Jerry Goldsmith was a awesome composer, I bought the Rudy soundtrac on dvd, he was also the soundtrac on hoosiers and many other big hit pictures; the best composer ever.
One of Jerry's best scores. I will always be a fan of Mr. Goldsmith's music. He was one of the Grand 3 of film composers. Jerry, John Williams, and James Horner. RIP Jerry and James! There is a section of the Deluxe CD booklet that states that after Jerry completed conducting the score for the final scene for the movie, when the music concluded, ALL the members of the orchestra stood and applauded Mr. Goldsmith, and Rudy's family, who were in attendance, stood and applauded as well.....everyone was in tears! One of the greatest themes in movie history!

I dare any life form across the universe to compose AND PLAY something more inspiring. Humans have created music above and beyond and that's what sets us apart but the Rudy score is genius!
Rudy is good, Hoosiers is also pretty good, like JG's synth drum beat sounding like bouncing a basketball. I always admire how Jerry wrote amazingly simple melodies yet could write incredibly complex multi meter cues like in Total Recall, Air Force one, The Challenge etc.. Dont know of any composer who was that versatile more so than John Williams.
