You know if you covered the top with solar panels completely and did an electric power swap it could probably work even better as a house on wheels, that way since he's mostly using the vehicle for living he could have a larger battery pack that could be used for driving or living. The extra panels would just keep him topped off easier and possibly allow him to run things with a higher power draw.
Okay, I’m a 75 year old granny and that young man with his stealth home is just about the coolest idea I’ve seen in a long time. Kudos to him for adapting his current wants and needs into something so clever and adaptable! I wish him all the best as he continues his formal education and I hope his life’s journeys continue to be as rewarding as his current accomplishments!
It works! I learned a trick long ago from an old movie by Robert Downey Jr, this is literally like 40 years ago. When he knew he was parking illegally, he put an old speeding ticket under his wipers. The idea being it would get passed up as already ticketed. Another trick I used at school (ASU early 90s) was this. See, every damn school and building had its own parking pass. Giving them 80k a year wasn't enough. They wanted me to pay for 6 different building parking areas. So my trick was, and still is... Put the hood up, hazard lights on, and a rag over the radiator cap.
I've been an Rv owner for over 40 years and have owned quite a few rigs during that time. From the unique re-purposing of material to the very well planned layout of the interior, this rig is amazing. Well done, Jason!

A student at my Uni lived in a cube van in the parking lot - they only charged you for a full day when you left, you could literally just park a car in the lower lot and leave it there (I've left my winter beaters parked there over summers, cost me $10) - anyways that guy found an outlet near one of those green power boxes, and got a gym membership, where he took care of his hygiene requirements. Dude did this for a few years, it was genius. On super cold nights, he crashed in the basement of the library, no one EVER went down there (including myself, and I worked there for 10 years).

I like the loft,,the sink. The refrigerator is rather small..but he's a college student. Expenses. ..must go towards gasoline..and vehicle insurance. It must run over 100 per month.. it's a commercial vehicle....I like this creation.
Well basically this is parked most of the time as he's a student, so the cost of petrol won't be excessive, and NO RENT Great job for his current lifestyle.
He seems so very happy with his living arrangements. His work truck home is incredibly thought out, and it looks so comfortable. It's no wonder why he smiles all the time. I'm so happy for him!

I worked in the towing and repossession industry for over 10 years and now law enforcement - Just a heads up if you don't already know - those older Ford vans/trucks are extremely easy to break into and steal. I suggest installing a hidden kill switch to be safe. I'd be a shame if your home disappeared.
can vouch for this! My old Ford Expeditions ignition failed once and I was not able to repair for like 3 weeks and ended up going the Hotwire way to get by till I got it fixed, was super surprised at how the wires were exposed under the dash

My one critique is that I think it would have been a good idea to have a rear access door through the "Garage". That way getting bigger items in and out could be easier.
I love the fact he designed the exterior to look like a work truck. It makes it easier to find a place to park the truck. I love how efficient the inside space is as well.

Think it through before you commit. People make decisions off impulses and many times they grow to regret their decisions. If anyone has any money to put down on a house, use it to buy conventional real estate. In 10 years this guy in the video will have discarded this truck and made nothing on it while you will have a piece of real estate that will have appreciated nicely
Sweet! I lived in a stealth van for about 2 years, saw every state in the US except Hawaii, drove the Yukon and saw much of Canada. Never paid a dime in campground fees, never got hassled by the cops and never bothered anybody either. It's a lot of fun if you can manage it.
Re-watching after a long break. I'm usually not a big fan of motorized houses, but Jason's take is really exceptional. Among the best features is his mindset: 80% urban rather than the reverse and built to purpose.

This has got to be The Smartest tiny home build I have ever seen! And I have watched literally hundreds of tiny home videos (from all kinds of channels, not just this one). Having to constantly deal with either space rent or having to "get permission" to park - those are problems because the rent can go up, or the owner of the space can decide they won't rent anymore. Also getting permission to park on someone's property is great - until they rescind their permission. Seems most tiny homes are very reliant on where they can be. This guy figured out a way around that. Major kudos! Really awesome job.
How about the necessity of a real address for everything in society? For work, school, registry of motor vehicles…etcetera. That will not be realistic for most people,…unless you want to live off-the-grid, kind of.

