Turned out nice Eric, too bad you could't film it in the sun for everybody to see. Lots of people ask me how long it lasts.... I usually put on just 1 coat per year to keep it looking great. Some people put it on their painted metal surfaces but personally I wouldn't do it unless it was in very bad shape and had nothing to lose- and then only light colors. This is 3 RV's I've used it on and couldn't be happier with the results.
Campervan Kevin .. This might be a negligible difference in things, but it seems that a good shine could actually help reflect some heat. Since you are a long time user of this, have you noticed anything in that aspect?
I did it too on a '00 highly oxidized motorhome. I did about 8 coats but it looks AMAZING! I wondered if I needed to recoat (add a layer) every year or if I needed to strip the entire thing and redo?
@@salinemichigan904 I had seen no reason not to just apply 1 coat every year. Sometimes I cleaned the rv with too harsh a chemical and lost some of the coats... so the one coat per year worked great for me and I found it to be enough
Great job! Eric your channel, along with 'Prepper' Wayne and Kevin, sure help teach others lots about maintenance and repair. You have apologized at times for the 'down time' to take care of things with your RV, but honestly no apologies necessary cause you are teaching us what the realities of nomadic life is really like. Taking the good along with the bad, that's just part of living. Thank goodness for good friends who help us along in the bumpy times! Thanks Eric and Kevin!
Thanks Eric, for the hint about the floor wax. Another "secret" with Zep products from Home Depot is the Acidic Toilet Bowl Cleaner is it will remove the yellow from the fiberglass. We use it on boats all the time and customers think we use magic to get them so clean and white. Unfortunately you would have needed to do this before the wax coating. :( But in time if the wax will wear off you might have a chance to try it out.
I Zepped my rig about a year ago and it looked amazing for the entire year! (or so I thought) About 6 months ago, even though my rig still had a shine, I noticed a few small areas that would not come clean. Fast forward to a couple weeks ago... I was removing and replacing all of the old decals, and it then became blatantly obvious how much dirt had become embedded in the Zep. I couldn't tell until I removed the old decals, but the entire Zep wax job had become dingy and embedded with dirt. Some areas were worse than others, but the entire rig was affected. My only option was to strip the entire thing with the Zep floor stripper and do it the 'right way'. It took me three days to get it all off, then compound and wax it properly. It now looks better than it ever did by doing it 'the right way'! There's always a trade off, when taking the 'easy way', but I'd rather take one day a year and do it right than to go through all that headache again! I will NEVER Zep my rig again!!!
Just watced this video and you answered the first question that came to my mind. Longevity and potential repurcussions of this. Sorry you had to be a guinea pig 😕
Yep I wounderd what the long term would be they were asked earlier in the comments and didn't respond so I kept reading and found your reply. I knew on floors you eventually had to strip them Sorry you were the one that had to find it out, we have a 38' travel trailer and it's a beast to wash let alone wax but appreciate the post
I did my 2001 C Class Fleetwood Tracker Trailstar before I set out in October. Exactly the same. I did 6 coats on my own over two days (back and side one day, side and front the next). It deepens the colors of the stripes etc, and enriches and shines the fiberglass, and protects it all. Much easier to wash off bug bodies and dirt now!
WOW! What a wonderful difference! You are so lucky to have such a good, knowledgeable, helpful friend as Kevin. Makes a job like that go by so much faster and turns work into an enjoyable time spent with a buddy.
I used it a couple of years on my 24'hybrid shamrock. 6 coats and it looked great. Washed it first with tsp to prep it. Can't wait to get some coats on my new fiver. Thanks for sharing a great product with your fans.
Looks great! You could tell a big difference after just the 3rd coat. It is nice to have help on a job like that. A lot of hard work that will definitely payoff in the long run.
Thanks for video Eric. My wife now tells me I have a project for the upcoming months in Florida. I was hoping for a paint job😁, but noooo. The rig looks great.
Enjoyed the video. I did that to our 93 Class C 4 months ago when we bought her and have no regrets. I used a sponge mop for application but sure like the way you and Kevin did it and used a while lot less of the Zep. BTW you have been a huge encouragement to us. Hugs from Our RV Will Travel.
I appreciate the effort, as a former owner of several large RV's myself. When I chose my rig, I avoided the models that had that yellow-ish tinge to the RV body, vs. the nicer white of the cab area. I ended up buying a new rig and when I did, I found a model that was white-white, and not yellowish. The one's that had the yellow hue to them always looked a bit dirty or faded to me.
Looks really nice ! My husband loves everything clean and has tried lots of products. He said to tell you to try putting Simple Green in a plastic sprayer (from walmart) Once it is sprayed on the RV, try a pole brush to wash the RV. Then wash it off with water. This would save you time over using the tiny little scrubber. Hope this helps !
Star bright makes a fiberglass restorer with ptef. Then follow with a ptef marine polish. Much better results than floor wax. Good on you for shining up the rig!
Beautiful! Eric, you have inspired me! When my youngest graduates high school and gets his first year of college in (in about six years) I'm selling everything and heading out in an RV. Great tips. Great videos. Glad that I found your videos here on RUclips.
