Carol Madge, that is true. We can customize it to meet our needs. It would be ashamed to buy brand new and then have to customize on top of that 😁👍. Thank you for watching!
I have been looking for REAL advice about polishing my RV for about a year now. I think from what I heard here that his info is 100% correct. I made many mistakes trying to polish my RV, and this video set me straight. However, I cannot find the abrasive he is using, or the synthetic wax mentioned at the end. Can you tell us what those products actually are? Also, he was using a non-orbital buffer. Is it OK to use an orbital one?
@TheTraveling RV that is so good to hear. He's such a gift and so good at what he does. We're glad that he could help you out. We need to get him to come out and polish/wax our new camper. It's great to hear that he got some business from our video. Thank you for watching!
Typically, car guys can't do a boat at all well and a boat detailer tends to be too heavy-handed to fitness paint on a car. They should be using totally different products as well. More oily for gelcoat, less so for paint. Marine paint is like airplane paint, sometimes exactly the same, so it's thick and strong unlike modern car paints and clear coats.
I'd like to say I'm a car detailer but I also do boats planes rvs etc. Personally I think he could finish with a soft polishing wool pad and provide a better shine. Also use a white paper plate to look at the reflection and find any missed imperfections. Not knocking just wanted to give some extra as I've been doing this for a while out in Arizona and I deal with lots of RVs boats and cars.
@@RunawayRoses Why did you get rid of the bigfoot and get a lance? That big foot was a super nice rig. Oh I just got a used snoozy. Working on it to get it nice. Ill trade up over time like you advised. $12,000 for it. One day Ill have an Oliver!!!!
A really great set of videos and the Meguires products look really good, thanks for taking the time to show us. We are from the Uk 🇬🇧 so your word caries well, stay safe and happy.
We just bought a new-to-us RV and the gel coat is pretty dull looking in spots. This was so helpful for making sure we will restore it the right way. Good tip on looking for a marine detailer :-)
Where are you based out of? My company, 10-4 Detailing would be happy to do it. I personally do all of the details, and have about 7 years experience polishing on both paint and gel coat on everything from show cars, Semi Trucks, boats, etc.
Around the 15:41 mark, did Tyler polish out the swirls before applying the sealant or did he allow the sealant to “fill in the swirls”? Basically like when he was trying to explain why not to use a one-step (all in one) product. Maybe his finishing pad buffs out the swirls at the same time he’s applying the sealant? Thank you for sharing!
Question - in the video, it seems like Tyler does not recommend using Meguiar's Marine/RV One Step Compound, but you have it as recommended in your Amazon store. Is "Meguiar's Marine/RV One Step Compound - Marine and RV Restorer That Removes Heavy Oxidation and Scratches While Restoring Gloss" good to use on an RV?
Tyler likes to use some professional grade detailing compounds but I have used the Meguire's One Step Compound several times and I think it works great for the diy'er. Thanks for watching!
Thanks Guys for this informative video ... just watched a few of your vids ... Great channel, new subscriber. I have a 2005 TAB That i re-did the inside late last fall. Now we are going to seal the roof and wax/polish it good. So this was inspiring me to get busy once the weather warms up here in Minnesota. Look forward to weekend camping in MN. with My Wife.
Great video! I cannot find the product he is using on the buffer pad via his link or Amazon. What is it specifically and where can it be purchased? Thank you. 😊
I like the end result but what rv products on this video did he use? I didn't see him show us. He talked about chemical makeup and abrasives ect but what is the name of the product he is actually using? Thanks
William Branham, he didn't give us the name of the products but he did reference where he got his products. You can probably call or email the company and ask them. Tyler's last name is Bennett and I think it's a small company so they'll probably know who you're referring to. He just buys his detail products from them, he does not work for them just to be clear. The company is Detail Link: detaillink.com/. Good luck!
Watch Drakes Detailing videos for gelcoat. I’ve watched many hours of him and just used Starke Level R from Marine Detailing Supply with a rotary tool like this guy was using and 3 passes does it. Then Starke Elevate to remove swirl marks - can use a finer wool pad on the rotary or better to use a foam pad on a DA (I’m using a Rupes Mille with a foam pad), then wash with Dawn soap to strip the compound lubricants. Then follow up with Jescar Power Lock Plus (Amazon has this), let it sit at least 30 minutes before removing with microfiber rags. My final step is McKee’s 37 Nautical One Hydro Rinse SiO2 Ceramic Boat Coating (available on Amazon). This is if you have true gelcoat and not painted fiberglass.
Hey Carla! Long time no see! So funny I came across you guys' video while learning how to cut and polish gelcoat. Great video, along with your earlier polishing video. What did you all do to polish the space behind the RV ladder where the rotary tool cannot reach. Was there a recommendation for hand-polishing pad and technique?
@Edward Plumer he used an attachment to extend the polishing wheel so that it would fit. I don't know where he got it but it definitely seemed to make getting behind the ladder easier. Thanks!! We appreciate you watching.
Edward Plumer Look up rotary extensions, or rotary polisher extensions. A set of 3 different sizes will set you back about $25-$30. You can also purchase an assortment of smaller sized backing plates and pads for those extensions.

Hi ronaldharrison74, His prices very depending on the size of the camper and the current condition of the surface he has to work with. If the surface is really bad it may take extra steps like wet sanding before even polishing. We paid $600 for ours. But it took him longer than he thought it was going too.

There is nothing difficult nor complicated with rejuvenating such heavily oxidized fibreglass surfaces. Its 100% about highly abrasive “cutting” and the fastest, most professional method is via ROTARY BUFFER + abrasive compound (as shown in video). The real issue is, in the USA and UK, many “detailers” do not know how to professionally use Rotary Buffers because most of such newcomers were actually jobless and had to quickly become “detailers”, and the only fastest way to start the business was to use the home hobbyist Dual Action machine which even a 7yr old can use…with excellent results but much slower vs a Rotary Buffer. Hence, such “detailers” tend to avoid talking about Rotary Buffers, and they propagate the American-created fallacy that Rotaries can “burn paint” via American social media. If you advertise yourself as a “professional” who fell big trees as a service, PLEASE learn to professionally use a real chainsaw. That would be a starting point of being seen as a professional. On such heavily oxidised big surfaces, only a fool would use a DA to slowly clatter away. Hugely inefficient. Such “detailers” should watch a REAL DETAILER as in the above video on how to be comfortable holding the REAL tool of a pro detailer and how to professionally handle it. If you love to do big game shooting/ hunting, and dont even know how to hold a hunting rifle or dont even own a rifle,………(Im speechless)😂😂😂
