Thanks for the video. I just did my Oliver this weekend with the One step. The front was pretty oxidized and it turned out great. I heard somewhere that after the one step you should wax it to preserve the shine longer. I used the Meguiars caranuba pure wax to finish the job.
Seeing the reflecting of the American Flag on the side of your camper toward the end of the video is proof enough for me. I will need to give that compound a try on mine. Thanks for sharing
I used the #67 and a wool pad on my random orbit polisher on my travel trailer. This RV had oxidation (chalking) of the fiberglass as well as some minor black streaks. It took all that off and left a beautiful shine! I'm so happy with it! Thanks for these tips!!
We just go a 30 Bigfoot and it's so bad never being polished or kept up, I was going to pay guys to do it but might takle myself one bit at a time. Thank you for the video and tips. 👍👍👍
Thank you so very much! I could see the extreme difference. I’ve been searching for products, tools, and instructions to do this. I found them all in your video. Thank you again so very much. Now I have the confidence and knowledge to do it. God bless you for taking the time to make this video.
Just watched another vid confirming everything you've stated - I spent the afternoon with marginal results using an orbital and another product. There's a Harbor freight up the road, I'm going to give this method a go tomorrow. THX
Excellent video. At first I thought that despite your efforts you wouldn't be able to capture the high gloss that you achieved due to the bright sky, but your many camera angles really showed the difference!
Hi James Kieffner, I wish I had filmed the video when I polished the sides of the camper but I didn't. So the only unpolished area I had was the roof. It was kind of a challenge to get the roof to show the high gloss. Thanks for watching and commenting ~ Todd
Fantastic information. I have a fiberglass slide in utility body which made into a camper. It's 11 ears old and sprnt most of its life outside. I'm definitely going to try that product.
Just used Meguiars 67 on our trailer today. I have some polishing learning curve, but it looks much better and is now sealed with some Jay Leno Radiant spray on ceramic. First try with this Leno product. I'll revisit in a couple months considering our spot bakes the front in the sun. The rest of trailer holds up well oxidation wise. I over wetted a pad and made a mess. That took two passes, but still see some blotchiness. Have to work on my low speed and high speed routine. Looking back, I needed more of the high speed finishing step. All good though, much better and I think Leno's ceramics are going to hold up better than the carnauba type waxes, and leaves no residues. Really like that about spray on products. Appreciate the video, learned plenty.
Thank you for making this! I have a 2018 Forest River product that has some chalking on the nose cap this year. I had been using spray waxes and hand buffing it out but that didn't work this time. I'm going to have to follow your excellent video instructions and invest in the right tools to address it before it becomes really bad.
Thanks for a grate help on this, I have a Jayco 2004 van it had no shine when I just Brouth it then I was looking at your home work on polishing your van so that's how I started. I got the Meguiars Oxidation Remover Heavy Duty Cleaner it didn't seem to work that good I was not happy with this so I tried a little patch with 600 wet and dry with heaps of soap wash it with clean water then hit it with the foam Buff and wow what a difference a Big shine came up very happy . When I went to But one-step cut-polish can't get this in Australia so I done this with Meguiars Oxidation Remover then the Meguiars Boat Caravan High Gloss Polish with wool pad and it looks like a new van now. ( For Bad Oxidation this idea works and it will make you Happy with your hard work ) So thanks again for your help on this.
Thanks very much for taking the time to make this video. I just purchased an 1976 trillium trailer that has a super dull finish and will definately try this.
wireman4545, the Trilliums are very cool. We just saw one at the Florida Egg Rally and S'more last week. I hope this method and product work as good for you as it did for us. Thanks so much for watching our video! ~Carla and Todd
Hello, I recently watched your video to remove some oxidation on the top of my front cap of my 2014 Keystone Sprinter. I used the one-step #67 as you recommended and could not believe how effortless it was to make it look new again. I worked in small areas so it took me longer than it probably should have but I am super impressed. I then lightly buffed the area with a carnauba wax to put a layer on top. Very happy. Thank you for sharing!
I could really see it, and I know when you saw what a difference the sides looked like, you thought of a video, great work, exactly what I was looking to find out . I really want to find one on designing with fiberglass, to make something like your front area on your camper, but more to change and add diminsion to my top slope design.
Pam Beralek, thank you. It took us some experimenting but we figured out the formula to shine it up and wanted to share it with everyone. Hopefully it will save some people time and money.
