    It was because of cal that they even went to kentucky,hell he could have gotten them at Memphis.

      Cal could have got alot of those players at Memphis, but Cal ignited with Kentucky is why he was able to get 50 nba players. Going to Kentucky with Cal as coach was a plus. Getting Cal as coach with Kentucky as the school was a plus. That's how recruits saw it. At the end of the day, the recruits choked most years because their minds were focused on money by the end of the year, not March obviously. Cals brand is I'll put you in the NBA. The downfall to that is their hearts aren't on Cals teams.

    It's the NBA fault. Instead of following the lead of the most popular league in America (NFL), they do the complete opposite. Allowing 19 year old children into your league is a disaster. Look at how bad the NBA is and how European players are dominant.

    I went back and looked all this up. So, let's put his statement that "his senior season, Oak Hill high school team beat the '96 Mark Pope led Kentucky Wildcats" into context. Jackson played three seasons for a high school in Texas, until his junior season, when he became academically ineligible. He, then, transferred to Oak Hill Academy for his senior year - the ONLY year he ever played for them. Meaning, the ONLY Kentucky team that he could possibly be talking about scrimmaging, and that Pope played for, was the '95-'96 Kentucky Wildcats.
    Though it wasn't, for the sake of argument, let's say this game was actually played. He expects people to believe that said high school team would have actually "beaten" said college basketball team? Not to mention the fact that the team in question is the same college basketball team that went on to win the NCAA Tournament Championship that very same season; ending with an overall 34-2 record, a 26-1 regular season record, 16-0 in the SEC, and an 8-1 postseason [2-1 SEC Tournament; 6-0 NCAA Tournament] record; plus, an absurd +22 pt. margin of victory on the season. AND, this is the same Kentucky basketball team that, still to this day, is considered to be one of, if not, arguably, THE greatest college basketball team ever assembled. The statement that THIS Kentucky basketball team was beaten by a high school team that went 31-4 and was ranked 11th in the nation in High School Men's Basketball that same year, is just laughable. It's just complete, fabricated nonsense.
    That's as absurd as back when articles were arguing that the 2012 Wildcats could possibly beat the 2012 Bobcats, or that the 2015 Wildcats could potentially beat that year's 3 worst NBA teams. These are also fanciful games that never would have been allowed to take place. And, even if they had, would have ended with very predictable and guaranteed outcomes. There are defined levels to this $#!+, for a reason.
    So, a guy that signed with Arizona out of high school, yet never played a single Division 1 basketball game because he was deemed academically ineligible, expects people to believe this? A guy who joined (but never played for) "Bulter Community College" before being forced into the NBA draft for, again, poor academics, expects people to believe this? A second round pick, who spent his first four seasons bouncing around the D-League and, after a 17-year NBA journeyman career, ended up a guy who is best known for being involved in the "Malice at the Palace". This is the same man that expects everyone to believe that he and a bunch of other "kids" beat an elite college basketball team that went on to win that same year's national title, produced 9 NBA players from it's roster, and had so much depth that it went on to achieve two more consecutive national title appearances (winning 2 out of the 3). Really?
    Despite being old enough to remember this [90's] era of Kentucky basketball, it's almost as if people are too dumb to realize that these types of nonsensical comments can't be looked up and scrutinized. Especially, nowadays, with all this knowledge and history, literally, at people's fingertips.

    I would rather lose with kids who cared for tradition, those that truly endorsed the sentiment that, “The name on the front of the jersey means a hell of a lot more than the one on the back”. All that these kids who have de committed and transferred have done is reveal their hand, that they never cared about playing for Kentucky, but only wished to use Kentucky for their own selfish gain… and that’s the kind of players we have had for the last 12 years, and we’re surprised that we don’t win national championships.

    Politics isn't the reason he left, that entire article was based off something that was rumored to happen 3 years ago. Supposedly Kelly craft was running for governor and she was also helping Oscar tishebwe with NIL ect, and some people thought she was using him as support about political campaigns an such. Which that wasn't the reason cal left. Cal had been under achieving for the last 5 years and was feeling the pressure I think an the way he was carrying himself rubbed fans the wrong way as well and i wish he could have stuck it out and stepped down to maybe become an ambassador to the program or something. But it is what it is. The one and done five star freshman days are over, the teams that win now are the teams like uconn, Kansas, the veteran led teams, NIL has changed things.

