sorry if the audio is peaking, I just got a new mic and am still learning how to get the best out of it, I'll try to speak further away from the mic in future uploads
oh also i was a little unsure whether i wanted to do a video on this topic since a lot of people have already discussed it, but nonetheless i hope you learned something new
Enjoy :3
It was a much needed change, although keys are now almost useless. They should give them some other function like being able to open chests instantly/faster. Or they could change breakable walls to "breakable doors" that can be either destroyed by killers or opened by survivors using a key.
Ooooh, i like both ideas!! Would love to see either (or both!) added to the game
The breakable doors idea is in my opinion a little too ambitious for the devs to add at the current moment (they're probably busy with other stuff, perhaps they are making the new anti-camping mechanic), although the instant chest opening is something that makes a lot of sense and would probably bring keys closer in line with other items, such as e.g. medkits
I like the idea of keys are meant to be expendable; have a build around chests and bring a key to roll for each chest and then throw away the key in replacement for a good item!
I never had a problem with keys as a killer sometimes one or two Suvs where escaping like that but it really didn't happen often very rare so I disagree
@@p.j.02 While some players experienced it less, others experienced it way more often and got really fed up with that, so imo the hatch change was probably more beneficial than harmful
The longest known hatch standoff was 3 hours long, with video proof. Though there’s a rumored 6 hour long hatch stand off mentioned on Reddit. This is the reason why matches automatically end after an hour.
Yeah i knew in the back of my head that much longer hatch standoffs had probably happened than the ones i mentioned in the video, although I'm kinda curious about the 3 hour long one, do you know where I could find footage of that?
@@sashko8448so I remember watching it on RUclips like 4 years ago. Looking for it isn’t yielding any results, either it’s not picked up by the search bar anymore or it was removed, deleted, or privated. I’m afraid I can’t verify my own memory
The game was way less competitive and more fun when hatches were around. Now every perk has something to do with gens or exhaustion. They didn’t have to obliterate the hatch
I agree with you that dbd should be fun instead of completely balanced, the hatch definitely deserved a nerf, although they didn't have to make keys useless with that
here to give you some more engagement for the good content! There arent many "DBD History" videos around especially not for specific mechanics.
Thanks! There's a lot more videos to come, the next one is about BNPs
You are on the content grind, and I approve of your vids, nice commentary
Thank you, I appreciate it!
Remember the day you got the whole gang escaped while the killer just standing there and watched you escape in front of him
This video is in my recommended right after I got a hatch escape by using the key to re-open it after Michael meyers closed it and left the area LMAO
If you take the key to the trial, then also take Left Behind. Even if the killer closes the hatch, you will simply open it and leave when the killer is far enough away. All you need is to be the last survivor, find the hatch and not be seen by the killer when trying to escape through the hatch :)
Yeah this combo is quite nice, although whenever I try it out I either die before my teammates or we just complete the gens and escape through the gates
Yeah true, I've done this quite a few times. It helps to use blueprint, and don't equip the key while in lobby until the last 5 sec before match starts so killer doesn't know you have key.
@@CMX431 Correctly noticed with the last five seconds, but only this is not a guarantee of success. Usually, the average killer doesn't pay much attention to the keys, but some advanced players will not hang the penultimate survivor, knowing that you have the key, and will try to eliminate you first. Therefore, it is not enough to equip the key in the last moments - ideally, you should not catch the eye of the killer with the key in his hands at all.
In theory yes this is great, but what about killers slugging the last 2 survivors bc they don’t want you getting hatch? It completely ruins the entire hatch mechanic all bc killers are thirsty to win and get a 4k. Now if a survivor is nearby and you know this then that’s a different story, but completely slugging so you don’t even get a CHANCE to look for the hatch (even tho escaping through hatch doesn’t even reward you) is such an annoying playstyle. At this point just remove hatch, keys, and Left behind bc our only options are to hide once the killer slugs, continue doing gens hoping the killer does catch you, go save the slugged teammate, or all 3
I think claraboyance does a better job and can have some use outside of the search of the hatch
I got to enjoy the hatch mechanic when I started in September of that year. Or August. As survivor a friend of mine invited me to take hatch with him leaving someone on hook. Then as killer, I lost 3 kills to 2 keys
Found you from Noci! Please more DBD history videos, it's fascinating... Wish I would've played back then, seems more exciting :)
Noci is awesome, stay tuned for more DBD history videos!