@Dennis Beauchamp thank you. Todd said it was a lot of hard work to polish the entire Big Foot but worth the effort for sure. Thanks for watching! ~Carla
As mentioned......I worked on the RV today with this stuff. I wish I could show a picture here! Holy Moly!!!! Stuff works awesome. I did my entire roof and the front so far and I still have about a half bottle left. Two thumbs up!
Hi Christy Hardwick, That's awesome, I'm glad to hear the One Step Compound and Polish worked for you. It's nice to hear when videos help other people. Thanks for letting us know and thanks for watching!
If my fiberglass RV needs paint should this step go after I have let the clear coat set for a while? 😢 I'm thinking I should sand it down and use a self etching primer then a good rattle can of paint color and then the clear coat...what say ye?
Thank you sooo much. I just bought a white RV motorhome and it is all fibe.rglass. this will be great. just wonder if a ceramic coating would be good over this to protect all the work
Regular wax will not last very long. Always use a synthetic wax that’s the ticket. And got to boat shops to get the good stuff and will last. Do not go to any car body shops it’s not paint or clear coad it’s gel coat and that is what you are working with. Hope this helps !!!
You could try RUPES UNO advance one step. It has a 12 months sealant built in so no wax after would be necessary. Pan the Organizer does a video showing this product polishing up tail lights. I don’t know how aggressive the cut is but it’s literally a single step only. 3D ONE is also a highly rated single step cut and polish compound. Works very well with buff and shine Euro Fiber pads on auto paint.
I tested 3D one on an 30 ft RV im detailing with heavy oxidation today, but it just no powerful enough to cut through and shine. The 3D one works great on car paint though.
Great video, I could clearly see the huge difference on the roof, thanks for posting. I am wondering about the really easy to use car SiO2 sealants and their ability to prevent oxidation. They are so easy to wipe on a car, I have just started using them, no knowledge on their use on fiberglass but they are laughably easy to use compared to many traditional waxes.
Great video, I just bought a fiberglass RV and the roof is badly chalked. I am planning to remove the old (Dicor?0 sealant from around all the penetrations before restoring the roof. Should I put the new sealant on before or after I restore the surface. Just thinking it may adhere better to a surface that has not been polished (but then it was put onto a polished surface at the factory). Also after you finish with the Meguiar 's what do you recommend to put over the top to protect the roof, just any paste wax product?
@@RunawayRoses it worked great. However, I had some issues with the buffer. Out of the box there is a loud clanging sound that is probably bad bearings. Also, it doesn't hold the RPMs very well at low speed when making contact with the RV surface. But it's super cheap and I got thru my RV and also used it on my car so, meh, it's all good! For longer use, I'd recommend a different/better buffer. Thought you might be interested.
Wade Weisz, I apologize but I just saw this comment. We're still learning this RUclips thing but getting there. I'm very sorry about the bad bearings but you might go back to Ironton they would probably warranty it if you asked. We actually got ours from Northern Tool here in Atlanta. When we were shopping for one, it was the only brand we could find at a moments notice. Thanks for letting us know and I'm glad this method worked for you. It isn't easy but the payout is worth it. ~Carla
Hi Brad Taylor, That sounds like a big job. If your taking off decals you might want to get some plastic razor blades if you don't have any already. I use those a lot. They help to keep from scratching the surface. I think we have some on our Runaway Roses amazon page or you can just look them up on amazon. Thanks for watching!
Nice job! good technique and everything. If you are ever in Seattle area and want to make some money doing this... We use Meguiars exclusively and do this for a living...
Thanks Mobiledetail1 Seattle, we'll come visit if we ever head up that way. We'd love to camp out west. We may hit you up with some questions about fiberglass restoration sometime soon. ~Carla
Hi Trevor, Just be careful around the skinny areas of the decals or around sharp corners. I found it's best to have the rotation of the polisher go from the decal on to the RV surface. The polisher can pull up the corners of the decal a little bit sometimes if your not careful. Try to go from the decal out that should help. Thanks for watching!
My fleetwood revolution has graphics. I do not like graphics wish it was all painted.my manual to my rig says nit to wax the graphics. So buffing the area where the paint is, does not work together. I would love to wax it all. Has anyone else waxed your graphics?
DANIEL ROMERO Thank you for nice comment. This product worked very well for us and from the feedback we've gotten, it seems to for everyone who has followed the directions correctly. Thank you for watching!
Wow! That is a huge difference. I bought the Maguires but I don't have an electric buffer. Do you think I need to invest in one or can I do it by hand?
Hey Pidasian Hippie, If you want it to turn out really good invest in a good polisher and a wool pad. The small buffer machines don't do nearly as well because their not as powerful. You can use the Maguires One Step Compound by hand but it will work better with the machine. Good Luck!
