Talking about your plastic feeler gauges makes me think of a story. We have always had a lathe and small shop at home. And my dad for years would use this plastic dial caliper to measure stuff that came free with a purchase at a bearing shop probably before I was born. And I got a cheap Fowler caliper as soon as I could afford one. I tried to get dad to use my caliper for years but he was stubborn and wouldn’t. His parts over the years got more and more off and he said it’s probably because he was getting old. One day I measured standards with my and his caliper and I found out that dad’s caliper had shrunk by a consistent percentage so the more you opened the jaws the more off you would be. Once I convinced dad what had happened over the years to his caliper he looked so betrayed pitched it angrily probably thinking about all the ruined or off parts over the years. It was the only time I ever saw my dad pitch any tool he is depression era and doesn’t waste a nickel. Man the thought makes me laugh thanks for reminding me 😂
Great Story!!☻
Love seeing this little briggs come together
Gett'in close now mate....Looks great.
Thanks Mate!!☻
Brother RK,
Great movie!! 117k+ subscribers. Congrats!! I've been with you since you were a young shaver. Look at you now. Like fine wine, getting better with age. Keep up the great movies!!
Thank you Dan'l!! We appreciate you hangin' with us for so long!!☻
Two thumbs up RoadKing.
Thanks Bud!!☻
These guys could weld wood. Looks great Roadking
Thank you Joe!!☻
Nice work getting the ignition system all setup and in place. Adding the brass knurled nut is a nice touch. Won't be long now. Cheers Buddy
Thanks Lloyd!! Yeah we'll wrap this up next video!!☻
Everett , Mike is correct, if the piston has a arrow or a x on it always faces the flywheel ( frontof the engine ) , so you can buy Mike lunch.
I always buy him Lunch, He's my Buddy!!☻
then the fun part, starting it and i cant wait.
Nice work, Everett, on the Briggs! You make it very interesting. Tom
Thanks alot Tom!!☻
I agree with both of you.,because of the style horizontal and vertical and also the way it is mounted on the machine.
😂Great story! I wish congress worked like that.
ALWAYS ENJOY watching you build a lil' Briggs! Cheers RoadKing! ...Newk from Kentucky
Thanks Newk!!☻
Another great video. I always learn something from every video of yours I watch no matter what you are doing.
Thanks alot Bob!!☻
Won't be long now, nice job RK👍🏻
Thanks Bruce!!☻
LOL, The Professor is always right :)
I'm not that smart but I'm smart enough to know Mike's always right, especially when it comes to engines!!☻
Looks like a new engine there King .. Nice work ! 👍👍
Thanks Buddy!!☻
They broke the mold after 805!
NGK makes really good stuff, so far I never had any issues with their products. Spark plugs, wires and coils, all perfect.
Another fine vid RK!! The little details like the spark plug, add up to a great restoration!! Thanx!!
Thanks Tom!!☻
it's lookin like a brand new engine,, good job.
Thank you Vern!!☻
First start is coming soon, it is looking like a new engine.
Thanks Larry!! Yeah we'll wrap this up next video!!☻
Sweet!
Interesting discussion, front from back, flywheel end some time is the back of engine.
It's so close!!!!! Thanks!
Yeah Buddy!!☻
We don't call it the X, we call it the twitter... :P
I see what you did there! 😊
Well, on big engines they call the clutch "side" the rear, probably because that's how they were facing originally in early cars, even though in most cases the flywheel is on that "side" as well, so I guess Mike is correct and for small engines the front is just the opposite side of the PTO.
I would call the front also the flywheel
Beautiful work!
Thanks Buddy!!☻
Sorry Roadking I have to agree with Mike. I also think that the flywheel is the front. I call them horizontal shaft engines. None of this is important if the piston and rod end up in the correct position. As long as that happens it doesn't matter what you call it.😉👍
I'm not that smart but I'm smart enough to know Mike's always right, especially when it comes to engines!!☻
Awesome video you're definitely see me on the next one thank you for the video
Thanks Lil' Joe!! We'll be lookin' for ya!!☻
im going to have to agree with both of you. while youre right to say which is front-side-back, I would use those terms when building the engine. but then I agree with Mike how the front of the engine can be where the flywheel is, because when you're working on an engine, that can technically be the front.
To be sure I have the correct torque on the connecting rod I usually just tighten it until it strips and then back off a half turn.
Lol!! What ever works eh!!☻
It's a good thing i wasn't assembling that engine. Just on the way the connecting rod jas a carb side, I would have assumed that X meant eXhaust side.
was my idea about the wobbly bits :)
Indeed it was, and a great one at that!!☻
Thumbs up!
Thank you Jack!!☻
Honestly I never knew the flywheel section of the motor was the front. I ass-u-me-d that the direction of intended travel would determine that. So is the front of our automobile engines still where the water pump and fan attaches to? 🤗
Great stuff!!!
Thanks Mate!! I'm not that smart but I'm smart enough to know Mike's always right, especially when it comes to engines!!☻
I like use the German torque spec, which is gootentite.
That's the Universal Standard in our Shop, never let us down yet!!☻
Nuffa This!
Your disagreement with Mike reminds me of the who's on first skit!
Yeah that's about what it was like!!☻
What kind of paint did you use for the block.hi temp
I've always use regular Rustoleum!! Never had any problem with heat!!☻
Wrist pin clips ?
They're in there!!☻
Did you install wrist pin clips?
Yeah Buddy!!☻
We don't need no torque Wrench.
Not when you have a good Armstrong Wrench!!☻
You know the directions are old when it is a single page, no warnings, and English only.
Ain't that the truth!!☻
Ok so if you mount that motor on a mini bike frame the rear of the motor would be the exhaust and so the front would be as you say RK just saying and now comes the can of worms 🐛🪱 😆 Thanks for the lesson on the point gap I have never had to do that because I've never had a motor that old until this tiller I picked up so now I think I can adjust that now 👍 Can't wait for the next one !!!
Sorry but Mike is right… rule of thumb is the rear of an Engine is the drive side BUT there are exceptions.. okay ready? A lot of modern engines don’t have the crank in line with the cylinders.. meaning if the crank was straight up the engine would already be past top dead center. I know that’s hard to absorb but welcome to todays variable, compression and valve timing… if you remember I made a video explaining how your Corolla gives you the illusion of shifting gears when the transaxle is a constant velocity unit …