Your content is really good👍. You're already 10x larger when I first watched. I'm proud that you are getting better 🎉
Thank you very much for the kind words!
i'd love to see this mechanic come back in a new game mode with the old mori system as well. A sort of lightning round mode of dbd could be really fun
Yeeeah that's a really cool idea! We'll see what new gamemodes the devs might add in the future, since they hinted at that in the latest player satisfaction survey
За първи път виждам българин, който да поства dead by daylight content. Страхотно видео ❤
i love dead by daylight history vids, even on the smalllest things. thank you for this!!
Добро видео! I love content like this, it's very educational for new players, and quite fun to look back on - it's astounding how broken the game was, and how our biases at the time made many players view it as normal. I'll certainly check out more of your videos.
Благодаря!
Since they nerf the rarity of medita addons and made em worst. They should buff the keys rarity and lower it or give it a use bc how is a ultra gonna be more useless than a brown med kit
Perhaps they could lower all keys' rarity by one tier (Skeleton key goes from iredescent to purple, dull key from purple to green and broken key from green to yellow) and make the blood amber an ultra rare addon to compensate
Ask memento mori.
In the Otzdarva video "17 reasons NOT to miss the old DBD" him and other veteran DbD players also talk about hatch standoffs, the longest one they know of lasting over 10 hours 😭
Love bulgaria from Romania. Varna was lovely, your content is great. Keep up the grind brother

I use the key for the reveal the killer aura being able to see mid chase what he is doing you win all the mindgames
Yeah the blood amber addon basically counters all mindgames
Видях българското знаме на видео на DBD и си казах, че веднага трябва да го гледам
хахах мерси
It's super hard getting the trophy for opening the hatch with the key. Actually finding the closed hatch is hard enough and just getting a usable key is hard and generally not worth bringing a key over anything else
True, medkits and toolboxes (even flashlights) are a lot more worth bringing than keys and yeah the trophy is incredibly hard to get, I've personally never opened the hatch with a key myself, but if you really want to do the challenge i suggest bringing left behind so that you can see the hatch even after it has been closed
really good video, keep up with the good work 🇧🇷👍
Thanks!
Oh god, please never bring the old hatch and key mechanics, that time was absolutely frustrating for killers
your content is amazing bro 👍
Thank you so much!
Making the key really useless is better than letting all 4 escape so early, its indeed the most needed ''nerf to the ground'' thing!
I am staying around I want to see you reach 10 000 subscribers
Hahah that would be a dream come true
If you are last survivor the key stil guarantees you escape unless hatch is right next to gate or something. Plus the aura readings. I dont know why people dont use it more.
i'm not sure if it would count but pre DC Bots, if you took a hatch offering and had a SWF team with 3 people DCing, you could easily get the 'escape through the hatch' mission, but now with bots taking over once a player DC you can no longer do it
You could definitely get the achievement by playing normally, it would just take slightly more time; though I agree, playing with a swf was also another way to do that
@@sashko8448 oh i should have clarified I meant it was for cheesing the tome mission.
Once, I was the last survivor and the killer found me and I was ALL AROUND THE MAP
I was in the main building, left corner, Right corner, bottom left and right corners and not once did I even hear the hatch, I think they got rd of it but it said I could find it
Sense I’m more of a stealthy survivor and have a lot of perks that let me know alot of my surroundings (where pallets/windows are, my teammates and even killer sometimes), I find the keys rather useful bc they have addons that give me even more information… but it is disappointing that the hatch doesn’t spawn 90% of the time
Keys are underrated in my opinion, wallhacks on your teammates is basically free bond + open handed, and the blood amber addon is really strong, also keys help quite a bit with window techs so they're definitely not completely useless
"craziest plays imaginable"
me thinking back looking for those two cloudettes for 20 minutes hiding out with a key.
LMAO, yeah perhaps I should have worded that a little differently
Iri keys are my second favorite item because of blood amber.
once upon a time it was Even worse, the hatch and clairevoyance were at the same time making escapes waaaaay easier because of the RNG involved with the hatch would be completely nullified by clairevoyance and all that could be in 1 surv only, but i see that this controversial stuff only appeared in old dbd Mobile version before the recent marcha update.