    • @pmontyjaaaymes488
      @pmontyjaaaymes488 15 дней назад

      It wasn't the reason he left. But it was the reason the Crafts stopped helping Cal. She wanted to use Tshiebwe, and she wasn't helping Tshiebwe with NIL bc he couldn't make NIL here in the States. Thats why when they went to the Bahamas, he had to do his deal over there. But Cal wasn't about to let her use him or any player for her campaign. Dont blame him. That strained the relationship right there. Then, he cut access off from the boosters, and Matt Jones strained that relationship. Yeah, Cal hasnt had great seasons in the past 3 seasons. Not 5 seasons. 5 seasons ago was Covid. Nobody had a season. So it's been the last 3 years. Still 20 win seasons. That's winning. Every coach hits a wall. The question is, can the fans handle it when they hit that wall. UK fans can't. So they turn on the coach. Boo him out of the home games. Send death threats and attack his family. Yeah, I'd leave, too. Now, fans gotta soak in what they asked for now. Im a UK fan, by the way. But that's Cats fans for you.

      @@pmontyjaaaymes488 yeah I've always been one that defended Cal, and yeah can't blame Cal for protecting his players from that non sense, if it's true. Which regardless the fans here is what makes UK unique, yeah there are a portion that are crazy and some out of pocket, but one thing is for certain Kentucky has probably one of the largest fanbases in the country. So when things happen they get magnified and overplayed alot, When Cal left alot of fans were happy and Alot weren't, but regardless I'm just excited for a new era, and Alot of kids don't know anything other than Cal. The man been here for 15 years and I'm old enough to remember the days before and Kentucky still got good players and put dudes in the league, it was just done in a different way..Today on the other hand is way different, I'm afraid that NIL is gonna kill college athletics, and teams are just straight up bidding on players and these kids are going to places they normally wouldn't go to just because of money. There is no more traditional values to being a wildcat, or a blue devil or a tar heel, it's about to be a new era where the blue bloods aren't dominant anymore. It's interesting to see which blue blood schools can continue success and which ones fall. Mark pope has his work cut out, hopefully Kentucky can get back to being Kentucky basketball again.

    Idk, I think they aren’t giving these young kids any credit. These kids/recruits love basketball and the history of basketball. Basketball is their whole life. Granted, not all kids will know everything about the history, but they will know all a as bout their favorite team. The players, the records, the coaches, and that love will be towards the name on the front of the jersey as well. And if that school recruits them, they will be there. I loved the Calipari era and all those 5 stars/NBA players! Boogie, Wall, Davis, Maxey, so damn many…! I hated hearing Boogie talk like that, but it’s not gonna change how I feel about my Wildcats. I can’t say I agree with his assessment either, but to be honest I truly don’t know. I do know that dudes high school team didn’t scrimmage The Untouchables!!! No coach would have their team (scrimmage) a high school team. To much at risk, safety, among other things too. Kentucky will be fine !

    There was only one 5* in the FF this year. One. The game has changed and one n done ain’t it. College basketball is no longer amateur because of portal and NIL. Boogie is one of my all time favs but like most people everything is relative to their own experience. When you look at numbers and analytics those opinions just are easily disproven. Those 5* players Cal gets were always going to be NBA guys. Cal didn’t wave a wand and get Boogie drafted. He had intangibles that simply can’t be coached. Wall was always going top 5. Cal has had 35 first rounders and only one championship. Some of the biggest names in the NBA came off Cal’s bench. There is no spinning that. UK wants to win and we will. Best of luck to Cal. If he wins at Arkansas that’s ok, because he was never winning another one here. Years from now when Cal is gone from this earth Demarcus Cousins and the rest of that Wall team will still be beloved here. I have zero animosity towards Cal. I honestly wish him well. I will also like to add that the story going around about Crafts and Oscar is an urban legend. It literally never happened. Lots of boosters left Cal. Was it everybody else or was it Cal? Because the boosters just scraped a 100 mil offer up for Hurley.

  • @gkniffen
    @gkniffen 17 дней назад

    The "hype, the media, the push" wasn't winning tournament games! Five-star recruits and first-round exits? That's unacceptable at UK. Kentucky fans want a TEAM that plays well together, runs an exciting offense, gets after it on defense, and competes! We want a coach that runs a SYSTEM and players that FIT that system. Cal would always say, "just give me the best talent and I'll figure it out." He had the best talent, but these past five years the teams have insufferable to watch. Just lousy basketball and poor execution. Teams can beat individual talent. Pope and UK are going to be fine. We might not "be on ESPN every week" anymore, but once we start winning tournaments, they won't have a choice to broadcast us. Being "cool" ain't everything. We want banners in Rupp Arena again. You can keep "cool."
