just chillin on a truckbed and eating bbq straight from the paper is the American dream lol
It's a Texas way of life.
@@rundoetx now if only it stayed under 100F I’d love living there lol
@spartan1010101 108 all this week in my town
@@rundoetx that’s gonna have to be a naw from me dawg. Lmao
@spartan1010101 i'll eat some brisket for you, lol
Thumbnail brisket looks juicy. PSA: Every town should have a mandatory BBQ drive thru. A good one.
'had to be careful how I spelled BBQ. Didn't want to give the wrong idea of a good drive thru ...
😂😂😂
I’ve never heard of this before but I wish we had one around me or I just wish I lived in Texas
So everyone can get fatter yea smart 😂
@@rafaelgonzalez7230 so, eat responsibly. They aren't making you spend your money. Self control. You can do it. I believe in you.
25 years ago, we moved from Austin to Colorado. Since day one, the thing we miss the most is HEB (and their upscale version Central Market). They did not sell BBQ back then, but I'm sure it's awesome, because everything about HEB is awesome. On the other hand, we do not miss the extreme heat and humidity, fire ants, mosquitos, fleas, scorpions, and traffic. There's always a trade-off...
Way better beer in Colorado too. For how big Texas is their beer game is kinda sad.
@@RYTF5 Texas has focused on vodka, rather than beer. I started brewing my own beer around 9 months ago. Ironically, I get most of my supplies and clone recipes from Austin Home Brew. I make Chimay Blue and Stone IPA. They taste exactly like the real thing, for about 20% of the cost.
You got the better end of that deal. You can always learn to cook BBQ if you spend the time and effort. Enjoy the Rockies.
@@78thedayafter I can absolutely cook my own BBQ, but it is difficult to scale it down for just 3 people. Brisket or a whole turkey is out of the question:(
@@Inigo_The_Son beef shoulder roast tastes very similar to brisket if smoked the same
I was born and raised in Northeast Austin. Been gone 30 years, but every time I go home, the first place I go is HEB. I miss HEB. There's no other place in the world like it. You making me homesick, and hungry.
…and peach cobbler too. I don’t know how you do it. I’ve seen other Texas cooking channels, but with you it’s like someone downloaded exactly everything I love about Texas food from my brain and put it on RUclips.
That’s the H‑E‑B down the street from where I live. Glad to see you make a trip. Originally grew up in Brownsville, saludos! Love the videos
My brother was pit Master that day you went, his work is definitely perfect and delicious 👌🏼
Cool. They built a new HEB in Cibolo, and I thought they were going to put the True Texas BBQ there, but they didn't.Bummer .The one on Bulverde Road in SA has it.
"Is Anybody Goin' to San Antone" was released by Charlie Pride in February 1970. It hit #1 on the U.S. Hot Country Songs (Billboard) chart. They called him the "Pride" of country music back then. I saw him several times at the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo.
I remember that one as a kid out in the west Texas dsesert lol.
Looks good and tasty guys. When they station us in Texas HEB is the first place I go for supplies and groceries.
I was truly shocked at how good H-E-B BBQ was. It is not my favourite, but it is up there. Kreutz BBQ in Lockhart is my favourite, but H-E-B gets me 95% of the way there.
HEB is priced like the TOP BBQ joints (like Franklins) which is ridiculous.
Yeah it’s not a shocker. HEB over charges for the BBQ when you have better options here in South Austin. I tried this one on South Congress but just better if you go somewhere else nearby.
Kreutz is serious bbq. There smokehouse portion of the restaurant is insane. Those workers be putting in that work in that heat
@@bennnnu380 You must be pretty young and "new" to Central TX BBQ, Kreuz is the 3rd best BBQ joint in Lockhart. And its building is barely 20 yrs old. Smitty's is by far the oldest and most iconic and cool building and pits in town (built 1900) and Blacks (since 1932) serves the best brisket by FAR.
@@steveludwig4200 everything you said was an opinion and had no relation to anything I stated.
Something so heartwarming watch a 5.7ft middle aged man eat bbq on a car. Don't know why but just find this so relaxing. What a lovely guy. 🎉
I miss three things from Texas, the BBQ, Enchanted Rock state park, and the view from the living room of 808 Edgecliff Terrace.