It's just where all the junk mail will be sent - along with the odd necessity like bank cards, driver's licenses, etc. If you can use a parent or other relative, you're good. Else you'll need a PO Box which should suffice for most things. There is the odd stubborn thing that insists on a fixed residential abode...
Reminds me of that luxury car from that snl skit years ago. Inside was a luxury car outside had one bus yellow rim a close hanger antenna and other defects to keep thieves from stealing it.
One of the nicest stealth builds I've seen. I was especially impressed with the vent to conceil the window, and the toy hauler style garage and fold down patio utilizing the roll up door components. Great job on the build, and great video presentation.

Camp potties and compact composting toilets can be stashed so easily. Sink baths are efficient whether you aim to save water or not. Showers at gyms are gratis for members. There are also private outdoor shower setups for vanlifers. And yes, this build is impressive to me. 😘

Truly remarkable, if I saw this on the street I wouldn't even know there was a nice little efficiency inside. My fiance wouldn't care for it but you could certainly do worse on space. Blows my mind that you have a bathroom, a kitchen, a work area, bedroom, and a lounge area inside this truck.

I think this may be one of my most favorite tiny homes ever. STEALTH IS THE KEY!!! I kept thinking however, that you could make a heavy income by renting your outer surface space with advertising wraps! I hear that it’s good money… and you wouldn’t want for anything while in grad school! Nobody would know it was stealth inside even still!
This is one of the better builds I've seen.He utilized every bit of space well,he designed it to fully fit his needs .Full kutchen,full office area,full living area,full bed,full shower space.Very nice.
The only changes could be a smaller desk to provide more kitchen space or storage. A bespoke sofa with storage under, but I like the idea of free and upcycling. Personally I’d like a built in cooker, but that may come in time when he does a rebuild. And don’t you just love the ‘loft ladder’?

Despite it being a cheaper option than an apartment in the long-term, having something like this is a luxury in itself. You’d need the resources and skills or friends with skills to make something like this. The results are awesome.
Yea unfortunately tiny home/alt living are advertised as something everyone can do but that's far from the truth. Tons of people who build these homes have some kind of labor skill that transfers over to help reduce cost OR they already make a solid wage and can afford to slowly work on it over the course of a year+. Most videos I find they're always like a 3rd generation carpenter with a family of electricians/plumbers or their some high paid salary person who works remotely. This lifestyle is far from achievable for most people.
He's studying Urban planning - what a great way to set himself up for his transition - imagine telling an interviewer about how you built out your own stealth living facility to live IN the city with solar power and all - sure he's selling it. Mission accomplished.

This is an incredible build and use of the space. The full size bed loft area, decent size couch and full size desk as well as shower are top notch in my book. The fact that he doesn't have to constantly shift a bunch of things around to convert the living room into a bed etc is pretty cool.
You can clearly see that this guy is an amazing person, makes me feel full of joy when I watch this kind people living their dream... You can feel the happiness emanating from him....

The convertible sofa bed will solve that problem, there is ample space for that. and the shower space can be a little bit bigger and can have a sliding door

This is absolutely brilliant!! So much thought went into the build and not a single inch of space wasted. The truck basically dissapears in any environment and you'd have no idea it's a small studio apartment! Great job.
Seriously, if you have a vest, hardhat and steel toe boots. You can literally walk into any construction site or yard and nobody will stop you. "Act like you belong". And for this I can image he can easily park in any yard.

This is the perfect permanent living arrangements for me. This is exactly what I would need. I would have no need for the computer work station that would allow enough for a recliner which is all I need that isn't there now. Very nice looking , just think this size apt in New York City and lots of other places will cost $1500 to 2000 a month rent.

