First of all, I want to thank you for creating such as an informative videos and sharing it. Without a doubt, it will help a lot teachers in most cases. Secondly, I wanted to know how can l as an non-native English teacher help students to grasp and activate the rules of intonation while speaking? What kind of class activities do you think will be effective?
Mam please make a video on the rules of ŋ and ŋg where should we write egma and where we are supposed to write both in transcription. After 3 days I have to give paper please 🙏
Okay, I'll consider it for a future video! 😊 I have a shorts about onset, nucleus & coda. You can watch it here: ruclips.net/user/shortsREC-eabiAuE?feature=share
On how the tonic syllable in a tone unit relates to intonation patterns. What I understand is that if a word is prominent, if the intonation is rise, the pitch of that word is risen and vice versa if it is fall. But that is confusing as words are normally stressed. In a word the stressed syllable becomes longer, higher in volume and with a higher pitch. So if we have a fall intonation in the word "request" that the second syllable is stressed, even though it is the stressed syllable, the pitching is lower than the first syllable. Am I right?
Hi Billie! First of all, thank you so much for your videos, they are amazing, very very clear. I am really into pronunciation and particularly, I am focusing on stress and intonation... I have a question related to the intonation of the sentence: I ordered a cake with cream on it, I would like to know why the work cake has a rising intonation... Again, thank you so much for these valuable videos!
Hello Eliana! I said the sentence with a rise on cake, but you could say it with a fall as well. Here it doesn't make as much of a difference in meaning but the rise clearly indicates there is more to come. I hope this help! 😊
