It wouldn’t have come to that if Obi Wan had allowed Anakin to be himself instead of trying to force Anakin into a Jedi mold that the council wanted, a mold that would never suit Anakin. Anakin needed more freedom without the constraints of the Jedi code and an outlet for his feelings. Also Obi Wan should’ve tried being more compassionate and understanding towards Anakin.

That's also why they thought he was too old at 9 to start training. If a Jedi is taken as a newborn, no way to create those attachments like Anakin has with his mother. The politics are pretty straight forward. At the start of the film, a number of systems (the Separatists, led by Count Dooku) have broken their allegiance to the Republic. At this point, both Padme and the Jedi think they can negotiate a peaceful solution to the political unrest. What they don't know is that Count Dooku is secretly working with the Sith to start an intergalactic war. While the Separatists are busy building a droid army, the Clone Army has been secretly built on the behalf of the Republic - a very convenient coincidence which comes in handy just when the Jedi and Republic need it the most. The Clone Wars are the war between the Separatists and their battle droid army and the Republic and their Clone trooper army, led by the Jedi. Also, notice that the Sith at the end are happy that a galactic war has begun. This is what they were working towards from the very moment the Trade Federation blockaded Naboo in the first movie

Something they don’t talk about in the movies really is that Anakin had a hard time between 1 & 2. Many other younglings and padawans disliked him because he was so naturally gifted and was ahead of them even though he started at a much later age. And the council was always cautious about his fast growth and skill. At one point he seriously considered leaving the order because he was so frustrated with everything and confused about his place in the galaxy, but ultimately obi wan convinced him to stick with it. I feel like that explains a little more about his arrogance and frustration in his late teens

"It's all Obi-Wan's fault! He's holding me back!"
Kind of true. Obi-Wan knew about the dreams, how Ani worried about his mother but chose to tell Ani to ignore it instead of learning how to handle his emotions. Fear is a path to the Dark Side. Acting on that fear (going the Tatooine to check on her) could lead to the Dark Side. Arguably, saving people from needless suffering is what the Jedi should do, yet they are often depicted to just sit around, doing nothing. That would be awfully frustrating for Anakin.
Yoda uses his cane most of the time because he doesn't "abuse" using the Force to enhance his physical self constantly.
"Begun, the Clone War has." It was only a name-drop for what the war is called. The Republic is using clones to fight the Separatists droids. The Clone Wars is also an animated series taking place between Episode 2 and 3. It's a huge part of Star Wars and great for content and views after you've seen Episode 3, if you are okay with watching "a children's cartoon" (it's pretty dark and mature, despite the animated style).
For fans, there's a huge difference between Clone Troopers and Stormtroopers. It's not explained at all in the movies alone. Your confusion is understandable. You'll need to watch other media to learn the difference.

  • @brianalambert1192
    @brianalambert1192 Месяц назад +4

Anakin was a special case for the Jedi. The Jedi forbid attachment because they worry that such feelings could lead to the dark side. Their solution at this point in time is to induct children as toddlers before they can form attachments to their families and then raise them in an environment where they're basically told to meditate their problems away. Jedi aren't really taught to deal with their emotions, they're mostly taught to ignore them (the Jedi were not perfect at this point in time, and not just because of this philosophy)
Anakin had already experienced attachment and because he was naturally attuned to the Force, he was leagues ahead of a lot of other Jedi children his age and yet he was behind in a lot of educational things that they knew due to being a slave. This resulted not only in his arrogance in his Force abilities, because he did legitimately feel like he understood things the others didn't, but also in him not really being able to form friendships with the other Jedi children and a number of them bullied him because of his background. So he was isolated, yet knew attachment, in an environment where they don't teach you how to deal with your emotions but just tell you to ignore them.
It's for this reason that Qui Gon was the one who needed to train him for this boy to have any chance; he understood where Anakin was coming from, had already established a rapport with him, and didn't always follow the Jedi teachings, so he would have been able to give Anakin the emotional support he needed.
Obi Wan did his best, and it's not a fault to him. It's just he was not the one Anakin needed. He was young and inexperienced and more importantly he was very traditional in following the Jedi teachings.
There's actually a wonderful comic that sums up their relationship. The long and short of it is Anakin 2 years into his training is frustrated with being part of the Jedi for the reasons I described and wants to go on missions with Obi Wan. He effectively says to Obi Wan who is about to go on another mission without him "Go on then! I know you don't want me around. But it's not my fault that you got stuck with me when Qui Gon died." The comic happens, they have their adventure and Obi Wan sits Anakin down and tells him "I never felt that I got stuck with you. Rather, I always felt that you were the one who got stuck with me." That's the foundation of their relationship

Hands, arms and legs are pretty easy to conceal for a low budget in special effects, it's been done on stage for centuries.
The scene between Anakin and Padmé outside upon their arrival on Naboo has been indeed fllmed on the Plaza de Espana in Sevilla. The Palace interior, as for Phantom Menace on the other hand was filmed in Caserta Palace, near Naples, a palace once occupied by French Marshal Murat during the Napoleonic Era, since he was "King of Naples."
The Empire replaced expansive Clone Troopers by cheap conscripts that are less efficient overall. In fact the term "Grande Army" is directly taken from Napoleon's Grande Armée.
Dooky used reverse psychology, telling Obi-Wan the truth so he wouldn't believe him.
Dooku's lightning is blue, not purple, meaning it's less powerful than the Emperor's.