Hey Eric, how often do you reapply? Have you had to strip it and start over? Hoping to hear from you before I start this process on my 1999 Holiday Rambler.
It would have been nice if Tioga would have paint matched the camper part with the cab of the van. It does look 100% better now with that nice shine. You guys did a great job Eric! I was just curious if you had ever thought about remodeling the interior of your camper and if you had how would you change the layout inside? With all your experience having RV's I'm sure you would have some great ideas. Be safe out there my friend and thanks for any comments you might give.
It's great to have those kind of friends- Kevin,Felix and RV Prepper Wayne! I am in search of a motorhomes mechanic to install a fuel pump. It's really hard!
On my husbands pick up truck he uses a “clear plastic shield” for his side view mirrors that protects from rock dings, he uses mud flaps for his wheels and then uses bug deflectors for his hood. All good things to protect from dirt and dings..... >^..^< Keep Safe
Looks great Eric. I use a 50/50 percent bleach and water solution in a pump up sprayer and spray it on my rvs to get the black water stains and tree sap and streaks off.You can just watch the years of grime and stain start running off a light rubbing is all that is required for the most stubborn stains. It strips the wax but has never hurt my clear coat or even the sticker style striping. Then applied the zep and looks great. Just my experience.
Hi Erik- You are just 4 hours away from Guntersville Lake, Ala, -with excellent bass and crappie fishing. There is also a colorful local character with a youtube channel, to get the best tips from. It looks to have some very good camping and boon docking spots, with woods and lake. Just a thought.
Some times you say the funniest stuff without even realizing it Eric, "It's the next day here...." LOL! isn't it always the next day? unless it is the day before which could then be considered yesterday which then turns today into tomorrow which still is just another day gone by. Anyway it's still the same day here and I'm glad to see you in such a good mood and the RV looks Great!! You and Jax take care!!! (No matter what day it is. LOL!!!)
Hi Eric it looks great.I'd like to thank for the short demo on the wash machine you did a couple of months ago.I live in an apartment and it looked perfect for me.So I bought one.and I'm very happy with it.Thank you again for great tip
Wow you guys got that RV looking great. You'll be slipping right through the wind now lol. How bout some mud flaps behind the front tires? Good product. Good video.
OH MY GOD. I looked at the rv forums for an idea of what to use for wax on the side of my rv. I used the ZEP shiny, heavy duty floor wax. 3 coats on the side of my truck camper. A little streaky, but ok, and was so shiny. 3 years later, trying to remove the original ZEP wax was like taking barnacles off the USS Constitution with a plastic knife. The ZEP remover is good, but the mixing suggestion was totally inadequate on a vertical surface. Went over once, and the bucket water was black. Ok, but when it dried it looked awful with wax residue the first scrub loosened. Got another gallon, went 1:1, with HOT water. Took 2 more scrubbing with a wand brush with plastic bristles. Rinsed about every 10 or so sq. feet, to minimize anything left. Water was still black, not as bad. So the original brush bucket black was the wax being rinsed off. Anyway, the wax is actually pretty good, but getting it off is like trying to get your 25 year old out of the cellar. This product is VERY GOOD, but you will need to do multiple scrubbing. Pity the person who puts 7-8 coats on their rv like a couple of YT videos advise.
Looks nice! I'm going to do that to mine. Thanks for the tip. I went around and replaced all the old rusted screws with #10 stainless screws of various lengths. Made a huge differance.
That's a LOT of work. It looks great. It may be a long shot but, now's a good time to see if you get any more M.P.G. due to the reduced friction. Even a half mile would be great.
Good job bro . and yes the zep is the shiit even there zep degresser and cleaner works great makes ur motor look soo clean and what ever else u use . take kare
So how did you apply the wax to the RV? Did you spray it on the wipe to even it out or did you dunk the towel in a container of wax and bring it out. You didn't say a word about the process which is fairly important. Looks good. Please edit the video with an addon that tells or shows how you got the wax onto the RV Thanks!
Plastic is not listed as being ok to use on the bottle.... But it also does not say fiberglass is ok, and as you can see, many people us it on their RV. So, I'm not sure. It didn't hurt anything to apply to the window seals on my attempt. But I can't promise it's "OK"
If I'd seen this before ya got going I'd have suggested using marker felt tip pens to fill in a little on the old vinyl graphics just to cover some scratches since the zep would have sealed it.
Your RV was just Oxidized, should of got some cut and buffed it then add a coat of wax,It would of brought back the shine plus brought back the original White color like the cab.Cut would of removed all the grease and grime at the same time as well, just a heads up for next time brother, love what you do.
That looks like it works darn good. I take my camper through the BLUE BEACON truck washes, and they have some spray for that it works great. I would imagine any truck wash would have it, I just mention them due to my experience over the years as a trucker.
Looks good, I have a 2004' class C thats dull looking. I am Leary about using floor wax though, wish you could post pix of what it looks like now 7/21' I doubt the floor wax is UV resistant? and wonder if it yellowed out after a year or so?

