The first lawnmower I ever used as a kid in the late 50's was my grandfathers with a 5 S engine ,always started first pull and ran perfectly for years.
I loved using that old reel mower right into the 70's.
I would turn the idle down so low it would just tick over like a watch.
Wow that seat is better than factory
Thanks Bud!!☻
In the early 1960s my neighbor had an Eclipse reel lawnmower with this engine. He was very old and could easily start it with this lever system.
I'm sure proud how the Ford truck has turned out . You did a great job on it.
Those little Briggs are almost indestructible. With just a little of your magic and you will have it going again. Cheers Buddy
Thank you Lloyd!! Yeah we're definitely proud of it, we had alotta help with it!!☻
I'm a big fan of the 5S. It was the first engine I ever wrenched on, a gift from my grandfather. Still have it. I've thought about restoring it, but that would erase the history of the time I've spent messing with it. Still runs good, burns a little oil.
Just starting this series - I can see how beautiful it will become all ready.
Always enjoy seeing a old briggs engine when they were actually made to last , nice seeing the ford 100 come together for you finally 😊
Thanks John!! That's why I like working on the old cast iron Briggs!! I don't work on the newer stuff unless I have to keep it running to finish mowing the lawn!!☻
Back to the old days buddy 👍
Yay! A classic Roadking engine resto video!!!
Yeah Buddy!! It's been a while eh!!☻
That engine is as old as me to the month 😂😂 '
From the looks of the outside of that motor I was sure it would be fighting you the whole way but instead it looks great under the exterior covers! This should be a fantastic project and a good excuse to be in the shop and take us with you. 😂👍
We were thinkin' about giving it away at the ScoutCrafter Spring Extravaganza!! We'll have to wait and see if it's worthy eh!!☻
its soo cool to see you still making videos i used to watch you all the time when i was a kid you got me hooked on working on small engines i remember looking at your RUclips every day waiting for another inline 4 briggs update video
That's cool!!☻
You will have that running like a new one in no time. Like the Briggs restorations.
Thanks Larry!! I hope you're right!!☻
A very nice project that will keep you in the garage and out of the elements. I know you'll have this one running like a gem.
Thanks Wyatt!! It's been a while since we did something like this!! That's what brought alotta people to the channel!!☻
Sure do miss these build videos. I hope one day we see the radial engine finished.
We won't see the Radial again till Mike retires and we have sufficient time to do it right!!☻
Worth the wait@@805ROADKING
Hi Roady. Just bingeing through this one. Off to watch part 2 now.
Love the truck but I'm excited to see how this Briggs turns out!
Thanks Bud!!☻
Hey, just what the Dr. orderd for 2024, I knew I was feeling a bit low on rusty Iron😉 fresh outta the barn too😁 Always a pleasure Roadking & Have A HAPPY NEW YEAR✌👍
Thanks Eric!! It's been a while eh!! Happy New Year Bud!!☻
All right, another Briggs!
Oh yeah!! RK is doin' an engine!! And it's a 5S. What a great new years gift. If I remember correctly, some dude named Everett once said "If the shaft is small it's Righty Loosey, but if it's large it's Lefty Loosey". I'll bet there will be no need for a part three on this one....Cheers RK
I'm sure there will be more than 3 parts, we haven't even gotten it apart yet!! Who knows what surprises await us!!☻
Love this truck looks amazing
Thanks Bud!!☻
Guess I must have missed a few episodes, but that truck looks amazing!
Thank you Bud!!☻
Been following you for years roadking, you got me into engine restos, cant tell ya how pleased I was to see am engine vid come up!, all the best for 2024 bud from England 🙌
Thanks Brett!! Yeah it's been a while!! Have a great New Year Mate!!☻
Nice job on the truck!! I can’t wait to see part two!! Happy New Year!
Thanks Rodney!! Happy New Year Bud!!☻
Good to watch and engine restoration again.👍
Yeah Buddy!! It's been a while!!☻
@@805ROADKING Now for Part 2, when you can.
You've done a fine job on the truck, but I've missed these engine teardown and repair videos. I like the way you don't immediately try to turn the engine like some people.
But that cylinder head washer was left by someone else? You must think we were born yesterday. 😂😂
Thanks Chris!!☻
Love the briggs vids !
Thanks Bud!!☻
Off to a great start of the old tried and true engine refurb. Happy New Year, EJ!
Thanks George!! Happy New Year Bud!!☻
So speaking of the old days. I had a 5S, with the foot starter, similar to what you have in the video.