I know the feeling. :) If you still have some shine on your trailer you might be able to get buy with a smaller buffer and wax but if it's oxidized much you'll need something stronger.
Ok, this can be a do it yourself job but you need a beefy buffer and some professional cutting compounds. I just did a 21 year old Bigfoot and after 3 days of work the gel coat looks and feels like new. Like fresh out of the mold new. 3M superduty cutting compound, 9" wool pad and a $200 beefy buffer. Worth it? Absolutely. Followed up with 3M Perfect it polish and Ceramic hybrid wax. 303 uv protectant on top and the bugs just wash away.
Looks great! I'm looking to polish up our new to us 5th wheel. I'm just wondering, what kind of effort does it take to keep the surface clean and shiny after its polished like this? How often does it need to be washed and waxed and buffed with a buffer like that? Thanks!
Hi torq21, I will double check with Todd but we got our Bigfoot last July and we've only polished it like this once and it's still very shiny. It was chalky when we got it so it really made a HUGE difference. We do try to wash it when we return from our camping trips but so far we haven't waxed it yet. We need to do that this year to keep it up. It's garage kept so that helps. It is hard work to do this method and it took Todd two days to finish the job but it has held up well and I don't think we'll have to do this particular method again for a while. Thanks for watching our video and good luck with your RV polishing! ~Carla
Do you know anything about Shine On, fiberglass restoration product. You are just supposed to wash the surface and then wipe on the product. No waxing or polishing... Interested to hear if you are familiar with it. Thanks... you did a great job.
Terry Brown, I have not heard of that Shine On product but it sounds a lot like Poli Glow. We opted not to use Poli Glow because it is actually putting a coat of something over the original gel coat and we just wanted the original gel coat to shine rather than cover it up. Thanks for watching! ~Carla
Great video, I have a 2011 40' fifth wheel RV. I need to restore the fiber glass. Looking for help on what I need to do the job start to finish. So watching several videos. Looks like I need a polisher and 💯 wool pad to cut the oxidation with the one step compound. And a second polisher to apply and buff a wax finish? All help is appropriated. I bought this RV from someone and after recaulking all seams I wanna restore fibreglass. And I wanna get proper tools. But at same time I'm not opening a detail shop.
It sounds like you have the right idea on what you need. Depending on how bad your camper is oxidized and how big it is, it can turn into a big job but this one step compound/polish works very well. Otherwise if you think you might want to have someone else do it look for a boat detailer not an auto detailer. Typically the boat guys know better on how to work with fiberglass. Thanks for watching!
Hi Bob Rife, I'm not sure if I've tried it or not. I have tried many of them and will have to go look in the garage to see if I've tried it. If not I'll check it out. Thanks for watching. ~ Todd
For fiberglass rv's boats the answer is simple. 1 wool double-sided for compound. 1 nylon or nylon/wool double-sided pad for waxes/polishes/sealants. Done. (here, I'll show ya'll what I mean) ruclips.net/video/h5seC2AOWE0/видео.html www.deckhanddetailing.com More detail; ruclips.net/video/0l6Dil2l0Cc/видео.html Double-sided pads DWP849x buffer (we helped design btw's) The boat, compound or pad care not how you apply the compound. What's important is speed, efficiency and waste-reduction. Cross-cut then smooth flat. Slow-faster-slow, work until only an oily residue is left (unless using a water-based compound - don't ) Edgless microfiber towels. Basically stop Only when it looks like wet paint. If you can't achieve that yet, finish with a random. Orbital buffer and a light cleaner wax (never carnuba!!!) wipe clean and do it again in 6-8 months. Or, get down to fresh gelcoat and lock it in with RMP for almost 3 years once it looks wet. Nylon/wool pad or soft foam. The only way to really know if you are at "wet" real wet, clean with a degreaser/iso and look at it without the oils from the compound still in the gelcoat pores. Fatal mistake for noobs. www.deckhanddetailing.com
Thanks for the great info Todd! Even though our Jayco is new and doesn't have any oxidation, we want to keep it preserved well. What do you use to wash your rig? Do you cover/store your Bigfoot in the winter?
Hi Freebird, I typically try to buy a good quality car wash with Carnauba wax in it. That is what we use on our vehicles so I just use that on the trailer as well and it's work well keeping up the shine. I know RV wash is available but I've never used it. We keep our trailer in covered storage so that helps for the long term and cuts down on the maintenance.