I just tried HEB bbq down here in McAllen and I was impressed. In my eyes if I can find anything to complain about was the seasoning. It could of used a little extra coat, and I love the sausage. Smoked 2 packs last night with some chicken leg quarters. Beef and Jalapeño Cheddar
Arnie Tex definitely a better source for BBQ information than "Texas" monthly
Can remember when Texas Monthly, for years, drew a 30 mile circle around Austin and then proclaimed the few joints within said circle was "The best in Texas". I lived in Austin in the very early '70's and there were only a couple of mediocre places in town. We'd drive to Lockhart or Coupland on the weekends for good bbq.
Really sad how big an audience some of those clickbait tier publications get. That's why we gotta like and share GREAT bbq info like this! I'm glad you said this comment my friend
I've never seen an HEB here in Houston, that has a drive thru barbeque restaurant!
You guys are awesome! I’m sure y’all’s kids are proud to have parents like y’all, and the cooking as well of course!
I love your work, brother. Keep doing what you’re doing!
I live in SA, near a H‑E‑B with true Texas BBQ restaurant. This is our go to for BBQ. Probably top 5 in the city
I used to bike to this HEB all the time. I moved to a different side of town recently, but H‑E‑B kills it with their BBQ. Some of the best in town and their prices are excellent.
I had no idea HEB had drive thru BBQ. I need to drive over and get me some! Thanks for the review!
Some of the newer stores do. You have to check.
My family moved from Corpus Christi in 1985. My father worked for HEB bakery. I've always talked about going back to visit and after watching this video I'm really missing Texas!
Man their pulled pork sandwich is probably one of my favorites I've ever had
Their sauces are really good too
My wife is from San Angelo and loves watching you on RUclips! Makes her miss home. Thanks for making such awesome videos!!
We need more review videos .Excellent work Arnie.
We had a new HEB open here in Georgetown that has one of these BBQ places even with outside covered seating. Looking forward to trying it.
What's it called, I live 20 minutes away from Georgetown.
I misread and misheard, it's HEB's BBQ? Nice.
It’s really good.
Good to know. Next time I'm driving thru Texas I'm pulling my big rig right into HEB for some bbq. Yasss!!! Thank you for the info.
We stop at the HEB in Plano when we come down from Kansas to visit family. We got HEB bbq last trip and it was really good as well. Better than I was expecting! The brisket and sausage 👍👍
You’ve been challenging me to get my barbecue game happening by having such legit, quality recipe/review videos
I got a True Texas BBQ down the street, as much I love great brisket joint, HEB is great for a quick fix. Better than a lot of the chain BBQ places in Texas.
They do have some good BBQ, usually carry some local brewery beer as well. It’s not cheap by any means, but better than most chain restaurants.
Arnie honestly looks like the best dad anyone could ever have. Much love from far away
I live close by that H‑E‑B and its never let me down and I visit way to often.
ERNIE, your videos are always excellent, and this was a very good one. Namaste!
Great video Arnie! H.E.B should sponsor you because I'm sure this video is going to make alot of people head over there! VAMANOS!!!!!!!
We are leaving south Texas next year. I will miss HEB the most. I wish we had an HEB down here with the bbq place.
gosh im heree in cali for the summeera and i do miss HEB
Brother, you are sitting there on the tailgate enjoying the lean brisket and over your shoulder the driver door comes open....I was like OH NO... Saw more your grilling videos, more stuff, true TEX-MEX since I was from SA and , after military (AM), had to settling in IL (funny story on its own). Please keep it up, love it! Nice to have a comfort of home and then how home has changed if that makes any sense, but the food is still crazy good. Thank you.
It's very good for how convenient it is! Love that you came to ATX.
GREAT video! Dang you guys were at my new favorite HEB in South Austin. I wish I would have met y'all. When are y'all going to do a meet and greet in Austin?
6:59 can you go in the detail when you say balance? Do you mean like the sugar? Or the peaches?
Balance in everything you eat, BBQ, desserts and everything else.
i heard they have a grocery store also in TExas. I looked it up online they dont have a location near me in california thats to bad
The problem that I have with bbq restaurants in tx is there’s so many fake joints like Dickey’s all over the state that make me skeptical to just try a new place without a referral.