Came from my mom's cousin, down on the farm in Williamstown (NJ). I was probably about 12. Piston rusted solid in the cylinder. I never managed to get it freed up. It was my first engine.
The Old Dude (Bill) that hangs with us is from Piney Hollow Rd and my Accountant grew up in Willietown and still owns the Car Wash there, his Dad use to own the Pharmacy in town!!☻
@@805ROADKING My mom's family had a farm there off of Corkery Lane and Blue Bell Rd.
I spent many days there as a kid during the summers. Visiting my "Uncle" Nick.
Taught me to use the cutting torch when I was about 12.
I miss New Jersey.
Happy New Year !
Lookin forward to this series.
Happy New Year Bud!!☻
I have a vibrating roller with a briggsandstratton engine it was still running when I parked it 5 year's ago, Ford looks excellent those seats are amazing, thanks for sharing, wishing you and your loved ones, a Healthy and Prosperous New Year
Thank you Donald!! Hope you and the Family have a great New Year!!☻
I wasn't interested in the truck work. I missed the engine nights and builds. Glad we have a new small engine project!
Yeah Buddy!! It's been a while!!☻
Another fun project under way. Happy New Year Buddy!
Yeah Buddy!! Happy New Year Bob!!☻

I have watched every single video of the Ford restoration. Will there be a finale to that series? That being said, I love seeing you get back to a good old Briggs resto :)
Thanks Chris!! Yeah we still have a video or two left on the old Ford!! We just picked up an Electric Power Steering unit Me and Mike will probably put in this Spring!!☻
Happy New Year RK 👍🏻
Thanks Bruce!! Happy New Year Bud!!☻
28:32 you wanna know a secret? loosen the locking nut on the bottlecap and you can slide the tube up to use upside down.
Love the Briggs videos Roadking! Thats how I found your channel, think it was the 4 cylinder Briggs videos. Looking forward to more vids. Thanks
Thanks Andrew!!☻
Great little project mate :)
Thank you Mate!!☻

Thanks Willie!! Happy New Year Bud!!☻
Ford came out awesome. Can't beat a 5S.
Thanks Goomy!!☻
I had a friend who used to work for a motorcycle package delivery service. They called him Caesar because he managed to destroy a few bike engines the way he rode them.
The ol Ford looks great, Roadking! Good luck with the little 5S. I used to have a pile of those little 5 and 6S baby Briggs motors. While on the subject, I have got another Briggs you guys might be interested in.. It's a PB model off an old Motomower in really good shape. Still mounted on the Motomower stand. I dont think I'd want to ship it, given what happened with the Model FH and Y I gave you guys. This one is pretty nice. I gotta say it was really nice to see you and Mike fix those up when you did. Let me know if you're interested.. I've got the PB currently for sale.
Hey Tim!! Yeah I'd be interested in the PB and I agree with you about shipping!! I don't do it anymore, it never works out well!! Send me an email and lets see what we can work out!! I have a friend where you live, plus me and Mike usually go to Easton!!☻
That looks like a washing machine engine
Its good the hear you are in good shape oh wait you were talking about the fastener LOL
Luckily we're also in decent shape for an old Man Boot!!☻
The truck is beautiful and I love the old engine restoration, but what about that CT90.
Thanks Ray!! Not much to do on the Lil' Honda!! Cleaned the Carb, Registered and Insured it!! We'll probably reupholster the seats but that's about it!!☻
Hey RK- I’m with you on the hand tools vs impact especially on vintage stuff… What is your 50/50 mix?? Thanx….
It's Acetone/Automatic Transmission Fluid!!☻
Boy someone sure ain't making it easy for you on this one fingers crossed 🤞
Yeah Buddy!! Hopefully the Cylinder wall is OK!!☻
Quick blast of easy-start'll sort out that pesky buzzing noise... :P
Yeah Buddy!! Brake Cleaner works great also!!☻
I know Kroil quiets crickets!!
What is the ingredients for your 50/50 mix?
50% Acetone, 50% Automatic Transmission Fluid!!
dont see many of the lever starts ive got one i think its a w series but haven't ran it since i bought it
Yeah Buddy!! I wouldn't say they are rare but they sure are scarce!!☻
LMAO! Most of the ones I've run across were built in 1951.
That is funny!!☻
its 71 years old the year I was born yeehaa
Thanks Brian!! We're not good doing Math on the fly!!☻