This might be a negligible difference in things, but it seems that a good shine could actually help reflect some heat. Since you are a long time user of this, have you noticed anything in that aspect?
Any idea if this would be OK to apply to an RV with full body paint (black & brown primary colors)?

how did this hold up? now that you've had a few years. do you still recommend zep floor polish on the exterior?

Hello..how to use zep? What’s the water to zep ratio? Got marks from a tarp on my rv😬😬thank you
Hi..zep only? Or water mixed with zep? Please let me know thank you😀

Campervan Kevin is definitely the best friend an RVer can have. You're a lucky man, Eric ! !
Looks Beautiful Eric, It is so nice to have a good friend that cares enough to lend a hand..
Next time, Eric, grab a sponge mop (like for a kitchen) and a paint roller pan. You'll be able to apply easily and avoid having to climb the ladder.
Big improvement "Thanks" too you and Kevin that will help when I get my RV I doubt i'll be able to afford a new one

Star bright makes a fiberglass restorer with ptef. Then follow with a ptef marine polish. Much better results than floor wax. Good on you for shining up the rig!
That is due to oxidization. Any cleaner will get the powder off your surface. Zep is not actually my favorite. I use soft scrub without bleach.
Love it!! So nice of Kevin to help. Good friends are worth their weight in Gold. Love from Texas
This is the kind of video YT like.... They should place relevant ads in it. Amazing result, great work guys.
Yoda looks awesome! I've been putting ZEP on my camper (2006 Keystone Outback) for the last 2 years, you would never know she was 11 yrs old!

RV looks great. I will have to say you and Kevin are very fast workers and you have the video to prove it. lol
MAN OH MAN!!! That worked great!
Shined her right up!
Holy crap! What a difference!! Now, to keep that shine, look up Chadwicks triple play. Amazing stuff.

That looks amazing, Eric. Good job. It's so nice to have friends like Kevin.
Just bought a jug to do my little Toyota RV this summer! Can't wait! Yoda looks great!!
Yeah Kevin - Way to show how to do it! Merry Christmas you guys! Love your Decs Eric!
Wow what a difference that made great job Eric.
Good job Kevin and Eric
Good job bro . and yes the zep is the shiit even there zep degresser and cleaner works great makes ur motor look soo clean and what ever else u use . take kare

Looks great! Your arms and Kevin's must be feeling it!
Wow, guys! Looks truly amazing! Congrats!
That Zep looks fantastic! You & Kevin did an awesome job!!!!!
Turned out great, take pride in your ride/house/business.
Nice Improvement I will use that stuff!!
Hey Eric, Yoda is lookin strong in the force!!! Nice job.
I'm anxious to try this but will have to wait till Spring !
I am thinking the UV is what killed the gloss on the fiberglass.
Looks good, I have a 2004' class C thats dull looking. I am Leary about using floor wax though, wish you could post pix of what it looks like now 7/21' I doubt the floor wax is UV resistant? and wonder if it yellowed out after a year or so?
It looks better than new. Great job.
Great job mate looking after your home is very important.
For those of you that have used this product, how frequently do you treat your RV with it and do you always do so many coats?
FIRST! Big Ups to CamperVan Kevin. Yoda looks great. Rock rock Rockette! haha.
Good job. You owe Kevin, Eric....again! Looks great guys.
Thanks, I'll try it on my 5th wheel in the spring.