Keys/Hatch prior to the Mikaela patch were in the perfect spot. Currently if a Killer hard tunnels and sweats an early kill there is no counterbalance for the excessive pressure gained. That version of the hatch made sweatlord killers punished if someone brought or looted a key. Also similarly, Killers intending to camp 3 gens from the onset would also be equally impacted. In that case though a Survivor may have to take the bullet for the team to give the rest a chance of a hatch escape. With the current MMR system, hatch is only counted as a tie regardless, so the prior version allowing for a non-win escape was perfect and mostly only annoyed people who went out of their way to annoy others (hard-tunnelers and 3 genners). Technically the old hatch mechanic was a Killer win, even if anti-climatic (Lose/Tie/Tie/Tie is net negative on the Survivor's side, so its a Killer win). Notice what some of the current complaints of the game are, hard tunneling and 3 genning? The prior hatch version was the last best hope against that, and its removal further encourages scummy/annoying gameplay.
It's true that hatch escapes don't increase mmr, but what most players care about is whether they had fun or not, and having 3 survivors escape right in front of your face is certainly not a very enjoyable experience; im saying this as a survivor main
i'm not sure if its your survivor main brain that is talking or you just didn't bother to watch the video(s) but for BHVR to fix an issue or a whole game mechanic and change even the base of it then it surely must've been something i advise you to check just this little moment because i don't think every killer was tunneling camping gens unless it was abused (just like now) 8:23, also not to mention that the hatch wasn't the only problem back then since infinite loops and blocking the killer in specific spots like the main building of asylum and holding the game hostage mechanics existed (and meta perks that were only fixed recently after YEARS), so just from these dbd history videos the game seemed pretty unfair and survivor sided,
also for a killer to tunnel someone he has to at least hook that survivor once, so if you fall against a good swf or just better survivors than your actual skill (im pretty sure you know mmr issues very well if you played the game at least 50h) good luck to do it and even if you do you will never get more than 2 hooks on that surv before they all escape before your eyes, while the survivors just needed someone to loop the killer while holding 1 button and look for the hatch and escape. (and before you say skill issue or anything of the sort i'm not talking about myself because good swfs train me to be even better at the game so i never lose kinda, but i'm talking about your average trapper/wraith main who plays the game for 6h a week and just want to do some killer games after having a tiring day at school/work)
so to say that a mechanic that was abused to the point where they entirely changed the game for it was a lose for the survivors and win for killers then i honestly don't know if i should even argue at this point...
@@atari075 Yeah I'm totally a Surv main with 75% Killer hours and 25% Surv /s. Was every Killer abusing these design flaws? No, but it did at least offer an escape option that less people would have complained about if available during the peak of the degen defen 3gen meta. I have no problem with fixing garbo mechanics, but this was a comeback mechanic that required bringing an otherwise worthless item into the match to use. It was more fair to bring a key, because we had juicy medkits and (still) busted toolboxes, but the player was willing to forgo say 3 quick heals and a syringe to get out early if someone dies. It feels like complaining that someone in a shooter was only using the pistol when others bring grenade launchers. It just seems like the opponents doing you a favor is met with vitriol. Legit infinites most certainly were a problem, and forced triple vault windows like on Garden sadly still exist, and the filler pallets are sadly designed to be bloodlusted (at least on Garden/Borgo as M1 killers) so our maps haven't fully improved. Kinda like 2 steps forward 1 step back, we are needlessly losing when they fix a bad map like Blood Lodge, then release an even worse map like Eyrie. I would argue the best patch in terms of balance for both sides was either just before Mikaela was released, or when she came out and CoH was killswitched. Sadly 6.1.0 came and buffed tunneling needlessly (by nerfing DS), while also nerfing fair regression perks (Pop/Ruin) and buffing unearned regression perks (CoB/OC). The old pop/tinker was practically a free win on Blight/Nurse, but it was perfectly fine on everyone else. That just means Blight/Nurse were, and still are the problems, not Pop/Tinker. I don't see how a 4-man escaping through hatch then is any different from a 4-man escaping through the gates now. The only pain point would be if you brought No Way Out. Even then, if a killer got ran by 1 Surv for 5 gens then I think they have greater problems than keys, they either suck and need to improve in chase, or matchmaking was bad that match. Both of those problems again, aren't hatch at fault, but other facets of the game being the problem. While there have been many steps forward, we should also remember the steps back, and I'd definitely argue removal of hatch (in any meaningful capacity) was one of the steps back.
@sashko8448 3(or even 4) survs can still escape right in front of your face while teabagging at the exit gates. The problem still exists and wasn't addressed in any meaningful capacity. Adding a surrender button as Killer to end a match during EGC could skip the 'watch me leave' phase of a match on a loss. Same for Survivors if being slugged for the 4k. Both would benefit more from a surrender feature. It would be more common that you defend your gens and you see on the HUD 3 escapes. They didn't win, they escaped. They would have gate escaped if they could have won.
