Sidious has got to be one of the best and most feared villains in cinema. You can see the fear in so many of the reactors eyes the second those lightsabers come out they know the fights over before it’s started and it’s still one of the best unwinnable fights ever
The part I love the most in this whole fight is that little spin into the ground he does during that opening exchange. He's so in tune with the force, so many moves ahead of their actual strikes, that he can take the time between blocks to decorate the ground just because he relishes the fun and destruction he's about to unleash.
Somthing to remember. Palpatine demolished 4 jedi counsel masters with only one saber which he didnt even need. He gave maul and his brother a huge handicap in this fight.
And what makes Sidious even scarier is the fact that he doesn't like lightsabers at all , he thinks about them as toys that the weak Jedi use and honestly other than Yoda he probably could have ragdolled everybody without a lightsaber , he even outdid Yoda in purely force power so his reasoning is understandable , but he is a sadistic one so I guess he like to give his opponents some hope in a duel like here , he could have crushed both with just force only but he gave them a little hope that they can beat him in a duel, when he got bored he just used the force and dismantled Maul easily , he is nasty
At first glance, it can be assumed darth sidious is a frail and stooped old man, but the power of the dark side flows through one so ruthless, and no grace or skill is lost in age.

True , it does belong to palpatine here but since he has the might of the empire behind him later on he subjugates mandalore by bombing it instead. For him its just another worthless relic with no true value to the sith as he sees it.
No, because they didn't wager the darksaber beforehand. You can lose a battle and still be the rightful wielder, so long as that battle was not FOR the right to rule Mandalore.

I feel so bad for Maul. He was trying to get vengeance on Kenobi, but in reality, he hated Sidious. Sidious killed his brother, and his mother, and yet Maul still reached out for Kenobi. To hate someone to the point you would plead for your own death, is intense.
The finishing strike versus Savage doesn't get enough credit. Palps backed up into a man with a dual saber, no lookies, and struck him down and sheathed his weapons to let the moment sink in.
Also, before doing that he casually sheathed both sabers and started side stepping Savages swings before nonchalantly reactivating them. He had complete control over that interaction.
Monsters?? Yeah right, and Darth Sidious is Freakin' Saint. I bet Sidious Kill Count (directly & indirectly) is ridiculously higher than Maul's & Savage's Kill Count Combined.
@@GRIMLOCK07 Sidious is a saint he even gave job to invalide with asthma. He destroyed the rebel terrorists tried atleast and got rid off the war criminals.

Combined with the red eyes and horns, it does make him look like a demon, hence why the other guy called him a monster. Savage is a hulking brute, and his horns and tattoos only add to his menacing look.
something to think about: this what Sidious holding back, Sidious views lightsabers as pointless tools, he believed one only needed the force, he viewed the weapons as a joke to the point he masters all 7 forms of lightsaber combat out of sheer boredom this fight was one sided even before it began, this was simply Sidious stretching his legs and having a bit of fun, before torturing Maul
This is definitely the 2nd best lightsaber duel from this show. Also, these reactors should read the "Star Wars: Darth Maul - Son of Dathomir" comic book series to learn what happened to Maul after Darth Sidious captured him and before the "Siege of Mandalore" arc.
One thing not too many people realize about this fight is Maul's emotion befroe Sidious electrocutes him. He asks for Mercy. And Maul has shown that he willt ake a warriors death on his actions and origins. So the fact that he asks for Mercy from Sidious shows exactly how terrifying Sidious really is
Yeah that’s exactly what Maul is asking for, a cleans warrior’s death. That is what mercy is here. Maul knows that Sidious is a true sadist who enjoys torture and cruelty. He knows that living means being under Sidious’s care. He is pleading for Sidious to just kill him then and there. Sidious responds with torture instead, showing what is in store for Maul. Truly horrifying!
I think the problem is that Palpatine once had such high hopes for Maul years past. Then he gets "killed" by Jedi and tries to overthrow him later. Like Palpatine must have been an absolute whizz teacher to Maul judging from the Zabrak's skill. Maul started caring about things after his fall which ironically defeated him against Palpatine.
