Tipp for any saturation Plugin, put it in Mid/Side Mode. Its way cleaner and you get More seperation between the elements of your song. And the Saturn has that feature + use oversampling to get less antialising. And one more, use between-18 to -12 db peak as input volume to get less antialising. Love the blackbox hg2
@@Par1s Hi, i think you mean phase cancelation when its summed in mono Right? With Saturation its not that of a Problem if you do sublte enhancement, when you do more Crazy mid/side distortion Stuff, then you have to check of its still sound good in mono
@@colacorn6519 No I literally mean artifacts that occur as a result of encoding a stereo signal as Sum/Difference. Mid/Side is a mic technique that some hardware manufacturers decided to use and artifacts can come out on arbitrary stereo signals.
Good point using lower input volume to help prevent aliasing, hadn't thought of that. And then u can just increase output volume. Saturn has such a great UI
You are the only reason I mix and master as cleanly as I do to this date. Thank you so much my man and keep making awesome straight forward tutorials like this one. Stay blessed, not stressed. 😁
The way you explain everything is really good....none of other youtubers explain this deeply like you..I m glad that I found your channel....lots of love buddy...love from INDIA 😊
Yo bro been watching for like a year and have learned a lot and shard your vid wish I could help out more but thanks Im getting the god particle today def cause seem like it really works!
Do you do this in addition with all the other saturation you use on your other tracks...I watched your other vid on saturation awhike back and remember how you use it in 3 places in your process(drive on vocal track, vocal processing chain, and at the end of the song processing....)
hey mate thanks for useful video my question is: why you adding just a band level knob in you fabfilter Saturn2 instead of adding the saturation parameter? if I understand it correctly you just pushing the volume instead of warm effect. so the question is why you are using that saturation plugin for just volume goals?
Bro I need help with something I always hear how your beat and vocal always knock with each other....I can't get that sound...meaning the vocal level I am not sure how loud the vocal should be in comparison with the beat
Can someone break down the peak limiting segment with the Trim Plugin for me? Its going over my head. Couldn't you just adjust the outputs in each plugin ?
Should I always level match the saturation on a mix bus. Basically should I add my saturation on my mix bus but make sure the volume is the same as when there wasn’t any saturation or should I not do that on my mix bus ? Also what about when I use it specifically on individual vocal tracks, should I level match it then as well or no.
Always level match for every mix decision you do. Volume can be deceiving & and mix decisions you make without properly understanding if it’s the actual action (EQ, saturation…) or the increase in volume due to that action, may lead you down the wrong path.
Bro I have a question; why do I always hate my mix when ever it's my own song or my voice. I spend more time on when mixing and still not satisfied with the results. But when I'm mixing for people I work so fast and in the end tend to like everything. I never have issues with thiers. What's the problem? Please help me out 🙏🏽
I'm sure a lot of it is that age old adage: "We are our own worst critics." And it's not uncommon. John Lennon didn't like his voice and wanted desperately to sound like Elvis. For me, getting a second, third, fourth opinion helps me get out of my head a bit with my own songs and offers a more objective perspective. Sometimes walking way from the project and coming back to it later allows your ears to reset because they can fatigue easily. Don't give up.
Currently going thru this same thing I’d make a song but even while I’m making it I always feel it’s ass and just a waste so I stop then come back to it later and realize how hard it is lmao then never finish it.
I used to have the same problem, then I asked this question to one of my fav’ rapper who produces and composes all by himself and his answer is you will always have this question but after practice you’ll get used to it and find the tone you like. Long for short, keep going and you will get the answer by yourself.
When you added 2db on the frequency via Saturn I noticed you didn't gain stage before the black box plugin. Is there a reason for this? Or was the dB change not significant enough to adjust?
Typically for me on my mix buss I don’t try to level match. What I do is lower the mix for mastering at the end of the chain. But for the purpose of the tut I was gain staging a lot in between so you could hear the effect not just volume. You get what I mean?
@@HelpMeDevvon Do you mix through this plugin chain ? Or putting it in your ST bus after the mix is done ? And, the audio file that you give to your mastering engineer is with all these plugins on ?
What's going on homie? I see you, your work is awesome real rap YEAH! Just wondering if we can do business? What is your prices if you do mixing and mastering? From yo boy Dafathatictoc YEAH!
BRO Saturn has an audio dB dip at the transition frequency when you add different bands. I still prefer Saturn as my main go to saturation, but it does have that dip, so just make sure you either compensate for it, or place it in an area that's not as prominent in the mix for the least effect on audio signal. I've been watching your videos for years and listening to your music for longer. I always appreciate your view on music, your one of my most respected engineers. Keep this up your content on RUclips has definitely gotten better in my opinion