@@mizark3 i understand your point and i see where you're heading but the problem with the hatch was that people abused it and matches would last 5min at best (imagine blight or a good nurse at that time like who can win faster and i already experienced it without even hatch escape thing and it is pretty boring so just imagine) and also, as i said, i wasn't talking about myself because i want to get better at the game so going against good survivors is excellent for me, however, if we take into account what you said then there comes what i told you in my previous comment, the problem is your average wraith or billy main who doesn't have time to play a lot because of x and y reasons, but still want to have a fun time on dbd, but guess what, like you said the matchmaking is garbage (and it always was) so he will have a hard time for the little games that he will play and thats because of multiple issues bhvr created themselves (bad map balancing, bad mechanics that created infinite loops, tunneling and a lot of other things), and to top it off they take 2 years to fix one issue (they just recently added a search bar and bots in their customs like bro and apparently, not even yet, they're planning to add fov on killers like wow 😂) ,but you can't say to this guy get better or skill issue because he can't even put the slightest amount of time of the opponents he goes against, so what happens here is that dbd goes down in player base, because people cannot even catch up to the mmr they're playing against hence don't have fun getting bullied.
But the worst is that instead of fixing the current complaints, they add killers like skull merchant and rework maps in the worse way possible and they find it wierd that the community isn't happy
Your idea of surrendering a match is a thing that a lot of people asked for but just like the search bar it is going to take a while sadly. ( I hope that bhvr gets better at listening to their community and do a proper job with the next updates because it feels like they're just killing the game with time by making good designs and bad gameplays)
@@atari075 Yeah I get the weaker/average killer issue. That's why I typically try to tell them to intentionally 8 hook before kills. They will 'lose' their matches so that the bad MMR system can at least lower it enough, hopefully below the softcap of 'top MMR'. Then they can actually go against people relatively equal in skill/hours. Once they start winning the majority of those matches (with 9 hooks for first kill) they have gained enough skill or 'got gud' enough to stand, at least a chance, against the sweaty survs. Every time they lose I try to tell them to remind themselves they could have intentionally got an early kill to sway things in their favor, so it was their generosity that caused or at least influenced the Surv victory. That helps some people think along the lines 'they didn't win, I let them win' so the loss doesn't sting as harsh or at all.
It similarly is a problem when I get baby Survs autofilled from the bad matchmaking. I want to let them go because they NEED the BP and I don't in comparison. It also is really disheartening to continuously lose for either side. The problem is I would do them a disservice by inflating their MMR, so I have to stomp them instead. It's a lose-lose in my eyes. I'd prefer the old Grade-based matchmaking, but that is coming from someone who was always Red-rank equivalent, and maybe old Green/Yellow rank players are better off with MMR.
Think using a key to increase gate opening speed would be OP or not? I seriously can't come up with other ways to make keys viable again. Skeleton and Broken keys are alright for aura reading but Purple key is straight up useless.
I think that something as small as making keys open exit gates and/or chests 20% faster would bring them closer in line with other items, so yeah, good suggestion
Broken Keys shouldn't in a chest and give raw Key a small buff opening chest 25% 50% faster
The key thing is one of the hardest trophies to get precisely because of how useless it is. I only got it cause of the event, lol.
Yeah the trophy for opening the hatch with a key is incredibly hard to get, I've personally never gotten it before, although I'm curious, how did the event help you earn the achievement?
I wonder. While hatch pre changes was definietly unbalanced, way too much in favor of survivors, the rework kinda made it the opposite in situation where only 2 survivors are left. Because right now they are doomed, they can pretty much do one gen at best and one is guaranteed to die. And so often it ends up with killer just taking one surv hostage to prevent hatch spawning and getting 4 kills (which is maybe as frustrating to experience as survs doing unfair escape through hatch before its changes).
Base kit UB was definietly not a way to fix this issue. But maybe hatch spawning closed at 2 survs left (and opening at 1) would be? That way killer can't just slug, because slugging at 3 survs is very likely to backfire. Slugging that second surv for too long would give them a chance to find the hatch and escape once the other surv dies or 2 objectives for killer to hold - hatch and downed survivor (situation similar to noed and hook in end game or hook and downed surv, again in end game). It would also give back some niche use for keys.
But again, chances are it would kill that perfect 60% kill ratio devs want for every killer.