It was obvious who was gonna win the whole time. But I’m glad there was a point in the fight where Maul managed to stagger Sidious backwards (after Savage died). Just goes to show Maul is no joke either
I love how they pointed out he is laughing through this. He is not laughing when fighting Mace Windu or when he is trying to kill Luke. Interesting his laughs when fighting Yoda though.
I think the reason he laughs with Yoda is just the joyous feeling of victory. Plus the mockery of Yoda. He is laughing because he knows that Yoda has already lost, him trying to fight Sidious is pointless and the fact Yoda is still trying makes Sidious laugh. The Jedi have already been killed, Sidious is already in control. Anakin is already turned. Even if Yoda won the Empire still would have risen with Anakin as emperor instead.
What I think is scary is if you go back through and you count the whole entire few minutes that he fights them it's so short it just shows how powerful he is and it just makes it more of a nightmare fuel that this man if he wasn't thrown down that shaft by Vader could have literally destroyed the whole entire galaxy if he's so pleased then watch Revenge of the Sith and watch him fight all of the Jedi ignore Anakin getting they're and his stalemate against mace it just shows he's even more powerful he is and it's horrifying
I love the fight and the reactions but the thought of him picking up Savage's double-bladed Saber as a return to form to his roots and as a way to try and avenge his brother but I love it regardless.
The fact that Palpatine didn't send Grievous and full droid commando, or even Dooku to deal with Maul and Savage means how much of a threat the brothers became. This matter must've been dealt with personally
That’s what I loved about the clone wars show. It wasn’t just “the Jedi council wars” or “the republic wars,” it was about all the characters and stories that took place in that era. You wouldn’t just follow the heroes, but the villains and side characters too. We formed new attachments to people like Savage and were sad when he died, even if he was technically a bad guy
Technically, Savage's death is Maul's fault. Maul knew Sidious was out there, and Maul knew the RULE OF TWO. Which means his former Master would eventually come looking for him & take care of any loose ends. No Rivals, No Witnesses. It's a Sith Thing & Sith Happens.
Does it suck that Palpatine killed Savage? Yeah kind of, Maul and Savage were forced into the service of the Sith with little choices but to die otherwise. But Maul and Savage could have just not tried to create a galaxy-wide crime empire in direct competition to Palpatine. They chose to live by the sword, and Savage died by it
Fun fact it’s not the actually lightsaber that blocks and redirects the lightning, but the force channeled through the lightsaber… mail would have had to at least match the force output of the lightning to really stop or send it back
Savage kinda deserved it. He killed Feral, Trauma, Halsey, Knox, King Katuunko, Morley, Adi Gallia, Oruba the Hutt, and lots of others that we truly loved or not.
What's funny is Palpatine actually hates using lightsabers. He uses them to insult jedi. His force abilities are just that beastly he could've soloed maul and savage without a saber.
Ian McDiarmid was brilliant when it came to showing Palpatine as the puppet master of the prequels, but this is where I bought into Sidious as an actual, four-alarm physical threat.
What's crazy is this whole fight was EASY work to Palps. He was having FUN. And from reading the novels he didn't even LIKE saber work. He felt it was beneath a true sith Lord. He knew ALL 6 forms, BEAT Yoda! But LOST Mace Windu (who had mastered a secret 7th form that actually used the dark side called Vapaad) and just FYI I keep hearing rumors that Windu's story arc is NOT done yet
Always laugh when people say he has 2? Yes in ep3 the one gets knocked out the window and then he still has one to duel Yoda with. So of course he has 2
I'm interested in where the Supreme Chancellor finds time to do flexibility exercises, bc I don't think the Force does that for you but decades-old Sidious still does a backbend to block Savage's blade.
“I never saw Palpatine use lightsabers before.” For real? You never saw the part of Episode III: Revenge of The Sith where Palpatine fought Mace Windu and 3 other Jedi Masters?