If you look really hard you can find a studio for like $1,000 but if you want a modern one with good electric in a less sketchy area, you’re looking at $2,200 and up. It’s not do-able for a lot of people…. I’ve had my place for 9 years so I’ve been lucky to not have high rent but the debt I’m in is crippling so living like this in a stealth truck apartment is something i romanticize with all day. Some people try to emphasize this as a temporary situation because they don’t like the idea of people not settling down (as it can create higher crime in some ways) and other things like commitment issues and sometimes even I’ve heard people mention that temporary element in a snarky “not a high achiever like the rest of us” kind of tone. Some are not seeing or realizing the higher you climb the economic ladder the harder you can fall down because of finances. So the idea of complete freedom and the ability to move anywhere at anytime is like….. eating a delicious meal after you’ve been starving for months, to a person like me. A person who sacrificed a lot to make tons of money only to realize a hurtful conclusion about money, social status. Etc. Don’t mean to Project anything on here but what I’m saying is, some of us are nomads, some of us are meant to stay put. Freedom on wheels is what i see here! Freedom and comfort in the smartest way.
Brilliantly constructed using ingenuity instead of large sums of cash. I like the way you unutilized common available objects and materials and integrated them so well.
I’d have turned it up the other way for a couple of reasons, rain would run off it better, instead of being scooped inwards and with it turned the other way you’d be able to scope out that side of the van to see who or what was outside. A fly screen would also be a good idea.

Great layout and use of space. The bed doesn't interfere with anything, and his kitchen is very useful with plenty of space for setting things down and prep-work.
I was gonna do a Schoolie or a van truck in 2019. I was talked out of it. My Family never supports until I show success. Timing is everything. I still want to do something like this and Jason inspires me to figure it out. Jason is a delight and if He applies his skills to URBAN LIVING! WHAT A WONDERFUL WORLD IT WOULD BE!

I've been living in my 28 foot RV parked on streets for 5 years now and haven't talked to the cop's once.
Then again it's not a broken down piece of shit I'm not a doper and I don't stay parked in the same place.

A student at my Uni lived in a cube van in the parking lot - they only charged you for a full day when you left, you could literally just park a car in the lower lot and leave it there (I've left my winter beaters parked there over summers, cost me $10) - anyways that guy found an outlet near one of those green power boxes, and got a gym membership, where he took care of his hygiene requirements. Dude did this for a few years, it was genius. On super cold nights, he crashed in the basement of the library, no one EVER went down there (including myself, and I worked there for 10 years).
I love how he designed it to look like an ordinary work van from the outside. Very wise!!

I like the loft,,the sink. The refrigerator is rather small..but he's a college student. Expenses. ..must go towards gasoline..and vehicle insurance. It must run over 100 per month.. it's a commercial vehicle....I like this creation.

Well basically this is parked most of the time as he's a student, so the cost of petrol won't be excessive, and NO RENT Great job for his current lifestyle.
He seems so very happy with his living arrangements. His work truck home is incredibly thought out, and it looks so comfortable. It's no wonder why he smiles all the time. I'm so happy for him!

I worked in the towing and repossession industry for over 10 years and now law enforcement - Just a heads up if you don't already know - those older Ford vans/trucks are extremely easy to break into and steal. I suggest installing a hidden kill switch to be safe. I'd be a shame if your home disappeared.
can vouch for this! My old Ford Expeditions ignition failed once and I was not able to repair for like 3 weeks and ended up going the Hotwire way to get by till I got it fixed, was super surprised at how the wires were exposed under the dash

Think it through before you commit. People make decisions off impulses and many times they grow to regret their decisions. If anyone has any money to put down on a house, use it to buy conventional real estate. In 10 years this guy in the video will have discarded this truck and made nothing on it while you will have a piece of real estate that will have appreciated nicely

Sweet! I lived in a stealth van for about 2 years, saw every state in the US except Hawaii, drove the Yukon and saw much of Canada. Never paid a dime in campground fees, never got hassled by the cops and never bothered anybody either. It's a lot of fun if you can manage it.