And yeah, I know that another suggestion which could help with that is letting survivors to just give up while slugged, but let's be real, killers would use that to force faster kills on survs by slug camping them for like a minute+ (which would be faster than 2+ minutes on hook). Survs already are giving up on hooks like crazy (I played as Singularity once and checked my cameras to find new target after hooking, I returned and survivor I hooked was already halfway through second phase - I didn't even camped intentionally).
Keys are still op in soloq, i legit managed to escape a tryhard hag that brought a dead dawg offering, cuz i stunned her with an event pallet and it gave me enough time to open the hatch right in front of her
Great video
Thanks!

Back in the old dbd hatch would spawn if the number of repaired generators exceeded the number of survivors left but now if only one survivor is alive it opens. So basically keys are useless because they don't do anything
Well at least they have aura reading abilities...
@@sashko8448 who cares about aura of survivors or gens? Other then that it's useless. It's better to use tool box or flashlight
Or you don't think.
I've saved many times my own ass and a teammate opening the hatch early with keys.
It still spawns early depending gens/survivors.
@@Bohh219skilled players that know the value.
But your strategy of running around like a chicken with their head cut off, works. Eats a shit load of time and makes you high profile vulnerable as hell, but sure.
Keys should also use agaisnt chess this would make it more playable
I think Hatch should spawn again like under the old conditions but just make it so the key can only open it once 1 survivor remains or all gens are powered. i wanna camp hatch again while the killer hooks my last teammate on deathhook or as killer camp hatch before it opens and instantly close it again man
I think they should've kept the mechanic for the hatch to spawn closed with any less then 3 survivors with -1 gen, if a killer gets someone out of the game it's just too easy for them to win unless a gen already has enough progress in a three gen
They would probably have to also make the hatch opening action take more time, I agree that a 3v1 is hard for the survivor side but the killer probably earned that kill
I'd say the killer has earned it if they've made it that far. I see how it can be annoying, but to be fair it just depends on what perks survivors are running and such. I for one am happy with modern hatch. Glad I started here, cause old hatch really seems like it was somewhat unfair.
@@mint5438 Really well said

Nah being able to see the killers aura on command for a 30 to 45 (add ons depends) seconds of use still makes keys good for me.
Combine this with built to last and a wall wack build
The survivor aura addons are also good. It’s a free perk slot bond would take and let’s you pull off last minute heals for endgame saves and show where to go for a flash bang save.
The key has 9 add ons, only 2 are decent. Not OP, but decent.
2/9 is pretty bad, so, no, they suck. Say it as it is.
The only time, really, when keys become strong is with the blood amber addon, pair that with duration addons and it's actually kinda busted, other that I think keys are not very useful
They should make it so hatch appears no matter how many survivors alive + all gens completed. Of course hatch will appear closed, and can be opened only with a Skeleton key with full power. I want the achievement "Where did they go?" back 😢
Hatch is what made Killer Adept achievements a living nightmare as you need 4 kills to get the achievements
Well this explains why I've never been able to find the hatch to use the key to open it for the trophy on Playstation. Now i have to wait to be the last survivor AND wait until the killer finds and closes it first -_-
Here's hoping I'll be able to actually get the trophy soon as it's the last one i need for the Platinum
Yeah that achievement is really hard to get, probably ones of the hardest in the whole game
@@sashko8448 Got the trophy and Platinum, much easier when you know when the hatch spawns. Use a key and a offering that increases hatch spawn rate in a specific spot, then make noise at the hatch until he comes and closes it, then hope you can unlock it in time
Only time I use keys nowadays is with the blood amber add on that let's you see the killers aura and is actually strong.
Pair it with built to last for multiple uses, open handed to see the killer from further away, and and streetwise to make the key last longer. You basically have free wall hacks
Even broken keys can be strong with the blood amber, you can also add duration addons to that, so yeah this is the one exception where keys become quite busted
@@sashko8448 yeah broken keys were never as bad as people said just because of blood amber but I'll never use one when I have pink keys.
Yea Key especially broken one without addon in a chest is very "usefull"
Keys should strong without addon
I'm honestly glad they changed keys but I hate they made them useless I remember getting the achievement where everyone had to get out of hatch I'm glad they changed it but I'm ngl I do miss it a bit dispite how broken it was
I was wondering about this. I haven’t played in 3 years, so I’m like “what the fuck am I supposed to do with this now” but it’s as it should be. Niche item. Not “instant win game” button
I know darn well if i had started playing when old hatches were around, I would've stopped playing killer very early on. Thats just outright doesn't look fun.