Something I noticed.. Palps could have just crushed them when they were thrown against the windows.. he *let* them get down and duel him.. he knew he'd win and decided to toy with them.. Actually I wonder if he did it on purpose to kinda test them.. like was thinking "how useful could they be? let's see" and later just went "welp this Savage is worthless.. but of course my former apprentice still has use"
Palpatine is so powerful that he dominates and destroys lesser opponents easily, the three Jedi that went with Mace Windu, Maul and Savage are powerful but miles below him, even Ahsoka Tano defeated Maul easily, Palpatine would destroy her, he defeats everyone except for Mace and Yoda, even Anakin is beneath him

Exactly what i am trying to say to those who dont know how powerfull he is. His force is enough to kill sith lords…
dude yoda kicked his ass twice wtf are you smoking
@@m3rkbullw0rm48 They only fought once.
@@vietcongwarlord6931 twice.
@@m3rkbullw0rm48 No. I'm right and your wrong. They fought once.
At first glance, it can be assumed darth sidious is a frail and stooped old man, but the power of the dark side flows through one so ruthless, and no grace or skill is lost in age.
I love how easily you can tell who's light-side or dark-side among the reactors.
Honestly this fight is lowkey a sign of respect for maul and savage. They’re so powerful sidious couldn’t even send dooku to deal with them. He knew they were too powerful for dooku so he had to deal with it himself
If Dooku could beat Anakin and Obi Wan and beat Asajj Ventress and the Night Sisters in lightsaber combat, he shouldn't have any problem with Maul and Opress. Enough said.
@@wiiliamhamilton147 so why didn’t palpatine just send Dooku to do it
@@jacksonyon5276 Why would Palpatine send Dooku to do something that he could do himself?
@@wiiliamhamilton147 well then he’d just be doing everything wouldn’t he?
@@jacksonyon5276 I've got news for you, Palpatine has done it all, hasn't he?
Palpatine is like Yoda in a sense, he is so strong with the force, he rarely needs to use his lightsaber to show how powerful and skilled he is, but when he needs to (or rather when he chooses to).....he is all but unstoppable
I do love the pure “Oh Shit!” look Maul has when he realizes who he’s sensing
This kinda also shows how skilled Mace Windu was tbh
I’m a firm believer that he lost to mace on purpose to sway Anakin
@@isilencer8877 but its cânon that He lost in The saber duel He was overpowered by windu i dont know the rest was a act like after windu block his lightning strikes but in The saber duel windu def owned him
@@arthurnikiforck7954 windu has vaapad form to defeat siths…. In duel mace wins but overall with the force palpatine destroyes mace
@@isilencer8877 Yeah, I used to believe that, but Lucas DID say he actually lost to Windu, but it worked perfectly. In reality, Sidious was kind of expecting either a "good" Anakin that followed the Jedi or the one he wanted. The Sith
I mean he is one of the members of the Jedi Council for a reason.
Palpatine looks like he's having a fun time during that fight, lol.
Surprised no one mentioned how this fight is pretty much a total mirror to Maul vs Obi wan and Qui-gon Jinn back in ep 1, or how Maul actually takes up Kenobi's signature stance after recognizing the threat
Biggest flex: Fighting two highly skilled Zabraks at one and laughing like its lightwork.
This is one of the best fight scenes in star wars.
Palpatine's lightsaber form and movement is just insane in this scene. The way he navigates between Maul and Savage is crazy!
does palpatine defeating maul at the end while he was using the darksaber technically make palpatine the rightful owner of the darksaber? obviously he probably wouldn’t want it or even really care, but i guess you could make the argument that after this episode, the darksaber no longer “belongs,” as it were, to maul.
True , it does belong to palpatine here but since he has the might of the empire behind him later on he subjugates mandalore by bombing it instead. For him its just another worthless relic with no true value to the sith as he sees it.
@Chief Millard Johnson good name though 😄
No, because they didn't wager the darksaber beforehand. You can lose a battle and still be the rightful wielder, so long as that battle was not FOR the right to rule Mandalore.