Re-watching after a long break. I'm usually not a big fan of motorized houses, but Jason's take is really exceptional. Among the best features is his mindset: 80% urban rather than the reverse and built to purpose.
This has got to be the coolest home on wheels I have ever seen. Small and cozy yet practical. 😊

This has got to be The Smartest tiny home build I have ever seen! And I have watched literally hundreds of tiny home videos (from all kinds of channels, not just this one). Having to constantly deal with either space rent or having to "get permission" to park - those are problems because the rent can go up, or the owner of the space can decide they won't rent anymore. Also getting permission to park on someone's property is great - until they rescind their permission. Seems most tiny homes are very reliant on where they can be. This guy figured out a way around that. Major kudos! Really awesome job.
How about the necessity of a real address for everything in society? For work, school, registry of motor vehicles…etcetera. That will not be realistic for most people,…unless you want to live off-the-grid, kind of.

Camp potties and compact composting toilets can be stashed so easily. Sink baths are efficient whether you aim to save water or not. Showers at gyms are gratis for members. There are also private outdoor shower setups for vanlifers. And yes, this build is impressive to me. 😘

Easily one of my favorite conversions! I really like the outside stealth aspect. The inside is so modern but functional. Perfection! Genius! The water capacity is the kicker.
Super clever guy! He’s also lucky to have a friend that helped him build the interior and space saving ideas.

I think this may be one of my most favorite tiny homes ever. STEALTH IS THE KEY!!! I kept thinking however, that you could make a heavy income by renting your outer surface space with advertising wraps! I hear that it’s good money… and you wouldn’t want for anything while in grad school! Nobody would know it was stealth inside even still!
This is one of the better builds I've seen.He utilized every bit of space well,he designed it to fully fit his needs .Full kutchen,full office area,full living area,full bed,full shower space.Very nice.
The only changes could be a smaller desk to provide more kitchen space or storage.
A bespoke sofa with storage under, but I like the idea of free and upcycling.
Personally I’d like a built in cooker, but that may come in time when he does a rebuild.

Despite it being a cheaper option than an apartment in the long-term, having something like this is a luxury in itself. You’d need the resources and skills or friends with skills to make something like this. The results are awesome.

Yea unfortunately tiny home/alt living are advertised as something everyone can do but that's far from the truth. Tons of people who build these homes have some kind of labor skill that transfers over to help reduce cost OR they already make a solid wage and can afford to slowly work on it over the course of a year+. Most videos I find they're always like a 3rd generation carpenter with a family of electricians/plumbers or their some high paid salary person who works remotely. This lifestyle is far from achievable for most people.
But first I need to figure out how to obtain a friend.
They have companies that do it for you…I’d go that route. Pay that off n live my best life
He's studying Urban planning - what a great way to set himself up for his transition - imagine telling an interviewer about how you built out your own stealth living facility to live IN the city with solar power and all - sure he's selling it. Mission accomplished.

I love the rear door/patio but will look for a van with a hydraulic lifter on the back already. A slim tv on the wall instead of the art painting maybe relaxing.
This is an incredible build and use of the space. The full size bed loft area, decent size couch and full size desk as well as shower are top notch in my book. The fact that he doesn't have to constantly shift a bunch of things around to convert the living room into a bed etc is pretty cool.

the tiny home thing is already out of favor with millennials. sure they make great youtube videos, but millennials are now of real home buying age and trying to start a family. living out of a tiny home on wheels and vlogging won't cut it
I'm certain not every millenial wants to start a family. This is perfect for the one that enjoys their own company or that of one other on occasion through their travels.
@@overlapmedia not every, but most do. and with the way our demographics are headed....almost all better want to start families and have a lot of kids. we can only bring in so many immigrants to make up the difference. glorifying living in a van to millennials on youtube channels isn't what we need to be doing as a nation, we need to be promoting family life and child bearing.
@@jgg204 We have more than enough people in the world. There are plenty of immigrants who will come to your country if you let them. The minimalist lifestyle is much better than capitalist/consumer greed. The earth cannot cope with its resources constantly being replaced with waste. Less is more.