Hi Miles Gillie, Sorry for taking so long to get back with you. I don't know the answer to your question but I will ask Todd and let you know soon. Thanks for watching! ~Carla
I have a 40ft 5th wheel just did this be ready to spend the entire day. He’s doing the roof but he has a gel coat roof completely different than a RV roof that has a membrane not fiber glass!
Used the cleaner wax with 10 amp 7" polisher today.....no effort at all, oxidation gone. Don't waste your time with anything else. 3 hours half a bottle of the cleaner wax done. Thanks
Hi Jim12186, If your not familiar with fiberglass trailers it is basically like two boats put together. The bottom half being one boat and the top half being another with a seam in the middle. The full exterior is fiberglass all the way around. So what I'm polishing in the video is the hard shell fiberglass on the roof but it's the same polishing process for all the way around the trailer. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching! ~ Todd
@@RunawayRoses that is totally fair. Thank you for your reply. I was hoping it was not and product issue because I was researching how or if I wanted do my two RVs myself when I came across your videos. Your reply came a little late and I DID pull the trigger on the Meguiar's One Step and just spent the entire weekend teaching myself how to do it. I'm very happy with the results especially after I added a Meguiars wax. That said, it would have been a heck of a lot easier and faster to have someone else do it. Now though, I will be a much better and wiser consumer of those services. Cheers Brother.
Did my coach yesterday. Went to a boat shop and picked up boat polish wax. Just wiped a thin layer on and brushed it off by hand. You sure don't need an elictric buffer.
Longevity is totally dependant by your choice of final wax (or synthetic) . You must provide this "final' step in order to protect finish from UV exposure. Polish is not your final step! You need UV protection. 1. Carnuba wax: 6-8 weeks (depends on amount of hours in the sun.) 2,Premium synthetic paste wax will protect from 12-20 weeks 3. Full polymer synthetic (such as Rejex): 8 months to a year!
If I remember correctly I think I changed the pad 2 or 3 times for the whole camper. Kind of clean them off as I go. If you turn the polisher on upside down and hold a scrub brush lightly over the wool pad as it it turning it removes a lot of built up. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching ~ Todd
@@RunawayRoses Great video. I just ordered the 67 product as well as a 7" polisher and a 7" wool pad. I just order one pad however. When you are done with the pad do you just pop it in the washing machine, or how do you maintain the wool pad? Thanks!

I am trying to figure out the polisher you used. I don’t see the same model on northern tools website. May be it’s discontinued?
Thank you for the great video! How often do you replace the wool pad? How do you clean the wool pad? Thanks in advance :-)
Nice job! good technique and everything.
~Carla
Hello @Runaway Roses, Would you recommend doing this same process into regular car paint that has water spots?
I would not recommend using it on a car. Car paint is different from fiberglass gelcoat. Thanks for watching!
Any tips or tricks we should be aware of polishing the RV decals or around those decals?
Hi Trevor, Just be careful around the skinny areas of the decals or around sharp corners. I found it's best to have the rotation of the polisher go from the decal on to the RV surface. The polisher can pull up the corners of the decal a little bit sometimes if your not careful. Try to go from the decal out that should help. Thanks for watching!
Pls disregard
My fleetwood revolution has graphics. I do not like graphics wish it was all painted.my manual to my rig says nit to wax the graphics. So buffing the area where the paint is, does not work together. I would love to wax it all. Has anyone else waxed your graphics?
Very nice, exactly what i have been looking for. Thank you so much.
Good Luck!
Thanks for the info. I am beginning to think I have purchased a money pit because I keep finding things I "need" for it. Hahahahahah
I know the feeling. :) If you still have some shine on your trailer you might be able to get buy with a smaller buffer and wax but if it's oxidized much you'll need something stronger.
Unfortunately there is a lot of oxidation. :-(
Ok, this can be a do it yourself job but you need a beefy buffer and some professional cutting compounds.
Have you used M91? Would that be better for older RVs
Wow. Looks great. Thanks for the video.
Maynard Waters thanks for watching and commenting. ~ Todd
Looking awesome
~Carla
looks amazing great job
Any advice for using this over the decals? We also have a Bigfoot product (truck camper) with lots of graphics.
I would avoid the decals. But I use a product called 303 Protectant on them, works great.
Looks great! Thanks for the information!
You're welcome, hope it helps!
~Carla
The top of my head is heavily oxidized from the sun. Would Meguires #67 and an orbital polisher do the trick?
Waiting on updates. 😂
Would I need to then use a good wax? Or is this compound/polish all I would need?