@@prestonjones1653 i don’t think moff gideon wagered the darksaber to mando did he? he just explains it’s significance. mando even said he didn’t want it but he’s still the rightful owner right? or is gideon?
@@captainkenway6571
Well we do see the Darksaber resisting Mando, so maybe it is rightfully Gideon's, or maybe the rule doesn't apply to non-Mandalorians.
I feel so bad for Maul. He was trying to get vengeance on Kenobi, but in reality, he hated Sidious. Sidious killed his brother, and his mother, and yet Maul still reached out for Kenobi. To hate someone to the point you would plead for your own death, is intense.
1:53 me too
The finishing strike versus Savage doesn't get enough credit.
Palps backed up into a man with a dual saber, no lookies, and struck him down and sheathed his weapons to let the moment sink in.
Also, before doing that he casually sheathed both sabers and started side stepping Savages swings before nonchalantly reactivating them. He had complete control over that interaction.
Prefect fight between Darth Sidious and two monsters
Monsters?? Yeah right, and Darth Sidious is Freakin' Saint.
I bet Sidious Kill Count (directly & indirectly) is ridiculously higher than
Maul's & Savage's Kill Count Combined.
@@GRIMLOCK07 yeah sidious is pure evil and one with the dark side… but savage and maul look like monsters😂
@@huhad8276Look like Monsters?? I'm sure to their own species they look perfectly normal.
You're opinion is from a certain point of view.
@@GRIMLOCK07 Sidious is a saint he even gave job to invalide with asthma. He destroyed the rebel terrorists tried atleast and got rid off the war criminals.
@@GRIMLOCK07 At least with Maul, his tattoos are not Nightbrother tattoos like how his species has, they are Sith tattoos, almost demonic, and they were painfully applied by Palpatine himself to Maul. Combined with the red eyes and horns, it does make him look like a demon, hence why the other guy called him a monster. Savage is a hulking brute, and his horns and tattoos only add to his menacing look.
4:29 To answer Alyska, that was the power given by Mother Talzin to Savage.... which is now leaving him.
Imagine palpatine trained his abilities and he rarely have chance to use them , of course he enjoying this
something to think about:
this what Sidious holding back, Sidious views lightsabers as pointless tools, he believed one only needed the force, he viewed the weapons as a joke to the point he masters all 7 forms of lightsaber combat out of sheer boredom
this fight was one sided even before it began, this was simply Sidious stretching his legs and having a bit of fun, before torturing Maul
I love how right before he offs Savage, it looks like he's dancing.
I just realized that when maul ignited his lightsaber after being pushed against the window
He went into the soresu stance like obi wan
I think the problem is that Palpatine once had such high hopes for Maul years past. Then he gets "killed" by Jedi and tries to overthrow him later. Like Palpatine must have been an absolute whizz teacher to Maul judging from the Zabrak's skill. Maul started caring about things after his fall which ironically defeated him against Palpatine.
It was obvious who was gonna win the whole time. But I’m glad there was a point in the fight where Maul managed to stagger Sidious backwards (after Savage died). Just goes to show Maul is no joke either
when he screamed UNLIMITED POWER, mf MEANT IT ❤🔥
I love how they pointed out he is laughing through this.
Its nice to see that the live action shows are drawing people to Clone Wars and Rebels
The fact that Palpatine didn't send Grievous and full droid commando, or even Dooku to deal with Maul and Savage means how much of a threat the brothers became. This matter must've been dealt with personally
The disrespect when he kills Savage, doesnt even look at him when he runs him through
That’s what I loved about the clone wars show.
Im pretty sure Sidious viewed this as a nice little vacation from being chancellor
Sidious vs Maul and Savage is like Hikaru pre-moving Mate in 20 while blindfolded.
OP and Pure Evil Complete Monster in a nutshell...