A few "fun" thoughts about Anakin here. Remember, he was "too old" to begin training - largely because he had grown up with great attachment to his mother (which is normal for non-jedi). Young Anakin said he had a dream that he returned to Tatooine and freed all of the slaves. He has been plagued by these dreams/visions of his mother, suffering, for a while now - so, I think that is why he is really out of sorts by the time they are on Naboo. Add, on top of that, the Jedi Order mandates he not have these emotional attachments and that he should not rush to save his mother. I mean, he's already intense and problematic, I'm sure, but we're seeing him under the most pressure in this movie.
Anyway, just my nerdy fan thoughts about his mental and emotional state, leading into this movie. 😆 Great watching this with ya!

The notoriously most maligned of the George Lucas six part saga. So much great world building and nuance and ironically my introduction to the saga in theaters. Dooku asks Kenobi to join him much like Vader did to Luke in the second act and Palpatine gages Yoda’s power by asking him if it will come to war among the first few opening scenes. There’s a litany of details within specific scenes here that is more than the entire sequel trilogy.

You have to be careful online with many people who watch these videos. Many people don't understand the context in which we watch movies from different eras. From the perspective of VFX and SFX these movies are the beginning of a change in filming styles. You mix real live character and VFX characters because of many filming reasons but the biggest reason during this time was that it was a new technology that you could do so much with. The prequel trilogy was the beginning of the end of SFX as a main way to film and the start of the rapid technology growth of VFX. Most of the prequel movies were still paintings and makeup and camera tricks but because of the work of Industral Light & Magic (Lucas' SFX and VFX company) and many of the people who left and created their own companies, movies post 2000 had the options of using more and more VFX. Now over 20 years later we have completely computer generated worlds and whole scenes and actors that do not have to have prosthetics or makeup because it can be done in post with VFX. VFX is also very costly but can be cost saving because you don't have to pay actors as extras and makeup people. The drawback is a movie like Avatar or a TV series like Fallout or any of the Marvel or Star Wars can cost in the millions per minute of VFX. Wait until you get to The Mandalorian or Obi Wan or Ashoka where much of the filming is done in The Volume which is a new technology that has ended the need to shoot on location or with elaborate paintings. Technology has really changed filming. To be honest there are TV shows like Peaky Blinders you may think have no VFX but if you know the behind the scenes production you would be surprised what is done in VFX now.

Let's untangle this web of intrigue.
10 years ago, Dooku left the jedi and joined the dark side, secretly becoming Darth Tyrannus.
Right before leaving, Dooku manipulated Syfo Dyas to order the creation of the clone army, and then he killed him.
In his guise as Tyrannus Dooku hired Jango Fettt.
At the same time, in his public persona as Dooku, he uses his considerable influence to begin the secessionist movement, and they create their Droid army.
Dooku's Sith master is Darth Sidious (the pre-emperor) who is also the Chancellor. They are engineering the Clone War, secretly behind both sides. Sidious is using the dark side to cloud the perception of the jedi so they can stay hidden and their machinations stay undiscovered until it's too late.

Looking back now, i still think practical effects with puppets and prosthetic makeup is superior for two reasona: the so-called uncanny valley and the fact that cgi characters dont have the "weight" of practical characters as well as the fake textures that somehow just arent quite right. They try so hard for realism that our minds reject it rather than working artistically with limitations.

Obi-Wan is actually a skilled pilot. He can dislike it and still be very good at it. Obi-Wan gained his level of skill in many things through much practice and training rather than straight natural gift. It's probably one of the reasons he's so highly regarded amongst the Jedi. If we consider the book Master and Apprentice there was a nerve wracking incident that made him not like flying. I can't recall at the moment if that book is canon or not though - it's hard to keep track what is. But if you watch him fly verses listening to his words you see he's a strong pilot - not the best in the galaxy but he holds his own.

You are right to think Count Dooku looks like Actor Charles Dance. The Actor Christopher lee was Ian Fleming's Cousin. (the author of the James Bond Books/the real james bond) and Charles Dance played Ian Fleming in a Biographic movie in the late 80's or early 90's. James Bond was Fleming's fantasy version of himself and initially he wanted his cousin to play as Bond in the movies since they already looked alike, and also cast him as Dr. No. This didn't work out but years later Christopher lee played a kind of dark mirror version of bond as the titular character in "The Man with The Golden Gun." Incidentally because of this resemblance Charles Dance was also considered to play as bond.