The potatoe salad was a throwback my mom used to do it mustard and pickels and everyone always wanted her to make it. Since she's past a couple years ago, my sister and wife make it the way she did and only on special occasions.
I wish we had H.E.B.’s in Southern California! Every time I go to visit family in SE Texas I bring home a suitcase full of smoked sausages and boudin. I think a quick 3 day weekend trip is in my near future 😎
What do your CA friends think about boudain? 😅
@@AndrewCrankypants They all love it! It’s exotic to them, but for me it taste like my Moms cooking that I can’t get anymore
@@1gx619 That’s awesome. I moved to Austin from Port Neches. We were lucky to move very very near a donut shop that sells boudain kolaches. Those really remind me of home.
If this place is Arnie-approved, I’m totally going!
Man, peach pie or cobler is the best... Thanks for reminding me, I think I'll make one tomorrow. Great vid.
8:12 dance you know it's good! I can watch you eat bbq all day! Good vibes!
Wait so this is a bbq drive through at HEB in Austin? How have I never heard of this?? 🤨
Making me miss Texas! We do have good BBQ in Oklahoma too though.
Thank you for your review. I learned about barbeque at school Texas A&M.
I've had the HEB lean brisket and ribs from the Mueller location, and it's shockingly great. For any Texas barbecue snob, like me, really worth a try.
Hey Ernie., HEB on 10th and Trenton has BBQ also.
You prolly already know that.
It's damn good.
And they God beer on tap.
I live North west of Austin and have been wondering about the HEB offering. I 100% trust your opinion after hearing the Charlie Pride at the end there. Gonna go give it a try.
Glad she didn't give you a hard time about the moist. Also glad you went back for it.
Better not he spent $77 bucks😂
Every city/town needs an HEB
thanks for the videos Arnie.. BBQ like this is not something we have in CAlifornia so it is nice to see what were missing out on! lol I will be in texas later this year or early next year.. cant wait to try these places
Those are great looking ribs. I personally have a rib addiction. And I agree that no amount of sauce can make bad BBQ meat good. It CAN make it go down easier but it still tastes like sadness and disappointment.
Good BBQ doesn't need sauce at all. It has enough flavor and is juicy enough on its own.
Ive seen you sit on a tailgate for many meals. Thats a true Texan ya'll.
One of the big HEB Pluses opened up by my parents' place north of Austin and apparently it's got a BBQ place in it. Haven't gotten an opportunity to go down and try it yet, but my brother says it's really good
Bro . . HEB was really impressive for grocery store BBQ . . and the price was freaking awesome!
all of that looked really good. The only problem I have with most of the turkey you buy at a place is that it is too dry which means I usually make a sandwich with a sauce or such on it.
Thanks for your review. I've been wondering how their BBQ was and now I have to try it.
Freaking fantastic brother! I didn't know HEB was starting to sell BBQ. I think they're doing it at Georgetown new location so this is a must for me!
Awesome review! I used to live in Austin and this brought back good memories of Texas BBQ and HEB. Rudy's was always a go to for some good no nonsense central TX BBQ!
Arnie, I used your OG rub on some ribeyes yesterday, your OG rub smells amazing and the ribeyes were off the chain - 🙌🙌
The only local BBQ joint in my area *coughs* Willacy County.. always gives me heartburn.. I think they run dirty smoke when cooking.. Been there several times and tried different cuts and meats and it's the only place that'll give me heartburn.
Uh….what the heck! Our H‑E‑Bs here close to Houston don’t have that! I feel robbed! Does SA have them at least so I can tell my son since he lives there or is it just Austin?
Hey Ernie I wish I was your neighbor and if a friend, that would be awesome. Thanks for your inspiring videos.❤
Welcome back to Austin!
Oooh poop, I left the valley too soon. Would've loved pulling up to an HEB drive through to get me some bbq... Argh!
This video made me check the coolant in my truck 😂. Your videos are pretty dam good. Thanks for the smile
Hahahaha, when your on the road as much as we are it's always good to be prepared, either for yourself or someone else on the side of the road.
I have a friend who works at the local H-E-B, and I asked her about the BBQ restaurant in the store, and she said it was pretty average. Maybe she had it on a bad day, or that location is sub-par. Hey, I love Cooper's BBQ in Llano, but the brisket I got at Cooper's in Fort Worth was dry and chewy. Different locations of the same BBQ joint can be very different in quality.