I just realised Sidious didn't kill Maul cause Maul was needed to distact Ashoka when Anakin was going to go to the Dark Side
Nah lmao he needed him to kill Mother Talzin (Canon in the comics)
Maul can call Savage appretence as much as he wants but at the end of the end of the day he just wanted to take over with his bro
Meanwhile Palpatine is gonna be killed by Rey...
Bad writing and plot armor… the most powerfull sith being killed by a girl with no training
@@huhad8276That's why people should forget about the sequel trilogy.
Palpatine really hit savage with the 1 2 3 wombo combo 💀💀
I wish they would do a 4-6 episode series like tales of the jedi that takes pace between this and season 7. It deserves more than a comic
The Son of Dathomir comic should be made into a 4 part animated limited series.
2:09 I get the idea that sidious lost his first lightsaber from mace windu and kept the spare lightsaber from fighting yoda.
@thetjbucy makes sense. But, mace windu is dead.
"To be honest mual and Savage deserve that because they killed a lot of Jedi"
How did everyone feel for Savage🥺 sad for a brother to die in Maul’s hands
Technically, Savage's death is Maul's fault.
Maul knew Sidious was out there, and Maul knew the RULE OF TWO.
Which means his former Master would eventually come looking for him & take care of any loose ends. No Rivals, No Witnesses. It's a Sith Thing & Sith Happens.
"Those who ask for mercy are too weak to deserve it" Darth Bane
Maul is no one to underestimate. He can compete in lightsaber combat but palpi is too OP with the force
This is why Darth Sidious has a claim to the darksaber.
That's what happens when you break the rule of two.
Does it suck that Palpatine killed Savage? Yeah kind of, Maul and Savage were forced into the service of the Sith with little choices but to die otherwise. But Maul and Savage could have just not tried to create a galaxy-wide crime empire in direct competition to Palpatine. They chose to live by the sword, and Savage died by it
Ian McDiarmid maybe the GOAT when it comes to Sidious but Ian Abercrombie performance gave us a powerful but terrifying Sidious
The music perfectly encapsulates fighting Sideous, pure horror.
if Maul had only teamed up with Mother Talzin when he took over Mandalor, he'd have had a chance at getting rid of Sidious
if only he used a lightsaber to block the force lightning, palpatine would have killed himself
True
No chance to do that, he dissarmed him and his durability is good for palpatines age
Fun fact it’s not the actually lightsaber that blocks and redirects the lightning, but the force channeled through the lightsaber… mail would have had to at least match the force output of the lightning to really stop or send it back
Maul and Savage fight for their lives, meanwhile Sidious is just having a day off from his office works.
Savage kinda deserved it.
He killed Feral, Trauma, Halsey, Knox, King Katuunko, Morley, Adi Gallia, Oruba the Hutt, and lots of others that we truly loved or not.
Darth Sidious was so OP and a savage in this episode of Star Wars the Clone Wars
I sometimes wonder if this scene was karma vibe-checking Maul.
I’d love to sit on the couch and watch something with the Gaxelle AIR USE group.
Palpatine was just playing dude lol
Alyska's best reaction.
Maul and Savage: fighting for their lives
Palpatine: Cutting the floor makes me look cool
What's funny is Palpatine actually hates using lightsabers. He uses them to insult jedi. His force abilities are just that beastly he could've soloed maul and savage without a saber.
Those poor mandalorians they had no idea what they was getting into. They in the middle of someone else’s mess 😂😂😂
Ian McDiarmid was brilliant when it came to showing Palpatine as the puppet master of the prequels, but this is where I bought into Sidious as an actual, four-alarm physical threat.
Palpatine was just having fun because he hasn't fought for ages.
About Savage Remember he was enhanced by night sister magic that's why he turns gaseous Green.. As he offgases
One thing i noticed, is that Palpatine kills Savage the way Maul killed Qui-Gon, disorienting him and stabbing him in the stomach.
I'm genuinely curious what would have happened if Sidious never stepped in and dealt with Maul
By Mandalorian customs, this would make Sidious the owner of the darksaber and the rightful ruler of Mandalore.
