That’s right - today I’m back here in Austin, TX to try out the Texas institution that “serves the best barbecue in the known universe!” Well, at least that’s what it says on the website. Should you believe the hype? Let’s see how much things have changed over the years and dive into every single piece of delicious meat - including their legendary brisket!

When I went there (from Michigan) an employee came out to our table and saw we didn’t have any pork ribs. He immediately ran in and got us a couple for free so that we wouldn’t miss out. Great staff and great community there.

I deliver ice to Franklin bbq occasionally and it was always a treat to get offered food at the end especially slabs of brisket cut by Aaron himself.
Loved the outro Arnie! This was nice to see what a Pitmaster of your caliber thinks of other BBQ. I would love to see your take on other places. Keep the smoke light and make it work!

I took a cross country roadtrip for 3 months. This meal is hands down the best one I had. New Orleans had some incredible food, some killer tacos in La Jolla, a great steak in Yellowstone, a phenomenal crabcake in Maryland.
This meal stands above them all.
We'll be there in two weeks to take my in laws for some BBQ on their first trip out to visit us since we moved to Texas. Can't wait to watch them enjoy it. I'm sending them this video to get them prepped. Thank you for doing what you do!

Great video! While there is equally as good bbq elsewhere now I always enjoy going back at least once a year. That brisket and Turkey is amazing!

I'm sure that Franklin's hasn't degraded. It's just that so many others have really stepped up their game! Even north of the Hill Country has amazing Q. From Goldee's to Hard Eight and even Feedstore (and more). Hard Eight has my favorite brisket (but I'm a mesquite fan) 😁 and their chicken rules too.

Hard 8 always disappoints me with brisket. Their ribs on the other hand…I say the best I’ve ever had!

I’m from Houston , and I always wanted to go try it out .. is it expensive place ? What’s a good time to get in line ?
@@2low06 it's good. It was absolutely amazing 10 years ago. But now there are bbq places that are an par or possibly even better than Franklin's now. It's a great experience though. Need to be in line between 6 and 7 to guarantee you get what you want. Get there later and you're at the mercy of those in front of you. I haven't been since 2014 so it may have died down since then

My wife and I went on honeymoon in 2016 and was excited to find this place but we got there and it was closed due to a fire! Glad to see it's back open. Maybe we will take another honeymoon and go! 😁. Awesome vid Arnie!
Out here in California we don't have beef ribs, mostly pork. Can't go wrong with that captains platter. That brisket that melted in your mouth looked divine. Looks like it was all worth the experience.
the Franklin business is just the best, the employees are top notch and everyone shows up.
I would like to visit Texas, in the future. Some of the things I'd like to go to is Franklin's BBQ, Austin City Limits, for a live concert, and the Buddy Holly museum. That food looked amazing. It's nice to support local establishments. Cheers, Arnie! 👍👍✌️

I first heard of franklin BBQ from watching the (way too short!) tv show on PBS. Always wished they had shot more episodes of that show. Be that as it may, its really cool seeing a food guy i like cover another food guy i also like

I drive truck all over Texas. Just wish some of these places were more truck friendly. Would love to stop at them.
Im a truck Driver and anytime Im near Kreuz in Lockhart I drive there , they have some rv and truck parking on the side .

Texas BBQ is all about the smoke and the wood used to impart that flavor. I am disappointed that Arnie did not comment anything about the smoke flavor. Everything he said was about moist this and moist that. I think what makes Franklin's unique is how the smoke flavor goes deep into the meat.
You should do more of these videos going to other restaurants.

Great review. I most of the bad reviews he gets are generally not fair. 99.9% of people could not turn out that good of barbecue if they were only cooking one item at a time. The fact that he cooks the quantity he does and turns out the quality is remarkable

really? Beef ribs are my favorite and I think they are pretty easy ( I struggle more with brisket). Whats your metthod?

I lived in Austin and tried Stiles, Browns, Blacks, Coopers - Franklins just had better brisket. It’s the best I’ve had.

Ok peeps i need help. I'm traveling to Austin from S Illinois just for bbq. Obviously, Franklin's will be my 1st stop. I need some recommendations for other good bbq joints in Austin. Thank you.
Interstellar BBQ, Valentina's and KG BBQ are all "must" try if you have the time. If you are in a time crunch there is also the famous Terry Blacks in Austin, too