We really need to bring back hatch grabs, or at least interactions for punishing people for standing on it
I don't think that's necessary; yeah it doesn't feel good as a killer when you see the last survivor waiting for you on top of the hatch, but killers can also do stuff like bleeding out the remaining survivors
@@sashko8448 But u can punish this by crawling to bleed faster
Its still the same on dbd mobile Global (Netease)
Its auto open but sometimes it doesnt spawn for 1 person idk why😅
Maybe that certain rule (hatch spawns only if 2 gens have been completed) still applies there, or perhaps it's just a bug, I'm not quite sure
What i dont like about dbd is that when devs nerf something - they nerf it to the ground. Something is op > update > its trash or at least not worth your time
True, I hope they step away from that design principle, it's unfair - even if the thing was op it shouldn't become the worst
when i bring key i always follow the killer to open it
Ngl i thought old hatch was fun.
All it needed was either endgame collapse or the killer being able to close it, which we have both now, and itd be perfect. Im one of the players that see dbd as a party game (its just not optimized thst great for sny type of "competitive" play and it never was or will be honestly) and so i just see this as basically straight up fun removeal and thr purpose of thr key as well as one of its addons (the one that kept thr key if it was used to open hatch) as basically entirely worthless now and in need of a massive rework. Itd be cool to see the key turned into some sort of forbidden tome thst lesnd even more heaviky in aura reading and buffing it.
While I agree with you that dbd should be thought of as a party game, i would have to disagree that the old hatch mechanic was fun for killers, there are countless clips of people getting so frustrated over 2 or 3 survivors escaping through the hatch and i dont think it was healthy for the hatch mechanic to stay like that. Keys definitely need a rework right now though, they are quite weak compared to other items, e.g. medkits and toolboxes
@sashko8448 I'd say to balance it out that thr unlock would either take a long while to open with the killer seeing the aura of the hatch similar to gens, orcthat they'd at minimum be given killer instinct when a survivor is interacting with hatch along with other survivors in close range also giving killer instinct (that way the killer knows just how many are at risk of escaping) with still an increased time to open it, that way the killer actually is able to do somethibg about it. In tandem it's new mechanics of shutting after 10 seconds and the killer being able to close it I think that'd make it in a pretty decent spot.
That's a very well thought out idea, definitely sounds like something that could work!
i mean keys were only made to get out of the game way earlier than intended anyways, the aura reading key build is pretty busted tho if you're a decent survivor ngl
Immediately regret getting into this game. If it took that long for something this major to be fixed that shows a complete disconnect from Dev Management and their own game.
Yeah i don't know what their QA team was on back then hahah
the times i see someone bringing a key to match is lower than the times i face the twins as survivor per month.
current hatch needs a rework, maybe an equal opportunity once 3 survivors are killed the last survivor gets 4.6 movement speed and the killer powers becomes inactive until the hatch is closed to keep it more balanced and fair for soloq.
That sounds like something they could do with the "Last survivor" thing that they tried out with the finisher mori update
I feel like maps are even less useful. The only real uses either tell the killer to not bring hexes, bring haunted grounds, or bring a hatch offering themselves. The gen and exit gate reveal is useless on most maps. Even on indoor maps you need to bring a specific addon that still doesn’t tell teammates where to work because the only addon that does doesn’t work indoors. They’re also the most rare item in the blood web despite being the worst. With perks that do it’s job better, extreme cost of bringing it, and it being countered from the menu screen makes it leagues below everything else.
Yeah even though keys are not very good, I would have to agree with you that maps are even less useful. I think they're just outdated tbh, keys have received multiple changes over the years while maps haven't been touched at all
Subscribing to fellow Bulgarian dbd player !
thank u
the key use to be so goated now i use it to see the killer and i try to get hatch some games but it hasn’t been successful for me
yeah same, i've never been able to open the hatch with a key
considering you will almost never open the hatch with a key nowadays, they should make it so the hatch can spawn once endgame collaps begins (still spawns when one survivor left), but closed, as a way to escape if the killer can easily protect the exit gates, but they can see the aura of the hatch too, i think this would be fair, no?
Too fair, BEhavior won’t allow
This is an interesting suggestion, although I think they would also have to make the hatch opening action take a bit longer
So more 2nd chances for bad plays.
