You could also use a dynamic EQ to side chain the fundamental of the kick to the bass so the clashing frequency dips every time the kick hits. That way you’re not losing low end by permantly taking out the frequency on the bass.
Yo, D... Awesome vid Bro,, That Pro eq3.. try making dynamic, leave gain, reduce the range, even remove auto and adjust thresh manually 👍🏾 Keep rocking Homie💯
I’ve been following your channel now for over a month now and I really appreciate your contents. Pls can you give a tutor on how to mix strings/pad/synth so it doesn’t sound muddy… thanks
Great video! 2 questions: 1)How did you decide the frequency crossover point? 2)How might you treat the Mono & Stereo on your @Dangerous Music "2 Bus+"?
This is similar to the same strategy I use. I track and record the low back in through my Lin2A, route both in an Aux bus, and use NLS or black box. It depends on how I feel. I learned malting from JJ and Dave as well on MWTM.
im surprised you didnt mention the sidechain into soothe 2 trick that jaycen joshua uses. it apparently has the fasted attack (if you leave the quality at level 1) of all compressors according to JJ. Works VERY well
I always try to use Dynamic EQ to have the bass quickly duck out of the way of the kick when it hits and pop back up just as quickly afer it's gone. Rarely ever have collision issues with that approach.
would using mid-side EQ do the same technique without duplicating the bass? cut the low end out of the sides of the mix up to 300 hz and boost frequencies you like below that only in the middle of the mix? and then EQ the high frequencies to the side? Typically mastering engineers do this I think, but what if you did it in the mix? I think depending on the type of song though this technique would be extremely necessary...
Sidechain is good but cannot be a crutch. You gotta learn how to properly cut frequencies in the bass, especially if it’s heavy like a 808. It’ll make the individual notes playing sound more intelligible and will be a smoother side chain to the kick
Thank you for the tips. I have a question regarding the bass tip where 2 tracks are made with low and high frequencies to compress. Is it not just the same to use a Multiband Dynamic compressor and then set the desired frequency splits?
Awesome! This is very helpful indeed! I wanted to know: are you still using the same buss for mixing your drums and bass together as you have in past tutorials or are you using separate busses for mixing both instrument sections into the master fader?
Looks weird AF looking at a beat made in Pro Tools😹lol... I know Ljean wouldn't let that slide, especially with how much you got to say bout how FL looks
I never even seen the piano roll. Wow, it looks like a terrible experience. There’s nothing stopping bro from grabbing a copy of Studio One for gods sake.😂
it's a perception thing bud lol it happens but it's also a technicality thing when translating sound on different stereo speakers like cars, TVs, phone or portable speakers, etc.
@@prettiestjr I am using my computer and my headphones in jack mode, no wireless. I can here the others pluggins working, but not the imager from Ozone 😅

I'm definitely a bass sidechainer for that very reason
Explain further please
The side chain only cuts out the frequency of the kick in the bass
Awesome video and explanations, thanks so much!! 🔥
Your lighting is the best!
Devvon you are literally so influential in the music community, thank you for the content you create! Also, PROTOOLS FOR LIFE!!!
My pleasure!!
This guy knows how to teach!!! Thank you
Very good video!

That low and high bass technique, it's used by most EDM producers. It gives you better control of your low end.
I’m really enjoying it!
Your the best bruh!
Always dropping gems much love bro!

Took notes on this video. Good information
Love you vibes ! Thanks for always giving out the game !
Love this technique. Thank you for giving a new take on this. I learned a similar approach from Matthew Weiss

I knew about that one but feel like the topic of side chaining needs a more in depth video on it’s on 🙏🏽
Happy to see you doing these tuts and tips. You've been on it, keep going bro. Let's catch up sometime, sending good vibes!
I like what you did at 15:40 i would have atleast sidchained that freq to the kick to only duck when the kick is going but, thanks good shii! fr

Sir please can you do a vocal mix from start to finish 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
i can’t wait for this song to come out

You are so good at explaining these complex stuff! 👍🏼 Regarding collision of bass and kick, can’t we use sidechain to avoid that issue?

I use basslane pro for this purpose.
Warriors....come out to play!!
Devon, CAN YOU PLEASE DO A TUTORIAL on how you get your reverb to sound so good? I suck at getting my reverb right.
I super have one coming !
@Help Me Devvon Bet! Preciate you, fam!
Thaaaaaanks a lot 🎉
As far is mottling the bass is concerned do you think a multi band compressor could work equally as well?
Thank you for the tips. I have a question regarding the bass tip where 2 tracks are made with low and high frequencies to compress. Is it not just the same to use a Multiband Dynamic compressor and then set the desired frequency splits?

I most definitely separate the bass from the drum busss
@@HelpMeDevvon cool!!! Thanks!!!
I always mix bass thru my cellphone speakers
Dope
I have a question😁😁
Is it right to widen Low end??
Anything from 150 Hz , No!!! But if you seperate it the way Devon you can stereo the top end.
@@supermanyoski3360 thanks man.
Not in general, in some cases like a rock bass you can but typically bass is and should be centered aka Mono
What about for instrumentals, could I still use this?
Does this trick work for 808s or just synth basses?

Charlie Puth does it well lol
He can't be teaching us sumn with a piano roll that ugly,lol...he of most people should know

Yeah cause wth am I looking at lol
Did you User linear Phase when Splitting the Bass up on the EQ?
No I’m not a big fan of linear phase eq especially when it comes to my low end stuff. It sometimes lessens the impact of my low end
how much that ozone plugin cost?
fyah
so we are not going to talk about how good the drums sound
😅😅😅
👀
you dont even need that in there man its just gonna get in the way anyways pick a diff bass
Ummmm thanks lol
bro literally all your comments are negative lol just give up on engineering
I don't hear any difference when you use the imager for widing your bass 😂 my ears are broken