Reeealy nice build! The loft bed would be a bit claustrophic for me, but nice not having to hinge down a bed from the walls or something. Good, roomy kitchen space, and even a shower! 👍🏾👍🏾
The extra ventilation he added for the loft bed would help with any claustrophobia
The convertible sofa bed will solve that problem, there is ample space for that. and the shower space can be a little bit bigger and can have a sliding door
This is the smartest custom build I've seen, and my neighbor makes these day in, day out. It's a literal apartment that's hidden in a box track, fucking genius.
This is absolutely brilliant!! So much thought went into the build and not a single inch of space wasted. The truck basically dissapears in any environment and you'd have no idea it's a small studio apartment! Great job.
The vest is legit, not only for construction. truckers wear them because a lot of shipping yards require them
Also, for if one is helping at a bus stop to get cars to stop while the kids are being picked up or dropped off.
Seriously, if you have a vest, hardhat and steel toe boots. You can literally walk into any construction site or yard and nobody will stop you. "Act like you belong". And for this I can image he can easily park in any yard.
That is so well thought out and pleasant to live in. One thing I really like is that comfy looking couch. I see so many that don’t have what seems to be a really relaxing spot to read, veg, watch tv, etc. Too many great things to list, it looks excellent to me. Great job!

This is the perfect permanent living arrangements for me. This is exactly what I would need. I would have no need for the computer work station that would allow enough for a recliner which is all I need that isn't there now. Very nice looking , just think this size apt in New York City and lots of other places will cost $1500 to 2000 a month rent.
@@johnwyatt8057 is that the rent average for studios where you live? You’re in NY right? Out here in CA, the inflation is crazy now…. If you look really hard you can find a studio for like $1,000 but if you want a modern one with good electric in a less sketchy area, you’re looking at $2,200 and up. It’s not do-able for a lot of people…. I’ve had my place for 9 years so I’ve been lucky to not have high rent but the debt I’m in is crippling so living like this in a stealth truck apartment is something i romanticize with all day. Some people try to emphasize this as a temporary situation because they don’t like the idea of people not settling down (as it can create higher crime in some ways) and other things like commitment issues and sometimes even I’ve heard people mention that temporary element in a snarky “not a high achiever like the rest of us” kind of tone. Some are not seeing or realizing the higher you climb the economic ladder the harder you can fall down because of finances. So the idea of complete freedom and the ability to move anywhere at anytime is like….. eating a delicious meal after you’ve been starving for months, to a person like me. I’d have turned it up the other way for a couple of reasons, rain would run off it better, instead of being scooped inwards and with it turned the other way you’d be able to scope out that side of the van to see who or what was outside. A fly screen would also be a good idea.

A good point and I wondered if that was why he fitted it upside down, but a dark tint on the glass and a fly screen or curtain would solve that problem.
If you put one on the other side you'd get great cross-ventilation.
I think I would need a few more windows on both sides & up in the loft. It feels claustrophobic. Otherwise its great!

Of all the 1’000’s of setups I’ve seen in vehicles, tiny homes, etc, this was by far the best idea and most practical. I could live in that thing indefinitely
Great layout and use of space. The bed doesn't interfere with anything, and his kitchen is very useful with plenty of space for setting things down and prep-work.
I was gonna do a Schoolie or a van truck in 2019. I was talked out of it. My Family never supports until I show success. Timing is everything. I still want to do something like this and Jason inspires me to figure it out. Jason is a delight and if He applies his skills to URBAN LIVING! WHAT A WONDERFUL WORLD IT WOULD BE!

You can do it both of you. I believe in you I don’t have money either I’ve been going paycheck by paycheck but I’ve managed to get my jeep to where I could almost live in it I still want a battery of some sort before I live in it but I’ve did it with very little so I no anyone else can too