Survivor biased take

They aren't useless. The add one make the keys a very powerful tool. The iridescent are the best because they have the most charges, but oddly enough green keys are more reliable for add on use. There is one that can allow you to see killers mid chase. But the most useful ones in my opinion are the wedding ring or the green ad on that allows you to see your teammates. That addon essentially provides a more effective "bond". And the amount of info you gain with the key is BASICALLY what gives you an almost free escape.
Yes! Keys definitely aren't useless, apart from the things you listed they are also really helpful for window techs and other stuff
But you know, sometimes you've got to put something controversial in the title/thumbnail so that people click on the video
Rainbow map is better for that especially with Mark location add on and increase read time or reveals what you see to buddies.
Still useless compare to medkit, toolbox, Map, Keys should not only use for Hatch maybe doors or chest so there an extra chest which you can only use Key to open or with Key you can reset the open chest.
You forgot to mention the old hatch still had a hit box even before it was revealed in game too
I miss running around the map as nea and seeing the jump in the ground while running. you basically could know where the hatch was at at 5 gens
That was mentioned right away lol
I never understood this weird changes tbh. They made the keys completely useless at this point. For me I just had a few matches where the people escaped through the hatch - and not even all of them.
But well, the devs or the apes that are actually "working" on this game, really think that people will waste an item slot for a key just to be MAYBE able to solo escape through the hatch even if this game is supposed to be a team game.
But the same devs also added the anti camp bar that isnt even working properly on a lot of maps - they try to punish hook camping but at the same time you have huntress player with basically infinite range or oni or leatherface with one hit abilities LOL.
Oh and its not counting as face camping if you finished all gens and you can open the gates - then the bar isnt even popping up, but why lol?
I mean everything in this game is fucking braindead anyways, look at ghostface how he got the weakest killer in dbd compared to leatherface, huntress etc etc.
Or the hex perk that lets you one hit survs. Just had a match with a killer using this perk and the totem spawned right next to the last gens LOL and the killer was just hard camping and not even starting chases, so we all decided to die.
This game has literally the biggest ape devs Ive ever seen.
I wouldn't say they're USELESS, especially with the fact that some add-ons allow you to see the killer aura, but getting keys in chests are pretty useless now.
They definitely aren't useless, the blood amber addon really is quite strong, otherwise yeah keys without addons are awful
I hope they gonna change key in creativa way its just now way tooo useless like to open portals tho its probably wont be balanced
bro especially broken keys like wtf am i supposed to do w it
I mean, it has aura reading abilities i guess ...
@@sashko8448 yay... aura reading abilities w a broken key...
I didnt know there was key
I don’t believe they are useless and the peeps saying that just wanted a 4 man out. They still do all the addons effects that you need and still allow the owner to escape through a closed hatch.
Only useless one is the broken key. I RAGE when I get it in a chest with NO ADDONS!
Everything was broken back then, killers could mori you after 1 hook so it evens out lol
Yeah hahah, I might make a video about moris soon as well
Ill take a key with wall hack aura reading over a map any day
Lmao yeah, at least keys have received changes over the years, maps have stayed exactly the same since their release
Or just make the key open hatch again, since it was never even a problem.
nice
спасибо за инфу
I was actually one of the first people to escape through the hatch
Damn, you're a true dead by daylight og then

What's most ridicilous is that a BIG part of the community defended this mechanic, which allowed you to completely ignore every other aspects of the game and just win without any effort whatsoever, likely because they didn't like the idea of not winning every match literally for free.
I wouldn't even say keys are completely useless now, because if you just use it you can escape for free when the hatch is closed and the add-ons are pretty good as well. Either way, it's embarassing that such a mechanic stayed in the game for more than 5 years.
i don’t think people defended this mechanic because of the free win you gotta remember during this time there was old moris etc so people mindset where if they can have there broken things why can’t we i disagree keys are significantly bad now unless you have a blood amber but even you still have to be last standing survivor the killer can just tunnel said player with a key out i’m much more worried when i see a toolbox or a medkit even a map then when i see a key
@@christianftt3136 Nope, they defended keys well after the moris were reduced to where they are now and especially so when the final nerf to keys was announced. Defending keys was only justfied when moris were just as bad, I agree with you on that one. I also agree that I'm not worried in the slightest when I see a key in the lobby, my point was that keys aren't completely useless, especially when you keep its add-ons in mind. Long story short, I don't think keys need any more changes.
