    The Puigchild is an amazing compressor! Good to see it used by others aswell!
    My tip: use the 'Lavyne vintage mastering glue' preset on a vocal at the end of your chain. Set it to 1, max. 2 db gain reduction and hear the vocal stand out just that bit more in your mix.
    love the tutorial as always!

      @@nateedmondsmusic I indeed referred to the vocal bus, with '1 to 2 db' I mean gain 1 to 2 db of gain reduction. You can look at the VU meter on the left to see how much you are reducing. Play around with in threshold to get the right amount. If it's always reducing too much, lower the input signal.

It would be amazing if you could make a video about your recording process including your room treatement,mic placement, mic setup etc. I noticed in other tutorials (which actually include vocals :D ) that your vocals sound really good already before mixing them. And I think how you actually get these crispy vocals from the start would help out a lot of people! Ofc being able to sing and rap helps as well 😅! Thanks for your time and help :)

I was just wondering, wheather you recommend anything differet regarding mixing your vocals into a beat, that you for example downloaded off of beatstars or stuff like that. Especially blending your vocals into the mix and Mastering at the end. Do you even use anything on the master bus or could it negatively affect the already mixed and mastered beat?
    I would really appreciate an answer, cheers Bro.

    I know everything is relevant, and it depends on what things sound like, and/or the sound we are looking to create etc. Any thoughts or insight regarding the settings of the saturation plugins? Do you just throw them on your buss quick for that little extra UMPH!? Or did I just answer my own question? Thanks again!

    What you say make sense but i see a lot of videos people link the kick to 808 and add a compressor on 808. My question is, how i mix my 808 to sound good with the rest of drums

    • @alexsavastru8125
      @alexsavastru8125 5 лет назад +1

      From my experience, there's never a clear way with mixing. It's just that you have to know what the issues are, how to fix them and with what and, at the end, spice it up salt bae style with the FX. Learn. Your. Plugins.
      Also, to answer your question a bit more to the point. You would sidechain the kick to the 808 using a compressor and then mix them together with EQ. Cut 1-5 dB (do it by ear, these are just guidelines) @ ~50-70 Hz from the 808 and boost the same frequencies in the kick. You could also try adding a bit of saturation to the kick. Also, using a transient shaper like Smack Attack can work wonders on your drums. Honestly, just browse through Devvon's channel. He'll have stuff to help you out. I just hope i pointed you in the right direction. Good luck.

      Check out Cubase Pro 10. Tons of plugins, instruments, samples, synths, drums. Mid/side processing and a lotta stuff ProTools hasn’t. Vari Audio is like built in Melodyne. Pitch correct 4 Autotuning. Just Groove Agent is worth da money. ProTools still can’t put Tracks in folders etc. Even Cubase 20 years ago could do stuff most DAWs still aren’t capable of.

  • @vazen33
    @vazen33 5 лет назад +1

    Hey Devon, Question: Do you usually do a good amount of processing on your instrumental tracks before recording vocals? If so, how do you deal with processing power/CPU usage when recording vocals in a session that already has multiple plug-in instances going on the instrumental tracks. I know it all depends on the CPU specs and what a given computer is able to handle, but i am wondering of your perspective or past experiences with this. Great tutorial again! Subtlety is impactful in music when done effectively! Thanks a lot.

    • @toolondaboards
      @toolondaboards 5 лет назад

      Dharma Child a lot of DAWs now have an option to process the track with whatever plugins you’ve used and then remove the plugins. I use Studio One and it’s called “transform to audio” Pro Tools has something similar called “freeze track” Hopefully that helps if you’re having a CPU issue.

    • @vazen33
      @vazen33 5 лет назад

      @@toolondaboards Ah yes, there is a freeze tracks function in logic as well. Makes sense, freeze tracks to free up CPU before recording vocals etc...Slipped my mind! Thanks

    • @DarrylBarnesDance
      @DarrylBarnesDance 5 лет назад

      Most people don’t record directly in the session theyre mixing. Usually you record the vocals with Jus the beat (2-track) to have all that cpu. Then transfer the vocals into the original project to be mixed. Honestly. You should have a separate project for each phase of the song. Production/recording/Mixing/Mastering. There aren’t any rules but this is the practical way of recording.
