxing in the parking lot as soon as we got out of the theater after this one.