Keys definitely aren't useless (but you know, sometimes you have to put something controversial in the title/thumbnail so that people click on the video), but I think their functions are a little underwhelming compared to other items, something as simple as giving them an extra ability (for example: keys open chests 25% faster) or changing like 2 or 3 addons would bring them closer in line with e.g. medkits and toolboxes
@@sashko8448 Oh I wasn't trying to criticize your video or anything, I was just putting my thoughts out there I guess! I absolutely agree with you though, the changes you listed would be pretty cool for keys! They could change the add-ons to enhance the chest unlock speed as well.
@@christianftt3136what your neglecting, foolishly. Is that survivors had more broken tools in their kit. Insta heal, insta blind, old dead hard, old borrowed time, perma fucking decisive strike and many many others.
Shame you can't think beyond "I suck at this game, nerf all the killers or I quit" mentality.
Now go learn killer or shut the fuck up. You need to play both sides to have an actual opinion on what's "fair and balanced"
Keys are better than flashlights. My opinion :)
Yeah sometimes flashlights can be more harmful than useful
BULGARIA
I am really sad about the hatch and keys being useless now, it killed an entire playstyle
My main issue with keys, especially the broken key, is they reallly need some sort of an ability besides just running add-ons on them. A simple fix and what I would do to fix keys is make it so all keys give Lethal Pursuer at the start of the match to the survivor with the key, but only for seeing other survivors. This would help you get your bearings quickly and give keys a much more incentive to use.
As a Pig enjoyer hatches sucked ass when they had helmets on. They could just dip 😢
LMAO, "nerf pig"
@@sashko8448 then the endgame nerf happened lmao
is it me or is this video facts
I started playing DBD in August of 2022 and when I saw the key I thought it was for chests or to open up parts of the map. Sad to see so much potential thrown away because of laziness and lack of imagination. RIP Key.... I never got to see you shine.
Very well said, the key is such an interesting concept and the devs could have done so much with it, but sadly it's potential never got realized
the hatch and key changes at the same time killed the item
having one or the other is beneficial, but both is blatant overkill
i think there are two simple fixes:
1) having keys as they are, but allowing hatch to spawn as it did. then changing keys and how they work with hatch according to the amount of survivors or other keys in the lobby would promote using only one, if any. especially if the hatch re-closes after one survivor escapes. there could even be a blood point penalty for leaving teammates behind. but the option existing makes games unique (especially if it takes, say, 20+ seconds to unlock a hatch for yourself while all other survivors are alive. which would also mean all generators are done, according to the old metric).
2) revert keys but keep hatch spawn like it is now, while still only allowing 1 key to work for 1 person. like how there can by glyphs spawn in the map, but only the person who can interact with it can use it: exact same concept
my stance is that hatch used to be op but is now only useful if youve completely lost, there isnt an alternative situation where its helpful and awesome: its useless unless you cant escape normally. bringing back SOME aspect of use maintains a degree of flexibility and change to matches, because otherwise its the same thing every game. people are bored, and while this isnt a major solution it would make it so there isnt a guaranteed sense of boredom even if someone is smart or lucky
I really appreciate all the effort you put into writing this comment, it's really amazing! Also I agree with you that the old hatch mechancis should return in some form, even with a lot changes, since it was a really unique interaction which had a lot of potential

Lmao! Hour of the witch is the chapter I started playing DBD with. I didn't realize if I came to game a month earlier I'd witness this stupid hatch system
"I miss old dbd" 🤓
LMAO
What they mean is they miss when DBD wasn't a sweaty nerdfest, and i agree. Nobody wants to play killer anymore because everyone spams flashlights, flashbangs, decisive strike, dead hard, firecrackers and just loop you infinitely because the rank system is so broken. Takes like 2 days to get Iridescent 1 on killer, but like 2-3 weeks on survivor. If you're a killer main coming back from a break you get raped, if you're a survivor you're good to go since bully squads are so busted
🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬
I still want them to bring back the old hatch system since the game has the opening hatch animation should take a little bit longer 30 seconds to open it
no.
@@alexandervelez9507 that's your opinion
@@plasmatailsyeah no. The old hatch system was just unfair. You can literally jump in without any consequences.

@@plasmatails bruh I’m a survivor main and even I say old hatch was unfair. I really think it should be used to get out 1v1 or 3 gen situation.
Keys were seriously ridiculous. I played survivor most of the time but all the times I've played killer those keys would be brutal and those hatch standoffs were annoying. Keys deserved thier nerf but does anyone remember old moris?
Old moris were on another level, I'll definitely make a video about them in the future