@Reggie Jenkins for best results, it is best to wax afterward to keep the shine. Thanks for watching! 👍😁
great video
@Casey Simons thanks so much for watching!
I have a Big foot 25 RQ and the roof is very oxalated. I am going to try that on mine. When it stops raining .
25 RQ Nice! Follow the steps I did in the video and it should turn out well. Good Luck and thanks for watching.
He Gerry, We are about to buy an older Bigfoot like yours. How did this product work out for you?
Very nice. Thanks.
I have a 1980 c3 fiberglass corvette will tis method work for it?
@Wild n brave we are not sure about this method for a vehicle. It might possibly work but I would ask a professional about it.
Thank you! Looks amazing
Eden Seller, thank you! Thanks for watching! ~Carla
Great video. Thanks for sharing!
@Dori & Mena, you're welcome. Thanks for watching!
👍 vid. Excellent content and very helpful. Thank you
have you ever used McGuires clean and Wax #50
Hi Bob Rife, I'm not sure if I've tried it or not. I have tried many of them and will have to go look in the garage to see if I've tried it. If not I'll check it out. Thanks for watching. ~ Todd
Thanks that was good...
How long does the shine last or process need to be repeated?
Did you mask off the decals/stickers on your camper before polishing?
For fiberglass rv's boats the answer is simple.
1 wool double-sided for compound. 1 nylon or nylon/wool double-sided pad for waxes/polishes/sealants. Done. (here, I'll show ya'll what I mean) ruclips.net/video/h5seC2AOWE0/видео.html

More detail;

Double-sided pads
DWP849x buffer (we helped design btw's)
The boat, compound or pad care not how you apply the compound. What's important is speed, efficiency and waste-reduction.
Cross-cut then smooth flat. Slow-faster-slow, work until only an oily residue is left (unless using a water-based compound - don't )
Edgless microfiber towels.

How long does it keep up the shine ?
Thanks for the great info Todd! Even though our Jayco is new and doesn't have any oxidation, we want to keep it preserved well. What do you use to wash your rig? Do you cover/store your Bigfoot in the winter?
Hi Freebird, I typically try to buy a good quality car wash with Carnauba wax in it. That is what we use on our vehicles so I just use that on the trailer as well and it's work well keeping up the shine. I know RV wash is available but I've never used it. We keep our trailer in covered storage so that helps for the long term and cuts down on the maintenance.
Where did you get that pad for your buffer? Thanks

I have a class A motorhome I would like to try this on... what about the basement storage bins that are metal. Can this be used there or will it scratch?
Thanks
If you don't mind, what specific cleaner wax are you referring to? Thanks.
torq21 i’ve been waiting a whole year for the answer...must be bullshit
Maybe this one? www.amazon.com/Meguiars-Cleaner-Wax-Liquid-Protects/dp/B0002NYE5M
Amazing
Is that a rubber roof or what type material?
Hi Jim12186, If your not familiar with fiberglass trailers it is basically like two boats put together. The bottom half being one boat and the top half being another with a seam in the middle. The full exterior is fiberglass all the way around. So what I'm polishing in the video is the hard shell fiberglass on the roof but it's the same polishing process for all the way around the trailer. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching! ~ Todd
Do not put on rubber roof!!!
So why did you stop using this process and start using Tyler?
It all came down to time.
Do you use the wax on decals too?
Be very careful around the decals, don't polish over them just kind of around them.
Good day Todd. I was wondering if this lasts a year or longer?
Longevity is totally dependant by your choice of final wax (or synthetic) . You must provide this "final' step in order to protect finish from UV exposure. Polish is not your final step! You need UV protection.
1. Carnuba wax: 6-8 weeks (depends on amount of hours in the sun.)
2,Premium synthetic paste wax will protect from 12-20 weeks
3. Full polymer synthetic (such as Rejex): 8 months to a year!
@David Veasey thank you for responding, your recommendations sounds like what Todd would have said also. ~Carla
How many times did you have to change out the wool pad?
If I remember correctly I think I changed the pad 2 or 3 times for the whole camper. Kind of clean them off as I go. If you turn the polisher on upside down and hold a scrub brush lightly over the wool pad as it it turning it removes a lot of built up. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching ~ Todd
@@RunawayRoses Great video. I just ordered the 67 product as well as a 7" polisher and a 7" wool pad. I just order one pad however. When you are done with the pad do you just pop it in the washing machine, or how do you maintain the wool pad? Thanks!
67 is great, but my 31' motorhome took two bottles.