Totally true and also some people just cannot be fair minded, one lady here said that in 39 years she has never had good bbq in Texas, lol. i really don't think the bbq is the problem in that cases, especially after she ended the comment saying she owned a restaurant / grill place. smh.
I just had some of HEB’s brisket yesterday and It was pretty good! Didn’t really care for the potato salad though! Thanks for the review!
Yessss I love H‑E‑B I’ll choose H‑E‑B over Walmart. We don’t have one in manor yet but they are building one 🎉🎉🎉 but the closest one is 15 mins away in Elgin 😭 and the BBQ is sooooo goood!!!
We need to get OG in our stores, I work in the meat market and im going to talk with leadership to get you in. Gotta keep Texas, Texas. Love you brother.
Why do I torture myself watching videos about food I can’t eat 😩
Where you at? BBQ meat is in most states
HEBs BBQ is the closest to the best you can get; even taking 2M Smokehouse and Franklin's BBQ into account. Biggest advantage too is that you can just go through a drive through or post up in their dining area without waiting more than 5-10 min waiting. BBQ sauce is basic though... not that it matters. Still haven't tried Salt Lick or Elgin's yet. I can say from experience, as a San Antonio native, HEB True Texas BBQ is consistently excellent... or as many say is "THE TRUTH." I'm not much of a side guy, but the cream corn is legit. Any place around SATX you can just ask for extra pickles, onion, and bread.
I think the camera and the way you work on capturing the juiciness of the meat from different angles really elevates this review.
That brisket passed the flop test. Im glad theres a big chain so that your average person can try it
It is very good. Consistently good, which can't be said of any other chain bbq.
There used to be a bbq place in the next town over that was really pathetic. The last two times I ate there convinced me to never go there again. Order the brisket sliced and it was 50% or more fat. That's obviously why they always wanted you to get it chopped -- so that you couldn't see how much fat there was. The sides there were pretty much hit or miss, but mostly miss.
That one is apparently closed and another one has opened up down the street that is generally better.
I just came across your channel! I'm from the Valley but moved to Austin a year ago. I'm gonna have to go get some BBQ at HEB. My husband works at heb, but we're North Austin.
I'm gonna try your Pico de Gallo recipe coz I'm not satisfied with how I make mine. I'm loving your channel!
I have a love-hate relationship with your channel! I hate that you tempt me with good Texas BBQ but love seeing your recipes and eating real BBQ. I lived in Texas for 40+ years and love BBQ. I'm retired now in NW Arkansas and unfortunately they have no idea how to do brisket or sausage here. So sad! I miss H-E-B too. Great grocery store. Arnie, thanks for driving me nuts! LOL
HEB bbq is spot on! Love the content Arnie, keep it comin hermano!
AH man! I'm stuck here in Saint Louis (for Now lol) and I miss HEB
Awesome content Arnie! Saludos desde California!!
Realized I am just about an hour away from you. Love your videos. Surprised to see good looking bbq at an HEB.
Born and raised in Texas. My folks are still there. They always tell me: "We just got bbq from HEB- it was the best! Don't laugh!"
I’ve lived in Austin all my life and never been there but now it’s a must go try because of you 😂
Great review, just around the corner from my house too! Well done video. 😋💯
A supermarket that cooks BBQ. Now that's something interesting.
Great review Arnie!
Oh man! That’s my H‑E‑B. It would have been cool if you did a meet and greet! My wife and I love your RUclips and Instagram. She grew up in valley.
If i'm in central Texas I always fine my way to the local brisket shack. As to potato salad YES mustard is a must!
You ever been up to Centerville, TX? There’s a BBQ restaurant that I’ve HAD to stop at every time I was driving by. It’s called Country Cousin’s, and has been a staple of life around that town. If you ever stop by there I would absolutely love to see a video!
Certified Gold!!!!!
Been watching your channel recently and man’s mmm in loving every bit of it keeps up the work man
One question, that sausage is it a fine grind or corse gring. I like my sausage made with a fine grind.
They had to have seen Arnie coming!
Good to see there's still solid people in Texas. Right on arnie 🤙
You are a natural at what you do! Love the channel and the vibes you put off! Thank you for the content!