If you Charger more than $100 please make it where we’ll be able to pay using something like Klarna or affirm. Something we can pay installments. Thanks bro.
did you still saturate anything with saturn, i noticed none of the drive knobs were turned up and you just turned up the gain, isnt that the same as just using a bell EQ

All great tips. Always love M/S mode.
Do you know how to identify sum/difference artifacts? Because throwing every saturation plugin into M/S is gonna cause quite a few

I loveeee Saturn 2 you can do crazy things with it especially the envelope follower I use it all over my mix
Learned a lot from you with mix and mastering. And love the videos btw, do you edit them yourself?
That dbx160 to Pultec smashed is amazing in the low end
FIRE!!!
The God Particle sounds crazyy!!

I Love black box sooo much.
Been tapped in since the song with Hmg “Blue Faces” and I take your advice seriously
Oh god.. We need this in a template !

This is fire!! Are you still adding processing on the master bus after all of this?
thxxx ganggggggg
Great video , question at this stage you had use the dangerous 2 bus plus ? Or how you incorporated this trick and the 2 bus plus ? Help me Devon

Love this. Is it common practice to use a Vocal Summing plug in AND say - a SSL G BUS to sum the entire mix?
Question; Do you mix through these plugins or do you put them afterwards?
Right saturation is definitely the new way to go without messing up ur mix
In here 👐🏾
Aye!
YO DEVON THANKS FOR THA TIPS KUZZO BUT WHAT HEADPHONES U GOT DID AUDIO TECHNICA RELEASE NEW HEADPHONES ???
Devvon? Would you recommend mixing through this chain or add after mixing?
Have you ever checked out Kush plugins? So many great options for saturation
This song is heat drop that brother.
What about use tracks clipper plugin instead of the God particle
Could I achieve the same affect?
Hey bro what are some good alternatives you could use instead of the last 2 plug ins?
Hey devvon do you still mix in dual mono? (Left & right)??
hey mate
thanks for useful video
my question is: why you adding just a band level knob in you fabfilter Saturn2 instead of adding the saturation parameter?
if I understand it correctly you just pushing the volume instead of warm effect.
so the question is why you are using that saturation plugin for just volume goals?
Hi, Brother
Please can you teach mix in adobe audition....?
Please teach us the best free pluggins for mixing and mastering..?
What do you think about the BB Tube of the Waves new Plug-in?
How do you screen capture your Pro Tools with audio?
Question: When I engage the black box plugin, why does it put all my pan tracks centered again?
Salve. Grazie per il video. Ho scaricato il plugin su mac M1 ma non vedo la barra dei preset, perchè? Chiedo aiuto. Grazie

Is it only vocals that go on the mixbus or can the instrumental can as well?
devvon whats thename of the song you're mixing? is it released yet?
Do you follow the god particles range? Because your mids didn't hit where Jaycen Joshua has set. Do you focus on that at all?
Dude, this song is sick too! For the Black Box, do you normally have the Output at 0 (i.e. did you turn it down to level match for this tutorial?)
I def turned it down to level match just so you could get an idea about what it’s actually doing and not be fooled by it’s just getting louder!
what could I use instead of black box
Bro I need help with something I always hear how your beat and vocal always knock with each other....I can't get that sound...meaning the vocal level I am not sure how loud the vocal should be in comparison with the beat
So are u putting a clipper / limiter after all this?

Do you do this before you mix and mix into it?
Let’s get an in depth mastering tutorial please brother love your insights you’ve really taught me a lot 💯🙏🏽
If anyone can send the link to Purchase the "God Particles" it'll be highly appreciated
does anyone know what the trim plugin would be for FL Studio? that would help out a lotttttt
I think its Fruity Balance
Scratchy and Bite-ee-er! Dying! 😅🤣😂
What headphone are you using in this video?
I use black box on everything.. it’s a god sent
I was watching this till you pulled out god particle lol 😂 all credibility went straight out the window bro. Sheeeesh

Fruity Balance.

when you say "mix buss" do you refer to blending in a "buss track" or are you talking about the "master buss"?

I have my drive up so so SLIGHTLY! For the fab filter the saturation is very slight the real bump is coming from that 2db bump u saw
@@HelpMeDevvon okay, thank you bro i was just a bit confused! stay safe ❤️
rule of thumb is: only add 1 db of volume for each saturator you add. You want a slow build up of it - is my understanfing