Anakin went where the Council ordered, did what they wanted, killed for them, risked death, was kept isolated from his peers/any outside influence, was allowed only a bare basics education in using the Force, and they expected him to remain absolutely calm at all times with no attachments, possesions, or personal savings allowed so he served them and their goals under the expectation he would speak only when spoken to, go to locations only with their permission using either their money or their ships, bow before them in submission, was punished for defending himself physically or verbally from any Jedi peers, and he did this without pay/compensation/vacation while being disrespected, held to the highest standards, and with the leaders of the Order admitting plainly to him that they don't like, approve of, or trust him. Its implied by Obi-Wan's "Remember you've made a commitment to the Jedi Order, a commitment NOT easily broken" that Anakin would not be allowed to resign or leave the Jedi except by expulsion on his way to their secret prison. They told him "the Jedi are your family, we are a brotherhood that support and help one another" yet treated him like excrement on their boot, allowed bullying against him, and expected him to do whatever, whenever without thanks; ignoring he was the only one with an outside perspective and actually had a family so he saw their b.s. immediately. They broke their own rules blatantly in front of him yet punished him whenever he wavered even slightly. Honestly, Obi and him only stayed because of Qui-Gon's wishes/Obi not knowing any other kind of life. Oh, and they did treated him this way knowing he had been a slave while claiming they championed freedom/anti-slavery ideals but insisted he call everyone of them "Master", refused to allow him to free slaves or challenge the Hutts, and controlled every single aspect of his life, telling him how fortunate he was that he was allowed to be among them, that he should not have been trained, and that he is the Chosen One meanwhile also explicitly ordering him to sit back, do nothing, and wait while they tried to achieve the objective they percieved as the reason he had been born for. It was the equivalent of the Catholic Church disrespecting Jesus, instructing Him to only call them master, teach Him only the basics needed to scrub their floors, allow no time to socialize outside of a Church, then constantly preach about how wise and virtuous the Chruch is, how holy and transcendent they are; all the while patting themselves for abolishing slavery while casually accepting missions from politicians with collared SLAVE GIRLS in his place of office after watching him laughing and hugging the Hutt you saw slithering pass you in the waiting room, then getting mad and disrespect Jesus because he pointed out their hypocrisies and tried to convince them to actually do something that no one could argue would be a truly good and noble deed that would make the galaxy a better place at the same time as securing the wealth of the notoriously evil dynasties, their lands, and industrial empires to the benefit the Church while literally freeing up a third of Creation for future entitlements, homesteads, and pioneers. Oh, and He marries Mary Magdeline but still can't leave because the Church and some genuinely good people NEED him to lead armies and go to war so the Church and the governments don't have to endure the consequences of their actions whilst He STILL has to accept and obey orders that He knows are bad ideas/dangerous to the war effort; critical of His performances and distrustful of Him and the people whom are actually out there fighting- again without pay or any benefit to their lives beyond food and board. I am not exaggerating in pointing out that is the Star Wars equivalent of what Anakin's story is.

Jedi aren't allowed to form romantic attachments because the fear of losing that person could tempt to the dark side. It's never mentioned in the movies but the director has said in interviews that Jedi aren't strictly forced to be celibate but most do just because of how difficult it is to have a physical relationship and not form some type of attachment.
There's one Jedi on the council (the guy with the cone shaped head) who has multiple wives and children as a special exception because his species is declining so he was allowed to procreate to help keep his species alive, on the condition that he stayed out of their lives as much as possible to avoid getting too attached.

But I know I, and my friends, picked up on Palpatine within the Phantom Menace. But we knew the actor so well from seeing RotJ so many times and such. Also, yeah, Dooku was being tricksy and playing/lying to the different sides, until we saw who his master truly was at the end. A very convincing performance he gave Obi-Wan though. They believed that it would become a dictatorship, an sense the jedi are basically in service to the republic senate, the separatists chose to combine all their resources to create the largest droid army in the history of the galaxy. Technically the republic started the war when they had Obi-Wan go to geonosis ( a planet that wasn't ever part of the republic to begin with ) and was caught both spying and trespassing on a non-republic planet. I agree that Anakin comes off cocky. But you have to understand he’s like the most talented Jedi ever. And he is still treated like a little kid. So while he needs to be more respectful and reserved, he also has a little bit of a reason to be arrogant.

That was one of the big gripes about Anakin writing as character, they made him so whiny and just had red flags everywhere. It should have been painfully obvious he need therapy or something to everyone around him. It made no sense imo for Padma to fall for him, he just oozes creep vibes.

It seems you got it mostly figured out by the editing. Keep in mind that all these dots have to get connected by the end of the next movie, so the clock was ticking on Lucas to get all the players in position plot-wise. Throughout the prequels, things are to my mind a little force-fitted (pun unavoidable) to do so. The chancellor/emperor/fingers-pointing-at-the-sith dynamic gets clarified soon because it has to. Maybe you have figured it out completely, but in case you haven't I'll shut up here.
One thing to note, stormtroopers are not clones, they stopped that practice between Episode III and IV and just recruited regular people.
