Choosing between Franklin's and T. Blacks is like trying to pick your favorite child. Both places are BBQ stars, both use the salt/pepper mix, both use about the same cook times and woods and they both have great flavor foundation. The difference is, personal preference. Personally, I'm not big on Franklin's coleslaw because it's vinegar based (but that might be your flavor). Franklin's might be (a little more) on the salty side with the bark, but again, that might be your flavor preference. T.B.'s monster handle bar rib is straight from Godzilla's left side. If you're from out of town, getting a picture of that bone next to your mug is worth the trip itself. Local here and I say if you're in town, try both a few days apart. Then, go about and try the other 1 million eatery's (for dessert) in Austin.
I love Blacks original location south of Austin. My favorites are the turkey, sausage, pork ribs. I always order a whole smoked chicken for the ride home for dinner.
I was super upset when we got Franklins.. but not at Franklins..we came from Arizona, ordered a month before… and I was wayyyyyy to hungover to enjoy it
Can you do a review on Terry Black's in Lockhart, Barbs B Q in Lockhart, and the 2 BBQ spots in Luling TX. For me Barbs b q has the best ribs with a lemon zest
Terry Blacks is amazing. I live by Austin. I like Franklin’s as well. However, Terry’s is all around better. Their ribs and sides beat the brakes off Franklins.
Franklin is worth the wait. Best brisket in TX. Not the best overall bbq, the sides are very lackluster. Interstellar was the best overall experience in Austin.
I literally believe a trip to texas to mainly eat bbq is worth it...this place is ridiculous good...we plan on going back to the DFW area next for Goldees and a few other spots
Me: *Hears that Franklin’s BBQ is (possibly) the best BBQ in the world* Also Me: *Hears that GOLDEE’S BBQ is the best in world* “WHICH IS IT THEN? Or is just preference at this point?”
It's all in how close you live to each. They are about 3 hours (190 miles) away from each other, so, If you're in Austin, its Franklin or T. Blacks. If you're in Ft. Worth, you're pulling for Goldee's. Both are hella good though.
Having eaten all over the world, it think this guy's reviews are usually hyped nonsense but he wasn't too ridiculous this time. I really enjoyed the beef rib's at Terry Black's. My wait at Franklin's was more like 4 hours and I would do it again if I had a fun group of friends in line with me... on a weekend. The beef ribs weren't available at Franklin's on weekdays when I last visited so I need to come back and try those.
The beef rib from Terry Black’s is life changing
Yeah you wont use the bathroom for about a year.

And then you go out to Elgin to the south side market for hot guts ( beef sausage )
Here I am doing 16-18hour fasting for my diet watching daily while this video lmao.
fucking insane control bro! love it all the best.
just to the end of a 48 hour fast, weirdly enough food videos kinda help curb the hunger for me
masochism
On my bucket list for sure.
Great review thank you
Love this review!! Worth watching again ❤
Welcome to Texas
Great review style. Keep it up and all the best!
I'm glad that you were able to enjoy our culture!
It helps Mike knows how to yap and describe things to fill up almost 20 minutes; food looks great.
Not really yapping when you’re describing some of the best food on the planet

Tried the brisket and beef rib at Terry Black's in Dallas this past weekend. Heavenly. ❤
Both look great, but I think I would prefer the Terry Black's BBQ.
Yes, I rather go to Terry's
Now that’s a beef rib ❤ add some Mexican rice, creamed corn and some banana pudding
Round Rock Donuts are my all time favorite donut!
Terry's looked so good lol
I'm here seeing this vidoe eating beans with cactus.😢

And I'm eating hardboiled eggs with spicy mustard

I was super upset when we got Franklins.. but not at Franklins..we came from Arizona, ordered a month before… and I was wayyyyyy to hungover to enjoy it

Franklin's is my Favorite BBQ other than my own!
What a feast 😮
When you were eating that beef rib, you looked like you were going to cry!
That beef rib was just so over the top beautiful, Geez.
When you held that brisket on your fork, I was in crazy heavy suspense
I Made Smoked Chicken thighs yesterday! I'm making baby back ribs TODAY!
Awesome ❤❤❤
I love Terry Black's. Go every time I'm in Austin

Barbs has a real shot at being #1 next time. It was amazing. Best place I went on a 4 day tour over the 4th of July weekend.
@kain9407 did you try that green spaghetti?
@@jtsra7
Yes. It's great.

Mike, love your video's - only problem is they leave starving.
When I moved to Austin 8 years ago I went to every top rated bbq spot every weekend…now I eat brisket maybe twice a year lol
Terry Blacks is amazing. Went last year. Life changing.
One of the few good things left in Austin.
My favorite bbq ❤❤❤❤
It's looking delicious
That's a big Rib 🥴 I'm jealous 😅 all I eat today is bread topt with cheese and chocolate spread .
Texas is Meat heaven, wishing I was there now .
cheese and chocolate??? huh.
@@Zacharysharkhazard on two different slice of bread lol not together on one slice of bread 😂
I'm sitting here in the U.K ..dribbling onto my Keyboard ....🤤

That char is called bark
Yes please❤
The big kebowski... The dude approves???
Nice video ❤❤
And when you go to the register, they tell you $150 for the tray cost.
Bbq is expensive. Even bad bbq if it's smoked with wood on an offset still costs a lot to make.
Or you can go to NYC and spend $150 for a burger or a slice of pizza . I chose Austin
I gladly pay because Texas bbq is the absolute best!
Nice velog ❤❤🎉🎉🎉
Mega Droooool!!!!!🤤😋
I literally believe a trip to texas to mainly eat bbq is worth it...this place is ridiculous good...we plan on going back to the DFW area next for Goldees and a few other spots
Good video❤
Great 😃👍
You should go to a Pinkerton's location and eat his ribs. They're the best in Texas in my opinion.
DOPE TO SEE MIKE CREATE A "CULT" LIKE FOLLOWING.

Just eat the thing already!

Arron Franklin as 2 books on how he cooks ,many BBQ places in the world follow his descriptions . They are simple to follow and work .
Nice 👍

Or Elgin ,or ,or ,or ....
Deleshiaz ❤❤
Nice ❤❤❤
Smile and be be happy you're in texas eating bbq 😂😂😂
Mike Chen lives in Texas now. It is now his culture. Manly men eat this much meat. I can't get that around here. I wished I could.
Yummy 😋

I'm not saying this has to be number 1, but it should at least be top 5.
Very nice

"Spices." Yes. Salt and pepper. That's it. Central Texas BBQ is salt and pepper.
I will never wait five hours for any food item. Terry Black’s is amazing and can actually run an efficient business. Easy decision there.
Go to Aaron's on a cold February and the line is much shorter ,half hour usually ..
